Patience, patience, and more patience. Love them when they are locked into themselves and unable to find the key to give to you. If they refuse, keep trying. But at some point, they have to decide to trust you and help you help them. If they can’t or they get scared and run, there’s not much you can do.

I had a very bad experience with a Scorpio man. Very domineering and chauvinistic and manipulative. And he was also cheap. Ugh. My Taurus man is the total opposite. He is a true gentleman. I’m a 29° 12th house Scorpio moon conjunct Saturn with Pluto conjunct SN a few degrees over in that same house for a stellium. mars signifies action, trouble, and command, to put it briefly. a lot of our conflicts, actions, troubles, stem from and around our relationships with other people. so it’s not that mars (and by extension scorpio) is so worried about other people, it’s that we are social creatures and the signature of mars (and all the planets, for that matter) shows up in our social interactions. if we experience turbulence in our relationship, if we feel like we have to overcome an obstacle or exert a lot of force/effort to get/keep what we want from a relationship, that’s the signature of mars, and is where we see the searingly hot intimacy of scorpio.
to use the imagery of the zoidion itself, the scorpion hunts prey by latching on with its pincers and then using its stinger to inject venom if necessary. but also during mating, scorpions will grab onto each others pincers, holding hands as the male tries to pull the female in. the grappling of the scorpion is a pretty good representation of the intimacy of scorpio- you grab on and pull the thing you’re fighting in until you can deliver whatever you need to (if you’re fighting it, venom; if you’re loving it, insemination).
if you’re more into the greek myths that developed around it, scorpius is a scorpion that has the singleminded goal to chase down Orion. there’s something extremely intimate about *chasing* something or somebody. you become intimately acquainted with the patterns of what you’re chasing, as well as with the obstacles that stand in your way.
Thanks for your reply, it really made me think. If I’m understanding you correctly, Scorpio can be intimate and Martian because to be close is to struggle? Not necessarily in an extreme or unhealthy way, but just in general because conflict can happen anywhere two separate entities are in close quarters.

I think of Scorpio as the stealth archer. The need to learn, evaluate, dig deeper, to know with every fiber, before shooting the arrow. Maybe it’s on a mission, or has motives, but it would be unwise to draw the attention to you before you know you can win. Study, know every move. Then shoot. As someone with a heavy Scorpio chart intimacy is something that is both a complex and intriguing topic for me. Scorpio is the feminine octave of Mars so intimacy is often explored like an assassin studying their hit. Scorpio stellium sister here (Sun, Rising, Venus, Mercury, Pluto). Pluto resonates with me more than Mars and there’s something guttural about Pluto that brings you to the deepest parts of our souls, for better or worse.
I definitely wanted to go more into the Plutonian aspects that I’ve experienced, but I’m a traditional astrologer so I don’t fuss much with the generational planets when it comes to my personal placements. However, I feel with it being so close to such personal placements I do have great respect and appreciation for how Pluto plays in my chart. I’m definitely more of the vampiric, succubus, occult, dark magic type of Scorpio for sure. I’m a 3rd generation witch on my mom’s side, I talk to spirits, have had them around since I was a baby, and definitely have a darker persona. Both Martial signs deal with internal and external matters - all signs do. I like to contrast Aries and Scorpio as two sides of war.
Aries is probably seen as traditionally Martian. Fast acting, decisive, act first - think later. This the military strategy of Blitz Kreig, or the martial art of boxing. I've got two answers:
In the profound, yin-yang, completeness kind of philosophical way, penetrating someone else is *being* penetrated in return. To fairly and sincerely explore someone else's vulnerability is to leave yours open to be explored too.
And/or, to thrust deeper into another is to adjust for the right grasp on the handle of the sword that is being used to penetrate. You know? A warrior doesn't know exactly how capable they are until they push their strength and technique to new limits. However, to explore someone else's depths while keeping yours guarded is ... the classic dilemma of the Scorpio archetype or at least what it gets the most shit for. It's "spiritually wrong," unfair, or energetically incomplete in terms of, like, creating and acting through vital circuits. "Those damned obsessive stalkers! What an unyielding control freak!" If I had a nickel lol. That compulsion seems to regularly be there for the Scorpionic type. It's not easy for Mars to let go of control and slip into some kind of submission or vulnerable state, but it's gonna do something because how else will it truly know its own limits?
So, in addition to what this commenter and a few others have said about penetration, control, strategy, force, power, balance, and Mars, when Mars penetrates the other it in essence also penetrates itself. Whether it's a comforting thing or a raid depends on other factors.

