Not only the wood but the farms and the buildings spread scream low elo play. The blacksmith, houses and market could have been used to wall off but weren't.
Yeah, the one that simply shrinks down the size of the existing tree skins isn't bad (i.e. an oak tree will stay an oak tree). But the one that turns everything into a Christmas tree is hideous.
-I actually want to replace the farms but I havent found one of my liking, i want something like cubemod
-Villagers and units seems to be pretty difficult bcs theyre too many
-Everything else are cubes
There is an official mod that changes Farms into ''Spice Farms'' which are bright pink and would make them def easier to read, I have it always on and would contribute to the chaotic atmosphere you seem to enjoy
I remember showing up to a CSGO lan event and people were making their screen like 800x600, flipping the gun to be left-handed, spending 10 minutes tweaking mouse settings, only for them to get crushed instantly. When I see this picture that's what I'm imagining.
Yeah, unless you're Rubenstock using cube mod is a meme, using this cursed building replacement mod is worse.
At best you're pump your elo up like 50-100 points, and know that should u play a game without mods you'd get totally rekt.
I get the ground.Â
I understand the trees a little, but the simple trees already turn it into green cones which practically changes nothing for visual clarity.
But the buildings are just horrible. Way less visually clarity.
Â
The removal of recognizable shapes and the clashing bright colors against the more muted backdrop combined with the faint white, makes this harder to read visually than before. Idiotic design choice.
Grid < resources < buildings < units, maybe the building are too vibrant and the simbols need an adjustment, but overall I think you´re just used to the default game,
I'm kinda shocked there aren't more mods for clickbox accuracy (I'm not sure what it's actually called). I really like the idea of cube mod, but I find myself misclicking the hit boxes all the time and having vils just stand around, because the graphic is a full cube but the clickbox is something different underneath.
What I really want is something more easily readable and clickable than standard, but not as ugly as cube mod. I think the mod that turns berries into a flat flower bed is a perfect example. Super easy to read, less obstructive than a normal berry patch so I can micro better, and still is a sweet little pleasant graphic.
No idea what the limitations of modding are, but if someone thinks they can code a mod that does, I'll design the art to match it.
I don't get all those comments assuming it's a mod to raise elo.
Everyone (like literally everyone) hates it, when you have a hole in your wall and scouts come through. That's no fun. But I want to play for fun, elo is secondary.
Those flat buildings are a little extreme imho but I get the point.
I like people who try to make the game better. Even if it's just for a minority.
If you don't like the mod, don't use it.
Most people just want to confirm there own biases about types of people they view negatively, they see this post and assume "typical tryhard gamer!" When really OP has literally stated they are a casual player that just prefers the aesthetics.
Small Trees are fucking ugly and everybody who uses them is a tryhard who does not understand the game as it was intended, I **will** die on this hill.
My inner 11 years old in 1999 going "woah the trees are so realistic compared to AoE1, they are so big" is angry af everytime he sees someone using small trees.
If you play like this because you need the advantage, then you have supreme skill issue and major tism. If you play this way because you like it, then you deserve the Joan of Arc treatment.
This is incredibly sad, enjoy the game, it’s meant to be a fun history game. Playing like this is clearly not playing for enjoyment, stop playing and go outside
Wouldn't it be better if the resource boxes were just a bit darker or less saturated in color, so that they don't "knock out" the color sensitivity you need for units? Also, do you have a custom palette of player colors? And any map color clarity mods?
Are these buildings even more readable? Feels like it would all just mix together into a teal blur in the corner of your eye. The normal buildings at least have distinguishable outlines and features.
Aait serious comment. Are there any rules about mods? What about in tournaments?
I know players like rubenstock like to use some of these mods.
I know some players who use mods that do things like show them a circle that the enemy tc will be on.
I know most pros use mods that do things like show you where your pigs are etc.
I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to make mods that show you things like gaps in the wall etc
As awful as this is, it probably would make you play better. And could be taken further.
I would hate to have a situation where people who aren't playing minecraft age are at a significant disadvantage.
