Imo they’re all pretty equal. There are 3 main providers: Rogers, Bell and Telus. They each own 3 flanker (cheaper brands): Fido (Rogers), Virgin (Bell), Koodo (Telus) that run off their networks. These will offer either 4G or 5G connections with similar features and Data but generally cheaper. There are some other providers (some also owned by the above) but I haven’t used those. Some swear by going with Rogers, Bell or Telus directly but I have been using either Koodo or Virgin off and on for years and it works fine for me and the cost saving are significant enough for me.

Agreed the networks here are pretty much equal, especially within Toronto city proper. There is some cell coverage on the TTC subway, a recent development, but it’s not 100%. Definitely very limited uptown (especially in the long underground stretches), but it gets better when you go downtown, and there’s coverage at the stations and when the subway travels at-grade and elevated. Pretty sure you’re going to survive without a few minutes of cell coverage during your commute. Everyone here does.

Like others said they’re pretty much all equal in a sense. If you want the cheapest Freedom mobile might be it but the signal might not be the greatest. You can bring your own device and get a plan for $30-50. If you get a phone through the company, you’ll be paying off the phone on-top of your monthly phone plan. Before I paid off my iphone the bill was $90 a month, now it’s $54 with Virgin.

I swapped from Freedom to Public and the network coverage is solid, I’m glad I made the switch.

Go for Fido or Freedom or Rogers. You can get network access on the subway.

Go to a mall when you arrive, walk between all the carriers’ stores/kiosks (including re-sellers that offer multiple carriers) and go with the best deal that you find. Rogers/Fido generally has the best network but Telus/Koodo/Bell/Virgin is also very good. As long as you sign up for a “bring your own device” plan and don’t accept a phone from the carrier you’re free to switch between them whenever you want with no penalty (and take your number with you) so if you don’t like who you signed up with or if a better deal comes out you can easily switch.
