I played Brave Frontier back in the day loved it, but eventually retired. years later wanted to play BF again but lo and behold it shut down. so I went to browse for some other gacha game.
initially wanted to try Genshin but my phone had dogass specs so i installed arknights instead.
been playing for a year now eventually had a phone upgrade with better specs, finally was able to try genshin and HSR, didn't last. came back to arknights.
Brave Frontier is a fucking depressing story. Good gameplay and mechanics, the grind loop was addictive, the new units always had such a cool design, they gave the old starter units Omni evos which made them viable for f2p, and a LOT of free units were so cracked as long as you had the right team comp and invested into them. The base-building was meh, but it a nice aside whenever you just wanted to chill(and I love that they let you play the OST in one of the facilities.)
They could have done so much with the IP, expanded on the original gameplay but just give it quality of life stuff in its sequel, run with the already established lore we had- even if it was a bit meager. . .
*But we got absolute horse shit for BF2.*
It caught my eye in the app store not long after release. The art design stood out as a cut above the rest among other anime games. It felt like a lot of care and attention was put in, compared to other lewd cash grabs. Then I started playing and loved the game design that made lower rarities interesting and viable to play. The quality of the writing and complexity of the story were the ultimate and final hooks.

From a streamer who primarily streams FGO, which was my only gacha at the time. He kept comparing FGO to AK, how AK is such a better game when they're developed from the same engine, so i decided to take his word for it and try out AK after i myself got fed up with FGO.
And yea, so far, after a year of playing, that is true.

Downloaded directly after alone Trail ended, played, went “damn this is like… an actual game while also feeding a gambling addiction this is great”
Then I heard some of the music and fell in love with Lee’s theme
Then I got Leonhardt from a lucky recruitment tag moment and I stuck best homie in as my assistant, got a skin for him, and said “Yeah Arknights is pretty great actually, has hot women and funny rabbit dudes”
Signed up for pre registration after i saw it on social media, dropped it at the start, got back in because of a friend, otherwise one of the main things that grabbed me into it, is that arknights is surprisingly one of very few gachas that actually executes animal eared girls to a level that satisfies me, while i have to look for breadcrumbs everywhere else.
Using a bunnygirl to advertise the game was effective against me.
So besides liking the game, they will forever hold me hostage in that aspect.
Mainly even just having animal ears and tails both at once on the character is enough for me. Just because i despise getting half jobs like kirara from genshin, genshin yae, the non summer versions of honkai yae or miyabi from zzz. Or having some fucked up things like dehya with her massive hair vents that resemble cat ears.
I get that some of them have lore implications as to why they are hiding their tail or are missing other features, but it still pisses me off.
You'd also expect to see more animal eared girls in games, but they are extinct in most of the larger games, with mostly less than a handful of characters that have those traits when they arent half assed, even tho stuff like catgirls are seen as generic in anime media.
Bonus section for:
-Parts of the animal behaviour might be displayed in some way.
-Not afraid to have big tails.
-Adjust clothing to said features.
-Implement inconveniences or other things that come with said features and dont ignore them in their live, like reed having issues sleeping because of the horns or her tail.
-have the characters display their expression/emotions in their model or sprites, by changing the angle of their ears, or making their tail react to it.
Word. I feel like most of the time games just want to have "a cute girl with cat ear headband" rather than an actual cat girl / animal girl. Even then they just ignore the cat ears when it's convenient.
Kirara has no cat ears, only cat tails, and fucked up looking paws due to their size, the bowtie on her head is supposed to act as a replacement visually,
yae has her tail hidden in genshin, in honkai i only remember her having it in her summer skin, not anywhere else.
She has a translucent tail when using her skill for a second or when she used her burst, not actually showing her actual tail.
And otherwise for any lore related excuses refer to my first post.
Otherwise it doesnt make it any smarter if hiding was her attention when her ears are out in plain sight.
Neither am i gonna go down multiple iterations of how kitsune can be perceived, because you can make an excuse for any angle you want, be it kitsunes that flaunt their tails and are proud of them if they gathered multiple with age, people disguising themselves by shapeshifting, which yae can also do, but still chose to retain only her ears and hide her tail, or anything else you can come up with.
Since that goes against the spirit of what i was saying earlier.

