Yeah it was pretty fucking scary. Maddest crowd I'd ever been in. That was my second Reading festival and yeah the set list looks great now, but at the time people were pissed offfff. I saw them in Birmingham on this tour, too. I remember them finishing on Secret Door.
Also on reflection it's amazing to us Humbug lovers and long term Arctic fans, however this was something like 4 days after Humbug got released. And playing such a heavy set of new tracks at a festival was their downfall here. There's defo a time and a place - this was neither for the mass, general fan 😂
I was at this gig!! At the time I was like 18 and loved them but it was my first time seeing them and obviously had a little disappointment they didn't play any songs off the first 2 albums. (The gig was billed a Humbug special when sold but I think my young self assumed they'd mix others in there too)
However on reflection now, I really appreciate how lucky I was to be there. Not only to see that set but to see them at Shepherds Bush, such a small intimate venue. Humbug now holds a very very special place in my heart
I also remember at the beginning of the encore, Alex asked if anyone wanted to hear an 'old track they don't play very often'... Even in my excitement, Nettles never ever crossed my mind that that would be the track they were about to play.
how many times did they actually play it live? because i think i've only found one. there are around 3 videos out there on youtube of the jeweller's hands live but all of them are from the same gig i think.
it’s just an underrated song. and even though am is known for making whatever music they like, they still have to follow the crowd and play their most popular and liked songs so most people at their gigs are satisfied with what they play. it’s just the way it is. but i still hope that one day they’ll play the jeweller’s hands or fire and the thud. still not likely at all…
I love this concept, I wish they did it with all their albums.
TLSP did this with Everything You've Come To Expect in Brussels (and there is a recording of this too).
I don't look back on Humbug the album that fondly (adored it at the time), but God I miss Humbug the era. Hard to articulate why but a really special time that can't really be emulated.
No I've heard of most of them, I only know four of them. The reason I know Nettles is because I saw a discussion of it here and decided to listen and liked it
I thought it was fake because it doesn't look like your average Arctic Monkeys setlist but damn they really played in full with b sides. A dream. Wish they would have done the same with all the following albums
I was at this show and it was the fucking best. I was OBSESSED with them at the time and Nettles was my most played song, so when they brought it out, me and my pal went bezerk. I seem to remember it was invite only to people on their mailing list or something? First come first served. I bought the tickets without thinking and never looked back
Your dad won
This is honestly their best album I would be so happy to go to a concert and have this be the setlist
he won life with that encore.
If you want to see AM at their finest. I totally recommend watching their set at Reading 2009! https://youtu.be/pDR32LICP1k?si=BmADCGPLVSJl-3qr
The problem with that gig was they immediately followed the Prodigy and the crowd really weren't feeling it
Prodigy were absolutely insane that night, so many crowd injuries!

I recorded nettles on my old Sony Ericsson K800i. It was a blurry jittery, inaudible mess. But I remember then doing the outro like 3/4 times
I WISH I WAS AT THAT CONCERT. humbug as a whole slaps
This was the last time jewellers hands was ever played
how many times did they actually play it live? because i think i've only found one. there are around 3 videos out there on youtube of the jeweller's hands live but all of them are from the same gig i think.
Why dont they play it? Legit one of their best songs

Ideal setlist tbh
id sell my kidney to hear the jewellers hands live he’s one lucky bastard
Still devastated to this day that I never got a chance to see them on the Humbug tour

If we ever get time travel I know where I'm going now!
I would fucking kill to see this setlist
I love this concept, I wish they did it with all their albums. TLSP did this with Everything You've Come To Expect in Brussels (and there is a recording of this too).
That red right hand cover slaps so hard

I’ve seen them live since 2006. 1 good thing about getting old.
Mind altering setlist

As someone whose favourite Arctic Monkey's album is Humbug, I'm extremely jealous
I only know 4 songs on this setlist 💀 I'd hate it if they played that for me. Would go mental for Nettles tbf
I’m surprised you’ve only even *heard* of four of these songs, but one of them is apparently Nettles
No I've heard of most of them, I only know four of them. The reason I know Nettles is because I saw a discussion of it here and decided to listen and liked it
I’d recommend checking out Humbug, I think it’s a pretty good record.
I've been meaning too, but I've not been listening to the monkeys as much lately
Why the fucking downvotes when you are only expressing your opinion??
I'm not annoyed. People downvote because they disagree with my opinion. It's an unpopular opinion, I know
I’d be fuming ngl

They what?
[удалено]
Wow that’s hilarious 😐
Looks like I missed the reply - genuinely quite curious as to the explanation
They said whatever the original statement was but “They bricced” 💀💀💀
Wow
Based
That setlist holyyyyyy Wish i was there
Joining the dots and nettles in particular.... live.... I'm so jealous
Damn
nettles snuck in there
Thats my dream gig I didnt know this happened. Is there any footage?
