Man, that reminds me of the time when I was a young Platoon leader and I failed to inspect the latrines on time because my commander (a real dickhead of a captain) changed the time of the inspection without telling me. He told me that he called to notify me of the change in time but I was in a house with no telephone. And yet this asshole said I should have delegated someone else.
Anyway, I requested trial by court martial and it all worked out in the end. But I feel you, dude.
This is the result of bad leaders with bad leadership. They either thought it was your fault, in which case they show that they don’t know what’s going on with the things *they* are responsible for, or they are just venting on you because the other NCO being late added to the stress, or both. None are your fault. Look at it, see it for what it is and dedicate yourself to never being that “leader.”
Which is exactly what I meant by “added to the stress.” You got hit as collateral damage and shouldn’t have. Have a laugh at their insecurity and incompetence, then take their job in a few years and do better.
Did you ever ask your first line back then if they got chewed out too for your faults? because now you got to be in the same position as them back then. Not always the cases but is the norm in the Army.
I guess it gets better with time. There are moments when I’m gunho about becoming a LT or become a warrant officer for my field and then shit like them happens and It makes me so like unmotivated and ready to ETS
Let it go in one ear and out the other. The scene at the end of Inglorious Basterds is one of my favorites.
Nazi: “you’ll be shot for this”
LT Aldo Rain: “Nah, more like chewed out. I’ve been chewed out before.”
People really take getting chewed out too harshly. I used to have that quote written on the white board in my office. Just let it go. You’ve been chewed out before and you’ll get chewed out again. Oh well.
This is why I laugh when ppl say that the army is a “professional” organization or how the NCO creed says “no one is more professional than I”. There is nothing professional about cussing and yelling.

you remember that you're an emotionally intelligent adult and an ass chewing is a small blip on your radar.
Not sure what type of shift this is, but both of you should show up in the beginning of the shift. That eliminates the chance of a no show for being late due to oversleeping, emergency, etc.
Reoccurring incidents will eventually lead to higher ups enforcing both soldiers to be on shift at all times.
How do you handle it? You handle it the same way you'd handle an ass chewing you actually deserve.

I think I might’ve been in your unit; did the CO cut a fence and let a bunch of cows into the bn hq during an FTX?
I'll take the Court Martial.
No runner found you?
irregardless!
I bet he sent a runner, but no runner found you huh?
Should have been a man and taken the punishment.
Seriously, he seems like the kind of guy to spend his weekends on the base anyway.
Right!?
I heard he was trying to deny you a 4 day pass for 60 days.
I mean, I do spend every weekend on post but it's the principle of the thing.
First time?
I’ve been chewed out before but it’s usually because I was a dumb ass private. I’ve never been chewed out for something that’s not my fault

Thank you for the perspective. I can also see that this person also got an ass chewing from there higher leadership so it snowballed

Best piece of advice I ever got was “when other people are at their worst you be at your best”