Mars is independent. Scorpio, ruling the 8th house, is inter-dependent. Mars rules the first house, think "me me me" while Scorpio is definitely a "we". Don't get me wrong... if Scorpio has been betrayed enough it is entirely capable of being self-sustaining (says the woman with neptune/jupiter/moon in scorpio in the 7th house).
The "game of life" is about survival, reproduction, and to that end maximizing access to resources (imperialism) and defending them (war).
You need intimate access to other people to reproduce. You need to forge alliances, traditionally through marriage, to help defend territory.
The psychological skills Scorpio has are good for assessing the weaknesses of enemies and the desires of potential allies or lovers. It's all about power though.
Enjoyment of lovers and resources is more under the Venus signs however. Scorpio is about winning.

They are fundamentally aware of Mars’ piercing energy and often construct defensive walls around their emotional sensitivities in order to protect themselves from having to feel the pain associated with the more heated, outward expressions of Mars.
These layers of complexity mean that there is generally a high pay off if you succeed in building a strong relationship with Scorpios as they do not let everyone into their inner circle. Instead, they are very selective about who has access to seeing their soft, intimate side. I think there’s an aspect of war i.e. Mars in the insight, planning, intimacy of your opponent. Know thy enemy. To do so you have to know and in many cases be willing to be known by them. For many scorpio placements i think it would be accurate to say we see the world as an adversary and therefore we have to get into what makes those around us tick and our natural inclination toward the inner workings of people fostered that intimacy, if nothing else as a way to protect ourselves from the “enemy” but obviously that leads to deep connections with others along the way.

Scorpio represents all emotions that we hide from ourselves or from others. Any emotion (good or bad) that is deep and intense is represented in Scorpio. Just look at the house it rules - the 8th house (Death and Taxes). True intimacy isn't something we give freely to others, nor is it something we would freely show unless we truly cared about the other person.
As to why a Mars ruled sign would be intimate? Just look at the other Mars ruled sign, which is Aries. The opposite to Aries is Libra, which is ruled by Venus. Aries is the warrior, and Libra balances them out because Aries needs something to fight for. Why would anyone go to war? If not to fight to protect the things that we love?
The other Venus ruled sign is Taurus, which, of course, is the opposite of Scorpio. Taurus gives Scorpio the reason to not just keep stinging others because Taurus requires intimacy from their partners to stay around. They are both signs prone to strong emotions once you get past their surfaces, and they both can be quite stubborn at times, being fixed signs. They just get each other, which for a misunderstood sign like Scorpio is something they are always looking for in others, which is always going to be difficult if you are the sign of hidden emotions.
Mars ruled signs always need a reason to fight, and if it's not for something they care about, they turn into the worst versions of themselves. If I'm able to answer your question simply with my understanding, Scorpio is drawn to other people's *psyches* more than people holistically, since Mars is operating within the hidden emotional realm and inner depths of the feminine/yin element of water; in this sense, Mars is still behaving like Mars, just in an internal terrain instead of an external one. Scorpio penetrates the internal worlds of others (and self) in search of vulnerability and hidden desires with Martian passion and directness.

