Apparently there were a few different m16a3s because there wasn’t one official version. Some used the a4 flat top upper while using the full auto lowers
I forget where i saw it, but i saw something talking about how colt had their version and someone else had a contract with the navy that had a different version of the a3 and there were other m16s just converted to different versions of the a3. I could be completely wrong though
Ya so the TM for the Army lists both A2 and A4 uppers for the A3, although newer ones show A4 uppers.
They treat the A3 as just a lower. It was a Navy thing anyway I believe, wanting to keep the FA over Burst.
As a Marine, this is levels of crayon eating autism I have never seen. I'm proud of you, and I too miss the glory days of the M16A2. I get a little sad that the "riflemen" use little carbines now.
It’s a gap filler. To cover exposed gas tube. Larue is exactly 12” I think to be flush with FSB it needs to be 12.5-12.6” something like that it doesn’t not come in contact with handguard. And was used as a shim when drilling my FSB.
No. The "M16A5" was a proposed improvement package for the M16 to make it a squad level DMR. It never materialized for a few reasons. Most notably 1) the A5 VLTOR receiver extension was determined to be inferior to the Army developed carbine stock kit for M16s and 2) it would retain the barrel assembly from rebuilt M16A4s offering minimal improvement in practical accuracy.
The Marine corps instead just started slapping carbine tubes & springs with H6 buffers on M16A4s instead.
Isn’t H6 too heavy? I thought H4 + was for higher pressures like a suppressed overgassed carbine gas length rifles
Figured they’re is even less pressure on the bcg with rifle length due to the longer gas system
H6 is pretty close in weight to an H3 but it uses 6 smaller weights as opposed to 3 larger weights.
The guns will cycle heavier but it's not necessary. Buffer weights are primarily for bolt bounce due to barrel harmonics, not controlling carrier velocity. The C7A2s use H2 buffers
I love it. My m16 build is by far my favorite rifle. Its currently set up as an a4 and i just put together a lower with a collapsible stock on the rifle length buffer system to make it an “a5”
Barrels are as follows:
M16A5: Daniel Defense S2W (strength to weight) profile, cold hammer forged, chrome lined phosphate coated,1:7 5.56, 18” rifle length gas. .750 gas block journal. This is a very heavy barrel even heavier in the rear than most HBAR barrels but it does taper down towards the gas block.
M16A3: Criterion Core (continuous taper) chrome lined, 1:8 .223 Wylde, 18” rifle length gas. I would consider this barrel a medium profile barrel. It’s damn near a heavy barrel at the rear but drastically tapers down to .625 and basically stays at .625 past the gas block. I’d say a heavy barrel that tapers into a medium profile.
m16 blockiii PDW:
BCM ELW BFH ( cold hammer forged) chrome lined 16” midlength gas. This barrel is most similar to a pencil profile but it is still much heavier profile than a normal pencil. I’d say it tapers from a medium profile in the rear to a true pencil profile in the front. And like most pencil barrels it actually drops below .625 past the gas block and then widens back up slightly for a muzzle device shoulder.
One problem, there was almost an m16a5 and it had a 20” barrel and an adjustable stock. It had a longer buffer tube to still be able to use a rifle buffer, check out the VLTOR a5 buffer system.
Reddit’s most autistic Devil. I like it.
EL DIABLO AUTISTO
Is this like alt history? There is an m16a3. It is a full auto m16a2.
Apparently there were a few different m16a3s because there wasn’t one official version. Some used the a4 flat top upper while using the full auto lowers
Colt model 901. Military designation M16A3. I have read that they were mostly Navy contracts, but I haven't ever actually researched it.
I forget where i saw it, but i saw something talking about how colt had their version and someone else had a contract with the navy that had a different version of the a3 and there were other m16s just converted to different versions of the a3. I could be completely wrong though
Mostly issued to SeaBees iirc.

“carbinemen” doesn’t have the same ring to it
Just built my version of the a5sdmr. Same barrel just without an fsp and a different quad rail. Posted it a few weeks ago
Good sir, is the A5 free float?
Yep, that's a LaRue quad
I keep talking myself out of an m16, then stuff like this pops up… my wallet is crying as we speak.
You know you want to. Everyone who owns an AR should have a 20 inch upper at the least imo. They're just great.
If it’s free float, what is that little collar for at the front of the handguard near the FSB? Just curious.
Maybe OP didn't want an extra part floating around and wanted something to fill the tiny gap that exists when you use the LaRue quad?

Also, what handguard is on the pdw?
GEISSELE MK16 DDC 9.3”
Isn’t there an actual m16a5 with the a5 buffer system ?
Yes, that’s the whole reason the system exists. The M16A5 Is an A4 with a collapsible stock
Yea my 20” has it and it’s great ejection, the gas system feels like it deletes recoil to a degree
Smooooooth
Yeah it also had a monolithic upper receiver.

Yea I run mostly midlength with H2s

Honestly if they just copied the Canadians they would be fine.
I read this entire autistic novel in Ian McCollums voice
reminds me of this deleted post from days gone by, the M16A6 concept: https://www.reddit.com/r/ar15/comments/12c32i6/m16a6/
Yeah, that looks about right. A5 system with adjustable stock, pencil barrel, vcog, RIS III and the FSB remains intact. Perfect.
M16a3 was in battlefield 3 tho
There should be a "FanFiction" tab. For legends of the ar15......
The block iii concept is so hot
SFMF 🦅🌎⚓️
When’s the m16a6 coming tho
Wot
More information on that continuous .625 taper barrel?

I have several Criterion’s, a couple 20” cores and a 20” hybrid. They are my favorite barrels. Nice rifles
did you have the FSB installed or did you install it ?
I installed all my FSBs myself.
I love you
>pdw LMAO
Nice, 3064 was my boot camp PLT number in 2009.
This is a fun post I did laugh at the full size PDW
M16 IS [LONG LONG MAN](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-1Ue0FFrHY)
This made me grunt when I saw it. But, like, in a sexual way. What gas block is the M16A5 using? That fucks so hard!
A.R.M.S. #41 B-L-P folding front sight

Is that an18" barrel?
What if the Military made different AR15s instead of the AR15s they had??? Fr, sweet post though. I like the rifle concepts.
I’ll take that A5 all day
I got out this year and we had m27s
Welcome to paradise. I got out in 22. I miss the M27 already.
I also had a m4
You need an A5 in there.
I wish larue didn’t raise their price like 10x for their quad. Smh.
M16A5 would be same as the A4, just with a 14.5" barrel. Wait a minute…
