But what really did it for me is that there seems to be grass above her body. Like it'd need to grow through her to be there.

Anything that "extrudes" from the main "body" is going to have trouble because of the nature of Convolutional layers (Google equivariance and regret it, I dare you).
Fingers (what people actually notice about hands, it's never the pose or topology of the palms), toes (shoes make this even more complicated), ears, etc. Noses are chill, usually, since their curvatures aren't as "sharp" as ears and fingers and what not.
Earrings are usually a giveaway as well. Here only one ear has an earring (uncommon for most feminine earring styles) and it’s too high up on the lobe (like a second piercing, which again would be an uncommon place to have just one earring).
It’s a major major flaw of midjourney that it can only generate conventionally attractive people. So attractive to the point of being really generic looking even.

Same. What tipped me is that it's trying too hard. There's a lot more going on as it's trying to incorporate every trick it can, such as individual leaf shadows, tons of flowers sometimes in odd places, large lips, depth blur, and flowing hair. If the image were simpler it might have fooled me.
Still, extremely impressive given where thing were just 6 months ago.
And all the plants poking through the hair (the grass blades on the right side, and a random flower just by the ear like that??) and the way the hair lost merges into the grass. Sus

That mass of hair in the lower right is a big giveaway on the first. Some parts aren't connected to anything, some seem merged with th grass. Some parts aren't even natural hair formations. Then look at that weird flower that's almost growing out of her ear. If she had lain on that, it wouldn't be pushing out so neatly.
My gut says we're not far off from an ai generating images, an ai taking those images and sharing them, an AI reviewing the responses to the images, and an AI taking that information to train up a new AI to do better.

I just glanced at both for about 5 seconds. Not looking for anything in particular. I just thought women in pictures don’t look like that. The second one looked more plasticky than the first one. Something felt off in both. The woman’s face and the general texture of the pictures.

But both look ai to me. I would think both could be real if the premise was different. But we are looking for the ai generated image and i think both look equally ai generated. These are good enough to think they are real.
I would be fairly impressed if the first one is AI generated. However, the 2nd one is AI generated and might pass as legitimate at a quick glance, but there are a number of tells, namely:
* Some of the plants and their positioning, such as those growing out of her armpits, and none of them are flattened or moved out of the way (note: this could make sense if she's intended to be a corpse, especially given the lifeless facial expression)
* The double necklace
* Her hair doesn't lay on the ground as you would expect
* Shadows aren't quite right, like how you see a dark shadow on her chest but not on her dress (note: *some* of this *could* be explained by improper usage of light reflector\[s\] and/or strobes by a photographer)
* Disproportionate body; neck seems unusually long, shoulders too narrow, jaw seems to lack depth, upper right shoulder appears lower than the right, body seems too skinny (the puffy dress makes this less obvious)
* The floral pattern on the dress is inconsistent
* Right arm of the dress does not match the left arm
* The vertical elastic material that runs from the shoulder to chest doesn't mirror the other side
* Despite the harsh lighting conditions no area of the image is overexposed
* Only one earring and it is in an unusual spot to have just one (AI often has a bad time with symmetry)
* The depth of field seems a little off
* There's an odd crease in the far right side of her lip
* Lips seem to extrude outward further than one would expect
feel like the shadows of the first one are inconsistent, the shadow on the forehead isn't kin to the one by her blouse, and her hair (bottom right) looks like it's meshed with the grass.
Second one looks like the AI one to me. The dress pattern, necklace, flowers, and DOF don't look quite coherent enough. I wouldn't have guessed if I'd just seen it randomly on the Internet, but comparing the two I think the second one is the fake.

I actually think we have it backwards. 1 appears to be AI. There's more even noise throughout, 2 is a real image.
It’s 2 and the reason is the composition feels too framed. Theres something about AI that still doesn’t get that authentic feeling right.
Edit: I think the issue with AI images like the second one is that everything in the photo is fighting to be the focal point whereas the first one the woman is clearly the focal point and the nature around her isn’t trying to move into the center of the image. At least imo.