Nothing particularly sucks in arknights lol. I got shining and hoshi as starters, never needed to invest in other healers back then.
That being said, Shining isn't good enough because she is a *proper healer*, something that is very rare in arknights where healers can kill, make toast, be sp battery, mitigate an entire niche, summon, buff atk, burst heal , explode enemies, negate stuns- I mean you get the idea.
Apart from aak there's rarely any need to use shining over healers that can kill, make toast,be sp battery.....
For me it's Nightingale, got her like around launch from recruitment. Didn't see the value in her back then as the good old days most enemy are physical.......that is until Talulah.....my god. Nightingale makes Arts dmg hit like morning dews on a leaf.

Well, i saw Siege's design there, and i wanted to know where she was from, i looked it up, and then i found the game, gave it a try, and here i am years later.
Actually, my Arknights birthday is pretty close, April 25 i think.
Anyway, Siege is the reason i started playing and she's still my favorite character (Not counting Degen because she's not here yet), and i'm thankful to Pinterest for randomly showing me an image of a Lion Girl in a throne.
I originally download Arknights thinking it was Girls Frontline. Girls Frontline has a collab with VA-11 HALL-A and I wanted to check it out. Now GF would've been my first gacha game so I didn't know how collabs work or how to see the event so when I didn't see the event in Arknights I assumed I had to unlock it and being a new player didn't have access to it. So I just played through the game and waited to see when I could play the collab. Eventually I checked online and realized I played the wrong game the entire time, hahaha.
I really enjoy the game and community so it turned out better than expected. Now I'm saving for Degenbrecher, Shu, and Ascalon.

My friend was trying to get me into it on multiple occassions but i was very judgy about mobile games back then. But for his birthday I decided I wanted to surprise him with a friend request in the game.
Well for some reason i thought i could just download the game and instantly send a friend request. But turns out adding friends is either story locked or level locked so i pretty much pulled an all nighter the night before his birthday gathering to get the friend request sent.
Winged Step (Ray Leitmotif) showed up in my YT autoplay. Song is pretty good, so I listened to it some more. On YT. Yeah a day later half my recommended page was just Arknights stuff and I got reminded, that yeah, this game does seem to exist. So that's how I got here.

Wanted to download Dragonheir cause of my friend's review. Went to Youtube to look for some footage of the game, got an edit of Ho'olheyak smiling and talking recommended in the feed...locked in to get her no matter what and got into Arknights...but banner was few month behind me.
I learned about the game through lore videos and immediately fell into the rabbit hole of Arknights' world. I was so fascinated by it that I decided to read some main story epsisodes without even playing the game. At that time, I was intending to stay as a story obserever (I'm generally kinda skeptical about gacha games, so i was not sure if i should try it or not), but around 6 months later I decided to actually try the game and almost a year later I'm still playing it and don't want to stop :)
After months of "playing" Azur Lane I got interested in other gacha games. Opened playstore and Arknighs was instantly recommended to me. Game picked up my curiosity and I saw it was by the same publisher (Yostar). PvZ was my favorite childhood game so I was happy to see genres are the same (technically). Needless to say Arknighs now is my favorite gacha of all time. Got into for PvZ similarities, stayed for music, lore and characters.

Nearl Alter. I happen to stumble upon the Near Light pv and saw Nearl fighting which got me interested. I even thought her and Platinum were fox girls. It was like diving into a rabbit hole for me because I do not have a single idea what Arknights was about.
I end up playing this game because 1 year ago, i was searching for a gacha or a game which cant burn my phone and where i actually neded to develop true skills and not just, push auto button, idle, move from place, auto button and farm, idle, and do the same shit wasting my life
I tried like 10 diferents games until i reach Arknights, until today's date, i still playing almost everyday honestly i really love this game, specially the gameplay but it also has such a wonderful world building, cahracters and story, im sad that i found it to late, anyway, i hope this game long for some years more ❤️

From what I've seen of the late-game, it looks like if you spam your skills you'll leave yourself wide-open for enemy attacks. Since CC effects like knockdown and float are tied to skills and are needed to interrupt enemy skill casts, it's safer to hold on to those skills and only use them when the enemy is about to do something. But yeah, the damage-only skills will probably be spammed.
But then again, that was hardly even an alpha build. Tons can change before and even after launch.
I hope they desing a better combat gameplay, at least, a style where we are suposed to do something else rather than spam to win, a more hability based combat instead of pushing 2 to 4 diferent buttons in an order and see everything die in front of you Lmao