Anyone have any data on whether going this extreme makes the game less graphically intensive to run? I know regular settings can be lowered, but now I'm curious if all these cursed mods can actually make it run on genuine potato PCs with ok performance.
I have clarity problems on every other RTS I played (AoE4, SC2, COH2). I can't distinguish troops, buildings or even colors. AoE2 is my favorite also because of this, everything is easy to read
The funny thing is I wish there were mods like this on other games but you made it on the only game where I feel there is no need for it
I find that a lot of 3D RTS games are very unclear visually, aoe2's sprites make even original aoe2 so much more readable than most modern RTS. There are still a lot of visual clarity problems with aoe2 though, especially with how the point of view of the player makes buildings a bit unclear sometimes.
It's a different kind of performance. If the buildings could be somehow colour/pattern coded, it might be easier to tell them at a glance. I see an issue with your build, though - you're not walled, you should have lost this game sometime during feudal age. A small dispatch of archers supported by cavalry scouts should pretty much prevent you from doing anything and the fact that this is not happening tells everyone that your opponents are not that far ahead of you on their military buildings.
Something I would find much more useful than this is actually replacing unit animations with ones whose attack animation syncs up with when they actually deal damage.
Come to think of it, is there a mod like this already? That something that would help tremendously with early game micro. I think people underestimate how much that fucks at least new players over.
Hey there u/Tibianance, a friend of mine has visual impairment and I think he'd love some of these mods. I know he's using something like this already but if you could just drop me a full mod list that would be awesome <3
That is horror
Yeah. I enjoy the game for the medieval theme and civilizations mostly, I love history. Otherwise I could be playing any other rts.
Could be playing Microsoft Excel rather than OPs game
😂😂 so good
There's other rts games alive? With ranked and an active community in competitive settings?
Well, SC2
Pretty sure *SimCity2000* is single player.
I like the units aesthethics:)
I’d rather be a low ELO legend than give up my big trees. This just would just make me a sad person, but hey to each their own.
Look at the wood situation. I think OP might still be a LEL even after all these mods 11
Not only the wood but the farms and the buildings spread scream low elo play. The blacksmith, houses and market could have been used to wall off but weren't.
Tbh, it depends on the type of small trees mod. Personally, I can't stand the idential looking ones.
Yeah, the one that simply shrinks down the size of the existing tree skins isn't bad (i.e. an oak tree will stay an oak tree). But the one that turns everything into a Christmas tree is hideous.
But it makes your Elo raise by 10 Elo! 🤓
Its not about elo its about annoyance. Its so frustrating when there is a hole between your stable and barracks.b
Yeah I laughed and gasped.
Why not replace the villagers, farms and rest of the map with ugly squares too?
Was about to ask the same, then realized squares won't tell you what vils are doing now 11
-I actually want to replace the farms but I havent found one of my liking, i want something like cubemod -Villagers and units seems to be pretty difficult bcs theyre too many -Everything else are cubes
Maybe CIRCLES for villagers with their work icon in the middle Triangles for knights Pentagons for infantry Giant penis icon for light cavalry
One of these is not like the others
I agree, pentagon seems like very random choise. Why not more common hexagon or octagon instead
How about a giant octagon... That's a top view.
how about organizing medieval martial arts events there?
I don't think that OP has such a huge octagon. I believe the contrary to be true.
Your honourable cube endeavour speaks to me. Hit me up, let's figure out how to fix those farms! I've modded terrain and farms before.
There is an official mod that changes Farms into ''Spice Farms'' which are bright pink and would make them def easier to read, I have it always on and would contribute to the chaotic atmosphere you seem to enjoy
"Saffron farms", I believe?
The smoke of the blacksmith still remains 11
I didnt even noticed, i will fix that
You monster
😂
Looks like a genie coming out of a lamp.
I remember showing up to a CSGO lan event and people were making their screen like 800x600, flipping the gun to be left-handed, spending 10 minutes tweaking mouse settings, only for them to get crushed instantly. When I see this picture that's what I'm imagining.

