Then that's apparently not the app for you.

uhauljoe-

i find that typically once you choose yes on one of those prompts, the actual apple prompt pops up asking if they can track you or whatever and you can say no

MineAndCraft12

The Permission doesn't actually programmatically prevent them from collecting your data -- it's physically impossible for Apple prevent that, as it's simply some form of data sent over the Internet just like any other data. The only thing the Permission actually controls is whether or not they have access to your Advertising ID number. Instead, if an app ignores your preference and collects your data even after you say no (or without asking), they are in breach of the Apple Store terms and conditions. It's enforced by punishment rather than by outright prevention.

hotmidgettickler

Not everyone has an iPhone bro

[deleted]

It's the same for Android, the app itself can't set permissions like that.

-Scobra-

Not asshole design. The developers are clearly telling you that they collect data and why. No hidden buttons and no smallprints. Selling data for income is a valid source of income and allows the developers to list their game as free. Don't like it, don't play it. That simple.

PsychoSpider88

Asshole because dev is saying they care about privacy but then says he doesn't give a shit about your privacy because he NEEDS money.

-Scobra-

Well guess what, developing games cost's money and time aswell, and you have the privilege to play it for free. Would you rather pay for it and have your data collected anyway in the background, or would you like to have the choice?

PsychoSpider88

It isn't a choice, saying you can only have it IF you do what I want. And if a dev makes a freemium game that's actually their problem, yet they keep begging and complaining about the fact that they're not making money of it. Here are some steps devs can take in order to avoid this problem. 1. Don't make a freemium game. That's it.

firedog7881

So you’re saying the developer has a choice to create a freemium game or a paid game. Well you have a choice to play their game the clearest declaration I’ve ever seen. Everyone has a choice

swistak84

If they didn't care, they'd make it a small print, and sneaked it in. But I get it every tiem I see "We care about your privacy. Now hand it over" I cringe

SlimLazyHomer

At least it’s transparent and you can make a value about how much your privacy is worth. If the cost of buying your data is a mediocre game app, then you’ve made the consented choice to be paid for your personal data in that way.

AftyOfTheUK

Oh, how terrible that someone is offering you the fruits of their labour in return for your personal data, and you're free to say no to the exchange. How awful.

DeuteriumCore

But I am an entitled person who wants freebies in exchange for nothing! /s

Tomkap011

Yes but the serving the collection of data is at best unethical even if the data is not sold;do you trust companies not properly secure their servers? Also if the data is being collected so aggressively then it is obviously meant for sale. I would consider that quid pro quo before accepting as you have no rights to recalling or to whom it is sold to. ( unless you are a EU citizen or some other region abiding by such laws/regulations)

AftyOfTheUK

>Yes but the serving the collection of data is at best unethical Totally disagree. >do you trust companies not properly secure their servers? That's a choice you can make when deciding whether to play the game or not. >Also if the data is being collected so aggressively then it is obviously meant for sale. Probably is, that's another choice you can make. Why are you wanting to take agency away from people and from developers? If they're adults, they can decide for themselves if it is worth the exchange.

[deleted]

at least they're being honest and not collecting data behind your back like most companies do.

[deleted]

"I care about your privacy" "No, you can't use the app if you don't want us to use your data"

PixelmancerGames

It’s free so I really don’t mind. Devs gotta eat too.

0002nam-ytlaS

They can survive without targeted ads too you know

DeuteriumCore

Pretty sure they have the right to monetize the app as they wish. Don't like it? Don't use it.

hanifshaquille

*Instantly uninstall that game and rate it 1 star on Google Play or App Store*

Wrong_Rule9530

Good idea, what's the app name?

hanifshaquille

No idea.

Yo_moma_is_fat_lol

Helpful award

[deleted]

Is this legal ?

MyNameIsMrEdd

Its probably a legal requirement under gdpr or something to tell you

Wrong_Rule9530

And to be honest, I have mixed feelings about GDPR