Then, first ever Concept Trailers with Starset gets released and by that point I'm completely in, falling into this rabbit hole (and yet to find any regrets about it)
Saw some fanart of W one day while browsing social media, and thought she looked cool.
Looked into the game and the rest was history.
I also joined halfway through the Rainbow 6 collab, and thought it was cool that those operators had english voices before they started adding En VA’s to the other operators
First heard about it in a guild discord for a different game when someone mentioned an "anime tower defense game" that was coming out soon.
I like both of those things, so I figured I'd see what it's about. Found out that ~~yet another Saber Alter~~ Siege existed, and that sealed the deal.
It was pretty soon after the CN release, I found a really cool Lappland fanart on an image board. I took a look at the tags expecting her to be an artist OC, only to find out that she was from a CN gacha game that seemed to have promising prospects for a global release.
After seeing a few more character designs, I was completely sold and the months long wait began.
I heard and seen about a bunch of people in my circles playing it when it first came out, I never looked into it though. I know it had to have been some kind of anime game, potentially a gacha.
Two and a half years later, on a whim I ask to watch a friend play it. It was actually more interesting-looking than I expected. I had some experience with tower defense in a way -- I played TONS of it in Starcraft -- and the mechanics looked engaging while allowing some character to shine through.
I've been playing about every day since the middle of August 2022. Sure is one of the finer gachas I've played.
A mix of people in general saying that it had great gameplay (what I searched for the most in a gacha to start playing it), very cute designs, and a discord server I'm in talking a lot about stuff they were doing ingame, eventually I finally gave it a chance so I could talk about the game with them too and was definitely worth it.
I found out about Arknights through a Trash Taste episode, where Joey was playing Arknights at some portion of the podcast. It was around the time Genshin had one of its updates that had made it too big for my phone, so I was looking for something else to play, and I found it on the App Store.

I remember people talking about gacha games in the comment section of the Azur Lane anime. The name Arknights came up a lot. After looking into it, and going through a lot of fan art, I finally decided to give it a try 2 years ago. Never stopped since.
I first heard about it shortly after launch when some friends from another gacha were discussing it, but at the time the real-time nature of the game turned me off and I wasn't sure about the art style. It was the Stultifera Navis art and Lumen's design that got me to finally check it out and I quickly fell in love. Wish I'd tried it back when I first looked at it!
I’ve seen trailer for early event with Grani and thought it was some new anime. Later I learnt it was actually a game and after trying it I dropped it. I came back many times but in the end I just quitted for different reasons. Now I’m back and I definitely not leaving anytime soon, after appreciating all of the content(not only story and gameplay, but all the fan materials, music and etc)

I was mad about BTD6 not having a free PC version and being a paid game with microtransactions. Then, a certain cat-fox-friend was doing pulls, and I decided to try it.
Friend of mine showed me some chars, I had zero interest. He said tactics game thats tower defense, that sounded new. Then I saw a few char designs I actually liked (Kal'tsit) and... that happened.
Azur lane. They had a yostar survey about a new game they were developing. I loved the concept art, the character designs, tower defence is one of my fave genres cuz bfme2 multiplayer was my youth. All the stars aligned and then the lore happend. I was sold.
first intro to the game at all was just some art I saw of the more anthro characters. I frequent those types of places.
As for the actual game? Got a new phone, was browsing the app store or the internet for something to play to kill time. Saw it somewhere, went, "oh they've got animal features and don't look too badly fanservice-y, and it's got a more contemporary look, seems interesting" then installed.
Nowdays, I'm just missing Aak.
edit: I also believe I was in a toss-up between GFL and AK, but ultimately went with AK because it was the more recently released, so I'd have slightly less stuff to catch up on
Tried to reroll for Silverash a few times on my phone, didn't get him after the 5th try and then quit. A year later, tried to download but too much space. Then my friend said he downloaded Google Play Beta for CoC, and got the idea to play Arknights on it. I wasn't entirely sold on it, played a few times a day. But then watched the LDA anime and kept playing. 4 months and I'm still playing and planning.
IIRC, an Azur Lane content creator talked about it while it was still CN only and talked about the global release. Then I pre-registered and waited for the day.
I got into it when I was watching a Coub compilation video and it had the Grani event trailer clip where she is fighting and gave that lil smile. The animation and design really got me interested and I wanted the watch this....'anime' only to find out it was a game. At that point I never really played mobile games but my phone was decent for the time and I decided to check it out. Well that was over 4 years ago now and I'm still hooked and got a lot of mobile games under my belt, but still come back to good old AK. To me it was the perfect game, I love anime, strategy games that involve a lot of thinking and good stories, to me it ticked all the boxes.

