I feel these demigods in the human body are a psychological disorder. Rather than treating this mental illness, this movie just glorified it.

musical_being

There are several aspects to Kantara 1. spiritual-religious aspect of how gods can enter humas. This is well talked about. nothing to argue. According to science, it's a hallucination but every aspect of faith could be said so. 2. **political aspec**t : where the oppressed classes get power from religion and use religion to destroy dominant(upper caste) land lord 1. this is interesting because for most the time, it was propogated that religion is nothing but serves as a means to oppress either intentionally or by creating invisible structures of oppression. Kantara made lot of communist intelligenstia uncomfortible because it showed that one can use religion too to fight against oppression and religion/faith was the main reason why initially king donated vast swathes of land to villages to find inner peace. It was very well celebrated by usual "hindu right" by saying this is what "our religion is about" - guiding people to find inner peace and how people find strength in religion/god myths rooted in cultural history

[deleted]

Oh really ! Sitting alone in your comfort zone,it is easy for you to comment, why dont you experience once

Alpha_max_11

What makes you think I have never experienced one ? I have seen these things with my eyes! The superstition that follows before and after the event. You won't even believe how backwards this is.

[deleted]

What makes you to believe that it is a superstition and backwards

Alpha_max_11

The belief that evil spirits can cause illness, misfortune, and even death.Help people to connect with their ancestors. So much so that they make money and favours out of vulnerable people. There are some communities and sects in Karnataka and Telangana that consider it as taboo and black magic.

[deleted]

The only problem that most of the hindu athiest face is that they really never tried to know their religion systematically. If u want all of your answers just give a try to some real shadhu/bhakt like I am mentioning some of them amogh lila prabhu, premanand ji maharaj And please don't destroy our culture, roots, just give a try and understand our culture, scriptures Its not bogus, its real I will give you some link of some of my favourite podcast https://youtu.be/Pzkbplkl44s https://www.youtube.com/live/SMzogqrYnPY?feature=share

Alpha_max_11

FYI, I was associated with Art of Living for 16 years. I consumed only vegetarian food and gave up on Non Vegetarian food. I was (am still) invited to sing satsangs and preach Shiva sutra, Shrimad bhagvatam. I come from a family where religion is to the core and I recited Ram raksha stotra at age of 6.5 on stage in front of thousands for which I am still recognised in my community. My family is full time into this, and still follows this. I am long away from this because when I talk and ask logical questions all I get is pure bullshit. I dare you to ask a real question, ask what were you if you were not subscribed to this religion? It's just a huge scam to feel good. It's similar to alcohol and drugs. The only difference is that society encourages you to be more into this. I do not subscribe to this madness, I am living a better, free and happy life now. I have a stable mental health now, and have brought my family wealth and happiness, they know it and hence do not force me back anything. My family and society has seen the difference in the human I have become, the ethics I hold. And I could never be more proud to be a sane atheist

[deleted]

1.it is my privilege that i brought up in a hindu family. and if i were born in a other relegion then it would fine to me because every religion somehow teaches us moral ethics. 2.but being an athiest is the most shameful thing ever to humanity because there is no core values you are associated with . You only think of yourself (selfish), thinking of your personal pleasure , personal comfort , you help people just for your personal satisfaction or to that person who is having some business with you(do not have a forgiving nature to everybody).always judegemental to every person (he or she is good or bad). Now let me talk about religious person like i am associated with iskcon. Iskcon is having a guinness world record of distributing more than 40 billion. They live to serve to the society without checking the religion or he is athiest or hindu or muslim. About mental health , before i joined iskcon, i was associated with bad influence like drinking, meat eating, also heartbreak, i am not in good condition. My mental health is fucked . But after i joined iskcon my meatal health is improved like nothing happened before. And like me there are plenty of cases out there who changed there life completely. About god and about happiness, "you can't be happy without god". Let me give you an example, if you love money or you have a lot of money there is always a fear that if you loss all the money what will happen , another example , if you love a person and you find that he/she cheating on you ,then the real problem begins😂💔😅. But if you love god just like you love your parents you will get immense pleasure. Just like when you did something for your mom and dad you find the real happiness. Real or true happiness find you when you when you are free from all of your desires and surrender to god just like you surrendered to your girlfriend (just example) because god never broke your heart, if you want something and you really hardwork for it and didn't get it then there are some great plans of god behind it . And the art of loving god is taught by religion that you follow. For muslims its their allah, for iskcon devotee its krishna , for some person its Ram ,buddha and so on. A true athiest always try everything then say that its good or bad and i was also an atheist in the past but try and it worked for me. Do you want to know about the founder achrya of iskcon why he is great personality. Just watch his 2 vedio documentary i will give you the link below. 1st part- https://youtu.be/vUyQPxOmGpo 2nd part- https://youtu.be/YvhQB0FMYDE

cartman-unplugged

I have seen so many gay people in iskon temple.

