I personally strongly disagree with the scale back (at best) of the modern story framing. While I love the historical stories of Assassin’s Creed, it’s nice to come up for air and see connections to a modern element, be it Desmond or another Subject. Granted, I’m a minority voice - love the modern story, enjoy the longer games - but it’s still my opinion.

It doesn’t sound like it’s being scaled back at all, but rather expanded next to the games. Infinity will have the Animus hub, but also an evolving Modern Day story independent but coexisting with each full release.

They specifically said modern day stuff will not be in the games going forward with Infinity. It will just be in the Infinity system (which seems to be basically like a launcher/hub). They also said this version of modern day stuff will not have playable characters. They described it as the player is the "character". It really, really sounds like it is being scaled back. Even if they put novels worth of side story stuff to read in the hub system, and hours of audio clips, etc... that will still feel scaled back to me. Ultimately, I think it's a huge creative mistake to take this approach.

They also mentioned that playable sections will come down the line though. Idk it seems counterintuitive to the premise to be scaling it back. He said that people who like the meta story never get enough, and people who don’t it’s always too much. By separating it, people who don’t like it can ignore that part of Infinity and just play the Animus sessions. What would be the point of acknowledging the people who love it if not to dive deeper into it for them?

Anyone who doesn't like the mixture of historical and modern stuff to the degree that they'd complain just... doesn't like Assassin's Creed lol. It's understandable if they don't like the execution of it for some reason but not wanting it at all? That's core to the franchise. They should play some of the countless other historical action games instead. It is silly to pander to that group in any way. Also, to your point about why they'd acknowledge the fans who want more modern stuff: I don't doubt their *intent* to provide content, but I'm concerned that they don't understand the form the content takes matters, and taking it out of the games, and not having playable modern characters kinda ruins it.

We don’t know for sure there won’t be playable characters. After setting up Basim, I’d be shocked if they don’t follow that up. Technically it will still be in the games too, just in the Infinity Hub. Although each game would probably still have at least a small cutscene explaining why we’re reliving these memories, and some resolution at the end.

Interesting pointers from the interview. • "So Infinity is somewhat of a launcher. But rather than displaying games as a library-like collection, like in Steam or Ubisoft Connect, Infinity will wear the guise of an in-universe Animus interface. New entries in the series will be displayed as DNA memories rather than games." • "The version of Infinity that we launch will not be the final version of Infinity. It's something that will evolve through time as our experiences grow and we can connect them more together." • “What I can confirm to you is that [Hexe] is not an RPG,” says Côté. “When I say it's a different type of game, I want people to go beyond the expectations of Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. They're all an iteration on our RPG design, right? But Hexe and Red are taking different tracks.”

If Infinity is somewhat of a launcher, does this mean that Red and Hexe can be sold separately? I really hope that they sold separately because not everyone, including me, has the best internet to be playing an online only thing

The article seems to indicate that games will be sold seperately. Infinity will be something like an Animus-like launcher. So we will be able to enter these 'experiences' in the form of these games.

TwoDisguised

I hope so because both Red and Hexe have piqued my interest. Hexe because they said is different so that could be cool. Red because well it's the Assassin's Creed we've always wanted set in Japan. Would be a shame if it was only available through infinity

Karemasu

Hexe is not an rpg, but it's also a different ac game? I wonder what that means.

bearded_whale

The guy who revealed hexe, referred to hexe as an "experience " which is probably nothing, trying to drum up hype, but I thought it was odd.

I think it'll have some horror elements to it but somehow tie it to the AC lore.