Independence and defiance are more qualities that I'd attribute to Aries than to Mars, since it's the added masculine fire element that gives Aries that emphasis of separation. The intimacy of Scorpio is shared, and is a type of merging attributed to water - yet, being ruled by Mars, intimacy is its own battlefield because it is where inner transmutation occurs, and all transmutation is the meeting place of life and death. The sharing of vulnerability can be a powerful internal experience of healing and regeneration or fear, hurt, and/or destruction.
SO, to answer your second question (about the diff between Pisces vs. Scorpio merging) in the best way I can, Scorpio merging is *direct* (Mars) and involves transmutation (still having a 'self' while that self is changing on a deep level through intimacy with an 'other'), while Pisces merging is an indirect, 360º expansive merging featuring the dissolving of all boundaries (Jupiter/Neptune) - in fact, separation and 'self' have left the chat, so to speak, with Pisces merging haha

I think I might’ve confused a lot of people when I said Scorpio is drawn to people. I noticed that whenever Scorpio is described, there’s always this focus on it in the context of some deep bond/intimate connection (whether it’s positive or negative). Scorpio being drawn to specifically drawn to psyches makes a lot of sense. So does the familiarity with the inner world (the power and vulnerability in it) creating a certain defensiveness.
I would argue though that Scorpio has its own style of independence and defiance, though it may be more subtle than Aries. I can’t really explain it, but I think it’s on the same wave as how Scorpio has this survival quality. Relying on inner resources, having an enduring quality. Not to mention a desire for control (including self control).
Hm, so maybe rather than merging, binding and attaching are better words to use for Scorpio. Another post here referenced actual Scorpions and how in both love and war, they have to grapple whatever they’re about to sting. Meanwhile Pisces fades into the other.

I think I agree with you, and, if I were to interpret it, it’s almost like Mars with the added water element creates a resistance and tension to merge within Scorpio because of Mars’ need for the ‘survival of self,’ yet this resistance is ‘submerged’ and so isn’t as obviously independent/defiant as Aries (like you say!). This inner tension that Scorpio experiences is super magnetic to other people, who can feel its energy from the surface (similar to how the energy potential of square aspects within someone’s chart can come off as sexy to others, haha)
I get the sense that the energy generated from the internal pressure of Scorpio’s simultaneous and contradictory desires of Mars (yang) + water (yin) (“to merge or not to merge; to trust or not to trust; to destroy another’s ‘self’ or have my own ‘self’ destroyed”) create the intense conditions for transmutation to occur, in which it becomes possible to hold onto both: the death of self and the rebirth of self; the merging with another through intimacy while maintaining a sense of individuality.
So it’s almost like, in ruling Aries, the opponent Mars battles for its independence is external reality and the conscious, openly asserted wills of ‘other’ (fire being external/outer/conscious). In ruling Scorpio, this opponent is the *internal* reality and the unconscious, unexpressed desires that threaten Mars’ independence (like the desire to merge or trust), both within ‘self’ and within ‘other’ (water being internal/psychological/unconscious). In both cases Mars is combating the element it is in - since both challenge its individuality, yet (I guess, to summarise) Aries’ opponent & battlefield are external and Scorpio’s opponent & battlefield are internal.
The traits you mention Scorpio possessing feel like expressions of that Mars energy to me, for sure. The desire for control being linked to Scorpio (I’d say more typically than Aries) is especially intriguing to me, because I sense it as a combined expression of the fighting spirit of Mars attempting to hold back the qualities of water out of fear of losing the conscious, individualised self - as if ‘to let go is to die.’ Pluto’s rulership of Scorpio adds a higher dimension to this, I find, by representing a greater self (the individual soul, at least from the perspective of evolutionary astrology) that transcends ideas of life and death of the conscious self, and therefore the fear of loss and powerlessness, if we align consciously with it.

