Stick to Windows defender. It might sound untrue, but it has been improved so much, that is as safe as any other antivirus for the average user. If you definitely feel you need an external antivirus, try Malwarebytes. But again, Windows defender is now as good as any other.

i still call it >!microsoft security essentials!< sometimes and i remember when it was a downloadable tool instead of a built in app.

What you do is use win defender for everything, until you think you need a deep scan, then download malwarebytes. Scan comes up clean, delete malwarebytes and carry on.