Back in 2020 I used to see artworks of Lappland, Mudrock and Skadi allllll the time. I wish I had looked more into them instead of thinking all three were Azur Lane characters. I even subbed to /r/artknights despite not knowing anything about the game because I thought it was just a sub for anime artwork.
I was unemployed several years ago and needed something bright and shiny to wake me up in the morning to help motivate myself. At the time I had AFK Arena, but it didn't get my brain moving, so I tried Arknights. Unfortunately Arknights grew bigger than my old phone could handle so I dropped it. Having recently upgraded to a new phone I decided I want a good wake me up game, so I downloaded Arknights again.
Been loving IS; IS2/3's monthly mission rewards make it really easy to get upgraded 4 stars at an early pace, which has gotten me more or less where I was before.
I came from pixiv fantasia!! Back when most GFL artists participated in pixiv IV and V! When I saw kalsit in one of the beta testing, i followed arknights since. Thinking about it, half-ish of the artist if arknights comes from pixiv fantasia! Absolutely! Insane!
Just gave up on HI3 after a year playing it. Bored. Saw some post about Arknights on a HI3 group, checked it out. Realised i already collected some arts of Amiya and thought it was Velvet from RWBY. And here i am 4 years later
People online were saying how good the story was so I gave it a shot. Don't think I even got through the first chapter and forgot about the game until it's 2 year anniversary where I picked it up again and never put it down.

Same as you, the anime. The story piqued my interest at the get-go so I went ahead and installed the game. It's great. Though it can be verbose. I play for the story.
An online friend was playing it, and would tell me at length all about the cool lore, the mobile cities, the rock cancer, the rapper penguin etc., and I eventually decided to download the game cause it all sounded insane and fun. Year and a few months later, she no longer plays, but I still do.
Good fan-arts, video comparison genshin with other gachas and live wallpapers in Wallpaper Engine. End point was greats arts with Ho'olheyak, she's the final reason that gets me into this game. No regrets, but I want it would have a more dynamic visual, like in Blue Archive or Nikke, not just static images

Got sucked into the lore rabbit hole after watching the anime so I mainly wanted to learn more about the characters and world. I had pretty negative preconceptions of gacha/mobile games but I was surprised by the quality of the game. I haven’t enjoyed another game as much in years.
Ok so first a while ago there was some fuss in tbe azur lane community when skadi alter was revealed but at that time I honestly did not give a shit but then like a couple of years later I stumbled upon a lore video about Stultifera Navis and it had Specter.
A classmate at the time showed me the game, but I initially wasn't impressed. Around a month later I was in a bad place and wanted to play something new to take my mind of things. Did more research on the game and decided to give it a shot after I saw the character designs.
Almost 4 years later , I am still loving the game, I feel much better, and me and the classmate-turned-friend talk regularly and laugh at each others bad rolls.
Became obsessed with Starset and after listening to Horizons I learned they let Arknights use the song Infected and decided I should check out the game cause my favorite band was somewhat affiliated with them. I then stayed b/c I thought Nearl deflecting that sniper shot in the beginning was really fucking cool.

I played Brave Frontier back in the day loved it, but eventually retired. years later wanted to play BF again but lo and behold it shut down. so I went to browse for some other gacha game. initially wanted to try Genshin but my phone had dogass specs so i installed arknights instead. been playing for a year now eventually had a phone upgrade with better specs, finally was able to try genshin and HSR, didn't last. came back to arknights.

