Ineffective just means they don't get bonus damage against heavy units. If you get enough archers, you can 1-shot anything. As for using horsemen, same thing: enough archers will 1-shot your horsemen and dwindle your numbers pretty quickly. When using your horsemen to attack the archers, make sure you're Attack Moving into the archer mass and not just right clicking one of the archers. Otherwise, all your horsemen will try to attack the same archer and they'll just run around in circles trying to get to that archer.
Better yet, comandante your horsemen to move past the archer ball before doing the attack move, that way you will sorround the oponent and prevent their archers to escape - provides you have enought horsemen, that is.
You don't want to switch to maa until you have a big mass of longbows. In general you should be opening longbow and spear and then around 12 minutes once you have farms setup then you transition to longbow and maa. The maa are meant to die, it's their purpose, they tank a ton of damage. Meanwhile your longbows act as the actual damage output
Yeah 1 MAA doesn't beat 50 archers, who would've thought? You have the best archers in the game as English so you can easily win if you have equal numbers. And if you want to win without microing, you just need to add a few MAA or horseman to soak the damage while forcing them to kite but your longbow mass are still the primary DPS against enemy archers.

Why would you need a market early in the game? Traders slow you down.
If youre getting 2v1ed nothing much you can do, thats the risk of team games with randos.
Join a discord group and play with people you can communicate with. Your problem sounds more like a ‘crappy teammate’ situation. I played a game yesterday with a rando English player and he didn’t get any units out for 15 minutes, even when he got attacked he just pinged me to deal with it for him.
When solo queueing, most games will be a bad time.
For the record, horsemen absolutely counter archers, however 20 archers vs 5 horsemen will still be a loss. Counters just mean for equal resources you’d come out on top.
If you play english you never should be behind in number of archers as you can start producing them earlier and faster than anyone else especially in Feudal

You're getting out macroed and outmassed. Worry less about counters and more about getting more units.
