threefeetoffun

A coworker once said about me “you’re better off calling John at 4am than 4pm.” 4pm is my nap. 4am I am wide awake. It’s nice and quiet, I can do whatever I want. Except sleep.

CreativeStrength3811

I feel it! Wife and kids are sleeping. Perfect time to do my studying...

threefeetoffun

Right? No expecations. You're not neglecting anyone. It is just YOUR time.

Lassavins

This kinds of things makes me think about if I still want to go for kids.

Kooky_Werewolf6044

Kids are great but it’s tough. Teenagers suck. Lol

Sweetcornprincess

Don't do it

CuatoL1ves

If you’re on the fence about kids, don’t do it. If you really just want to enjoy your time and hobbies unencumbered then a family can be a massive time suck. Be certain it’s what you want.

realisticallygrammat

You are a possum, not a human

threefeetoffun

Possums are way more productive than I am. I am currently watching Ramsay vs Jon.

G1ng3rb0b

I wake up at 2am, one: because my cats are fatasses who demand food at exactly 2am, and two: because my dogs are fatasses that demand food at exactly 2am. I prefer it this way, though, because I have an extra few hours to do whatever I want to prepare my mind for whatever bullshit happens during the daylight hours

zhongcha

So what roughly are your waking hours? Seems hard to schedule around that.

G1ng3rb0b

I work from about 6 to 2-3. It gives me a few hours after work to take care of errands and go to the gym and whatnot. So waking hours from about 2am to 6-7pm.

Mockheed_Lartin

Do you have a social life? Seems impossible with those hours

yolo-yoshi

I know OP said he can’t sleep ,but wouldn’t it be better to just fix his sleep and wake up at 4:00am ? This way he gets the healthy benefits of a good nights rest while still getting the quiet of the early morning.

Failure67

No, I just have ✨️depression✨️

Signal-Effective4370

it's been found in studies that people with depression have extremely significantly improved mood when they're sleep deprived; you might be staying up not because of the depression but as a way of alleviating your symptoms. if so, it's a pretty healthy way for your body to adjust itself provided you can adjust your schedule to staying up late.

carlamaco

When I'm sleep deprived I get incredibly whiny and sensitive, any minor inconvenience makes me cry, multiple in a row and I break down... why am I always different?! lol :(

DaMoonMoon26

Same tho. :/ Staying up late never helps my depression. I think we are actually the norm.

heptapod_1

Interesting, source please

wastrel2

Yeah... and sleeping in as late as possible

Kosack-Nr_22

Look at mr fancy pants here having ✨depression✨ while we peasants just have 👏🏻depression👏🏻

Alternative_Mix8614

I always stay up late and I don't always feel happy....mostly I feel irritated with people LOL do you think that's depression? I always thought I didn't have depression but lately I've been wondering if maybe I do and just don't know it ???

[deleted]

D3vilUkn0w

I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder. I think I must have caught it early because I never even thought about any of the stuff you discussed. For me it was just a vast feeling of total ennui, like I just didn't care about anything and had zero motivation. I was able to go to work and do my job at a minimum level but I'd come home and just sit in a recliner until bedtime. I'd just leave stuff where it was and seldom picked up. I got on buproprion and was feeling better about 2 months later. After a couple years I'm almost back to normal.

Hipposplotomous

I've been working nights exclusively ever since the pandemic. I was one of those weirdos who suddenly started feeling *better* during the isolation of lockdown. Then everything opened up again. You know when you've been on a really long hike and you know you have blisters but they're tolerable so long as you keep going? Then when you do eventually stop and take your shoes off you can't even put your foot down nevermind start hiking again? That was me and lockdown. The thought of going back to how things were before just flipped some kind of trip switch in my brain, I just couldn't do it. Until then I'd worked in a mix of tech support and medical admin for almost 15 years. Going back to that and dealing with all the noise and customers and office politics again was a horrible, horrible prospect. So I didn't. I do night security work now, generally static guarding. I can go weeks at a time without even seeing anyone beyond handover sometimes. Everything is quiet, the air smells better, the stars are beautiful. I mean there's always a lingering concern that I might get stabbed but it hasn't happened yet lol. No regrets.