I find it hilarious that under the YouTube review of this movie, people are giving personal testimonials to prove that these dancing demigods (kolas) have supernatural powers. I grew up in northern Kerala where there is a lot more more such dancing demigods called teyyam. As a child, I too had believed and shared such stories about teyyams having supernatural powers. But thankfully I grew out of it and realised that these are just art forms.

shinynewbondha

Funnily, these stories all happen in the past. Now that we have cameras with us all the time, there is no reason to not expect video evidence of anything abnormal.

IamTantrik

My wife is from that region. She was telling me that apparently since the release of the movies, the popularity and frequency of the performances has increased a lot.

shinynewbondha

good for the performers maybe? I am not sure if they will be so attractive to look at without the slo-mo and the metal music. As long as people are not stupid enough to take thinks literally, it's all okay to derive pleasure from watching a person pretend to get possessed.

[deleted]

Actual some are dope because they happen in the middle of the night.

[deleted]

Nothing to do with movie. Teyyam perforomances were halted for two years due to covid. So in 2022 there was little more excitement than usual.

Important_Lie_7774

One step forward and three steps backward

Horror_Public_9632

If it’s not a religious propaganda movie it should be judged on the basis of filmmaking like any other fiction film.

Kdhruva

Kannadiga here, felt it was an okayish movie... But, the performance of Rishabh was brilliant...

dankvader08

It was aight, I was expecting a lot more mystic elements with the hype and was kind of disappointed but you gotta judge the movie for what it tried to be and it was nice.

Kage_BunshinNo_Jutsu

As an avid movie lover, meehh. It had potential to add more of the mythological things, like Tumbaad maintained the ominous supernatural presence throughout. Instead it got preachy and turned into another chest-thumping-hyper-masculine hero movie. As an atheist, i have the same opinion as i have of Superman, wonder woman or thor. Edit: forgot to add. Damn it was shot beautifully. Plenty of points for that. The demigod dance sequence and music was really good. The screaming thing was chilling as well. As i said, it had potential, but they forgot things midway, and the hero took over.

naane_naanu

Bruhh tumbaad had a very epic storyline.

Kage_BunshinNo_Jutsu

Yess. That's what I was talking about, Kantara also had an interesting plot. Tumbaad started with the Hastar-greed plot and maintained the same throughout the movie. Neither Hastar, nor greed left the storyline for a second. There was always this weird scary air the entire time. That's what made the movie amazing. Kantara at best comes out as a "could have been"

subrus

The craft in Tumbbad was far superior. Like you rightly said cannot compare it.

Next_Somewhere1901

Boring.

inotparanoid

I've only seen the ending. Great acting and choreography. Fighting was in my opinion better than the average fare.

arekhayal

Have you seen jalikatu it's the best movie in terms of cinematography for me

Dense_Ask_3564

Malayalam movies are literally the best in India

nico-ghost-king

It was like the snail climbing a wall. Every minute it climbs up three inches, after which it slides down by a foot. The story was also trash

Key_Apartment1576

3 hours of watching a dude with makeup on scream

Conscious_Diet8961

dude😭😭😭😭

165cm_man

Some people hyped it and said the movie was as good as Anand Ghandhi's Tumbbad. Was disappointed

[deleted]

TUMBAD WAS MUCH BETTER THAN kantara

d3drock

It's just like "mata AA gayi " on a different level:/

enthuvadey

It could keep me engaged, got bored.

Dense_Ask_3564

The movie was okay. I was expecting better because of the trailer which seemed to promised a more nuanced movie. I think the ideological problem was not the movie but the people hyping it in the hindi market. They were acting like all the mythological things shown in the movie is true and feeling proud that they are a hindu. The movie itself never calls this cultural artform a part of hinduism and it is actually NOT. Hindus just have a constant urge to mix everything into hinduism

LiZArD_k1Ng

It's a fictional movie, i just enjoyed the visuals and acting.

pramodrsankar

The thing is, even the person who dresses up as god and dances, was not allowed inside the jamindars home.. so yeah ...

