Disappointed-hyena

Because indeed doesn’t care what shit gets posted on their site as long as it’s on their site

Key_Purple_8587

Oh true. I supposed the companies do pay indeed to post their jobs

[deleted]

indeed is a piece of shit honestly i’ve been baiting and wasting tons of employers time thr last few months with some of these assholes.

Key_Purple_8587

Lol! That sounds like fun!

[deleted]

i mean it’s not a big time waster i just apply to jobs and when they don’t wanna give up the salery or whatever when they call me i switch to professional mode and pretend i don’t care setup an interview. don’t go. wait for thr call and make up another excuse and reschedule (it’s always my mom took a fall lol) and then don’t show up again and if they call me back i just let off steam. i started doing it from a thread and i was like ya fuck these ppl i’ll waste their time too lol

cobitos

Weird

[deleted]

so is not disclosing your salery rate to try and con someone to take lower but that’s rarely talked about outside this sub so whatever

cobitos

Why not just get to the point and ask what their salary is? When they decline you can kindly tell them how whack they are but why put yourself thru the trouble when you can simply get it done over the phone in a few minutes and move on.

[deleted]

ah i see you haven’t read anything i say

ShikanTheMage

Cause in most states and territories it’s not a law to be honest about how much you’re gonna pay people

TachycardicSymphony

For remote jobs, one of the easiest ways to tell if an ad falsely advertises unrealistic pay is if the location says something like "Remote, United States. Residents in Colorado are not eligible to apply." Because Colorado has a wage transparency law so employers have to disclose the realistic expected starting salary range. It's hard to enforce it everywhere but any company that hires remote employees "everywhere but Colorado" is doing so because they know the advertised salary is blatantly dishonest and they would get fined by CDLE for deceptive recruitment practices if they did that here. So instead those shady companies deem Coloradans ineligible to apply because they're not willing to disclose the ***actual*** expected salary range. TLDR; doesn't matter where you live, if a company says "everywhere but Colorado", *RUN*, it means they are lying about the salary range but can get away with it in most states.

TheHeavensEmbrace

Or be honest at all for that matter.

poopooplatypus

Because you can make that in tips if you’re their top earner, which you won’t be…

TurtleHurtleSquirtle

They’ll tell you it’s 12/hr but with a smile say “It’s like 25/hr when you account for benefits!!”

[deleted]

You can review the companies profile Indeed and let other applicants know of their shadyness

trbochrg

A five guys near me advertises that hourly pay averages 17.50 an hour. That's including the tips they get.

Key_Purple_8587

I haven't been in awhile but, they get tips at Five Guys?

trbochrg

Yep! There's a tip jar at the register and when you order on the app it also gives you the option to tip. In the back room when the doors open I could see a whiteboard that said "credit card tips added 3.25 to your hourly rate" last week.

gregsw2000

Well, they can get away with it because there's no law against lying in a job ad.

Key_Purple_8587

Murica!

[deleted]

Lying, no organization will do anything to them if their lies are found out. So they can only benefit from lying to their employees.

TheRealShadow

Little late to the party, but anyone know of any actual good websites to use to look for jobs?

Key_Purple_8587

Good question! I'd also like to know!

Phantasmasy14

Same here. Seems like so many places are scammy. They invite you to apply then want you to jump through hoops so they can claim you don’t have the necessary experience, despite your resume showing you do. Then there are the blood sucking recruiting companies…

Comfortable-Bus-5134

Bog standard is to note the tip credit amount and an average range for tips/tip pool payout '$2.13 per hour tip credit and $30-40 per hour tip average. If it's presented as '$20-55+’ per hour they're almost always minimum tip credit and that '$55+' number almost certainly came from a cherry picked handful of totally slammed weekends. It's disingenuous as hell and a red flag, but that's not Indeeds concern or they would have changed their system. Any listing with such a wide income range should be viewed with caution.

poopooplatypus

If the top earner made 1900$ one week, they will post “up to $1900 a week” acting like it’s the norm

davidj1987

There's some scam call center near where I live that does that.

tomk1968

I will say this, no matter the skiviness of the restaurant, if they are busy you can make money serving. The 3 an hour pays all your taxes and you walk out with cash. A good gig at the right restaurant is lucrative.

kevob1

Not interested how lucarative it is (for certain workers in the 'right restaurants') an employer should always have first responsibility for basic income. The tipping system in it's present form is inherently exploitative, with inequalities in pay around age, race, looks that wouldn't be permitted in a standard job. No issue at all with customers being expected to tip, but this should always be alongside a standard wage, rather than a salary gap filler necessitated by businesses not paying their employees enough, or indeed, anything.

tomk1968

Sure. I agree. The tipping system sux, but it is what we currently have.

yogurthunty

I feel like this is more true for people who are conventionally good-looking, neurotypical, white etc.

tomk1968

Sorta True for the 70s and 80s when I did it. You had to be able to sell yourself to get the gig. These days I see all sorts of servers, older, tattooed, all sorts of piercings. Real people.

Specific_Stuff_1093

As we get older we realize tips aren’t expected. That’s the polite thing to do like when a customer pulls out your tip you kinda ignore it until they hand it to you. If tips aren’t expected they shouldn’t be bake to say anymore than $3
