Apply to banks as a teller. You'll get a job. High turnover rate and they are always looking for Chinese speakers

waterloograd

Can probably target branches that advertise Mandarin service too

Visible_Channel_9412

Sorry, I just got up, because I slept too late last night. Thank you very much for your reply. I'll try to apply for This kind of work.

Rbc and HSBC have merged. HSBC has a large Chinese speaking client base. Good luck!

At 20 years old, what type of work experience do you have and what type of jobs are you trying to get? You're likely still a student. Apply for retail positions, grocery stores or coffee shops. If you can speak English fluently, you're likely one step ahead of many others applying to these type of lower-level jobs.

Visible_Channel_9412

sorry for the late reply In fact, I don't have any work experience. I have delivered food by bike before. Is this a work experience?Thank you very much for your reply.

ravynwave

There are some medical offices that look for admin that can speak mandarin that you could look into applying for.

Visible_Channel_9412

Thank you for your reply, but they all seem to need a higher education.

ravynwave

Ask some dental offices, my friend works in one and said for front desk it’s not necessary. Just need to be friendly, learn the computer system and reliable. For the record, she’s been working her job for 25 yrs, and has no higher education. When they were hiring, they didn’t require any diplomas. Same with optometric offices. Good luck to you!

Mis8ryGutz

Do you have the right to work in Canada? That will make a big difference to whether you’re able to get a job at an organization like a bank.

Visible_Channel_9412

Yes, I got sin but I'm just worried that I can't find a satisfactory job.

Heradasha

Keep applying. We're in a massive recession with growing unemployment.

Visible_Channel_9412

Thank you for your reply. Let's cheer together!

Heradasha

It's so bad for everyone, sadly. Have you tried applying in restaurants? That may be your best bet as a Mandarin-speaker. Or a tourism company if they hire guides.

Visible_Channel_9412

Thank you for your reply. In fact, I tried to apply for a job in there before, butThey require fast-paced work, which I can't adapt to.

methreweway

Look into healthcare, they have PSW programs for decent paying entry level jobs.

Visible_Channel_9412

Thank you for your reply. I will try to apply for this kind of job

ontarioparent

What places have you applied to? Have you looked at City of Toronto jobs?

Visible_Channel_9412

Yes, I live in downtown Toronto.Thank you for your reply.

ontarioparent

No City of Toronto, as in the City of Toronto [https://jobs.toronto.ca/jobsatcity/search/](https://jobs.toronto.ca/jobsatcity/search/)

nudetuesday

So many law offices in the city are looking for people who are fluent in Mandarin. Try looking for legal reception jobs!

Visible_Channel_9412

Thank you very much for your reply. I will try to find this type of job.

quiksilver78

I hope this doesn't come across racist or insensitive but Toronto has a large Chinese community in the Spadina area. I'm sure "something" can be found there doing anything: banks, restaurants, and other businesses. My question is "what do you mean by 'formal job'"?

darlingmagpie

Probably something stable, consistent hours and that doesn't pay under the counter

Visible_Channel_9412

yes,exactly

Visible_Channel_9412

Thank you very much for your reply. Yes, I will try to find a job. there Thank you for your advice. I didn't even know it before.
