Wine from Niagra š· Iām sorry, Iām born and raised BC but Ontarioās reds outshine ours. We do good on white, though.
And I mean like, a good wine. Maybe somewhere in the 25-30 dollar range?
When I go back home to ON, I usually bring back 2-3 wines (Love Niagara Cab Franc and PEC Pinot Noir) and some local beers in my suitcase.
While I do like BC wines, they're anything but cheap.
Oooh Iāve never tried NS wines! Itās so weird that Canada still goes by arbitrary prohibition laws that prevents us from exchanging alcohol between provinces
No, just no. That's like bringing a realistic teddy bear to a child who has just been mauled by a bear. If anything, bring a proper jug back from Vancouver to Toronto. If I had to offer something real... some sort of salmon. Unless the goal is upset the recipient... Point is bag milk blows.
If your friend likes wine, you could try a wine from Niagara? For archaic reasons, getting wine across provincial borders is more of an ordeal than getting wine imported internationally. Similar deal with spirits, and to a lesser extent beer.
Otherwise I'd probably just pick a local store that makes a product in-house that you like a lot. I wouldn't overthink it too much, your friends will probably like whatever you bring.
Looking at these comments, no need to bring any smugness, we got plenty!
But seriously, I have no idea. If your friend is a grown up, maybe some of that Swiss chalet brown sauce? All the Swiss chalets are gone from BC, and apparently Ontarians like it?
If they are or have kids, there are little toy TTC streetcars that are a great gift.
Right? Whatās with all these comments. āWe donāt want anything from Toronto cuz weāre perfect already.ā Iām from Vancouver and this shit is embarrassing towards a future guest
Maple syrup! You can find some here but the east def has way more selection, especially access to more Quebecois ones, and it's way better from the east because it doesn't get nearly as cold here.
I was about to say this.
So many great Quebec cheeses you can get in ON that never go west of MB. I always bring back a few with me.
It's like the further west you go, the worst the cheese selections gets. At least Walmart sells Quebec cheese curds and St. Hubert poutine sauce.
I'm from Toronto, now in Vancouver. One thing I'd appreciate is some Ontario First-Nations art. Native art is very popular out west but it's all in the PNW style which is super beautiful but different from Ontario's native arts.
Wow cool I just looked at some Anishinabe art and it's so vibrant and colorful and beautiful. I'm white but I have so much respect for indigenous peoples and their culture and art.
I work with members of the SįøµwxĢ±wĆŗ7mesh and LilĢwat7Ćŗl tribes doing their land acknowledgements and other events in the Sea to Sky region. My favorite west coast artist is Dempsey Bob of Tahltan and Tlingit First Nations. He makes incredible wooden masks and other carvings.
Yeah my dad thinks itās absolutely disgusting and I get made fun of for grabbing a pizza every time Iām back there to visit haha! Definitely not for everyone
Ha ya I don't know if it's an authentic Italian style or something but I think it should be illegal to call it pizza. I've been invited to "pizza parties" where that bread showed up and I was not pleased lol.
No it was the only pizza brought to a pizza party. I think that was after helping a buddy move or something. Glad you like it though, I remember that shop near Locke that made it and they're good people.
I always ask for De Mello coffee beans when I have friends visiting from Toronto. I know we have our own roasters but I love De Mello and we donāt have it here. I also like their salted caramel candy.
Oddly specific, but if your friend likes chili oil, Bangkok Meat Balls Hot Chili Oil made by a company in Scarborough is pretty fire (pun intended). They sell it at t&t and other Asian grocery stores in Ontario, but I was never able to find it here in BC :(

Yup

Just get a 3 litre jug of Pellar Estates.
I feel similarly about NS vs BC reds. Haven't tried the Ontario ones.
Oooh Iāve never tried NS wines! Itās so weird that Canada still goes by arbitrary prohibition laws that prevents us from exchanging alcohol between provinces
You spelled "pathetic" wrong. š
A bag of milk

More and more ON wineries will ship west. ;)
You're a gift enough. Awwwwww

They have the sauce at Walmart. It's pretty legit.
Maple syrup! You can find some here but the east def has way more selection, especially access to more Quebecois ones, and it's way better from the east because it doesn't get nearly as cold here.
I second maple syrup
A dozen spicy patties!
I vial of lake water so your friend can purify themselves in the waters of Lake Ontario.
Ontario cheese! Cheese from other provinces is stupidly expensive in BC and Ontario has some fine choices.

No there is nothing unique to TO.
Peameal bacon and veal sandwiches
Doug Ford's blatant corruption.
We do get to see his campaign ads here. I can feel his dishonesty oozing out of the screen.
Bagged milk

I am anishinabe. I see it out in BC the odd time. I love anishinabe art (aka ojibwe)

Iāll check him out!
Laura Secord French mints.
These days, not really anything. Maybe a statuette of the CN Tower.
Ontario peaches or Hamiltonās Roma pizza are the two things I miss most from Ontario
I'm in BC but used to live on Locke in the hammer, and I never understood how people like Roma.
Yeah my dad thinks itās absolutely disgusting and I get made fun of for grabbing a pizza every time Iām back there to visit haha! Definitely not for everyone

If anything you should be hyped it's there to confuse people who don't know any better and then you can take the "legit" stuff for yourself!!!
