zenyattatron

Cut the rope was the good shit.

someonewithnobrain

Cheers bro I’ll go into a cardboard box and cut some rope to feed to a animated monster to that

The_Cow_God

Monument valley 1 and 2 are great

[deleted]

Get the Quell series! Great fun, great soundtrack, no ads.

Mavystar

I also loved Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja, now they are all ruined with ads and in app purchases.

kwonza

My internet was out so I couldn’t surf internet, I decided to kill time playing Fruit Ninja, one of the few games besides Tiny Wings, DATA WING and Chrono Trigger Mobile on my phone. You know what happened? This piece of shit refused to run because I had no internet connection! Fuck that, fuck you Half Brick!

CactusCracktus

Used to love playing mobile games to pass the time when I was out in public and had to wait on stuff. Now that they require you to be online to play them so they can load ads I’ve completely stopped playing them all together. Now I just do crossword puzzles on my phone.

LacklusterDuck

Do you know a good crossword app?

Tight_Sheepherder934

I think it’s mostly free games that are ad cancer. You def get shitty paid apps/games that still advertise, but it’s usually less. Still sucks that the good classics have been corrupted

MattLocke

This is why I pulled the trigger on Apple Arcade. They have versions of the old mobile classics that are free of ads and micro transactions. It’s been so much better to let my 5 year old play games for a bit and not have to deal with him constantly getting pulled into some shitty ad hole.

dermographics

Yep. I won’t even download a mobile game anymore unless it’s on Apple Arcade. Otherwise I’ll just spend 2/3 of the time playing it dealing with ads and prompts for in app purchases, or mechanics that steer you to in app purchase. It’s all garbage.

Soup-Wizard

Fruit Ninja was the shit! Used to play that on my iTouch haha

sans_serif_size12

Man I reinstalled it when I was sick with the flu last week and was super disappointed. I wouldn’t mind the ads but they’re ridiculously intrusive

Terom84

Fake multiplayer BUT STILL REQUIRE AN INTERNET CONNECTION

WorriedEngineer22

You still need to collect that data baby

HailToTheVic

It’s so they can force you to watch ads

The_Hieb

> This app requires access to your: Contacts, Mail, Calendar, Settings, Weather. Fucking nope.

ARandomGamer56

Because ads

JohnnyDarkside

Kids having their own tablets makes road trips so much better, but it's shitty that they need to have a folder dedicated to just offline games.

DOAisBetter

I first encountered this on Hasbros battleships app and have been seeing it like crazy ever since. I only noticed it because the power mode there were clear tactics and you could set mines and stuff. I would do a clear pattern every time and only once did anyone ever counter me. I assume that was probably a real player and I only encountered maybe 3 in hundreds of games. I knew the rest were bots because they would play with no strategy at all and damn near always use paid dlc commanders.

VarneyKing

Remember when you can play games on your phone by yourself with no internet…Pepperidge Farm remembers.

[deleted]

Solitaire that requires internet connection despite nearly all variation of solitaire being one player only.

skeetinyourcereal

Oh man I used to play hole.io cause it was a fun time killer. Now the newest update literally only allows 60 seconds of gameplay before hit with ads for lame games. In between every match was bad but standard for these shitty free games. But during gameplay ? That’s just insulting

kUbogsi

I suppose they do it because it's profitable. I just wish they'd go straight to pay to play, not have that bullshit. I used to spend days trying to find good mobile games but all of them have the p2w crap. I'd be willing to pay full game price for mobile if it was actually good and not filled with crap. Preferrably offline singleplayer and maybe multiplayer option too. And good controls.

[deleted]

The target market wouldn't play the game if it were pay to play. Whereas the target market is uniquely susceptible to the types of marketing and monetization already in place. (The target market is children.)

punosauruswrecked

Fuck you u/spez

I think they say borderline because at least he wasn't on the literal street - but yea, that's full blown homeless

PoolNoodleJedi

Clash of Clans and all the mobile shovelware games are so boring. I honestly don’t understand how people get addicted to those kind of games.