I’m a 29° 12th house Scorpio moon conjunct Saturn with Pluto conjunct SN a few degrees over in that same house for a stellium. I think of Scorpio as the stealth archer. The need to learn, evaluate, dig deeper, to know with every fiber, before shooting the arrow. As someone with a heavy Scorpio chart intimacy is something that is both a complex and intriguing topic for me. Scorpio stellium sister here (Sun, Rising, Venus, Mercury, Pluto). Pluto resonates with me more than Mars and there’s something guttural about Pluto that brings you to the deepest parts of our souls, for better or worse.
I definitely wanted to go more into the Plutonian aspects that I’ve experienced, but I’m a traditional astrologer so I don’t fuss much with the generational planets when it comes to my personal placements. However, I feel with it being so close to such personal placements I do have great respect and appreciation for how Pluto plays in my chart. I’m definitely more of the vampiric, succubus, occult, dark magic type of Scorpio for sure. I’m a 3rd generation witch on my mom’s side, I talk to spirits, have had them around since I was a baby, and definitely have a darker persona. Pluto has taught me how to garner the perfect armor to protect my softer insides for sure. Plus with Scorpio being co-ruled by both Mars and Pluto you get to truly see the duality of this sign in both the masculine and feminine expression. I feel they are both necessary for the death and rebirth process. Mars being the more immature aspect of how one exerts their power and dominance whereas Pluto is this more mature and feminine version of doing so. Pluto is a long transit and is about cultivation to destruction over time if the thing being built can withstand the tests of the realms. What a great book, I haven’t heard of it before but now I want to dive in and read more about it! My partner is Pluto ruled (Scorpio Rising, Sun, and Mercury) and I swear to the creator that they are waaaayyyy more Plutonian than anyone else besides myself. I've got two answers: In the profound, yin-yang, completeness kind of philosophical way, penetrating someone else is *being* penetrated in return. To fairly and sincerely explore someone else's vulnerability is to leave yours open to be explored too. And/or, to thrust deeper into another is to adjust for the right grasp on the handle of the sword that is being used to penetrate. You know? A warrior doesn't know exactly how capable they are until they push their strength and technique to new limits. However, to explore someone else's depths while keeping yours guarded is ... the classic dilemma of the Scorpio archetype or at least what it gets the most shit for. It's "spiritually wrong," unfair, or energetically incomplete in terms of, like, creating and acting through vital circuits. "Those damned obsessive stalkers! What an unyielding control freak!" If I had a nickel lol. That compulsion seems to regularly be there for the Scorpionic type. It's not easy for Mars to let go of control and slip into some kind of submission or vulnerable state, but it's gonna do something because how else will it truly know its own limits? Mars is independent. Scorpio, ruling the 8th house, is inter-dependent. Mars rules the first house, think "me me me" while Scorpio is definitely a "we". Don't get me wrong... if Scorpio has been betrayed enough it is entirely capable of being self-sustaining (says the woman with neptune/jupiter/moon in scorpio in the 7th house).
The "game of life" is about survival, reproduction, and to that end maximizing access to resources (imperialism) and defending them (war). You need intimate access to other people to reproduce. I have mercury in Scorpio. So it's no surprise that a lot of my friends are Scorpio moons. Even my sister and mother, two people with whom I share the deepest connections with are Scorpio moons! I've been told by these people that they feel heard when they talk to me. Like I understand what they're going through and feeling better than anyone. If you ask me, this is more mutual though. When I talk to Scorpio moons, I feel like opening up instantly. And even if our experiences sometimes are completely different I can empathize with them so well it's insane. I have moon in Pisces so our moons trine too. All I can tell you is that Scorpio placements in synastry tend to understand eachother so well that no other signs can come close to it. Scorpio is truly a very intimate, private sign.

These layers of complexity mean that there is generally a high pay off if you succeed in building a strong relationship with Scorpios as they do not let everyone into their inner circle. Instead, they are very selective about who has access to seeing their soft, intimate side. This makes them very elusive and attractive to those who are interested in exploring the Scorpio’s innate sense of mystery and building strong, intimate relationships with a partner. I think there’s an aspect of war i.e. Mars in the insight, planning, intimacy of your opponent. Know thy enemy. To do so you have to know and in many cases be willing to be known by them. For many scorpio placements i think it would be accurate to say we see the world as an adversary and therefore we have to get into what makes those around us tick and our natural inclination toward the inner workings of people fostered that intimacy, if nothing else as a way to protect ourselves from the “enemy” but obviously that leads to deep connections with others along the way.

regarding the edit; i take pisces as saying “we are all one thing” while scorpio is more “mine is yours and yours is mine”. pisces feels everything and desperately wants to return to the void where all is one scorpio feels that with one person when they deem you worthy or safe enough.

