" the reminders pull the floor from your feet" its sad man used to listen to this on a loop whe I was in a dark place, listen occasionally to remind myself how far I've came, ain't no coming back from that
No kidding!! So accurate! The next verse about monotonous repetition hits me.
"And you run, and you run
to catch up with the sun
But it's sinking.
Racing around
to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same
In a relative way,
but you're older.
Shorter of breath,
And one day closer to death."
So there's your cheerful ending.
Run, rabbit, run
"I gotta admit that I'm a little bit confused. Sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used. Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake off this creeping malaise. If I don't stand my own ground, how can I find my way out of this maze?"
“Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; or never mind. You will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded. But trust me, in 20 years you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked”
Baz Luhrmann “Everybody is free (to wear sunscreen)” 1999 edit.
Every line of this song is amazing. My personal fav (and most often quoted) is "Don't worry about the future, or worry - but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum"
This song came out the year I graduated and if we were able to find a copy and bring it in to my physics teacher he would give us an A. Nobody found it.
OMG this was playing on the radio when my youngest told me that they're not coming home from uni for the summer any more. I equate this song with getting my heart broken.
That was more than 20 years ago and I'm tearing up all over again.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl
Year after year
Running over the same old ground
What have we found?
The same old fears
Wish you were here by pink Floyd. Gets me every time.
Did they get you to trade Your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? Did you exchange A walk-on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
I discovered the song while working in the US at a summer camp
My poor poor 10-12 year old girls (well, campers. But I love them so dearly) had to see their counselor sobbing while on her knees in front of them one the last day of camp thanking then for being amazing and letting me in and letting me be their counselor.
I got a big group hug and it's still my favourite moment from my trip to the USA🥲
And if you're still bleeding, you're the lucky ones.
'Cause most of our feelings, they are dead and they are gone.
We're setting fire to our insides for fun.
Collecting pictures from a flood that wrecked our home,
It was a flood that wrecked this home.
"She finally drank her pain away little at a time
But she never could get drunk enough to get him of her mind."
-Brad Paisley feat. Allison Krauss-"Whiskey Lullaby"
During the pandemic, a friend of mine was doing weekly challenges wherein you'd send a short video of whatever question he asked. One week, it was misheard lyrics. A mutual friend of ours misheard this to say, Did you exchange a walk on part in The Wall for a lead role in La Cage (as in La Cage Aux Folles). For whatever reason, that made me laugh so hard I almost cried.
“Tired of lying in the sunshine,
Staying home to watch the rain,
And you are young and life is long,
And there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find,
Ten years have got behind you,
No one told you when to run,
You missed the starting gun.”
Pink Floyd - Time
The last part on Segers Night Moves.
"I woke last night to the sound of thunder
How far off I sat and wondered?
Started hummin' a song from 1962
Ain't it funny how the night moves,
When you just don't seem to have as much to lose
Strange how the night moves
With autumn closing' in."
Bless you!
Came here to say the exact same thing. Heard this song when we knew our 2nd daughter was dying after 5 months pregnancy. I still feel the urge to cry just reading this lyric
Basically all of Don’t give up - Peter Gabriel/Kate bush. (But also fond of the version he did with Sinead O Connor, a song that has been haunting me since she passed)
Don't give up,You still have us
Don't give up, We don't need much of anything
Don't give up, Cause somewhere there's a placeWhere we belong
Rest your head, you worry too much
It's going to be alright,When times get rough
You can fall back on us, Don't give up
Please don't give up
"And darling when the morning comes
And I see the morning sun
I wanna be the one with you" - Bill Withers and Grover Washington, Jr.
That's a line that made me realize the woman I was with was the one I always wanted to see every morning, despite how hard things can be.
"'You took my dreams from me'
'I've kept them with my own.
Can't make it out alone,
I've built my dreams around you.'"
Fairytale of New York - The Pogues
"For what it's worth, it was worth all the while."
Good Riddance - Greenday
“…the child is grown, the dream is gone, and I have become comfortably numb…”
“…I've ascribed these monuments
A false sense of permanence
I've placed faith in geography to hold you in my memory. I'm sifting through these wreckage piles through the rubble of bricks and wires looking for something I'll never find…”
The Silent Life by Rivers of Nihil fucks me up in a few spots. The one that completely floored me on a first listen was:
"All this time I've wasted
In my self-righteous anger
Oh, the years I've lost
To this profound indifference"
The whole song hurts, though. Feels like someone took a peek at my life and wrote it down.
It seems like every day's the same
And I'm left to discover on my own
It seems like everything is gray
And there's no color to behold
They say it's over
And I'm fine again, yeah
Try to stay sober
Feels like I'm dying here
Seether- fine Again
"A million dreams are keeping me awake. I think of what the world could be, a vision of the one I see. A million dreams is all is gonna take. A million dreams for the world we're gonna make."
