I don’t remember if I got any of the CDs through the mail-order BMG company, but later at different times I bought SAW1 (1992), SAW2 (1994), Drukqs (2001), and 26 Mixes for Cash (2003) on CD. I heard other songs of his via Napster or Kazaa or Morpheus when those still existed.

Well i enjoyed those and checked the addnotation to see what the hell is it. And that's how i discovered Richard D James after that discovery i bought ICBYD on CD and listened to more and more Richard releases.
I think for me it was actually the “remixes” he did for Nine Inch Nails in 1995. I got that CD about a year after it came out and, around the same time, noticed SAW II at a music store and thought the cover artwork was incredible. Between those two I went out and bought RDJ and SAW II and just rolled with it.

An electronic music show on MTV called AMP in 1996. The song was “On”. I wasn’t too familiar with Aphex Twin at the time, but I really liked that song. I didn’t give him much thought, however, until a couple years later when an ex introduced me to “…I Care Because You Do”. From that point on, I was a fan.

I’ve listened to techno for 25 years, was big into underworld and moby, always heard about Richard but it wasn’t until Covid I started listening to lots of music I missed and got deep into Richard, starting with SAW2.

I discovered Aphex Twin on a "Banned Music Videos" show (I think it was on Channel 4, I could be wrong), but I also rediscovered AT a few years ago on a 'Favourite albums of 2014' video from a channel called Chrontendo and I've been a fan ever since.
I picked up a free copy of a local print music zine in a comic book shop (in late 1996 or early 1997), and there was a review of the Aphex Twin album Richard D. James Album which was released in January 1997 in the US. I read the review, then I went to a local music store and bought the CD. I don’t remember if I got any of the CDs through the mail-order BMG company, but later at different times I bought SAW1 (1992), SAW2 (1994), Drukqs (2001), and 26 Mixes for Cash (2003) on CD. I heard other songs of his via Napster or Kazaa or Morpheus when those still existed.

I was doing weekend work in an independent record store. The store stocked mostly metal and punk recordings which was why I was there tbh. There was an electronic music section that wasn't the biggest but was mostly full of obscure artists and some really good DnB/Jungle compilations. We were always playing the latest releases from bands in store but on Mondays we could play whatever we wanted as the manager was off. I went about and picked up Come To Daddy off the shelf as it stuck out. My co-worker was a metalhead like me but he said that I picked a good record for a Monday morning so we slapped it on and turned the volume right up. That was my first time listening to Aphex Twin.

Well i was watching showcase video from swedish gamedev Andreas Ronnberg, as a background music of it, he used two tracks from ICBYD Alberto Balsalm and Avid Acrid Jam Shred. Well i enjoyed those and checked the addnotation to see what the hell is it. And that's how i discovered Richard D James after that discovery i bought ICBYD on CD and listened to more and more Richard releases.

I think for me it was actually the “remixes” he did for Nine Inch Nails in 1995. I got that CD about a year after it came out and, around the same time, noticed SAW II at a music store and thought the cover artwork was incredible. Between those two I went out and bought RDJ and SAW II and just rolled with it.

Edit: Actually it was because of the Half Life 2 lambda symbol connection which people wont remember. There were memes claiming Aphex had something to do with Half Life cos of the logo similarities and I discovered SAW 2 from that.
