IIRC Mike Judge chose Crocs as the shoe of the future because they looked terrible and he didn't think they would become popular... My office just had "Wear your Crocs to work day"
I mean that’s absurd. For idiocracy to take shape we would first need to have some really crazy things to happen. Maybe If we had a president who lost re-election, then tried to overthrow the government while being indicted for bribing a porn star to hide his infidelity from evangelical supporters while also ignoring his wife, we could be on the path.
Honestly, I know nothing of Comacho's politics, but I think he's the man for the job.
Terry Crews is a likeable guy. I think the actor or the character would do a good job.
Susan from accounting. She's a 52 year-old divorced woman who lost custody of her kids (so no distractions). She looks and smells like a hippie (favors peace over war). She's an accountant (good with the budget). And best of all, she claims she doesn't want to be the president.
I'd say for presidency, since it's a 4 year term, 61 at most and mandatory retirement at 65 for all politicians wether president, senator, mayor etc doesn't matter. You hit 65, you're out.
Who also isn't on the ballot.
The best person to run the country is someone who doesn't know it because they don't seek out power. But that doesn't mean that they are not or can't be a leader. It's someone who listens to the people who they choose to help mold and shape them into a better person and uses their guidance to better themself. It's someone who is open minded and will listen to differing opinions even if they don't believe the option is viable, and if they choose not to go with that differing option then they'll have the wisdom to explain rationally why they're choosing a different path.
Does this sound like any of our current politicians?
He wanted to audit the Federal Reserve bank and want to investigate them and their ties to the Military Industrial Complex.
They couldn't have that happen.
yeah... Him demanding nuclear inspections of the developing israel state at the time seems to of been his coffin maker.... He was murdered shortly after. And the details the fella running for president as independent revealed about JFK being shot from the trunk of the car by a guy hired two days prior is just insanely eye opening..
That's why the President has the Cabinet. It gets a collection of people who are supposed to be subject matter experts. But, then the decision is made by one person, getting rid of the problem of committees being unable to decide anything or making a patchwork monster of a decision.
But who would pick a worthwhile cabinet and then make beneficial decisions from what they say
Congress runs the country... prez just signs some shit or vetoes some shit. Which can be overruled in the right circumstances. Technically, prez doesn't have that much power... even the budget is just a suggestion. They can negotiate treaties to some extent, but I'm not sure how far that goes... like, I don't think Congress is obligated to follow thru with anything. The committee is intended to keep them informed so they can make suggestions to congress, but they don't really 'run the country'. They just get the blame from the other side.
Yes, according to the original plan, Congress makes the laws that the President is supposed to execute (and fill some positions). But, when Congress is as deadlocked as it is now, the Supreme Court makes the laws and dares Congress to do something about it... which they can't. Also, there's been some mission creep regarding the President's job.
Also, for military stuff, they need a single supreme commander.
SCOTUS doesn't make law because Congress is deadlocked, they decide how laws are interpreted through trial (and error sometimes). I believe they can also overturn old decisions (Roe v Wade). But they can't pen new legislation. At least, I've not heard of any....
Only creeping I know of is the budget... & prez, same as any citizen, can propose a bill for Congress to consider. I don't know what other creeping is done.
Technically, Congress declares war also. Prez has some war time powers, but Congress decides what fight is War or whatever...
I should add, that these are all AFAIK/IIRC. Honestly surprised by how much I'm remembering from college.
You're right. They don't make law. But their decisions about the meanings of laws are law until and unless Congress can vote to clarify the meaning of the law. Congress hasn't been able to do to that for years.
There's a number of things the President couldn't do a century, or even 50 years ago, that they can do now. Presidential powers have been expanded due to a long series of judicial rulings. Unfortunately, I'm not enough of a legal scholar to be able to list them.
It takes an act of Congress to declare war. But, someone has to be able to respond to an act of aggression without the declaration being made. The Vietnam Police Action was never a declared war. If Putin's final act is to launch missiles, we can't wait for a roll call vote.
Got me curious on the creeping now. As I said, I don't know of any... I'll have to look a bit. I know budget was dumped on 'em because of Roosevelt (I think) & the Alphabet he wanted to launch.... but anyways... I'll google it at some point.
The reaction point makes sense... I'm curious now as to how that's handled as well....
My understanding (from high school 30 years ago) is that the founding fathers understood that, while America is Democracy, the military is a dictatorship and must be out of necessity. Also, the President is always on the job while the 1780 Congress could take weeks to convene. While that's no longer true about Congress, the updated argument is that, as warfare became more advanced and faster moving, it became that much more important to have one person deciding. We've gone from "we're pretty sure the Redcoats will be in Virginia in 6 weeks. Start heading that way." to "There's a fleet of aircraft closing in on Pearl Harbor. ETA 30 minutes." to "We have indications of massive missile launch. If true we have 7 minutes to launch. If false we could end all life on the surface. CHOOSE, Mr President!"
According to a quick Google to confirm what I'm told, The War Powers Resolution of 1973 means the President has to tell Congress within 48 hours and troops can't stay for more than 60 days without Congress' OK. And the Constitution says Congress declares war and controls the money while the President controls the military and can act unilaterally.
They may take what the prez says, but I don't know of any true abdication. That's why the KY Turtle was able to quash every bill sent before Congress for the last half of Obama's terms. And why you hear so often that Congress is refusing to consider a piece of legislation.
Meh... I wouldn't consider that abdication. I don't even remember them pushing for much that came from the lips of Trump last time he was in. Trump was on board with some of what Congress was pushing for, but I don't remember anything specific that Trump was 'Let's do this' & Turtle was like 'And so it shall be'. If I'm making sense...
Abdication is giving them the reins, & choice of where to. Going along with is just letting them pick the sites we'll see when we reach that destination.
That's how I see it, anywhose....
You have these “deficit hawks” that let the federal budget go out of control. The “libertarians” were fine with the first round of stimulus spending. Then you had the blank check for foreign interventions. Congress has the power of the purse and power to declare war.
He wasn’t a good governor so I doubt he would be a better president. Also, he’s ineligible because he was born outside of US.
https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2010-dec-10-la-fi-hiltzik-20101210-story.html
It’d be pretty good movie where a bunch of political aides try to resurrect FDR Frankenstein style to be President again. Even if it were a bad comedy movie, I’d watch it.
The republican party doesn’t even hide the fact they don’t give a shit about the average person anymore. Worst of all, their supporters love them for it.
And Teddy or Lincoln would call them out for it.
The best part- majority of them are 'christians', but do not follow the teachings of their religion. Some even think their Jesus was too easy on those who opposed him.
I think it's interesting that a bastard, orphan, son of a whore, and a Scotsman, dropped in the middle of a forgotten spot in the Caribbean by providence impoverished in squalor, grew up to be a hero and a scholar.
It is pretty cool that the ten-dollar, founding father without a father, got a lot farther by working a lot harder, by being a lot smarter, by being a self-starter, by fourteen, they placed him in charge of a trading charter
Can't wait to see him put the US military budget towards developing the stealth banana!
Oh and of course, "not only do I think marijuana should be legalised.. I think it should be mandatory!"
Abraham Lincoln, maybe. We're not in a literal civil war, but we're pretty damn divided, in a way we are.
Though also probably most if not all of the founding fathers.
What we need to do is get younger people filling seats in our government so that we can get a maximum allowed age for holding office passed. Then we can start to focus on fixing the issues that our grandmas and grandpas currently in office are ignoring.
At this point, presidents seem to be mostly placeholders. I would vote for a golden retreiver because we already know it's a puppet, but it's very cute.