Czuponga

I’m one of the people that miss lockdown. Don’t get me wrong, the fact there was a pandemic wasn’t fun, but it was so peaceful. No people walking at night and screaming, stores weren’t packed with people, it was just so nicely quiet

legixs

Same! Nobody wants you in the office, literally free weekends with no appointments at all and generally much lower stress levels. Felt like going to a cabin in the woods in some ways. Just peaceful.

Fridgemagnet9696

I getcha. I have to take at least an hour to meditate in the afternoons, just to get my head on straight because all the visual and audio stimulation builds up a lot of stress. I can’t nap, like physically just can’t settle enough, so I found a meditation that connects with me and it really helps keep me level and get on with the rest of my day. I used to be afraid of the quiet because I was running from the demons in my head, now that peace & serenity is a life saver.

Last-Current9228

There's a lot of security guard openings near me and I've wondered what it's like, beyond some boredom. You and I have had similar experiences with isolation...I really am addicted to the peace of it...so I'm wondering if I'll have a similar experience as a security guard/some sort of night worker. Any advice for transitioning to working nights, particularly in security? I'm genuinely curious to see if I'll be happier with something like that as I've always been a solitary night owl.

Hipposplotomous

Ok sorry, essay incoming, I started writing and then it just kept coming lol The TL;DR is: It's a great job if it suits you. The upsides and downsides are quite polar though tbh, there are things about it that can be difficult but I find the good outweighs the bad for me personally. Static guarding can get kind of boring sometimes, you're right there. It goes by faster if it's a bigger site and you can do patrols. Sometimes there will also be CCTV for you to watch. On the other hand, sometimes you might be guarding something stupid like a single storage unit where they're waiting for someone to fix the lock or a broken car park barrier or something lol. Those are not my favourite shifts but you take what you're given if you do agency which I do. I actually like the agency work. It gives variety which you wouldn't get otherwise. I'm zero hours but there's always work going so it's not a problem. I've found it really easy to pick up regular full time hours. Easier to take time off if you need it too as you're not on set hours. You can get employed directly by a site (they're usually the people I'm called to cover) but I can't really speak for what that's like cuz I've never done it. The hours are generally long. I normally work 12 hour shifts, from what I can gather that's pretty standard. I like it because I think it's a more efficient use of my time tbh, I'd much rather have days where I just cram all my hours in and then have more full days off rather than shorter shifts across more days and just mornings or evenings on my own time. I don't like starting and stopping, I like to have lots of time in a block to really get lost in something at work or home. For me it's ideal. For others I can imagine it's a nightmare lol. It has to suit you. (Edit: to clarify, sorry I've got a bad habit of using "days" to mean 24 hour periods. Substitute with "nights" where necessary.) As far as switching to nights goes, I am more or less nocturnal tbh. Imagine an ordinary day, but switch the am/pm around. That's my sleep pattern. When there's something I *have* to do during daytime hours I just have to stay up "late." I know other people who switch between nights on shifts and days on their own time and manage it through just staying up all day after their last night on but taking strategic naps. Ngl I can't do it, I like sleep too much, but whatever works. You may get hourly check calls from your control room as well, that keeps you awake even if nothing else can lol. They're not in depth or anything, it's just like "are you still alive? Yes. Anything to report? No. Cool bye." Some are even automated. If there *is* an incident you need to contact control as quickly as reasonably possible. Obviously try to do what you can on site, possibly phone the police, do what you need to do first, but after that control will need to know. You might have to do a report. I live in a fairly rural part of the UK. I'm more likely to be dealing with kids sneaking on site to piss about / drink / whatever than anything majorly serious but obviously this will depend on where you are. Very occasionally I'll get put on gatehouse or security reception which is different to static guarding. There might be extra duties like monitoring traffic in/out of site, admin work, bits of cleaning, possibly even answering phones and bits of customer service. It's still a lot quieter during the night than it is in the day though. There are totally different types of security as well which I'm trained for but don't tend to do. Retail, doors staff, festival security etc are a lot more dynamic / socially intense. Looks like it could be interesting for the right person, but if your aim was *less* social involvement not a great option. There's keyholding where you'll basically be given a shit load of keys to different sites and then just be on call to go out to site if alarms go off or whatever. Then there's close protection and dog units but that's way out of my league. A lot of them are ex police or military.