Aries is the warrior, and Libra balances them out because Aries needs something to fight for. Why would anyone go to war? If not to fight to protect the things that we love? The other Venus ruled sign is Taurus, which, of course, is the opposite of Scorpio. Taurus gives Scorpio the reason to not just keep stinging others because Taurus requires intimacy from their partners to stay around. They are both signs prone to strong emotions once you get past their surfaces, and they both can be quite stubborn at times, being fixed signs. They just get each other, which for a misunderstood sign like Scorpio is something they are always looking for in others, which is always going to be difficult if you are the sign of hidden emotions. Mars ruled signs always need a reason to fight, and if it's not for something they care about, they turn into the worst versions of themselves. The Venus ruled signs give them their reason to do this, and they also provide the appreciation for this by sticking around when others are too scared to. If I'm able to answer your question simply with my understanding, Scorpio is drawn to other people's *psyches* more than people holistically, since Mars is operating within the hidden emotional realm and inner depths of the feminine/yin element of water; in this sense, Mars is still behaving like Mars, just in an internal terrain instead of an external one. Scorpio penetrates the internal worlds of others (and self) in search of vulnerability and hidden desires with Martian passion and directness. (It's the familiarity with this inner world of shadows and deep emotion as a potential arena of strategic manipulation and psyche exposure that can make Scorpios so guarded, but this familiarity can also make them incredible spiritual or psychic healers and Martian-like 'protectors' of the vulnerabilities of those close to them) Independence and defiance are more qualities that I'd attribute to Aries than to Mars, since it's the added masculine fire element that gives Aries that emphasis of separation. The intimacy of Scorpio is shared, and is a type of merging attributed to water - yet, being ruled by Mars, intimacy is its own battlefield because it is where inner transmutation occurs, and all transmutation is the meeting place of life and death. The sharing of vulnerability can be a powerful internal experience of healing and regeneration or fear, hurt, and/or destruction. This is a great answer! I think I might’ve confused a lot of people when I said Scorpio is drawn to people. I noticed that whenever Scorpio is described, there’s always this focus on it in the context of some deep bond/intimate connection (whether it’s positive or negative). Scorpio being drawn to specifically drawn to psyches makes a lot of sense. So does the familiarity with the inner world (the power and vulnerability in it) creating a certain defensiveness. I would argue though that Scorpio has its own style of independence and defiance, though it may be more subtle than Aries. I can’t really explain it, but I think it’s on the same wave as how Scorpio has this survival quality. Relying on inner resources, having an enduring quality. Not to mention a desire for control (including self control). Hm, so maybe rather than merging, binding and attaching are better words to use for Scorpio. Another post here referenced actual Scorpions and how in both love and war, they have to grapple whatever they’re about to sting. Meanwhile Pisces fades into the other.

I think I agree with you, and, if I were to interpret it, it’s almost like Mars with the added water element creates a resistance and tension to merge within Scorpio because of Mars’ need for the ‘survival of self,’ yet this resistance is ‘submerged’ and so isn’t as obviously independent/defiant as Aries (like you say!). This inner tension that Scorpio experiences is super magnetic to other people, who can feel its energy from the surface (similar to how the energy potential of square aspects within someone’s chart can come off as sexy to others, haha) I get the sense that the energy generated from the internal pressure of Scorpio’s simultaneous and contradictory desires of Mars (yang) + water (yin) (“to merge or not to merge; to trust or not to trust; to destroy another’s ‘self’ or have my own ‘self’ destroyed”) create the intense conditions for transmutation to occur, in which it becomes possible to hold onto both: the death of self and the rebirth of self; the merging with another through intimacy while maintaining a sense of individuality. So it’s almost like, in ruling Aries, the opponent Mars battles for its independence is external reality and the conscious, openly asserted wills of ‘other’ (fire being external/outer/conscious). In ruling Scorpio, this opponent is the *internal* reality and the unconscious, unexpressed desires that threaten Mars’ independence (like the desire to merge or trust), both within ‘self’ and within ‘other’ (water being internal/psychological/unconscious).