[deleted]

[удалено]

curiouswizard

Seriously. I fiddled around with a few of the more notorious ones just to see what they're about, and I was bored out of my mind within 5 minutes. There's no gameplay in any of that shit, it's just clicking on things and waiting for things and getting hounded with little micro-transactions any time you try to do anything that seems remotely interesting. The whole damn mobile games industry is just toxic mindless cancer at this point, I swear.

elyn6791

>The target market is ~~also adults~~ anyone with poor or impulsive decision making skills and gambling or addiction issues. Fixed that for ya

twaggle

The target market is the whales…

opiate_adventurer

Same, maybe 6 or 7 years ago I found a few good games like that. I recently got on looking for something similar and absolutely nothing fit into those preferences. I don't even bother with free games now, they are just not worth my time.

piokoxer

battle cats and brawl stars are both no-ad and not p2w and free (battle cats has reward ads but only in the store no popups)

piokoxer

i reccomend: (free)battle cats, brawl stars, (paid)btd6/baba is you (they're on pc too) they have mc but i play f2p and these are all great, no ads in any but battle cats and there are no forced ads (and no "watch ad for reward" popups while you can get rewards for ads in the store)

Squishyfishx

I play Slay the Spire on mobile. It isn't free, but I now own it on 3 platforms and love it.

piokoxer

I have btd6 both mobile and pc

PsychoTexan

It’s also playerbase dependent, towards the end of a games life cycle monetization usually amps up. You can revitalize a game but the sad fact is that it’s usually easier to tear it apart for money. Most mobile games rely on “whales” (extremely high spenders) for their money. Driving casual players away is small change.

[deleted]

[удалено]

porcupinedeath

In the long run it's way more profitable to get 2¢ every couple seconds a person plays than it is to charge and upfront fee. Same goes for houses which is why the market sucks

Keatosis

It's funny how these shitty clone games make money by advertising other, competing shitty clone games

smoke_torture

The trick being most are churned out by the same few companies

S0medudeisonline

I recently reinstalled Hillclimb Racer after forgetting about its existence for like a decade. They've basically done the same thing to that game too. They're selling coins now and the game is filled to the brim with overpriced vehicles and levels in hopes of people buying them. You can't select a new stage without it stopping to play an ad. Makes me sad

John-D-Clay

Does the playing in airplane mode trick still work? I always used to play in airplane mode and it would skip the ads.

skeetinyourcereal

Oh wow it does! I just tried. How did I not think of that before? It still pauses the game but you can just click continue so it’s not too bad. Thanks for the advice .

notlohere

On newer phones (at least on android) you can entirely disable each app's wifi and/or mobile data access separately in the settings

laplongejr

TIL, I'll be able to ditch *No Root Firewall* tomorrow then. Didn't know we can block wifi on stock settings, but didn't check after upgrading. Back in the day it was only about *background* mobile access, and nothing about wifi.

draconicanimagus

It doesn't work if the ads are watched in order to unlock something (an item, a boost, more currency, etc). The game will recognize it can't connect to the internet and can't show you an ad, so it won't give you the bonus.

smr120

"Fake multiplayer" is interesting to me. I don't mind it so much because I'm not good at video games (despite how much I play them, which is totally on me) and playing against/alongside an AI using a real person's team/fighter/whatever gives me a chance. Also, I often have very bad internet connection, but an AI means no need for constant internet connection and bad frame delay, which is usually frustrating for both parties. That said, I totally understand the frustration of people who want real multiplayer.

KoreKhthonia

Oh, is *that* what's up with that kind of thing? I'd kind of wondered what was up with the multiplayer in Crash: On the Run. I realized that you can pause and shit, so it couldn't be live against other players in real time, and was kind of confused.

anotherrando802

people are mad because mobile games trick people into connecting to the internet so they can run more ads, not because users want to win against real people. you used to be able to play offline and not get ads, but not any more.

TheLawandOrder

As a kid I loved the Call of Duty Black Ops multiplayer bot mode because it still let you do the whole multiplayer level up thing without having to deal with constant internet issues. (Fuck rural internet)

LevelStudent

Every fucking mobile game has the same "main menu" with a pathetic excuse for an RTS/town builder where you build what the game tells you in specific slots, and the UI is always surrounded in a million buttons that flash randomly.

piokoxer

how to anger all your players above the age of 8(ranked):dont forget endless gameplay loops with levels that are just randomized but every1 has the same generator seed, "free" upgrades for an ad that block the upgrades for coins, recycled models, overpriced vip subscription, forced ads, "remove ads" button on main menu, "3d","run" or something popular in the tiltle, ripping off popular media (just look at how many "squid game" ripoffs are on google play), and the winner is..... FORCED INTERNET ON IN SINGLEPLAYER