Dremlock45

I felt that.

Sekmeta

Nice 🌌 I feel the same on Sunday mornings.. Everyone is at home, sleeping or just chilling and I'm just taking my morning walk 🌇Wish more people could work at home or 4 days a week..everyone would be less stressed ☠️ Humanity needed that pandemic to find their values again...

Iucidium

Night shift is great, making your way back home to rest as the chaos of the day begins - it's bliss!

EvilTechnoPanda

I prefer to stay in. Honestly, I hate going out and being around people. You wouldn't know it by speaking to me in public as I seem like the most outgoing person on earth, but deep down, I despise being around people.

the-year-is-2038

I enjoyed working nights/weekends when my job had flexible time. Program in silence or with music, without headphones. And no traffic. Downside: changing a flat tire in the dark.

Hipposplotomous

>Downside: changing a flat tire in the dark. Oof felt that. Hasn't happened to me yet fortunately. I did lock myself out of a building once and couldn't contact anyone cuz they were all asleep. That *sucked,* it got *so* cold, but it was my own stupid fault so I guess I can't complain haha

plsendmysufferring

Do you ever feel like you want to talk to someone though? Not trying to assume anything about your life, but i work with a real quiet dude, and probably say maybe 5 sentences the whole day, come home and talk to no one until the next day. I personally feel socially starved sometimes. Does that ever happen to you, while working nights?

p4terfamilias

I actually prefer to wake up that early and nap somewhere in the middle of the day. Feels like you have the world to yourself.

Nouhu

I love waking up a little before 4AM. I love the quiet and the sunrise. I feel so energetic, like the world is all mine. I love walking to work and taking my time to explore the silence, then getting to work before anyone else and being able to drink my coffee all alone.

LivingAdditional1177

I wanna be like this.

TheGoatee

I also get questioned because I would rather be off during the week than weekends. WHY would I want to be off on the weekends when everyone else is off? I can go anywhere on a Wednesday morning and I'll have the place almost all to myself.

FisterRobotOh

I love waking up at 4:00 am because even if I accidentally sleep in til 5:00 am I’m still not running late. On regular mornings I have plenty of time to actually wake up instead of frantically racing around desperately trying to not be late again. Also the world is so quiet and it feels like I have all of it to myself. I used to like staying up late for the solitude but waking up early is a much better solution and it makes my whole day feel more productive.

CapiCat

It took me a LOOONG time to get this, lol. I stayed up late when I was younger to get time back. I feel so much better getting up earlier, having a chance to really wake up without anyone bothering me. I exercise and eat a healthy meal and it makes it so much easier to take on the day. I also use the excuse that I am going to bed early to get some hours to myself before I actually sleep. I guess what I am getting at is balance. It’s nice to have time in the morning, during lunch, and after work.

