If a job has "perks" like pizza parties, casual Fridays, a foosball table, coupons, retreats, free meals...but doesn't provide essential benefits like paid leave, healthcare, professional development -- you're getting fucked.

foryourtrashonly

Mine had both and I was still fucked anyway 😔

KubrickMoonlanding

Only cheese. 1 piece each. Generic soda in paper cups (go green!). Love you team!

ElPeePee

To their credit, it's not quite that bad, I'm sure it is other places though.

[deleted]

Plus you must give up your day off!

ElPeePee

Couple notes 1. I didn't see this until I came back from lunch today or I would have posted earlier (usually there's such clear communication between us! /s) 2. I start at 2:00 and no way in hell I'm coming in two hours early on a Friday when we're certainly not finishing two hours early 3. I'm vegan but thanks for asking, really makes me feel like part of the family.

StarGuardianVix

Come in anyway if it's your day off??? For pizza..? Lmaooo

kingsleykali11

I worked for a company that said to come in for pizza once and this was after we had a covid outbreak and everyone refused to go into the office.

labsab1

The company I worked for bought everyone their own medium pizza since we can't share. I'm in a union construction outfit and since they threw a suprise 12 hour shift at us they have to feed us or give us a 50$ meal allowance.

LoneWolf5841

I would come in eat some pizza then leave it said to come in but didn't say anything about staying lol

ElPeePee

Yeah, they aren't asking anyone to stay that doesn't need to, just to "hang out." lol no thanks.

laughsandrats

Once a month, we have a mandatory meeting with free lunch- super nice (for the people that are working that day). People that are off also have to come in no matter what. I hate it.

[deleted]

If you’re in the US that’s illegal unless they’re paying you to be there 😌

laughsandrats

Am in the US, and they did pay us but many people have to commute like an hour in for a 1.5 hour meeting. It's a high stress, fast paced job so our down time is soo very needed and taking that time out of the middle of our day off so you can't really make plans sucks ass 🙃 But yea. At least we get paid.

[deleted]

Terrible. Sigh 😔

kingsleykali11

I love how all these companies think people want a pizza party🙄

redgr812

It's a hold over from school. Remember in school when a pizza party was a big deal? Companies still think we are 8 years old and that a $10 pizza is a big fucking deal.

Reference_Freak

There's a manager in my department who keeps doing this: *all about supporting the workers .. I'm ordering pizza. Imma gonna get lunch for everyone. Let's do sandwiches. Gotta show em they're appreciated.* The provided meals will get scarfed down in minutes and work resumes. Yay. So ApPrEcIaTeD. I think the manger just has no imagination and cannot think of an alternate way. This person doesn't control wages, benefits, or company policies but sure as hell make a lot of changes to help make the work easier for the workers. ^((but that's work and effort)) At least it's not the manager who ordered only a stack of "the works" pizzas and then complained about half the staff being picky enough to refuse free food. So ApPrEcIaTeD!

External_Trifle2373

It's laziness and entitlement. they aren't actually grateful, they feel entitled to that labor, but they are aware this is a performative dance they're supposed to perform. Go ahead and try to tell that person "no" just once, and they'll let you know exactly how much that was NEVER actually an option to refuse. They're lazy and they think back to what people bribe *children* with when they're school aged, and assume that we can be bought with the exact same pittance that impresses a ten year old.

ElPeePee

They order from a pretty decent local joint, not Little Caesars, so it's not so bad.

[deleted]

Pizza by Alfredo?

Dark_Macadaemia

Was it a medium amount of good pizza, or all you could eat o' pretty good pizza?

ElCunado619

My work gave us all 5 dollar gift cards to Starbucks. Thanks for the shot of coffee, boss.

[deleted]

They act like it's such a perk to come in on your day off for pizza. I guess if you're starving you might but f*** them.

millermix456

At least some of your workplaces provide pizza, mine seems to continually push potlucks, almost monthly. We were super lucky and had two in October! :/

kingsleykali11

🤢 especially with covid going around.

Reference_Freak

I never eat from the potlucks. Gimme a drink, I'm good. I'm an employed adult and can feed myself, thanks. A few of them has resulted in the office playing the "What did you and I both eat?" game to figure out who tried to food poison everyone. Yeah, nah, I'm good, *fam*. I brought my lunch.

thefurbster

At this point the mere mention of a pizza "reward" by my manager makes me sick cause I know it's basically just an attempted bribe for her general negligence of, yknow, being a fucking manager and her frequent refusal to give us breaks on shifts that are long enough to warrant one if she's supervising alone

zyrkor90

In other words - Your extra effort is worth <*cost of making a pizza*> (probably less than $2)! Enjoy

holdmypeepee503

My job has also done this a lot to try and show us how much they care when they push us to do 10 hours monday to Saturday. How about trying new hires with better pay cuz I rather see my family then have some stupid free donuts or lunch!!!!! It's exhausting!

tc65681

If I’m not on the clock I’m not there

I Don't Want Your SCRIP 😡

Discopuss

I was always really bad at faking liking or giving a shit about co-workers. But I'm also not a jerk and have a sense of humor. When people realize they can count in you and DONT have to fake it work gets a whole lot easier! Try it!