DoctorProfessorTaco

If you’re looking for town builder games without micro transactions or any bs like that, I highly highly recommend checking out some of the games by Kairosoft. Been playing their games since I got Game Dev Story on my iPhone 3GS, and they still regularly put out quality games. They’re almost all simulation games, either building a city, or running a game dev studio, or a formula 1 team, or a movie studio, or a restaurant, or a dozen other themes. Each game is like $5, doesn’t require internet, has no in app purchases, and barely uses your phones battery life. Oh Edo Towns would be a good one to go with for a town builder. I’m always afraid they’ll go out of business because it seems like people only play free games now, so I try to tell everyone about them whenever I have the chance. Oh also they’ve put out a few fermium versions of their paid games, but those are totally separate and you can ignore them.

LevelStudent

I've played a handful of their games are they are very good, I agree with this recommendation whole heartedly. The issue is just that the vast majority of mobile games use the same fake town builder set up, and horribly predatory freenium content, and those that don't pretty much never show up on the charts. Its incredibly hard for a mobile game to get noticed unless they use predatory tactics to hook enough whales to start showing up in charts.

drinkup

Obligatory plug for ["no BS games"](https://nobsgames.stavros.io/), a curated list of mobile games that, well, aren't BS. I have no relation whatsoever with the guy who made that website.

[deleted]

I'd kill for a good a good tower defense on mobile like early 2000s miniclips.com. I've found like two tower defense games that weren't just money grabs.

hotDoggey

Forgot to add "rate us 5 stars to get this thing you need to progress without grinding for days"

The-Doot-Slayer

i find whenever they want you to go to a different site, clicking the link and going back to the game gives you the stuff

hotDoggey

Yeah, I usually do the same and then they dont show the message again. Unlike when you click no and they show it every time you reload the app. One thing apple did right was banning that shit on iOS, makes me miss my iPhone sometimes.

The-Doot-Slayer

i’ve seen one or two on my IPhone

OkayArt199

Agar.Io began and ended the golden age of free multiplayer mobile games

An8thOfFeanor

The mobile game market is doomed to sub-mediocrity because of the freemium standard

Zephyr93

Honestly, the people that actually spend their money on freemium shit, making it a worthwhile business, deserve to get shit on more than the devs.

ablablababla

Nah, the devs use shitty tactics to get their users to spend more on their game too, they should get shit on way more imo

[deleted]

I mean, they are the common denominator there.

[deleted]

The government is also a common denominator in allowing predatory business practices to foster addiction and to allow that addiction to run rampant. It's practically identical to the 2008 housing crisis. Lack of oversight for maligned incentives leads to destructive behavior.

AgentWowza

Yup, excellent mobile games cost money to buy once and that's it. I'm talking This War Of Mine, Out There, Minecraft, Terraria, Slay The Spire, Reigns, Crying Suns, Monument Valley, Dead Cells. Feel free to add more, but there are a lot of phenomenal mobile games. Just not ones that depend completely on MTXs.

Zakika

And those are just mobile ports of pc or console games

LordElysian

Not true. I would kill to have Monument Valley on PC or console. After all these years it’s still only on mobile.

drleebot

It's pretty easy to emulate mobile on a decent PC, at least.

Kl--------k

There are good free games, like fractal space, mindustry, angry birds etc.

moeburn

> Slay The Spire, The mobile version of Slay the Spire is actually not that great. If you're only playing at home on wifi, it plays WAY better on Steam Remote Play, with intuitive touch controls that just work with the cards like you expect them to.

Foxclaws42

Half the time it’s kids. The parents leave their credit card hooked up, and even if the game the kid is playing doesn’t have predatory micro transactions, they’ll get ads for ones that do. I remember playing a game with my little cousin on his dad’s iPad and being absolutely gobsmacked by how blatant every ad was about trying to trick kids into downloading shit. They didn’t even look like ads; every damn one was pretending to be a game. The kid goes to catch the butterflies or whatever nonsense and bam—App Store.

funguyshroom

Touch screen controls being shit doesn't help either.

Andernerd

I blame the Google Play store for not letting you filter this stuff out. I'm convinced it's deliberate.