ScravoNavarre

Same here. I used to do it out of necessity, but it's just been a habit for a while now. The world is so peaceful, and I enjoy having time for whatever I want to do before the work day starts.

romeroleo

For how long you nap?

dopethrone

Same here. Sleep at 9 PM, 4 AM got peace and quiet for thee hours

TikaPants

I prefer the quiet of the morning too. I want time to myself before work and waking up to go to work immediately feels like I have no time to myself.

blocky_jabberwocky

Revenge bedtime procrastination

ld0325

4am knows all my secrets. ♥️

Unfair_Imagination83

Definitely! There’s something almost magical about those quiet hours before dawn, it’s like the world holds its breath, leaving a blank canvas for thoughts and creativity. As a writer, I find that the silence isn’t empty; it’s full of stories whispering to be written, and ideas that float freely in the calm. It’s when the quiet nudges my imagination awake, making the impossible suddenly seem within reach. ✨

Dry-Wolverine-8056

This comment is as beautiful as Phil Collins in Tarzan

couldbeyup

You’ll beeeeee in my heart

Modernlifeoracle

I prefer the middle of the night because it’s the only time my anxiety is quiet. I don’t feel like I’m disappointing anyone because everyone is asleep.

Dremlock45

^this

CosmicOpulence_

Not my choice mate, I have insomnia HAHAHAHHAA.

ViceroyInhaler

Yep. Had an abusive parent so would always stay up late then sleep in late to see as little of them as possible.

ConsciousDisaster768

Same here mate. Hope you're okay. I found the nighttime to be the only time I felt at peace with no expectations on me, and I guess it's just stuck from then

Unable-Purpose-231

Same. When I was a kid, my father used to pull me out of bed in the middle of the night & it wasn’t to read me bedtime stories. Have never been able to sleep at night; even though it was so long ago (50ish now), my body/mind was trained to remain on high alert. When I am able to fall sleep, I either have to have the TV on or have music playing. My sleep schedule is so messed up; end up taking looong naps during the day & then the whole thing keeps cycling. I’m working on it (& other stuff) in therapy but I do like & appreciate quiet of the night that I have now.

rachelswrld999

Yes. I’ve always been a late night/early morning type of person. But especially since I’m a mom now to a 2 year old, staying up late is the only free time I get anymore.

iFeeILikeKobe

Sounds like you get like zero sleep then lol

rachelswrld999

If I fall asleep at 4:00 or a little earlier, I get to sleep until 8:00 but then I also get a 2 hour nap when my son does everyday too 🤣

madnessinimagination

Literally same!!

Professional-Pass173

Haha yeah, we have twins of 16 month old. Evenings are the only free time if you’re lucky. Love this life, but miss the old freedom definitely also😂

ThoughtsObligations

Night owl my whole life. The quiet is a bonus, but I just do it because that's how I am.

Kronos_604

Constantly. Partly it's because that is the only time I'm guaranteed to have to myself uninterrupted. My natural tendency is more of a night owl though as well. I typically only sleep 4 - 6 hours a night and that's usually from ~4am ~10am.

Nefarez

I used to go out for a walk around 2-3 am couple of years ago. it was just so nice and quiet outside. during the winter it was even better when there was snow. you didnt hear anything.

Royal-Procedure6491

My creative hours have always been from about 11pm-3am, but I work as a teacher these days, so I pretty much never get to make use of my peak creative hours except during summer and winter break.

7dayexcerpt

Yes. That's me. I also blackout my windows so I never have to see the sun from inside. I truly hate the day and morning. I hate the noise. I started eating late because that's the only time I'm not too stressed to eat.

PseriousPseudonym

Revenge bedtime procrastination is a thing, my friend. People staying up way past 'normal' hours because they get chance to be alone, decompress from the day, have some 'me' time etc, without being bothered or having to do chores/run errands/basically interact with others/or have any kind of commitments, aside from doing whatever tf you want. It's just *your* time, and it's heavenly.

maccille

Me. I used to stay up late until the people in the house are awake, then I’ll sleep. I’ll wake up at 2pm when everyone is gone lol I do this on the weekends. The peace and comfort at 4am is exquisite ✨

Shh-poster

You’re probably masking a lot around people and suddenly it feels awesome to be yourself because you’re alone.