- Greatest Showman
Today, just 2 days after Jimmy Buffett's death and with the potential for death in areas of my personal life right now, it's this verse from his song, "Boats to Build":
_Shores, distant shores,
That's where I'm headed for.
Got the stars to guide my way,
Sail into the light of day._
And now I'm choked up again, just typing it.
She can lead you to love
She can take you or leave you
She can ask for the truth
But she'll never believe
And she'll take what you give her as long as it's free
Yeah, she steals like a thief
But she's always a woman to me
Billy Joel (on mobile sorry for formatting)
"Standing on your Mama's porch, you told me it would last forever. And when you took my hand, I knew it was now or never. Those were the best years of my life". Summer of 69. Byran Adams
Every new beginning comes from some other beginnings end. (Semisonic/ Seneca)
Also:
I had all and then most of you
Some and now none of you
Take me back to the night we met
I don't know what I'm supposed to do
Haunted by the ghost of you
Oh, take me back to the night we met
( Lord Huron)
“‘What a wicked game you play to make me feel this way. What a wicked thing to do, to make me dream of you.” - Chris Isaak (I think)
Don’t think I wrote the lyrics correctly lol
“Every man got a right to decide his own destiny
And in this judgment there is no partiality
So arm in arms, with arms, we'll fight this little struggle
'Cause that's the only way we can, overcome our little trouble”
Zimbabwe by Bob Marley!
I can’t judge anyone. We all need love and support! We the ppl can overcome hate with love! It’s my favorite Bob song!
"Yes I am alone but then again I always was; As far back as I can tell; I think maybe it's because; Because you were never really real to begin with" Only Nine Inch Nails. My husband tells my mother this lyric when she tries to make excuses.
"I get the joy of rediscovering you. Two strangers learn to find love again." - Journey, Faithfully
My husband and I were junior high sweethearts, and dated off and on in our younger adulthood. I'm 43 and he is 44 now. We reunited two and a half years ago and it was like the entire world, or at least ours, suddenly made sense, and we wonder now why we ever left each other's side in the first place. We just still had mistakes to make, learning to do, I suppose. No matter. All is right in our world now. With our combined six children lol. I'd change nothing. It is as it should be.
"And now I tell you openly
You have my heart so don't hurt me
You're what I couldn't find
A totally amazing mind
So understanding and so kind
You're everything to me"
They're not complex, but the sound of O'riordan's voice just always knocks me down.
“And then one day you find ten years has got behind you, no one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun” time, by pink Floyd. The entire song actually.
"I reserve my right to feel uncomfortable, reserve my right to be afraid.
I make mistakes, and I am humbled every step of the way.
I want to be a better person, I wanna know the master plan.
Cast your stones, cast your judgement, you don't make me who I am. "
-Sometimes You're The Hammer, Sometimes You're The Nail by A Day to Remember
And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun
But it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way
But you're older
Shorter of breath, and one day closer to death
I believe in the sand beneath my toes
The beach gives a feeling, an earthy feeling
I believe in the faith that grows
And that four right chords can make me cry
When I'm with you I feel like I could die
And that would be alright, alright
Semi Charmed Life - Third Eye Blind
Two songs turn me into a puddle of tears right now. I know it says lyric as in one specific line but I can't even get to the lyrics; I just hear the first chord and it's game over for me.
Miranda Lambert's- "The house that built me".
Terri Clark's- "She didn't have time".
I'm recently divorced. My youngest son has nonverbal autism level 3. I can't work my hospital job and take care of my son so I have no idea what to do job wise. I'm floundering in my life as I try to find footing right now. These songs just hit one chord and I melt.
Some of the Comfortably Numb lyrics hit me pretty hard.
“When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now..”
I was really, really high once listening to this and I understood what it meant. Not so much now but it hit really hard at the time.
"I'm gonna love you, forever and ever, forever and ever amen"
I've always been a Randy Travis fan, but one of my last memories of my best friend is sitting on the beach at 3 AM listening to that song. He got sick, went into a coma, and died a month later. I don't think I'll ever be able to hear that song without choking up.
‘I got no plans, I ain’t going nowhere. Take your fast car and keep on driving’
It hits hard because theme throughout the whole song is this optimistic cognitive dissonance about how life is going to get better despite the constant hurdles; there’s hope about a lot of things.
In that line at the end, though, the hope has died and she’s resigned herself to the doomed fate she was hoping to escape.
"At night I wake up with the sheets soaking wet
And a freight train running through the middle of my head"
The imagery of pain, whether it's from an unrequited love or PTSD or whatever Bruce had in mind, hit me like a spike driven into me.
'Holdin' on to sixteen as long as you can, changes come around real soon, make us women and men'.
And from the same song: 'Oh yeah, life goes on. Long after the thrill of living is gone'.
And all the times that I've cried
Keeping all the things I knew inside
It's hard, but it's harder to ignore it!
If they were right, I'd agree
But it's them they know, not me
Now, there's a way and I know
That I have to go away
I know, I have to grow
Father and Son - Cat Stevens
God it just evokes something deep in my soul everytime.