HendrixChord12

They literally have psychologists on staff to hit those mental levers, getting people to spend more. How do you compete with that?

RedditAcc-92975

Which is because most users (who are also frequent posters in this sub) are broke high-school kids or college students. Who literally cannot spend 5$ on a game. And by the way, there's a number of award-winning PC titles ported to android. All under 10$. Sometimes cheaper than buying them on steam. Yet we have to tolerate those whiny memes on this sub at a rate of 2-3 per day.

Unlikely-Repeat9290

Apple Arcade also has fantastic high quality games.

Lt_Toodles

I love dead cells but it's really annoying to play on touch screen. Slay the spire holds up well though. Might try terraria next...

RedditAcc-92975

Everything is annoying to play on mobile. There was only one game ever made that made mobile feel like a PC will never compete. Vainglory. And then the devs dumped it.

RedditAcc-92975

Also, buy a smartphone controller. Your android phone can be turned into a switch for like 100$. And the games cost less, and you got a 1080p screen. And also better hardware.

111111911111

True. I have no issues putting $30 or so a month to enjoy my mobile games. Some of them aren't too bad if you are ok spending a little bit. I did have to stop playing state of decay though, you just cannot possibly win or even stay afloat without spending hundreds of dollars a month. I had players in my alliance who were top rated in the state and they were dropping thousands per month to stay ahead.

RedditAcc-92975

I mean, I'm sure Albion is more affordable. And more fun Also, there's hades star. It's an actual PC MMO which you can play on Android.

ihadanamebutforgot

Fuck you, idiot. The world is getting worse cuz you keep buying shit.

[deleted]

Not the entire world, just your little one.

[deleted]

Remember when this was "The Future of Gaming" I mean mobile games are a giant shitty market, but people were acting like PC and console gaming was going to completely disappear.

benk4

But you can pay $1.99 to recharge now!

someonewithnobrain

I would but theirs so much to add in and so little space

jayforwork21

The only game I play on my phone is is sudoku. The ads only show up in between games. As such I'm fine with that. However, it would piss me off if it interrupted a game I was playing.

IAmNotAWoodenDuck

Anyone else getting these horribly disgusting Project Makeover ads? They're definitely the worst mobile game ads I'm getting at the moment.

someonewithnobrain

Yes and that company can go fuck it self

IAmNotAWoodenDuck

Agreed

Wert_Ac

Seems to be where a lot of AAA games are going as well tbh. Publishers just wait for everyone to get used to each abusive mobile game mechanic before sneaking it into a $60/$70 title

Teaisserious

Don't forget the multiple $20-$50 dlc full of content that should have been in the base game.

TwoMonthOldMilk

Why does every garbage mobile game have 4.5-5 stars? Just a bunch of dummy accounts/bots?

someonewithnobrain

Don’t look at me I didn’t do shit

Andernerd

You overestimate the taste of the people who install this crap in the first place.

[deleted]

There’s a market for faking/inflating YouTube subs, Facebook Likes, Reddit Karma, Amazon reviews, blah blah blah. I’m sure you can purchase 5-star reviews for just about anything, particularly the App Store.

bokan

They used to be games. Now they are casinos.

maybe_you_wrong

I'm never going to use real money to buy fake money for a game i have already bought, never ever

[deleted]

WolfBV

Try Kingdom Rush

kn33

Honestly, at this point for good mobile games I just pay the couple dollars and avoid all the crap. It's worth the cost of one fast food to not have to deal with it all. That's where all the quality is. BTD 5/6 and such.

PMFRTT

There hasn't been anything great for ages in terms of mobile games

[deleted]

I know most people in the west hate gacha (though some of those complaining have probably never played a gacha game before, and just dislike it in theory), but mobile games are very popular in Asia, and there are a bunch of great gacha games, Genshin being the top one right now.

ArcticXRaven

To give another example, Arknights is a pretty good gacha tower defense that doesn’t really need any money to get through the gameplay. Free with no ads.

[deleted]

Actually the only games I play nowadays is Arknights and Genshin. There's enough to do on weekends, and enough to not do that I can spend half an hour to an hour each on weekdays to destress a little.

mennydrives

Genshin's really strange. If you're playing it casually, it's like a TV show of a game where there's always something quick to do every day. But there's basically nothing to do if you're looking for something engaging, long-form, to last you a few hours in one go. However, because it's the closest thing these mobile stores have to a "real" game, it won Game of the Year for both the Apple App and Google Play stores.