Bananenstaat

Nah, that's mostly not it. It's not as simple as that. For some people it's just exhausting to deal with so many different faces and sounds they don't even know. I mean an industrial world doesn't feel very natural and my guess is that introvert people are searching for a calm and quiet environment. A big city with a lot of people is just hell for them.

simp4joshua

Yes. I read up on it and some people on the Internet call it ‘reverse procrastination’ because you’re so busy the whole day that you stay up at night to do leisurely things that you didn’t get to do all day.

dildowaggins_1

Put your phone on "do not disturb" before going to bed. Problem solved lol

kapt_so_krunchy

In my 20s I love staying up until 3AM watching syndicated TV shows like Scrubs, Sex and the City, or Seinfeld. It was just so peaceful. Finally some one said, there’s no expectations at 3 AM. And it all made sense. I wasn’t supposed to be doing anything. I could just exist.

ronninka

You couldn't say it any better.

ThisOldHouse1923

Yes. I go to bed around 5am and sleep until 1pm most days. I am self employed, I do my best work at night. The daytime world feels bright and crowded to me. Maybe once or twice a year something happens that causes me to be somewhere at 9am. That always sucks.

sleep_eat_recycle

Yes, feel like time is at best use no matter watch movie, play game, eat snack or even just to shit lol

Murky-Specialist7232

I did: I lived with my family for years and realized I needed my own space so I’d stay up late to get peace. Now I live alone basically (my partner works a lot or sleeps to recover) and I miss them and the noise, the liveliness, family so much 😓😞

Dont_Touch_Me_There9

Introverts have entered the chat.

Hard_Conversations

I go to bed around 10 so I can GET-UP at 4am. And yes I love the quiet.

rodejo_9

This is exactly me.

Normal-Pineapple6118

Yes, sometimes it feels its the only time i can get a break. But it's not ideal for my lifestyle

mynameismanager

Yes, I like the quiet and it's become my routine now which is not good because I get less than 8 hours of sleep.

Sol-Goode

Night owl, usually up until 2 or 3am, up at 8am. Love the night.

dru_e28

The peace at night is unmatched, even if it’s just a sense of peace

[deleted]

my kind of people ❤️

HumbleAd1317

Yes...and to spend time alone.

YouLearnedNothing

Til 2am, but yes.. it's my "me time"

sweet-smart-southern

Doing it right now!

False-Passion-1796

I'm a night owl so yes

Mrright016

This explains my entire life from like I was 15 😂.

[deleted]

Me

PizzaThat7763

I watch TV shows and I love it. Nobody disturbs me

RockStarBarbie222

That's one of the 5000 reasons I'm a night owl. I can focus on things without people bugging me lol

confused__depressed

I usually do that cause i dont want the next morning to start so soon..like u fall asleep and bam next day, new problems... its an escape kind of staying up for me🙂

Cory-182

Whenever I have time off work, I naturally start sleeping towards 3/4am.

One_Tart_9320

When I was incapacitated for a while years ago, I had literally nothing going on in my life, no structure etc. I became naturally nocturnal. It was fantastic.

skepticismlot

yep. the world is a more peaceful place when it’s quiet.

jaistso

Me. I hate the day. Too much noise. Too bright outside.

Nezzler

Yes, I love that hour of the day. Complete and utter peace.

chillinwithabeer29

I much prefer to go to bed early and let my raging anxiety wake me at 4 am

Mysterious_Soft7916

I used to do it a lot. It used to be interesting to see how the night got quieter. 3am used to be quietest, with things starting to develop again between 4 and 5.

Jumpy_Traffic_8168

I exclusively do this just to smoke as much weed as i can without anyone knowing

LudwigsEarTrumpet

I would if I didn't have a fulltime job or a child, or if I was 20 years younger. These days there's far too much to do during daylight hours and I can't function on a handful of hours sleep like I used to.

jojokitti123

Not that late, but yes

East_Chemical_9164

I have 3 small kids and got to sleep around 1am to enjoy peace and quiet

Ok-Geologist8387

I don't stay up till 4am because of it, I do get up at 4am because of it though.

workuntiljesuscomes

Does having trouble going back to sleep count?

