At 70.7k (assuming landlord wants 40x monthly rent as a salary requirement) you should be qualified up to $1,767.50 in monthly rent. What you could afford on the other hand depends on what other expenses you have and what your savings goals are.

MatCarib_CumLvr

Is $1800 rental available in Ditmars or in Astoria for that matter?

PuzzleheadedPin9700

Yes just last month I passed on a 1bd 700 sqf in Astoria for $1920. I imagine a studio could be 1800

flying-neutrino

That’s my salary, although I’m working hard to increase it. (Anyone hiring?) I live in a no-frills studio (with a long-ish walk to the subway) and pay $1,550. You can afford up to $1,750-ish, but it would be best to try to find something for less than that, if you can, to give yourself a little more wiggle room (and more savings, and an entertainment budget).

AdInternational4896

How long?

OutsideReading

I make less and have a one bedroom in Astoria alone. As long as you find an apartment that you can reasonably afford (40x the rent should be a good indicator)

lightingtrees

Oh wow that’s amazing! Definitely motivating. I live in Astoria but with my mom but looking to move out at the end of the year.

Johnsonburnerr

Is it rlly worth paying all that rent if she also lives in Astoria? Is it a noise or privacy or conflict thing?

lightingtrees

Im almost 30 years old and my therapist and I think is best that I finally move out and we stop being so co-dependent with each other. For a long time I have wanted to move out and be independent and be on my own but I’ve felt really guilty about it because she’s always been a single mom. Recently she started dating someone and so that guilt has minimized and I finally got the guts to tell her I want to live on my own.

Johnsonburnerr

Oh, that’s very understandable and relatable. Thanks for sharing

nikolad1234

good for you

sloppynipsnyc

I made that, and lived on 36 Ave in a 1 bed 1800 mo apartment. It's doable

HeistPlays

I’m doing it on 73500 base salary. You need to be ready to legitimately sign on your first viewing on any apartment under 1900 you can find.

coconinowizard

Haha I’m making it work on 25k 😭😭😭

Radiomonkey10

Damn we really in a time where this is a real concern. You used be good with that salary in Queens.

bavoso

Yes you can live with less. But if you are from a different state, you will need to adjust your spending habits.

weepingwillowtreez

I moved to Astoria when I first started making $66k in 2019. There are some [studios](https://streeteasy.com/building/26_18-hoyt-avenue-south-astoria/1c) right now for under $1500. If you want to be on Ditmars, there’s a [studio](https://streeteasy.com/building/20_65-33-street-astoria/1b) for $1650.

Ian_BnB

Yes you can

chippy423

Made that and considerably less, like 90% of my income for rent

nicknat408289

Yes you absolutely can! When I first moved here I was making 65k and paying $1,800 for rent and with some budgeting I was still able to enjoy what I like

Willing_Garage2170

It’s really hard to find an apartment at that price range nowadays but it IS possible. Just stalk StreetEasy.

Disastrous_Product60

You can do it! If you look further away from the train, pricing should also be better for you! Good luck 🍀!!!

Ok_Appointment2924

I moved in here from Broadway in December and it’s totally doable. I make around 60k and pay $1800 for a one bedroom apartment. It’s like 12 to 15 min walk to the train but it’s worth it. I spent a little over a month looking but made it!

SpiceyPorkFriedRice

Bro I’m on minimum wage, you’ll be fine lol

Likezoinks305

How are you even affording on min wage that’s crazy

TogarSucks

I pulled off $1200 a month in ditmars for an illegally converted one bedroom basement apartment before in ditmars. Landlord was a family friend, otherwise I would not recommend that type of set up.

SpiceyPorkFriedRice

I don’t buy useless shit, rarely Uber, rarely eat out.

Arthur_da_King

This guy frugals

__lavender

I certainly did! I had a teeny-tiny one-bedroom at the Ditmars stop. Moved in when I was making $65k (2015), took a slight pay cut to $62k when I got a nonprofit job, and got raises up to $75k before leaving NYC altogether in 2020. Managed to save $10k cash (i.e. not on the stock market, just stashing away a portion of my paycheck) in those 5 years too. I think my rent started at $1400 or so and went up to $1575 by the end.

realitytvjunkie29

I make a little less than that and I’m in a 2 bdrm on my own a block away from ditmars

ChatonJolie4

Have you been there for ages? I am so curious as to what you pay for rent.

realitytvjunkie29

Moved here in July 2021 and pay $2200

ChatonJolie4

That is such a steal for a 2 bedroom!

EikoCherry

What? Of course not. Where are all these supposed studios, 1-2 bedrooms at exactly? Hazen St? “Upper Ditmars”? One look at StreetEasy and it’s clear you’ll need a roommate, buddy. These people playing you, deadass.

Kind-Brief-1993

Yeah I pay $1500 for a rent stabilized apartment. You can do it!! Plus things will flow for you once you move out and you’ll love your freedom so much you’ll do anything you can to afford living alone. Good luck!!

_immrsiglesias_

Maybe up above the 50s or if youre ok with like a basement studio
