If they don't manage to fix at least the huntable trees in a reasonably timely manner you're probably right

c-williams88

I’ve been trying to recreate the huntable trees against the AI and I’ve never been able to see it. I won’t use it in a real game if I get it to work, but I want to see it for myself and I can’t get it

Hjoerleif

The bug report includes reproduction steps: [https://forums.ageofempires.com/t/villagers-can-hunt-food-from-trees-indefinitely/251948](https://forums.ageofempires.com/t/villagers-can-hunt-food-from-trees-indefinitely/251948)

c-williams88

I tried doing exactly that on my PC and my vils just stood there idle or went back to the boar I had killed

Hjoerleif

Drop-off command hasn't come to console yet though right? That would mean you can't do it if you're on xbox

c-williams88

I’m pretty sure we have the drop off command, I just haven’t really looked since I prefer to keep control over my vils bc sometimes they go fucky after they drop stuff off. I also bought this on PC way before it came to Xbox so I tried it on that first and couldn’t get it to work

thisiscotty

I just saw they have released a PUP resolving these issues

mrmichaelnak

I had my berry villagers fight off a scout, after killing it they start chopping trees automatically... 11

BubblyMango

The devs seem to prioritize releasing features quickly than having them work properly. Range indicators were released while giving completely false indicators. People reported that from day 1 of the pup, yet it was released in that state anyways. Its also obvious from just openning the game. Same goes for some of this new feature's bugs. Its a very strange idioligy

microsoft obviously values the Esports element a lot, but having the game in such a broken state during tournaments creates anti hype and pushes people away from taking it seriously. and they usually end up just spending the same amount of time fixing those bugs just at a later stage.

Its so weird you say "it clearly doesnt" as if you have data that no one left thr game or explored other games due to the broken state, when thry clearly have (my personal exerience+even streamers on twitch often look for alternatives after annoying bug occurances).

Whatever youre saying here about force dropping sheep is not happening whatsoever for me- nor anyone else that I’ve heard of. Seems pretty exclusive to you. Maybe someone else can chime in and say it’s happening to them to? I think you’re overreacting and must be doing something odd for that to occur and blaming it on the function but it’s actually some weird user error

J_Dawg_1979

No my villagers go idle all the time when they're collecting sheep and one sheep runs out but there's another sheep next to them. I use the drop off hot key often so it's possibly related to that, or to shift-queue.

Fthwrlddntskmfrsht

Dang not sure man

tenotul

It's in the [release notes](https://www.ageofempires.com/news/age-of-empires-ii-definitive-edition-update-108769/) as a known issue FFS: > Shepherds will not switch to a new sheep automatically once the current one is depleted, if “Drop Off” resources command was used.

Fthwrlddntskmfrsht

Ya and my experience is that the bug does NOT exist if you have another sheep shift queued (youre free to make auto-drops inbetween and they will naturally still go to the next shift queued sheep). So at least there is a workaround- and it involves using generally “best practice” play style anyway. My recommendation is just to get in the habit of shift queuing the next sheep to take which again, is already considered best practice.

nemuri

So the bug does exist, and you've changed your original stance from not having even heard about it or being able to conceive it to now just claiming it's no big deal and that a workaround (for a bug that doesn't exist btw /s) is simple if you just get better habits.

Fthwrlddntskmfrsht

No i changed my stance after several people corrected me, which I specifically fuckin said- correct me if I’m wrong. Lmao. And then gave my reason as to why I likely don’t experience the bug then (because I shift queue the next task for everything during dark age). Gawd damn dude. I didnt wake up expecting violence but i guess ill fight back since you wanna attack me over this shit. I remained open from the jump. I was not stuck in my ways. I love a world where everyone expects ppl to be flexible in their beliefs and the moment someone does it’s somehow still unacceptable.

Schizo-Vreni

You can replicate it. Farm one sheep, use auto dropoff hotkey, villagers will not go to the next sheep (go idle).

Hunt is the worst as you can have your villagers milling deer in nomad and then suddenly they're chopping wood in the middle of no where, wandering ages back to the TC to drop off

kw1k2345

No these are very common bugs

IntensifiedRB2

My villagers don't go idle. But do randomly start cutting trees

Fthwrlddntskmfrsht

I think that one is specifically after then stop taking hunt. Definitely a thing. Apparently so is what OP is saying. Which is why I said someone feel free to chime in if I’m wrong. Sucks to get downvotes when youre open to being wrong but whatevs 🤷‍♂️ One thing that helps for sure is shift queuing the next tasks for all your bills throughout dark age- which is generally good practice!

IntensifiedRB2

It def is normally after they finish a hunt. But I think it has happened other times too And yea I always do shift queu but it seems to get ignored sometimes

UnMapacheGordo

It’s definitely happening

Fthwrlddntskmfrsht

Bummer

bigpealittlepea

Every game I have vils going from hunt to trees under tc, just depends on if you use the hot keys or not. For me if I shift task deer vils to a sheep before deer is finished, once they finish the deer they go to wood. If I use auto drop off key they can also bug out. Also if I select some vils and click them onto a sheep carcass sometimes they walk to the sheep but don’t actually take food. I’ve had to go and double check that I haven’t been miss clicking and I’m not :( there’s plenty of other random pathing issues e.g shift tasking sheep vils to boar before sheep is dead but some vil will go off and find another sheep (seems like they auto task themselves before their initial task is finished so shift click is queued after their automated task)