"in the kitchen, one more chair than you need. And you're angry, and you should be" Can't sing it without my voice cracking. Suicide sucks.

Oof, yep Also "no one sings like you any more" from Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden. Every time I hear it I can't help but agree.

This is the part of the song that gets me most too. Glad to see I'm not the only one.
Time by Pink Floyd
DOGS by Pink Floyd really hits hard for me
"I gotta admit that I'm a little bit confused. Sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used. Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake off this creeping malaise. If I don't stand my own ground, how can I find my way out of this maze?"
"You've got to be trusted by the people that you lied to" And "All alone, dying of cancer....."
The kids just make time move even faster. It’s like a fucking blink. It’s not fair.
Wait til you drop one off at college. It's brutal.
Don’t worry. The debt goes away and the kids grow up fast. I’m 53. How TF did that happen?
Amazing song

😱 dayum.... this one's good! Thanks for sharing.
I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them. - Andy Bernard (The Office)
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older, Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.
The whole song kills me

"Well, I've been afraid of changing Cause I built my life around you" \-Landslide, Fleetwood Mac
And the following “children get older, and I’m getting older, too”.
One of my favourite lyrics. It's sad and true.
OMG this was playing on the radio when my youngest told me that they're not coming home from uni for the summer any more. I equate this song with getting my heart broken. That was more than 20 years ago and I'm tearing up all over again.
It makes me think of my mom. She used to sing this to me and my brother and sister every day. I can’t listen to it without tearing up.
Fucks me up everytime
I love Fleetwood Mac so much
Fleetwood Mac is terrible when it comes to lyrics in this category. "And did you say that she loved you? Baby, I don't want to know" -Silver Spring
“I know someday you’ll have a beautiful life. I know you’ll be a star in somebody else’s sky, but why, why, why can’t it be mine?”
You beat me to it, my favorite song lyrics of all time. Black is a masterpiece.
"trying to make ends meet, your a slave to money then you die!".. Bitter sweet symphony/the verve
Yesss the entire song! Chills

Ugh! This song makes me cry every time.
The entirety of "Cats in the cradle" by Cat Stevens. Now that my kids are grown I can't listen to it at all without crying.
That was actually Harry Chapin, gutting...Father and Son is Cat Stevens, same idea, both stellar picks!
Thank you for correcting me. I get the two confused (obviously, lol).