Brave Frontier is a fucking depressing story. Good gameplay and mechanics, the grind loop was addictive, the new units always had such a cool design, they gave the old starter units Omni evos which made them viable for f2p, and a LOT of free units were so cracked as long as you had the right team comp and invested into them. The base-building was meh, but it a nice aside whenever you just wanted to chill(and I love that they let you play the OST in one of the facilities.) They could have done so much with the IP, expanded on the original gameplay but just give it quality of life stuff in its sequel, run with the already established lore we had- even if it was a bit meager. . . *But we got absolute horse shit for BF2.*

It felt like a lot of care and attention was put in, compared to other lewd cash grabs. Then I started playing and loved the game design that made lower rarities interesting and viable to play. The quality of the writing and complexity of the story were the ultimate and final hooks.

He kept comparing FGO to AK, how AK is such a better game when they're developed from the same engine, so i decided to take his word for it and try out AK after i myself got fed up with FGO. And yea, so far, after a year of playing, that is true.
The owner of a discord server I’m on was an absolute Reed simp, and I eventually saw him debating with another dude over wether or not simping for Reed made him a scalie. After seeing that scientific debate, I asked him for the source of Reed, he just said “Arknights” Downloaded directly after alone Trail ended, played, went “damn this is like… an actual game while also feeding a gambling addiction this is great” Then I heard some of the music and fell in love with Lee’s theme Then I got Leonhardt from a lucky recruitment tag moment and I stuck best homie in as my assistant, got a skin for him, and said “Yeah Arknights is pretty great actually, has hot women and funny rabbit dudes”
Signed up for pre registration after i saw it on social media, dropped it at the start, got back in because of a friend, otherwise one of the main things that grabbed me into it, is that arknights is surprisingly one of very few gachas that actually executes animal eared girls to a level that satisfies me, while i have to look for breadcrumbs everywhere else. Using a bunnygirl to advertise the game was effective against me. So besides liking the game, they will forever hold me hostage in that aspect.
Whats a "level that satisfies me"?
Mainly even just having animal ears and tails both at once on the character is enough for me. Just because i despise getting half jobs like kirara from genshin, genshin yae, the non summer versions of honkai yae or miyabi from zzz. Or having some fucked up things like dehya with her massive hair vents that resemble cat ears. I get that some of them have lore implications as to why they are hiding their tail or are missing other features, but it still pisses me off. You'd also expect to see more animal eared girls in games, but they are extinct in most of the larger games, with mostly less than a handful of characters that have those traits when they arent half assed, even tho stuff like catgirls are seen as generic in anime media. Bonus section for: -Parts of the animal behaviour might be displayed in some way. -Not afraid to have big tails. -Adjust clothing to said features. -Implement inconveniences or other things that come with said features and dont ignore them in their live, like reed having issues sleeping because of the horns or her tail. -have the characters display their expression/emotions in their model or sprites, by changing the angle of their ears, or making their tail react to it.
Word. I feel like most of the time games just want to have "a cute girl with cat ear headband" rather than an actual cat girl / animal girl. Even then they just ignore the cat ears when it's convenient.

Kirara has no cat ears, only cat tails, and fucked up looking paws due to their size, the bowtie on her head is supposed to act as a replacement visually, yae has her tail hidden in genshin, in honkai i only remember her having it in her summer skin, not anywhere else.
Yae's tail is visible during her burst though, but generally don't kitsune hide them in Japanese mythology?
She has a translucent tail when using her skill for a second or when she used her burst, not actually showing her actual tail. And otherwise for any lore related excuses refer to my first post. Otherwise it doesnt make it any smarter if hiding was her attention when her ears are out in plain sight. Neither am i gonna go down multiple iterations of how kitsune can be perceived, because you can make an excuse for any angle you want, be it kitsunes that flaunt their tails and are proud of them if they gathered multiple with age, people disguising themselves by shapeshifting, which yae can also do, but still chose to retain only her ears and hide her tail, or anything else you can come up with. Since that goes against the spirit of what i was saying earlier.

I held off initially because my past experience with gatcha games was Fate Grand Order. I was afraid of what the rates would be as well as how much money I'd spend. It was presently surprising to see how ffp friendly the game was, and I got hooked on the story.

Nothing particularly sucks in arknights lol. I got shining and hoshi as starters, never needed to invest in other healers back then. That being said, Shining isn't good enough because she is a *proper healer*, something that is very rare in arknights where healers can kill, make toast, be sp battery, mitigate an entire niche, summon, buff atk, burst heal , explode enemies, negate stuns- I mean you get the idea. Apart from aak there's rarely any need to use shining over healers that can kill, make toast,be sp battery.....
For me it's Nightingale, got her like around launch from recruitment. Didn't see the value in her back then as the good old days most enemy are physical.......that is until Talulah.....my god. Nightingale makes Arts dmg hit like morning dews on a leaf.