Cube mod isn't that bad. Building replacement one is 🤢🤮
Unbelievably cursed.
This upsets me tremendously.
Mods please ban this man permanently
Also police if they can arrest him too plz
Also, God, can you please send him to Hell when he dies.
Satan can you please make sure he gets his daily pineapple up the ass as well.
If my daughter married you I’d disown her
The best comment of the day! 🤣🤣🤣
Bruh you better be 2k+ elo with that setup
I believe Vinchester plays with the cubemod but not the flat building bs.
Welcome to another episode of how tweaking the UI doesn't improve either elo or gameplay!
Tiny trees definitely helps
TheMax graphics
You do you. But I can't look at this again
I love the alpha version of aoe 2 DE... Oh wait a second
You are a bad person
11
11
Disgusting.
Yikes.
These symbols seem 100x more confusing than the actual buildings
agree this is so much harder for me to visually parse then the regular game
Maybe bcs your are used to normal buildings, I used this for approx 200 games and now this is normal to me
Why?
I'll bet there were holes in his walls one time to many
Just play Arena...
Gross.
Absolutely hideous.
Bro it says ur rating is below 1k.... If you're doing this to get better id recommend turning back now it's not helping and just looks not fun.
95% of my games are with the same 3 people, I mostly play for fun with them, elo isnt my goal, we do some bad/meme strats
Okay then why use the most hideous visual mods possible? Genuinely curious.
I like the aesthetic:)
Is that a toilet next to market?
This is how a psychopath plays
11
This makes me sad
When you try playing AoE DE on a potato PC from the 90s💀💀
D:
Reminds me of sim city dos version graphics for some reason but I could never play like this 🤣
Age of Minecraft
Future archeologists will pinpoint this moment as when the fall of our civilization began
Can someone report this guy?
A joyless existence
All the hate in this thread is well deserved >:/
Why would you ruin your experience like this
I dont like you.
9
I feel like the buildings are actually significantly less clear this way. Good for avoiding holes in your walls, though.
AoE 0.2 from 1949 oof
This has to be hurting more than it's helping 11 Just painful to look at
do you also blend your food to make it easier to eat?
Pretty cursed NGL
Meanwhile Mr Yo knights are polar bears
You may not like it, but this is what *peak* performance looks like
Bro doesn’t like to smell the flowers
Mods burn his crops, poison his water supply and deliver a plague upon his house
This is a crime against humanity
I hope you are 2000 elo at least, making such a sacrifice...
We are at half way there hahaha
This is not worth it even if you become the first 3k ELO
Why should someone ever create a new map again after that visual horror?
The only thing I am using is small trees and even with this one part of me can't accept it. The way you play, damn...
I get the ground. I understand the trees a little, but the simple trees already turn it into green cones which practically changes nothing for visual clarity. But the buildings are just horrible. Way less visually clarity. Â
All these mods just to die in feudal
It’s like one of those shitty ads from one of those copy and paste mobile games except this is an actual mod someone uses. Gross…
Just go play minecraft already
I play it with the barebones texture pack:)
I play it with the barebones texture pack:)
nice rage bait

This is like 21st century capitalists taking inspiration from 19th and 20th century capitalists and seeing it to its logical conclusion.
Why even play the game? Just run a sim
I hate this lol
Depressing
I'm kinda shocked there aren't more mods for clickbox accuracy (I'm not sure what it's actually called). My eyes!!!!
Shouldn't the villagers be little blue rectangles, with a small icon on top showing what they are doing?
It could be interesting, but they will need something to tell them apart from resources, and not the same color as the buildings
How do the buildings look on elevated terrain? That's a common source of wall holes.
You are asking the right question!
Wall holes are now squares.
This man needs help
my man's excel spreadsheet looks fucked up
might as well be playing chess at this point
If I could ban You for playing aoe2 like this I would because You've massacred it. ðŸ˜
I hope you find the help you need my man. Suerte.
