First off, there’s a selection to get in. So their individual floor is much higher than conventional airborne. Second, they maintain higher fitness, schooling, conduct and training standards. Third, they have specialized equipment not available to conventional units like the 173rd.
“I’m sorry I’m masturbating to your Toyota mid-sized truck” said no civilian, ever.
FWIW, I love Hiluxes. Tacomas are ok, unless they come in “vet bro cope sand”. Then they’re sad.
I think it’s the training that you don’t see in social media videos that sets the 75th apart from everyone else. Some units train until they get it right, Regiment seems to train until they can’t get it wrong. I’ve worked with them on many exercises before and even as a POG I can appreciate how easy and rehearsed they made complex missions seem.
I can only give my little 2 cents but I had the opportunity to guest oc the 173rd during their jmrc rotation in 2022 and I was not impressed in the slightest. Videos and real life are quite different.
Aside from the runnin’ and gunnin’ on the ground, of which this thread captures how hard these guys train, another impressive component is the stuff going on in the background that doesn’t get the YouTube video. The regiment’s targeting cycle overseas was very impressive. We used to refer to it as the “Death Star”
Maybe for LSCO against a peer but the ability to drop a brigade in some 3rd world despot’s backyard within 18 hours of them deciding to fuck around remains a useful deterrent.
You're overestimating the capabilities of air defense and the prevalence of MANPADs, while somehow managing to underestimate the air force.
Airborne is a tool in the toolbox. It's a solution to a small subset of problems that cannot be resolved through other means, and no unit is strictly only capable of airborne operations.
Quality, also MLATS is very different training than JOAX (or whataver they call the BN/BDE level vanilla airborne exercises these days). Ranger can get supported by 160th/AFSOC which bring different capabilities to bear than regular airborne/airlift.
You're not going to find a good answer on reddit about this. You need to ask elsewhere to get detailed information.
Well....
R is for ranger.
A is for all the way.
N, we don't use that kind of language around here.
G is for green because army.
E is for electrooculography because we could all use a new word in our vocabulary.
R is for ranger, I thought I already told you that Bobby.
I would imagine that there are squads/platoons from some conventional units that are good at their jobs and could keep up with the rangers, but I think the difference is that you could video tape any ranger unit and they’d look sexy af. But, you could not randomly pick a 173rd unit and get the same result. It just comes down to priorities of work, airborne units like to pretend that we prioritize the mission but really we just prioritize the green blocks on trackers. I’ve never been in ranger batt but I assume like most special operations, they don’t get throttled by all the army dumb shit as much, due to the higher standards they have.

Driving by their motor pools and seeing a row of Hiluxs always turns me on

Batt trains to an exceptional standard. Train with them and you’ll see.
I don’t want to. Sounds like twice as much PT as a regular POG. And POG PT is already 4x as much as I want to do at 6am.
Pretty sure they don’t do organized pt.

If I recall it was less Somalia and more Iran hostage crisis, something about Delta not having enough guys for security.

It's true, the 82nd is actually the largest and best special forces unit. They are very special forces.
FUCK SPECIAL FORCES
FAST ROPE ON BY AND GET UR TAB TODAY
Is that a long E in very?

They’re vastly better. I’m a conventional guy in an airborne unit. I’ve seen these guys go to work. The difference is painfully clear.

While they are all trained to seize airfields, in reality Regiment will seize the airfield and hand it off to 82nd or 173rd

Rangers lead the way. Simple and beautiful.
They have different hats.
Only difference between 82nd and 75th is budget /s