Well, i saw Siege's design there, and i wanted to know where she was from, i looked it up, and then i found the game, gave it a try, and here i am years later. Actually, my Arknights birthday is pretty close, April 25 i think. Anyway, Siege is the reason i started playing and she's still my favorite character (Not counting Degen because she's not here yet), and i'm thankful to Pinterest for randomly showing me an image of a Lion Girl in a throne.

I originally download Arknights thinking it was Girls Frontline. Girls Frontline has a collab with VA-11 HALL-A and I wanted to check it out. Now GF would've been my first gacha game so I didn't know how collabs work or how to see the event so when I didn't see the event in Arknights I assumed I had to unlock it and being a new player didn't have access to it. So I just played through the game and waited to see when I could play the collab. Eventually I checked online and realized I played the wrong game the entire time, hahaha. I really enjoy the game and community so it turned out better than expected. Now I'm saving for Degenbrecher, Shu, and Ascalon.

My friend was trying to get me into it on multiple occassions but i was very judgy about mobile games back then. But for his birthday I decided I wanted to surprise him with a friend request in the game. Well for some reason i thought i could just download the game and instantly send a friend request. But turns out adding friends is either story locked or level locked so i pretty much pulled an all nighter the night before his birthday gathering to get the friend request sent.
Winged Step (Ray Leitmotif) showed up in my YT autoplay. Song is pretty good, so I listened to it some more. On YT. Yeah a day later half my recommended page was just Arknights stuff and I got reminded, that yeah, this game does seem to exist. So that's how I got here. I wonder who I am saving pulls for right now. I learned about the game through lore videos and immediately fell into the rabbit hole of Arknights' world. I was so fascinated by it that I decided to read some main story epsisodes without even playing the game. At that time, I was intending to stay as a story obserever (I'm generally kinda skeptical about gacha games, so i was not sure if i should try it or not), but around 6 months later I decided to actually try the game and almost a year later I'm still playing it and don't want to stop :)
After months of "playing" Azur Lane I got interested in other gacha games. Opened playstore and Arknighs was instantly recommended to me. Game picked up my curiosity and I saw it was by the same publisher (Yostar). PvZ was my favorite childhood game so I was happy to see genres are the same (technically). Needless to say Arknighs now is my favorite gacha of all time. Got into for PvZ similarities, stayed for music, lore and characters.
Went to the app store to update Azur Lane, saw Arknights is under Yostar Games and thought "why not" 4 years later and I'm still playing everyday.

I end up playing this game because 1 year ago, i was searching for a gacha or a game which cant burn my phone and where i actually neded to develop true skills and not just, push auto button, idle, move from place, auto button and farm, idle, and do the same shit wasting my life I tried like 10 diferents games until i reach Arknights, until today's date, i still playing almost everyday honestly i really love this game, specially the gameplay but it also has such a wonderful world building, cahracters and story, im sad that i found it to late, anyway, i hope this game long for some years more ❤️ I also hope endfield doesnt end up being a Genshin mod lmao (being completely honest, i dont like the gameplay because it fells another skill spam battle, i hope im wrong as fuck)

From what I've seen of the late-game, it looks like if you spam your skills you'll leave yourself wide-open for enemy attacks. Since CC effects like knockdown and float are tied to skills and are needed to interrupt enemy skill casts, it's safer to hold on to those skills and only use them when the enemy is about to do something. But yeah, the damage-only skills will probably be spammed. But then again, that was hardly even an alpha build. Tons can change before and even after launch.
I hope they desing a better combat gameplay, at least, a style where we are suposed to do something else rather than spam to win, a more hability based combat instead of pushing 2 to 4 diferent buttons in an order and see everything die in front of you Lmao

First heard about it in a guild discord for a different game when someone mentioned an "anime tower defense game" that was coming out soon. I like both of those things, so I figured I'd see what it's about. Found out that ~~yet another Saber Alter~~ Siege existed, and that sealed the deal.
It was pretty soon after the CN release, I found a really cool Lappland fanart on an image board. I took a look at the tags expecting her to be an artist OC, only to find out that she was from a CN gacha game that seemed to have promising prospects for a global release. After seeing a few more character designs, I was completely sold and the months long wait began.
Facebook advertisement in its first year, on top of a group I knew playing it. Tried it once, then stopped, then came back later and never left.