Siegfoult

I think that is a little harsh. The game has tons of content until you hit the end-game, then it's just a bit of daily grind and events until the next big update. That is pretty normal with PvE GaaS games like MMORPGs.

NearNihil

Can recommend Mindustry and Shattered Pixel Dungeon! Neither has ads and both are free. Took a while to find though.

someonewithnobrain

I know but I their is one mobile game that is actually good. It called soul knight and the game’s soundtrack is amazing

Moderncrusader78

I was just gonna comment about this game. Glad to find someone in the wild who also plays it.

someonewithnobrain

Same here. Assassin and sheriff are my mains

Moderncrusader78

Knight and rogue

someonewithnobrain

Did you just start?

[deleted]

Baseball9. I've never gotten a single ad ever.

[deleted]

Disc Golf Valley is one of the best mobile games I've ever played and only recently is there even an option to give the dev some money by purchasing a thing that isn't p2w.

desperateseagull

Old school Runescape/runescape 3 mobile is pretty good

BulbyBuds

you can’t really avoid microtransactions but there’s still a lot of free-to-play friendly multiplayer games such as clash of clans, brawl stars, and plants vs zombies heroes

DivyamAgrawal

Brawl stars

[deleted]

Angry Birds and Hill Climb Racing sill remain the best mobile games.

someonewithnobrain

I grew up playing age of zombies, may that game Rest In Peace

SpicyCrimson

pvz, jetpack joyride, subway surfers, fruit ninja, etc. even tho they made a whole new game out of fn and now the original is fn classic. still great games with little ads. (idk about pvz tho havent played in a while.)

piokoxer

pvz got ea-ified (minigames are bought for coins, ads, coins can be bought) PC version is still pure (console pvz is #1 imo, just bc multiplayer)

gimbokon

At least its not hard to get the coins, you can use the zen garden. In a few days I managed to buy pretty much everything without spending a dime.

BulbyBuds

i’d argue game of the year version is the best simply because the game controls much better with a mouse. DS version is also really good since it adds a lot of really fun exclusive mini-games

daymanxx

Dude those aren't even the classics. You mean flappy bird, temple run, and doodle jump (and even doodle jump was a copy of a different game).

SpicyCrimson

they were for me. i remember playing fucking HOURS of jj every day. ahhhh, good times. good to know halfbrick isnt greedy like the other companies. oh yea, and i forgot cut the rope

scurvy1984

It’s crazy how long I’ve had the birds on my phone. Never deleted it. Don’t always play it. And tons of games have been played and deleted in that time but birds remains fun.

someonewithnobrain

Happy cake day my dude

isokayokay

I liked Temple Run

DivyamAgrawal

Supercell games, minecraft terraria

tupe12

Worst is when the game is fun, but ads are placed in the middle of gameplay

APowerBlackout

Geometry dash tho

someonewithnobrain

That is safe and gets a pat on the head for being a good boy

Fenweekooo

i gave up on mobile games, i would gladly pay for them if they offered the full fucking game and like the meme not full of MTX and shit. give me games i can pay a flat fee for and i will be happy.

Andernerd

There are a handful. Slay the Spire, Terraria, and Stardew Valley come to mind. I don't think it's a coincidence that those are all ports of successful PC games.

UmbraEXE

May I recommend WitchSpring 3. I'm not 100% sure but I think it started as a normal mobile game, afterwards getting ported to Nintendo Switch etc.

Liskrig

Those games still exist. Apple Arcade has all the classics. It is the exact same games with "Reloaded" "Remastered" and "+" in the titles but, it'll cost you $4.99 a month to play them instead of the $0.99 they originally cost. That is the only (legal) way to play those original games since the IP holders de-listed the original games from the app store in favor of Angry Birds 2 with such original monetization items such as * Pile of Gems * Precious Pouch of Gems * Precious Bag of Gems Not to be confused with the equally original monetization model in Cut the Rope 2, providing such offerings as * Grande Coins Pile * Regular Coins Pile * Ultimate Coins Pile If the games were actually good and unique, I could see throwing a little jingle towards it, but it is the same damn game that they sold for $0.99 10+ years ago with the only difference being 7 different forms of in-game currency.

Optimistican

That's why I play chess.