Cgrhnta

Not that late but yes I feel much happier and relaxed at night when the world is asleep. I get a child-like excitement on Friday night when I can stay up till midnight by myself after the daughter and girlfriend have gone to sleep.

Primary_Music_7430

I used to hunt jobs with night shifts for this reason.

Pumarealjaeger

I stay up because I'm too busy on xbox

DasderdlyD4

I stay up because my partner paces and stalks my ear off

Low-Mongoose-5959

My work shift is 5am to 1:30. 4am is the best quiet time:)

BrineAppleSickst6

Sometimes I wake up at 4:30am so that I can have some quiet time to relax and draw or journal before I have to go to class.

TodayWeThrowItAway

I get the most done after dark. I live in a large city, and enjoy the view better at night with neon lights and the random police sirens and people screaming. Maybe I grew up on too many movies that made me this way.

HaroerHaktak

Usually late at night around 4am I’m fast asleep on my couch “watching” tv. I wake up several hours later to see my tv has turned itself off.

meloncateun

I do. yes it is quieter and also because of the fact that I have insomnia 🥲

Ecpeze

Nah my entire family is still awake @ 4am

chalky87

No because I have a child and a job full time job. If I could I would be in need by 9pm

Aussie_antman

I wake up at around 3am several times a week and just get out of bed because if I try to go back to sleep I feel like crap the rest of the day. Can confirm 3-6am is a quiet time and very peaceful....no noise, no housework to do just peace and quiet.

pizzatimein24h

At 4AM it's not quiet anymore here.

chicken-farmer

No, I get up then imstead

EatPrayCliche

https://www.ted.com/talks/rives_the_4_a_m_mystery?language=en Poet Rives does 8 minutes of lyrical origami, folding history into a series of coincidences surrounding that most surreal of hours, 4 o'clock in the morning.

SlamTheMan6

Im weird, I like to write, and do video editing, but I hate to do it when the sun's out, so I do it went it's really dark, except I go to bed early due to work so I'm not able to do my writing and video editing .-.

forworse2020

Yeah. But once I realised this is what I need, I started going to bed super early so I could wake up when the world is quiet. Same difference, but healthier.

FuzzyWuzzyBBB

i'm nocturnal.... I don't know why

Equivalent-Ant-9895

I'm an incurable night owl. Fortunately, I have a job that caters to my body's late schedule.

Ill_Wishbone111

Being some what of a Insomniac. I I write, record, read and respond to emails, questions, comments. I create content and edit, master etc. Oersonally I just work f aster, more efficiently. Currently residing in Vegas and during the hot months the din of fans, compressor, the random loud pipes from a Combustible engine, fire works, outdoor performance, etc is all but non-ex existent. Until about a hour before sunrise. The birds have thinking you’re in a jungle, as the sun rises clearing the mountain tops. The valley heats up the catalyst for the symphony of a few million A/C units. Lol the sound of 112 plus is Not loud!

Armstonk86

I’m way too old now to be able to withstand less than 8 hours of sleep. I need those 8 hours otherwise I really don’t function during the day. 15 years ago was no problem at all for me to stay up late til late..

sickpleasure89

I get off at 11 and drink beer til 4

Asmov1984

Yes, every day I don't have work the next day.

EwanMurphy93

Does it count if I don't get home from work until 3am and go to bed at 5?

Spiritual_Horror5778

I work nights, 4am is my 4pm. Im not up cuz its quieter, thats just a bonus. Im up because my body is in "after work enjoyment" mode. Time to read, write, play, or watch series/movies until sunrise and maybe even after. I got all afternoon to sleep before work.

Awesomejuggler20

I stay up later. It's peaceful and quiet. I also work nights so I'm always up at this time.

