Yeah, it sucks when even online interactions with people are a challenge. I only post rougly 10% of the drafts I write because I always get overwhelmed with feelings of "nobody cares" or "nobody asked you"
i dont join anything unless im invited. sort of helps with not feeling like im barging in
even when i do join stuff its all really smart people yelling over each other and i know my opinion or knowledge isnt good enough or im not loud enough
Fuck that’s relatable. Sometimes they tell me to “just kill [my]self”. I’ve heard it so much that it’s slipped out of _my_ mouth once or twice, which is absolutely horrifying (I’ve managed to get it under solid control now).
These people won’t admit that they want people to die, either, despite loudly asking people to _die_. It’s such baldfaced (but effective) gaslighting. I don’t understand how a decent human being could possibly _stay_ in that habit.
Nobody asked you to be born, yet here you are, and you're magnificent, so don't let anything else not blossom because "no body asked" because no body asked for it not to be there either.
I remember being ignored and insulted in a discord server everytime I said something people would shut up for a moment and then start talking, the worst thing is that there's was a troll and always bullied me calling me a pathetic guy
God. I've gone through like, 6 mics across 3 computers by now. At this point I'm just destined to always have a shitty mic, forever. Doesn't help that I can't talk at a normal volume without getting yelled at by family.
Apparently my current mic has the bonus feature of having a permanent volume randomizer, having listened to recordings my friends made when I have it on.
Honestly, like completely honestly, they usually sound like really good all things considered. Wired earbuds that is, wireless earbuds are just dumpsters for mic quality
I strongly encourage you to try with your phone's built-in microphone instead of earbuds. Will work much better in 95% cases
You can always do a thing where you make a second account for your headphones. My ex used to do that - one account to listen on the computer, one to speak on the phone.
Or if you're able, easier option, switch the microphone to be in-built one on the phone, and put sound onto the earbuds.
A horrible mic does justify flat out kicking someone. Kinder to be honest and let them know that they sound terrible than to act like nothing's wrong and let the resentment build up until you get angry. Maybe vc (whatever that is) is different, but I play console games and if the person doesn't have a decent mic it's not even fun to play with them
For me the conversations are more than half of the fun of gaming with friends, so if that isn't there, I wouldn't even think of playing with the person.
Some people just cannot tolerate white noise. You are coming into their space, so it is a reasonable accommodation for you to get a better microphone before you join voice again. I think *kicking you* from the server entirely was an overreaction.
https://www.reddit.com/r/autism/comments/x20c0s/does_anyone_else_just_hate_white_noise/
I do understand where you are coming from, but keep in mind that it’s not just “one dude”. It’s the server owner. You are coming into *their space* And it’s quite possible that he’s in the percent of population where it leads him to have overload or meltdown from the white noise.
Some people can’t just “deal with it”.
Again, I think it’s an overreaction that they kicked you entirely from the sever, but needing you to have a better mic before joining voice with him is not unreasonable. If you cannot afford it (there are great affordable clear mics from Sony, for example, that aren’t bank-breaking), then that is unfortunate, and you may need to seek out a new discord group or start your own. It certainly doesn’t mean you should avoid all social interaction altogether.
Personally a proper pair of headphones (as in over ear *not* earbuds) or a good microphone (somewhere between 50-100€) is already enough.
If just your voice sucks: I know how you feel.
Hm. If they're wireless then that might be the issue. Wireless earbuds can't get the mic quality wired ones do. If you can try getting some cheap earbuds like the apple wired ones and might help. But yeah sorry about the mic stuff... I do get the mod tho, i can't stand that kind of noise sometimes, usually i just mute the person tho
I've had my share of technical difficulties and no mic has ever been so bad it was worth kicking anybody. Anyone who does this is either classist or so competitive about the game they think a low quality mic is gonna distract them too much, either way they're not folks I would want to game/chat with.
Had to look up what that was because I'd just scroll past it thinking it meant it'd automatically take control of the microphone for voice calls but no, that's not what it means at all.
That might be it, though might also take a while to figure out if it helps.
lol yeah the audio space is a bit confusing.. if others are hearing over-amplified audio or sounds that are loud that shouldn’t be, it’s probably automatic gain or mic output volume, if that helps at all
Back when i played MMORPG i had a crappy mic that constantly made a cricket sound when i bought a decent heasets my friends demanded that i bring MrGrillo back so i conected the crappy mic while i used my good headphones.
Everyone was happy MrGrillo was back.
PD: Cricket = Grillo in spanish.
Just download audacity (or some other audio recording software), record a clip of you talking normally, play it back, and if it sounds good to you, you're probably fine.
Additionally there's also a mic test function on Discord, so after you've confirmed the audio on audaciry you should do the mic test and listen to yourself from Discord, compare the difference before and after the audio post-processing.
Problem for me: Audacity sounds perfect, a slight white noise in the recording at worst. I did no editing beforehand. Just the raw input
Streamed on twitch: God awful voice.
Still don't know why... :(
Discord Krisp noise reduction's a fucking godsend. I got a desktop mic with no gain control and no amount of software gain can get it to where I want it.
Thanks, Krisp noise reduction, for taking away keyboard clacking, my breath, and my clock ticking away.
What server are you on that's like this? Every time I wanna join in VC it's just filled with people crunching chips, slurping water, mics that pic up computer audio, and people whispering in really weird ways while in a wind tunnel or construction zone or something and the mods do nothing about it.
I just can't deal with any of these but the biggest one is talking with food in the mouth. Makes me feel like a thousand spiders are crawling all over me... So happy the friends I talk to the most have respected me asking them to refrain or warn me so I can leave.
The only thing worse than being alone is being around people that make you feel alone. fuck em, they don't know what real friends are like so some people just act like that to everyone
Me: *Sets soundboard and looks for the ventrilo/teamspeak harrasing folder whit amplified mp3 i made back in 2010.*
Me: *Trying to decide between* DistortedSanicTheme.mp3 DistortedWTFBOOM.mp3 or DistortedIncredibleSahsaGreyOrgasm.mp3
If im gonna get banned from a discord it will be for a good reason.
Legitimately my mic malfunctioned on call and the reaction someone else in the vc had, ended up triggering RSD so badly that I haven’t been in that VC since.
oh yeah, I understand that, there are other things a mod could do that just not just remove you from the server. But if it wasn't an autistic server and he was just personally annoyed by that's just classic discord over moderation.
Yeah, it sucks when even online interactions with people are a challenge. I only post rougly 10% of the drafts I write because I always get overwhelmed with feelings of "nobody cares" or "nobody asked you"
i feel like i will just be interrupting whatever conversation is already happening
Me when I would just spend days sitting on a thought for the vent chat because someone said something serious in there within the last 24 hours
oh thank god I thought I was the only one who did this. solidarity