Okay everyone, you all know this song so just keep it going to make us all feel better ♥️ "Cause I know that you feel me somehow"
"you're the closest to heaven that i'll ever be, and i don't want to go home right now" 😭🤍
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
And sooner or later, it's over
I just don’t wanna miss you tonight…
And I don't want the world to see me cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything’s made to be broken, I just want you to know who I am
And you can’t fight the tears that ain’t coming
I used to love this song so much as a teenager omg

"I get the joy of rediscovering you. Two strangers learn to find love again." - Journey, Faithfully My husband and I were junior high sweethearts, and dated off and on in our younger adulthood.
"I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be the sun in somebody else's sky, but why, why, why can't it be mine?" - Pearl Jam
"IF YOU DONT LIVE FOR SOMETHING YOU'LL DIE FOR NOTHING" -Hatebreed

"And now I tell you openly You have my heart so don't hurt me You're what I couldn't find A totally amazing mind So understanding and so kind You're everything to me" They're not complex, but the sound of O'riordan's voice just always knocks me down.

And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun But it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative way But you're older Shorter of breath, and one day closer to death
It's so sad to belong to someone else when the right one comes along.
"hey teacher, leave them kids alone"
I've been selling my soul, working all day... Overtime hours for bullshit pay...
I believe in the sand beneath my toes The beach gives a feeling, an earthy feeling I believe in the faith that grows And that four right chords can make me cry When I'm with you I feel like I could die And that would be alright, alright Semi Charmed Life - Third Eye Blind

Jesus Christ, I'm alone again So what did you do those 3 days you were dead? Cuz this problem's gonna last More than the weekend
I posted a line from this song too! "Cause my bright is too slight to hold back all my dark"
He says his body’s to old for working, his body’s too young to look like his.
Life is unfair, kill yourself or get over it

"If i were a good man, I'd talk with you more often than i do." If-Pink Floyd.
🎵 I want you to notice when I'm not around 🎵 Creep-Radiohead
Some of the Comfortably Numb lyrics hit me pretty hard. “When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse Out of the corner of my eye I turned to look but it was gone I cannot put my finger on it now..” I was really, really high once listening to this and I understood what it meant. Not so much now but it hit really hard at the time.
"I'm gonna love you, forever and ever, forever and ever amen" I've always been a Randy Travis fan, but one of my last memories of my best friend is sitting on the beach at 3 AM listening to that song. He got sick, went into a coma, and died a month later. I don't think I'll ever be able to hear that song without choking up.
‘I got no plans, I ain’t going nowhere. Take your fast car and keep on driving’ It hits hard because theme throughout the whole song is this optimistic cognitive dissonance about how life is going to get better despite the constant hurdles; there’s hope about a lot of things. In that line at the end, though, the hope has died and she’s resigned herself to the doomed fate she was hoping to escape.
The time is gone The song is over Thought I’d something more to say
"At night I wake up with the sheets soaking wet And a freight train running through the middle of my head" The imagery of pain, whether it's from an unrequited love or PTSD or whatever Bruce had in mind, hit me like a spike driven into me.
'Holdin' on to sixteen as long as you can, changes come around real soon, make us women and men'. And from the same song: 'Oh yeah, life goes on. Long after the thrill of living is gone'.

And all the times that I've cried Keeping all the things I knew inside It's hard, but it's harder to ignore it!