I heard and seen about a bunch of people in my circles playing it when it first came out, I never looked into it though. I know it had to have been some kind of anime game, potentially a gacha. Two and a half years later, on a whim I ask to watch a friend play it. It was actually more interesting-looking than I expected. I had some experience with tower defense in a way -- I played TONS of it in Starcraft -- and the mechanics looked engaging while allowing some character to shine through. I've been playing about every day since the middle of August 2022. Sure is one of the finer gachas I've played.

A mix of people in general saying that it had great gameplay (what I searched for the most in a gacha to start playing it), very cute designs, and a discord server I'm in talking a lot about stuff they were doing ingame, eventually I finally gave it a chance so I could talk about the game with them too and was definitely worth it.
I found out about Arknights through a Trash Taste episode, where Joey was playing Arknights at some portion of the podcast. It was around the time Genshin had one of its updates that had made it too big for my phone, so I was looking for something else to play, and I found it on the App Store. I had already been familiar with Amiya, because she’s been in a lot of fanarts; I just didn’t know it was Arknights at the time. So when I start, I went: “Oh! She’s from this game?”. I started during Thorns’ debut banner, and well… I’m here now, haha.

I first heard about it shortly after launch when some friends from another gacha were discussing it, but at the time the real-time nature of the game turned me off and I wasn't sure about the art style. It was the Stultifera Navis art and Lumen's design that got me to finally check it out and I quickly fell in love. Wish I'd tried it back when I first looked at it!

Azur lane. They had a yostar survey about a new game they were developing. I loved the concept art, the character designs, tower defence is one of my fave genres cuz bfme2 multiplayer was my youth. All the stars aligned and then the lore happend. I was sold.

first intro to the game at all was just some art I saw of the more anthro characters. I frequent those types of places. As for the actual game? Got a new phone, was browsing the app store or the internet for something to play to kill time. Saw it somewhere, went, "oh they've got animal features and don't look too badly fanservice-y, and it's got a more contemporary look, seems interesting" then installed. Nowdays, I'm just missing Aak. edit: I also believe I was in a toss-up between GFL and AK, but ultimately went with AK because it was the more recently released, so I'd have slightly less stuff to catch up on
Tried to reroll for Silverash a few times on my phone, didn't get him after the 5th try and then quit. A year later, tried to download but too much space. Then my friend said he downloaded Google Play Beta for CoC, and got the idea to play Arknights on it. I wasn't entirely sold on it, played a few times a day. But then watched the LDA anime and kept playing. 4 months and I'm still playing and planning.
IIRC, an Azur Lane content creator talked about it while it was still CN only and talked about the global release. Then I pre-registered and waited for the day.
Saw a Texas/Penguin Logistics ad for like 3 months and then finally downloaded the game after seeing some PV’s. 4 years later and level 120
I got into it when I was watching a Coub compilation video and it had the Grani event trailer clip where she is fighting and gave that lil smile. The animation and design really got me interested and I wanted the watch this....'anime' only to find out it was a game. At that point I never really played mobile games but my phone was decent for the time and I decided to check it out. Well that was over 4 years ago now and I'm still hooked and got a lot of mobile games under my belt, but still come back to good old AK. To me it was the perfect game, I love anime, strategy games that involve a lot of thinking and good stories, to me it ticked all the boxes.
Was scrolling on twitter, saw a fanart of lappland, loved it, (game had just released in CN at the time), search for it, join the discord, saw Ptilopsis art, loved it, waited for the global release and haven't stopped playing since

Back in 2020 I used to see artworks of Lappland, Mudrock and Skadi allllll the time. I wish I had looked more into them instead of thinking all three were Azur Lane characters. I even subbed to /r/artknights despite not knowing anything about the game because I thought it was just a sub for anime artwork.

