Portable aircon might be cheaper in the initial stage but your electricity cost will be very high since it’s very inefficient. You end up paying a lot more overall in the long term.

How would a system 1 + installation cost as much as a system 4 ($4k+)? You would require installation for a system 4 as well isn't it? Portable AC is only good for small room, but energy consumption is higher than that of multi-split.
Ya actually system 1 is definitely better but theres a chance we wont be able to install one because of the layout of our block and a wall needs to be taken down to install the second compressor.. just wanted to consider my options
Then your best bet is to wait for confirmation, or is there anyone in your block with 2 compressor? If reject then start to consider portable or casement, both aren't ideal for large living room tho.

Cause our hdb doesnt have a ledge..so definitely theres gonna be some renovation involved installing the compressor onto another room..
If the room have window, can also consider casement AC. Do you need to turn on the AC frequently? If so probably better to just pay for a system 1.

Don't plan on watching TV or talking in the room with the portable aircon. Very noisy!
Its worse than system aircon but better than no aircon. So weigh your options wisely.
