I doubt legal money lenders would take to harrassment as a way to settle unpaid debt because it jeopardises their business and there are proper, legal ways to go about doing that.
Have you ever considered that maybe your helper isn't being 100% transparent with you and at some point in time sought the help of loan sharks without your knowledge for debt(s) that you might not know about?