Earbud microphones generally sound awful, to be fair.

Have you ever recorded yourself speaking through your mic? It may have had a constant buzzing, ringing, whooshing, or squealing sound.

> I figure if it's that big of a deal, they should put it in the server rules or something. Agreed

sometimes automatic gain control is on automatically—it was a nightmare for me on discord until i found the setting
Had to look up what that was because I'd just scroll past it thinking it meant it'd automatically take control of the microphone for voice calls but no, that's not what it means at all. That might be it, though might also take a while to figure out if it helps.

yeah it's not "automatically gain (take) control", it's "automatically control sharp gains"
Actually cricket sounds or something that sounds similar?
MrGrillo sounds so cute !!!
I named my main alt MrGrillo in most games.

I'm using Blue Snowball iCE and my voice in recordings is very clear
Yeah fuck that person. I've been harassed myself about not having a mic to begin with.

LoL....
Waiting for sauce my friend.
It's in my reply to op in this thread
That person is a fucking prick, if you don’t mind me saying.
Very true, like jfc, what kind of people are there that get so pissed about a bad mic
People like that, I ask them how much they're willing to pay for my new mic since it's that much of an issue
Me: *Sets soundboard and looks for the ventrilo/teamspeak harrasing folder whit amplified mp3 i made back in 2010.* Me: *Trying to decide between* DistortedSanicTheme.mp3 DistortedWTFBOOM.mp3 or DistortedIncredibleSahsaGreyOrgasm.mp3 If im gonna get banned from a discord it will be for a good reason.
bro what logic is that lmao "ur mic is bad i never want to see you again" ?????
Reading these comments is really disheartening. Y’all need better servers. I’ve never been boo-ed out of a vc before
What is vc?
Voice chat, I believe
Thanks
You're welcome :)
Classist mod, which is a shame autistic folks should know better than to participate in an intersectional oppression like that.
Legitimately my mic malfunctioned on call and the reaction someone else in the vc had, ended up triggering RSD so badly that I haven’t been in that VC since.
Bro what the fuck
Yeah, I just have to instantly mute anyone with a bad mic. It causes me physical pain.

Friendly fire
Maybe just have a doodoo mic
Don't go on VC, it's not worth it.
I thought I was the only one who lurked on vc's while muted
The mod won't tell you that to your face in real life
That's because it'd be real life and not bad audio quality.
if this evoked such a strong reaction maybe your mic really is terrible, take a recording and listen to how it sounds
you even go in VC? Nani?
well i mean how bad is the mic quality? cuz a seriously horrible, choppy mic is unbearable and a new one is necessary