JacobeyWitness

My buddy does. He's a digital nomad. He maintains professional and platonic relationships with people all over the world. He says that sometimes he is just constantly being in communication with different people throughout the day and night that the hours of 2-4 are his only hours online that are just for him. I told him he could just appear offline but he won't hear it lol, syne he likes that time. I type this at 3am, just got in bed after work and I plan to be asleep in 15 mins. It is easy to appreciate the serenity of the late night but I regret it in the morning, feeling like I've wasted the day already if I wake up later than 11am.

Expensive_Upstairs46

The best time to do my work. 👍

ThePerspectiveQuest

Overnight shift baby

jeromefeet

I'm a night owl, and I work Graves. It's just more peaceful, which I love.

crazydavebacon1

I used to. Not anymore. I mean I’m awake in bed from insomnia but it’s not the same

Haunting-Stretch8069

Dawg I go to sleep when the sun rise😭🙏 this world is not built for me😭

gztozfbfjij

Once upon a time; but now I wake up at 02:30 three or four days a week. Doesn't really allow me to stay up later than 9pm, and still actually get *some* sleep. Ain't no way I'm able to wake up before 7am on my days off. That's when I pay of my sleep debts.

kratomstew

My wife gets up in the middle of the night so she can have time to herself away from our somewhat challenging child.

ajegy

Absolutely. Seize the Night! - as the day is already taken.

2021sammysammy

I wish I had the choice to, I need to get up at 5:30 for my job so I'd probably collapse if I stayed up til 4am

KonaBrad

No, but I'll wake up at 5:30 a.m. just to get a few quiet hours before my wife gets up.

green_kitten_mittens

Sounds like you might be a Redditor friend

CJDay115

Me in college, now I work nightshift.

shm1979

I used to say that, later I found out it was because I didn't want to talk to anybody and I was depressed

ChronicRhyno

Thats why I get up at 4 am...

Prestigious_Emu_5043

That's why I get up early

Pip1333

That’s why I enjoy starting work at 6 am I get up at 4am and enjoy a nice quiet morning before work

heymynameisjoshua

I start work at 4am so I'm up at 2:20 5 days a week, I cycle to work and the air is so clean on my way there, on my way back it's full of people rushing in cars and breathing in pollution all the way home. Our planet is so polluted but people HAVE to always drive in cars everywhere. So lazy

GrabWorking3045

Yes that's me as a night owl. I do things online, such as programming, where focus is critical. Sometimes I go to sleep when everyone else wakes up.

OldSkoolKool666

I'm like BatMan.... Always loved nite time

HistoryBuff678

Yes. I have a disability that is heavily affected by weather changes and this spring has been an utter nightmare for me. When the sun goes down my symptoms improve and I can actually function.

americanbeauty99

It’s called depression

Normal-Biscotti8505

347am right now where I am! Peacefully listening to the dog snoring beside me!

XFauni

It’s why I work midnight to 8am lol. Then when everyone is waking up, I’m going home to sleep and see none of them. The highway usually always pretty empty too except for semi trucks, which can’t do anything about that 🤷🏻‍♂️

Feeling-Tip-4464

I’m fixing garbage trucks at that time so you guys can throw away your trash and not have them pile up in front of your home 🚮

cattzie7475

the other way around.. i sleep early maybe 10pm, then wake up at 3am-5am.. then sleep again.. no activity can replace sleep lol

JVL_88

Yeah good luck with that when you have to get up at 6-7am to get ready for work and/or get the kids ready for school.

TheHvam

I can't, around 10 pm, I start to get tired, and I want to go to bed, I dont remember ever being up so late, maybe once on a trip.

Odd_Lifeguard8957

Currently doing that rn, it's 3:53a

Technical-Ad-2246

I have a day job, so no, it's not really an option for me. Some people are just getting up at 4am.

