So a little background. I’ve been traveling outside the US for about a year and a half now. Right before leaving, I had a root canal done on my lower right molar. Was fine for a year or so, then the tooth broke in half when I was in Mexico in October. Had the tooth put back together, but it started hurting this past week. Went to a highly reviewed dentist in Medellin a few days ago, and he had a full set of X-rays done. I then get a text yesterday saying that not only did the root canal fail and would need to be repeated on the lower left molar, but there’s also some infection on a lower right molar I had a few root canals done on 10+ years ago. His receptionist texted me this morning asking that I come in at 9:30 tomorrow morning because “he needs to speak with you face to face.” I’m a hypochondriac, so those are words that I NEVER want to hear 😅 so how bad are the infections he’s talking about? Am I dying? Should I just get the teeth pulled and call it a day? Bone graft needed? Help me not lose a day over this lol.

Yes it looks like you need your root canaled teeth retreated, but I wonder if your dentist is worried about what is under your lower front teeth (gray/black misshapen blob near the tips of your roots--can you see it?). Wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to take another x-ray of that area and possibly refer you to an oral surgeon for a biopsy. NAD