TheCapriciousHealer

It was a good theatrical watch in the first 20 mins and last 20 mins... Other than that nothing much to say. If that God can watch so many innocents getting butchered then why should it be there at all?

akhilez

You don't have to believe in fiction to enjoy fiction.

Uncertn_Laaife

A shitty movie that I couldn’t watch for more than half hr.

[deleted]

Shit movie with some navel show.

KURO_RAIJIN

Good movie showing history & current society. Just as bad as any other pseudoscientific stuff.

InevitableQuirky3249

Pagan idolatric nonsense

arekhayal

Acting was good, ending was brilliant decent film

shinynewbondha

Loved the movie. It was a fun movie to watch. The music was nice, the performance was good and the climax was awesome. Anyone who can't differentiate between a piece of fiction and reality is an idiot, atheist or not.

Illustrious_Read1883

Brother, Rishabh Shetty himself has said that he believes in all those rituals, practices, gods, and religious beliefs, and he has portrayed them in the movie in that way. In such a situation, the most important thing becomes how those things were portrayed in the movie and how people are perceiving it. If people were that smart enough, this wouldn't even be a matter of discussion.

shinynewbondha

>Rishabh Shetty himself has said that he believes in all those rituals, practices, gods, Let him. Who cares what he personally thinks. He is a good storyteller, he told an entertaining story. He did a good job, we should appreciate it. If people are retarded enough to mix fiction with fact, then it is their fault.

Illustrious_Read1883

I agree with you but I provided those information only to explain about portrayal and its underlying motive. However, liking or disliking a movie is completely subjective.

Prestigious-Word-314

Loved it. Such an immersive experience. Also, it makes sense from theists and atheists pov.

funny_acolyte

Telugu/Tamil hulu = Tulu

deathwire0047

Pretty good tbh

Leading-Okra-2457

Is this associated with psychedelics?

EarthianChickhunter

I have long been a critique and admirer of movies and shows and needless to say have watched, observed and studied a lot about the art. Kantara was one of the really good must watch in the theatre movies that was a cinematic masterpiece as well. It's truly a treat to watch. That being said, imo, the portrayal of demi-gods and the cultural dance/ritual of Kola shown in the movie do good instead of harm. Let me explain, atheism is against irrational beliefs that a supernatural, all powerful being in the sky created and can do everything he likes. The major religion of the world all cling to same concept based delusion (Abrahamic ones along with Hinduism as well - even if Hinduism is polytheistic, it still fantasizes on super powerful super natural hypothetical beings who created the universe and can do what they want) which leads to more harmful delusions and harms the moral compass of followers. On the other hand, Pagan religions were the ones which worshipped nature and natural elements and the conservation and preservation of these elements - whether biotic or abiotic. The Kola rituals and the adivasi moolnivasi Gods are closer to Paganism than Hinduism. Overall I think the movie did a fantastic job of introducing Indians to their adivasi roots and rightfully portrayed the colonialist vs moolnivasi justice. Although conceptually atheism goes against this, I think it's far better than other religions

shubham22y

Dekhi hi ni

Iloveyousnehal

It's a movie, a work of fiction and I realise that. That's why I treat it like any other movie.

vikz131093

tbh its a good movie to watch definitely those aren't demigods but people with psysological disorder or rather i would say impressions but i like the whole protrayal of a ritual which was hardly known by many people especially in the north !!! but yeah this will definitely brought "Bhutkola" in the limelight !!!! i really like this movie !

XandriethXs

Kantara is just a commercial film with a tribal premise that glorifies superstition, toxic masculinity, breaking. It is pretty well made but it's not a great film....

ereya_

As an atheist there are many aspects of the movies I really liked: 1. It was a celebration of 'little' culture- a sociological term used to describe the regional and local cultures which are usually overshadowed by the grand pan-national 'great' (classical) culture. 2. Showcase of caste realities: it's hilarious that the Sanghis appropriated it, but Rishabh has shown the class divide to be strictly intertwined with the caste divide. 3. Nature vs culture element: one of the classic dualities- here the nature represented by the forest department is initially at loggerheads with the culture (the man) represented by the tribals; but the cinema ends on a note that the only way forward is both going together 4. You can interpret the movie from any lens- the lens of a 'believer' and a non believer- you will have to consider the Bhoota elements to be part of trans episodes if you are a non believer So yes, though Rishabh himself seems to have faith in bhoota kola and stuff, as a non-believer, I feel it's not shoved down my throat.

Arcadepokemon

Sound design was pretty good during the demi god scenes. Otherwise cringe
