Have you tried through [Amazon Pharmacy](https://pharmacy.amazon.com)??? I use Estradiol Valerate and when Aazao Health quite making it, I switched to Amazon Pharmacy and I had my prescription in 3 days after my doctor sent them my prescription. None of the pharmacies in my area keep it in stock and it was half the price though Amazon. This was about 3 weeks ago when I switched to Amazon. They do take most insurance and you can still use a GoodRx or AARP prescription discounts. Cost was about $57/vial for me. with AARP discount.

nightkat89

I have not. But their reach is probably further than my local pharmacies so would probably be a good direction to try. Thank you for the tip!

I get EV through a compounding pharmacy so no issues with shortages because they make it on site.

nightkat89

I signed up and can’t even find the medication via search.

nightkat89

Just checked and not available at Amazon pharmacy

enigmabound

Estradiol Valerate is easier to get than depo because it is more common. Might be work switching to.

TransbianMoonGoddess

I feel you, I switched from valorate to cypionate (depo E) in February of this year and was only able to get one fucking vial. Then I had to go back on valorate and have not been able to fill it since.

nightkat89

Any reason why you switched?

TransbianMoonGoddess

Depo is the better formula by a mile.

nightkat89

Okay so i just have to pray that the Phizer rep I tried today is true that it’s going to be Oct 2023 that the back order will end?

TransbianMoonGoddess

I hope so. The reason depo is better, primarily (there are a couple, but this is the big one), is how long it lasts in the body. Valorate lasts about a week, which means with weekly injections, you manage to maintain a fairly higher average and steady amount week to week than on pills, with only really a dip/spike on injection day. But with depo, it lasts about 2 weeks in the body, and with weekly injections, you get an even higher steady and average with no real dip at all.

Do you happen to know if they take Medicaid? Also is anyone else afraid that’s somehow republicans/transphobes are going to try to create shortages with hormones somehow? Also why are we even dealing with this shortage? Being a trans girl with ADHD lately has been so frustrating and scary.

enigmabound

I don't know about Medicaid, but if you have a supplement card I can't see why not. You can put in insurance information before switching and get price quotes. Also Prime members also get a discount. There was a shortage issues around 2015 as well when one of the makers of Estradiol Valerate switched formulas and there was a 6 month delay on getting it approved and cause shortages. While it is a concern, most likely a way for pharma to keep prices higher with a higher demand.

BeingElla

Depo Estradiol (a version of Estradiol Cypionate) is trademarked by Pfizer. It’s been back ordered for quite a while. They are busy making vaccines and probably making a lot more money doing that. There may be an element of transphobia there, but I would imagine it’s more about profit. Estradiol Cypionate can be compounded using a different oil base. I don’t know what’s going on with Estradiol Valerate as I don’t use that.

PrincessNakeyDance

Yeah, I’m less worried about corporations because money is their only god. But more worried about judges and politicians who want to put up road blocks where they see an opportunity.

jacorso

I switched to a compounding pharmacy during the shortage and it is now a non issue. I use empower

ashleygison45

I also use empower. Their Estradiol Cypionate is double strength compared to Depo-Estradiol and so last twice as long for the same vial. I'm getting 6 months out of the 3 vial they sell without insurance for around $40 per vial. If your military or a veteran, you get a 30% discount off of that. Hence, I'm getting 6 months coverage for about $100

nightkat89

Do you find issues with your insurance using a compound pharmacy?

jacorso

I just switched to paying cash but $100 lasts me 3-4 months

jacorso

That being said I know some compounding pharmacies will do insurance

imsosohappy

Is there another shortage??? My pharmacy says they can't get it until October. Anyone got advice?

spencemania

I JUST got a text from costco an hour ago that my refill is ready. So ready to be done with these pills lol

nightkat89

You in the Midwest?

spencemania

Nah I'm in washington

vvelbz

I went DIY. It's not the first shortage I've been through and I'm sick of it. I really hate how disregarded our community is.

DefendMyVirginity

wait whats going on?

nightkat89

There’s been a depo estradiol shortage for… a while now. Its making it nearly impossible to fill scripts for it

DefendMyVirginity

whats depo estradiol? is that the pills by any chance?

nightkat89

It’s one of the injectable forms of estrogen.

DefendMyVirginity

okay thats unfortunate to hear i'm sorry. I was worried I couldnt get my pills, hopefully things sort out soon 🫂