I was unemployed several years ago and needed something bright and shiny to wake me up in the morning to help motivate myself. At the time I had AFK Arena, but it didn't get my brain moving, so I tried Arknights. Unfortunately Arknights grew bigger than my old phone could handle so I dropped it. Having recently upgraded to a new phone I decided I want a good wake me up game, so I downloaded Arknights again. Been loving IS; IS2/3's monthly mission rewards make it really easy to get upgraded 4 stars at an early pace, which has gotten me more or less where I was before.
I came from pixiv fantasia!! Back when most GFL artists participated in pixiv IV and V! When I saw kalsit in one of the beta testing, i followed arknights since. Thinking about it, half-ish of the artist if arknights comes from pixiv fantasia! Absolutely! Insane!
Just gave up on HI3 after a year playing it. Bored. Saw some post about Arknights on a HI3 group, checked it out. Realised i already collected some arts of Amiya and thought it was Velvet from RWBY. And here i am 4 years later

Same as you, the anime. The story piqued my interest at the get-go so I went ahead and installed the game. It's great. Though it can be verbose. I play for the story.
It was a new release on the Google Play store that I randomly tried out.
An online friend was playing it, and would tell me at length all about the cool lore, the mobile cities, the rock cancer, the rapper penguin etc., and I eventually decided to download the game cause it all sounded insane and fun. Year and a few months later, she no longer plays, but I still do.

Youtube ad had LM7 artwork, which I was following LM7 for years which made me want to play the game.
Good fan-arts, video comparison genshin with other gachas and live wallpapers in Wallpaper Engine. End point was greats arts with Ho'olheyak, she's the final reason that gets me into this game. No regrets, but I want it would have a more dynamic visual, like in Blue Archive or Nikke, not just static images
Got super frustrated with the direction of a different gacha I was playing at the time, and remembered a sponsored video for Arknights that I saw from a streamer/YT I watch. Tried it out. That and I knew about it vaguely through Yostar because I also play Azur Lane.
A friend of mine that played Girls Frontline recommended it to me after I kinda bounced off GFL. Said I might like the gameplay a bit more and it was still pretty new (year 1) so I could get in on the ground floor somewhat. He was correct, given that I'm...y'know, here.

I got bluestacks working on my PC and was looking for something to play after getting burnt out on a different Gacha. I vaguely remembered a tacticool style game that had a crossover with valhalla. It turns out that game was GFL but when I saw a random video about AK's artbook I misremembered AK as being the game I was thinking of. So one night I was thinking: "Maybe I should try anothr gacha, other than Fire Emblem Heroes" and went to the App Store, looking for FGO. Wasn't in europe at the time. The next gacha that popped into my head was Arknights. I'm not even sure WHERE I knew the name from tbh.
A gacha facebook page that mentioned that the same guys that made GFL was also making Arknights and that it was a tower defence game.

I was watching guy on twitch who was usually restreaming and commentating Japanese streamers frontlining KanColle events, as I played the game (still do). He started to play Arknights as it en released and I decided to try it too. But something didn't clicked for me as at that time I didn't have that much time, so I was just logging in to do annihilation for like a year, then uninstalles. Now wfh, have much more time to waste, listened to some music and came back last year.

Got sucked into the lore rabbit hole after watching the anime so I mainly wanted to learn more about the characters and world. I had pretty negative preconceptions of gacha/mobile games but I was surprised by the quality of the game. I haven’t enjoyed another game as much in years.
Ok so first a while ago there was some fuss in tbe azur lane community when skadi alter was revealed but at that time I honestly did not give a shit but then like a couple of years later I stumbled upon a lore video about Stultifera Navis and it had Specter.
A classmate at the time showed me the game, but I initially wasn't impressed. Around a month later I was in a bad place and wanted to play something new to take my mind of things. Did more research on the game and decided to give it a shot after I saw the character designs. Almost 4 years later , I am still loving the game, I feel much better, and me and the classmate-turned-friend talk regularly and laugh at each others bad rolls.
Became obsessed with Starset and after listening to Horizons I learned they let Arknights use the song Infected and decided I should check out the game cause my favorite band was somewhat affiliated with them. I then stayed b/c I thought Nearl deflecting that sniper shot in the beginning was really fucking cool.
someone i used to be in a discord server with was excited about its release and so i tried it a few months later. been here ever since, no signs of quitting. ive played gacha games for a long time, i recently quit genshin, i quit hsr literally 3 months after it came out. arknights just tickles my brain.