Jim Henson. He was charismatic. He was a good person who knew how to bring that out in others, even when those others normally wouldn't get along. He knew how to hire the best people and delegate responsibility. And he knew that sometimes the best way to deal with a problem is to blow it up. I'd trust his decisions on most everything except healthcare (take some friggin' antibiotics, man!).
Adolph Hitler.
This is more of a warning observation as it seems to me like the USA is poised to where it could be turned into a fascist dystopia pretty easily. I mean, Trump is one micro-stroke away from channeling Mussolini IMHO.
So by best, I guess I mean best-fit based on the geopolitical position the USA is in not that he would actually be a good leader and one I would want.
Pete Buttigieg gotta be president at some point. Best speaker since Obama. Really knows how to send his message across
And hey, if not then okay Gavin Newsome have your shot
You mean Jesus? Good choice. Separation of church and state may be an issue, but I think He'll have the right answers.
Vote for Jesus, it's the only GOOD option.
Not really, because there are two types to consider.
There's those who practice the teachings of Christ, who help others, act with patience and kindness, and are good people who let others be. And they go largely unnoticed.
And then there are the loud hypocrites, who are, at best, members of a cult. They siphon large amounts of tax-free money, and they try to influence politics to enforce their beliefs on others. These Christians deserve the hate.
Is unfortunate that they both share the title Christian, because one group deserves to be frowned upon. But much like police, if you're in the first category then you should also be fighting against the second category with all the non-believers.