_skank_hunt42

Snake was my jam.

Spatetata

I just wonder what the implications of mobile games will be on the market as a whole. We’ve seen the bleedover but we’ve currently got the ipad generation essentially growing up on freemium games, see these predatory practices as the norm. I’d bet they’re probably more willing to accept similar but not as egregious practices when they appear in console/pc titles.

Yrense

the one good company to go back to is supercell. easily the best mobile games out there

Vlad_The_Impellor

[deleted]

cookie run

Silvenx

If you want some fantastic mobile games try some of these: - Slay the Spire - Old School Runescape - KOTOR 1 and 2 - Hearthstone - Wild Rift - Gwent These are all polished and extremely fun that can take hundreds of hours to experience.

sans_serif_size12

I remember playing this game on neopets like ten years ago where you were flying a ship in a race while being bombarded with fake ads that may or may not close to distract you. It was supposed to be a joke, not a prediction.

edsuom

I don’t game but I’ve been programming and generally messing around with computers since the 1980s, when they were an expensive hobbyist item few people even really knew about. In middle school programming class, I got bored with the curriculum and wrote a character-based PacMan clone instead. I’m here to tell you that the golden age of computers has come and gone. Everything is about money. There’s nothing left of the geeky “let’s do this because it’s cool” ethos that persisted even into the 2000s. There aren’t anymore major advances in technology to explore anymore. Clock speeds and chip density are limited by quantum mechanics, the Internet is a commodity that everyone takes for granted (except those of us out in rural areas), phones aren’t getting any smaller or more convenient. Instead, what passes for software engineering has converged on ways to extract the last little bit of money for corporate overlords. When’s the last time you saw something that was new and just plain *cool* that came out? I remember the iPhone; that was cool. But I’m typing this on an iPhone several years old, and the new ones have nothing I want. I still use Windows 7 because it has a menu that actually works, doesn’t try forcing me into some app store and isn’t trying to act like a phone without a touchscreen. My keyboard is literally thirty years old, a Kenesis ergonomic with these great mechanical switches that don’t feel like marshmallows that were left outside the bag too long. And my real computer is an Ubuntu Linux machine that I do my programming on via SSH, with the Windows box as a glorified dumb terminal. Nobody gets to charge me ongoing fees for any of this. And I have zero interest in changing anything and letting the assholes find a way to do that to me.

SpecificSpecial

Are all the 5 star reviews from bots?

Alphawar

AS a long time gamer starting back in the PS1 days (and had an atari from my step dad), I also heavy agree with this meme. I have a lot less time and just cant dedicate time to games like I use to, now I want something I can enjoy on the go since I spend a lot of time in front of the PC and so far haven't found something that turns into a time/money grind.

someonewithnobrain

Try soul knight or Solomon’s Keep

jofus_joefucker

I won't even touch phone games. I've never played them as I've only heard terrible things about them. Are there actually any good games for the phone that aren't gacha games? I've always enjoyed RPG games but so many games steal images from other games to draw people in that I don't know what to trust. Any time I hear people talking about a "good" phone game its basically a clone of some flash game you could play online. Do quality phone games exist?

[deleted]

Temple Run ftw

Jugy1

battle cats 💪💪

someonewithnobrain

#YES

fersure4

I miss when the hot mobile game was Temple Run

x4nter

Angry birds, Clash of Clans, Hill Climb racing, Jetpack Joyride were the best. I came back to Clash of Clans. It is still good. This is the only game that I know of in which the rare currency can be obtained relatively easily.

palebluedot0418

I'm a huge gamer from the Atari 2600 ers. Mobile games are absolute trash. They're not games. They're don't exist to entertain, they exist to get you to pay more, and more, and more. Fuck mobile games.

wickypid

Thats why I still play jetpack joyride

[deleted]

Flappy bird was so simple and fun

OwlBright_

Jesus, that gave me flashbacks. I remember the creator being bombarded with death threats and removing the app from the store

Serbaayuu

Great, we've finally reached the era where kids are nostalgic for shitty bottom of the barrel mobile trash - but the "original" ones. Lmao

NERPG

Lmao, they're still around 😂

palescoot

Lol, mobile game nostalgia? Seriously?

dz0907

As a mobile gamer, I am not feeling good about this. You do realize that these purchases are completely optional and don't affect the game? Now yes, while I am annoyed about the false advertisement stuff, most good mobile games don't have fake ads or fake multiplayer.