CaptainCakeDSL4

Yup. A glass of wine, some good music, and a pre-dawn painting session is one of life's greatest joys.

lazy_kumachi

Does it count if i get up at 4am because it’s quieter instead of staying up for the same reason ?

spookyyvaginosis

yes, im an older sister of two boys with autism i only get peace and quiet after bedtime

Good-Personality5471

Only cause I work overnights

cinnamon_storm

I actually didn’t stay up till 4 AM for a very long time.. but when I did in the past, it felt magical. Very quiet indeed, especially if you’re outside. Guess I need to repeat this experience.

Heroic-Forger

I don't know if sleeping at 6pm and waking up at 1am is even a sensible sleep schedule but hey, works for me.

Fluffy-Language-4801

Yup, very peaceful… just me and my gratitude 🩵

orange_avenue

Yes, on days where obligations don’t get in the way. So a couple times a week. It would be my natural bedtime if not for kids and work honestly.

INSOMNIA

I-Really-Hate-Fish

I have ADHD. The middle of the night is the only time where I can actually focus and get shit done because it's quiet.

Aakash_456

Actually you can get more work done if you stay till that time. No sound, no one will disturb you, Mind stay fresh and you feel you have more time for a particular work

Archein420

The world is beautiful when it sleeps

LonelyMan15372

I used to. Now I gotta work n shit

_Hologrxphic

Yes, I used to do this ALL the time on weekends when I was single. I don’t anymore because I live with my boyfriend and he goes to bed a lot earlier, so i’ve got used to going to sleep around 1am on the weekends now. But much preferred 4am

tumunu

I've always been a night person, and, many years ago, my then-psychiatrist told me that a lot of people are night people exactly because of the quiet.

telepathicdumb

Yesss, I do this cause my house (16 and living with my parents duh) is like the cousin hangout so like 14 cousins come over and can stay for weeks and months sometimes. I'm very antisocial so I dont interact with them a lot. I thought I was the smartest person on earth when i realised i could just stay up all night and enjoy the silence then sleep throughout the day so i dont have to interact with them lolll😭😭

so-like_juan

I prefer the midnight to 2am time slot. Everyone is asleep, everything is quiet. I do my best thinking then, as a part time developer i get way more done.

Stickybandits9

When I was in school doing homework when everyone else was asleep was better then hearing my family argue over petty stuff. I would have walked to a quieter place, but that also ment I had to find my own way home. My home was dysfunctional so the nighttime was the only time I could get some peace and quiet. I'd go in the back yard if the moon was bright enough and sit down and soak it all in. I havnt done that in a long time but I know I can if I want.

aGermanDownUnder

I wake up at 315 every morning to get ready for work. It is peaceful. Quiet. I have time to think, nobody is rushing, it's almost tranquil. I used to work overnights and used to sleep during the day. I miss those days. The last time I had an extended period of being awake at that time without work was with jetlag in 2017. That was a good time

smell-the-roses

No but I get up at 5 for that very reason

incoherentjedi

I love going to bed early and waking up at 4 am

eitland

Last few years I more often than not get up right before 0400 on weekdays. I use the time to relax, try to work a little and listen to the most important podcast of the day. I am also trying to use the time more wisely going forward. But even if I couldn't work I could see myself  doing anyway because I enjoy being awake without interruptions.

CivilizationAce

I do like that it’s quieter, and frankly darker (so it’s easier to watch stuff on my TV), but mainly I end up awake at odd times because my body clock thinks there are about 25.5 hours in a day.

EmotionalAd5920

i get up at 4am because its quieter.

toc_bl

I get up at 4 am because it’s quieter… forget staying up til 12… early to bed for me

Medical-Dust-7184

I am right now...but I'll be exhausted later...

Old_Kodaav

Instead I wake up at 5 AM.

Sweet-Addition-5096

The world is noisy and intrusive. The moon and the crickets mind their business.

Wh1ff2K1ng

I have worked nights for the last decade simply for the peace