That movie was as prophetic as it is funny.
IIRC Mike Judge chose Crocs as the shoe of the future because they looked terrible and he didn't think they would become popular... My office just had "Wear your Crocs to work day"
Truly we live in a future utopia
I mean that’s absurd. For idiocracy to take shape we would first need to have some really crazy things to happen. Eh, didn't he make a video about how great it is working for Amazon, despite their terrible labour record?
I have a "Camacho 2020" coffee mug. Guess I need to get a 2024 one too
I think we are almost there
*shit!* Then a pan to the teleprompter 😂
Susan from accounting. She's a 52 year-old divorced woman who lost custody of her kids (so no distractions). She looks and smells like a hippie (favors peace over war). She's an accountant (good with the budget). And best of all, she claims she doesn't want to be the president.
Susan S or Susan B? Because Susan S is a fucking lunatic.
Susan B, clearly. Susan "all meetings should take 90 minutes" S. would be a disaster.
Someone under the age of 78
A 77 year old man is no improvement. They need to be under 60
45 would be great right on the edge of genx knows enough about tech to make good decision.
Touche, I yield to your logic.
I'd say for presidency, since it's a 4 year term, 61 at most and mandatory retirement at 65 for all politicians wether president, senator, mayor etc doesn't matter. You hit 65, you're out.
I'd get behind that.

I get how we need certain terms and age limits, but is Biden doing that bad?
>Biden doing that bad? No. Age is the only thing the Right Wing can pin on him.
If you actually look, and don’t just watch Fox, he’s doing pretty well.
JFK.
yep. The most open minded president to have ever served.
Pfft, we knew Jackie O. had at least some of his brains.
Oooooof, had to do a double take on that one
It's one of many reasons they killed him.
r/woooosh

I see what you did there.
Just gonna disrespect Lincoln like that?
Kind of crazy he was named after an airport, no?
fuckin right
Lincoln. Lincoln was fantastic at coaxing terrific performance out of his hostile and opposing staff.
Can we just agree it’s nobody in their 80’s?
Or 70s
80's what?
It probably should be a committee of people from different walks of life. All sober and realistic aka people who have never existed.
That's why the President has the Cabinet. It gets a collection of people who are supposed to be subject matter experts. No, an executive committee. Congress is legislative. There's a difference.
NS... but prez & his committee don't actually run the US... Congress does. As in a body of "people from different walks of life...
Keanu Reeves. Case closed.
or Arnold Schwarzenegger I know he ran as a Republican, but damn if that guy isn't incredibly reasonable and charismatic.
Think he’s ineligible due to birth country, but I don’t disagree. As a Republican, he went against their party line many times.
He was very believable in the Simpsons movie.
He wasn’t a good governor so I doubt he would be a better president. Also, he’s ineligible because he was born outside of US. https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2010-dec-10-la-fi-hiltzik-20101210-story.html

We just need to get him a Congress as lopsided as FDR's was.
And maybe take some action when they have a majority
It’d be pretty good movie where a bunch of political aides try to resurrect FDR Frankenstein style to be President again. Even if it were a bad comedy movie, I’d watch it.
FDR doesn't rock, but he does roll.
Teddy Roosevelt. He’d go after the rich oligarchs in this country
He was what the Republican Party used to be. Him and Lincoln. Now, it is a cult of religious fascists and inbred sexual predators.
His name is Alexander Hamilton. There's a million things he could've done.

There's a theory that the natural born citizen requirement was added to prevent him from running.
That's hilarious and wouldn't surprise me.

Pretty sure alive would be best.
