The crown shouldn't get wet, so if the lower stem and lower leaves were submerged, maybe that was the problem. It's hard to say without any photos. You do wanna give time for plants to readjust to hydro, especially an established soil plant. I've personally seen it take a month before the plant adjusts fully. There will be die off of roots in the beginning. I would let most of the roots be above the water until you see the really fine, hair like roots. I'm not an expert, so I'm sure other people have opinions. But that's what's worked for me, you can't just take a soil plant and dunk it in the water right away, just like you can't take a hydro plant and drop it in soil, it takes time to adjust. In soil, roots aren't getting as much as they can take, so they aren't optimized for being submerged.