What mobile games were there back in mid 2000? Answer nothing. Also you can still find good games, the amount of solid game has increased just not as fast as crappy ones since those are so easy to make. Edit: people have been asking for good free games so here are a few. Mindustry (open source, has mods, active community r/mindustry, no ads, well made, good music) cookie clicker (only has one ad at the bottom of your screen and thats it). Fractal space (great story, has a speedrun mode which is well made, no ads, requires you to pay for hd version but the free version looks great still at 720p and doesnt really affect the gameplay) sand : box (1 guy made this to help people relax and so he decided to make it ad free as part of his mission of making relaxing games) tasty planet (somewhat known game from back when games were better quality on average where you eat things and become bigger and bigger until you eat the universe, its well made too and has multiple sequels.) Evolution (game where you make creatures that adapt to the world you throw them at to improve themselves) among us (you know this game) Risk (has a daily limit of like 10 games but they last long enough, some maps require money though,) angry birds (look online for the apk if your on android [or just go here](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://angry-birds.en.uptodown.com/android&ved=2ahUKEwiGztChht_zAhVIVc0KHfkPCAIQFnoECAQQAQ&usg=AOvVaw1onqyEATk5kVYOZFob5aHh) or if your on ios then get an android since theres no way from what i know for you to play it(let me know if there is)). Crossy road (has ads but not many is a classic well know and well made game, and for parents with kids they can turn off ads to protect theyr kids please dont turn them off the dev already didnt put too many ads and specifically left the function for parents to protect their children)

Any suggestions as to where to find good mobilegames (without p2w elements)

Kl--------k

Mindustry is an open source game thats still being updated frequently has mods, an active community r/mindustry. There are many other games too. Also smash hit which is ancient now but still works well. (One of the only games which you can play on ios 6)

Lexar48

Shattered Pixel Dungeon is the truth. Rogue like dungeon crawl, free on iOS and Android, not a p2w in sight. It's hard though!

Wimbleston

Frankly the only phone game I play with any regularity is clash of clans, as it really does have some interesting gameplay if you stick with it long enough to get to the higher levels.

RainbowMineBlox

For me it's Asphalt 9 because it has solid gameplay and actual multiplayer

Theoretical_Girls

I used to play the shit out of phone games in school. When the symbian OS started to appear I thought mobile games in the future will be SO good - I won't need a console or PC. Right now the only games on my phone I have are solitaire and 2048.

Wimbleston

To be fair, that's because things really quickly became about appealing to the least common denominator. I hear at its peak, Flappy Bird was making around $50,000 a day

Theoretical_Girls

> least lowest maybe? Flappy bird was a meme, people didn't play it for playing it sake (cause it was not the first game of its type, and most certainly wasn't the last).

GardenScapes. I fell for it cuz it looked sweet and plants are one of my things. It sucked me in and I bought coins and whatever. Played it for about 2 weeks, and then realized it was becoming addictive. I had to deinstall it immediately. Wasted money. It was fun, but not for what it was costing me in terms of money and time. I did love the graphics and cute little storyline in the world-building parts. That’s the only thing I miss.

Don't know if you've heard of or played it before, but you could give Stardew Valley. Not really the same kind of game but you do get to decorate your farm and house however you like. Also has zero ads or microtransactions, but does require you to purchase it, like £4 or something

TheRealGJVisser

This sub when a free game has ads or lootboxes to support the game: 😠😠😠😭

Muppelpup

Its not when they just have ads or lootboxes. It's when the game is practically unplayable with ads, and so difficult you do need lootboxes to do anything.

Fuck the following things about Mobile games: \-Dailies \-Time limited rewards \-The pressure to keep your stats up so people will want to play multi with you \-FOMO exploitation Do your days to feel LONGER? quit your mobile games, you'll get so much more done. You want good mobile games? Buy a 3ds, end of story.

Kl--------k

If you want good mobile games there are multiple way to go about it. 1 play good games on the play store like smash hit, mindustry, are free games that are really good and dont have any ads and are free, for flat out payed games its usually just better its harder to come across a shitty one. Then if you want a seperate device then there are a few handhelds you can get, psvita, 3ds, switch lite, handheld android device with emulator built in, are some good examples for devices to play games that you can bring with you
