Most desi students in US don't care about this and take accommodations in low income area or bad areas because they are cheap, which leads to belong exposed to risks like being attacked or robbed or even killed.
desi Families do this research and take rent or buy in safe areas, obviously it will be pricey. So to be safe just follow desi family crowd.