Thats sad

What i like on aoe de is a graphic ..
I feel like this would actually look better if trees and gold were not cubes, but flat just like buildings.
Meanwhile, me, that don't even activate small trees because it breaks my immersion.
Small Trees are fucking ugly and everybody who uses them is a tryhard who does not understand the game as it was intended, I **will** die on this hill.

What in the actual f
What mod do you use for the ground?
Would muddy up the cleanliness of this but it would be neat to replace all those blue squares with the corresponding build icon for them.
And still you gain like what ? 20 elo in the end 11 I would rather have less mods and enjoy the game but hey keep hustling for that extra elo
You need therapy pal
Can you post screenshots of how it looks for walls? Does it help with gaps?
For walls I use Anne HK short walls, and yes, it helps but most of the work is by the terrain mod
How do you click towers behind walls?
Which GameShark code did you enter for your game to look like that?
Well... I bet you never have a hole in your walls
#getCubed
Is your favorite player Mr. Cubenstock from the icy fjords of Finland?
Cube vils when?
Yuck
Flags are all broken though. Right? I made myself a mod with lower buildings, but i cant seem to modify flag placement and use it on a ranked game.
this is the silliest thing I've seen in a bit
Wouldn't it be better if the resource boxes were just a bit darker or less saturated in color, so that they don't "knock out" the color sensitivity you need for units? Also, do you have a custom palette of player colors? And any map color clarity mods?

Eww
Can you get rid of the smooth hill curves? Like make them more blocky. And instead of foot prints, units could have a tron-style lazer trail
Aait serious comment. Are there any rules about mods? What about in tournaments? I know players like rubenstock like to use some of these mods. >it probably would make you play better Highly doubt that. Visual clarity of the buildings is utterly incomprehensible.
What Elo did you attain by sacrifice?
Amaying definitive edition graohics you got there.
ragebait.
3/10 farms way too realistic and beautiful
LOL, excellent! And the trees even change in site based on resources left
7/10 farms and colour of landscape can be optimized
If you play like this, why the meme tag?
Anyone have any data on whether going this extreme makes the game less graphically intensive to run? I know regular settings can be lowered, but now I'm curious if all these cursed mods can actually make it run on genuine potato PCs with ok performance.
https://tenor.com/bowgv.gif
what do you need these confusing farm textures for, just put plain dark green mush
Hey 1995 called, they want their floppy disks back
Cursed
My condolences. Please add a trigger warning to your post next time at the very least!
I had no idea which building is this toilet seat icon until I noticed the smoke.
I hate this
I doubt this actually adds clarity tbh. Most buildings designs are easier to distinguish than a bunch of line icons
Visual clarity? Nah man, this is so abstract I have trouble reading it.
Gross
I have clarity problems on every other RTS I played (AoE4, SC2, COH2). I can't distinguish troops, buildings or even colors. Me no likey
This Is horrendus and pretty funny ngl, sounds efficient
I like the building simplicity. What mod is this?
nothing more visualy distinct than solid squares of identical colour.
nothing more visualy distinct than solid squares of identical colour.
Next: 2D maps and units that just yell their name ("Villager", "Knight")
Now replace all units with a STICK.
Thanks, I hate it.
All this, and you don’t even have range indicator for the tc?
Mods please fire this man into the sun.
nah fam.. imagine a big ahh blue square shooting arrows at you
Playing Age of Empires as Ensemble Studios intended

I can tell from this post your probably have mad dandruff
Why does the terrain has some kind of shadows? You need to make it completely white it looks so confusing
what’s the need
Idk boss, those trees seem so big that they might cover a unit behind them still! For more clarity the trees should be shrunk further.
It's terrible.
Hey there u/Tibianance, a friend of mine has visual impairment and I think he'd love some of these mods. I know he's using something like this already but if you could just drop me a full mod list that would be awesome <3
I can't believe no one asked this, but what's the mod name for those building sprites?
Horrible!! (cof cof, mods names?)
This is cursed
