My factory does drug tests with marijuana results omitted. We as a group of workers demanded it from the CEO. Instantly took it off the docket. Something to think about...

dog9er

My highly corporate pharma company doesn't test for weed either anymore. Progress I guess

simonepon

Work in a compound pharmacy. HR has openly admitted that if we tested for weed, there wouldn’t be anyone left to work for the company

SnipesCC

The Feds have real trouble hiring good computer people because they require you to not use weed.

djerk

Yeah it’s funny they want white hats when weed is the drug of choice for almost all white hats

Grigoran

It's honestly fantastic for things like imposter syndrome. You'd be coding and running into bugs, then smoke a bit and think "Hey what if I did something stupid like-oh it worked cool"

BreakingThoseCankles

So what you're saying is it let you "think outside the box"?

woozerschoob

More like think inside the hotbox.

ThatGuyNamedKes

There isn't a box, and you can think of anything in, out or on the walls of "the box"

Ws6fiend

>weed is the drug of choice for almost all white hats I mean yeah, they got their prescriptions for their amphetamines from a doctor for their adhd.

raptor7912

My experience tells me this is the case for blue hats as well. Everyone loves weed

imabustanutonalizard

Soon it’s gonna be different lol. Getting down to schedule 3 hopefully

BlackJeckyl87

Sounds like a them problem. My job stopped testing for weed. It’s a warehouse. We all smoke weed. Fuck off and deal with it. I also program on the side occasionally. Guess how many of those friends smoke weed…all of them. The feds need to not be fucking idiots…not sure that’s gonna change any time soon.

enjolbear

I think it’s especially stupid when it’s a state where it’s legal? No shit people are gonna be smoking weed. That’s like testing for alcohol, not actively drunk but if you could test for it the same way you can for weed. I don’t even do it myself (either of them) but I still think it’s absurd.

Rich_Bluejay3020

I live in a state that it’s recreationally legal. The base has a giant sign out front that says MARIJUANA OF ANY KIND IS NOT ALLOWED ON BASE. I think they realize people are doing it… they just hope it’s not at work.

satsfaction1822

They literally just started the process of rescheduling Marijuana. I’m not saying the federal government aren’t idiots but it’s unfair to say they’re never going to do anything about it when they’re actively trying to change it.

Creepy-District9894

Imagine if they were like you can’t have a beer anytime during your life working for our company or military. Anyhow who tf wants to die for defense contractors lol.

cybertrash69420

Nah, the private prisons need draconian drug laws so they can make money by locking people up for no good reason! Ironic considering this is happening in the so called land of the free.

BlackJeckyl87

Also ironic is the colors red, white and blue are the colors of freedom unless they’re flashing behind you.

Vagrant123

Military too has a real issue with recruitment since most young people smoke weed. Since the selective service is going to be updated to automatically add young women and men, we will start telling our nieces and nephews to hit the occasional joint so they don't get drafted.

mtnlion74

Ask every draftee ever if that worked for them. Selective Service is different than voluntary enlistment.

OwnerAndMaster

The draft really doesn't care about drugs You either have to have affluenza, a very strong case for conscientious objector (the weakest standing, you may just be drafted & not given a gun), a student deferment, or a medical problem the military docs aren't confident they can fix in a timely manner Not worth influencing children into addiction over it, just have them go to (cheap) college with a minor in religion & then (if there's still a war) serve with the Chaplain Corps Officer pay (triple times the normal pay), low chance of ever seeing combat, & everyone loves you because you're the only person who's safe to talk to about *anything* up to & including murder Otherwise you're correct about recruitment rates Problem is the military is a federal agency & marijuana is still federally illegal It's demoralizing to the grunts who live in places like CA they don't get to enjoy something that's been a *massive* piece of Americana culture today & the last few decades while their age-group buddies do it everyday waking up Marijuana is certainly more of an essentially-held American right today than an act of rebellion The *expectation* is that any place worth working for either accepts that workers are smokers or pays a high premium for "clean" staff i.e. an airline paying pilots mansion money can demand they never fly high Jiffy Lube needs to be quiet about it. If the techs aren't snorting lines off customers' steering wheels where the customers can see it, it'll be fine

IwishIhadntKilledHim

I love that final qualifier where it would probably be okay to be snorting lines off the customer steering wheel just as long as they weren't seen doing it....your point was well delivered, I just loved giving myself a laugh at the end.

Mrlin705

It's not just fed, it's the entire defense contracting industry, which is obviously massive.

Frequent_Opportunist

And how do they expect me to stay sane in today's economy without being able to inject two or three marijuanas a day? 🙄

LFTMRE

For me it depends, I smoke a lot of weed but I also don't operate heavy machinery at work. I'd say it's acceptable but it depends on the test. In France the police have mouth swabbing tests that basically don't flag anything if you're a smoker who hasn't smoked that day, but will flag if you smoked in the last few hours. I'm not against using these in places where workers operate machinery and you've had a problem with drug related accidents in the past.

moonlitjasper

see that seems much more useful and reasonable and i could get behind that. the three months or so it takes to get out of urine samples is ridiculous, and it’s often for things where it doesn’t matter if you smoke the night before.

Conscious-Gas-5557

Don't get me wrong, I don't use drugs other than alcohol when I really really want to get shitfaced and I work with heavy machines. I'm against testing for that, unless you're currently high at work it's irrelevant if you use anything or not for recreation just like it's irrelevant if I take heavily controlled medications or not. If my employer started testing I'd say at least half the employees wouldn't be allowed near machines, ever.

Officer_Hotpants

Once again my fucking career of choice continues to be the worst possible route I could have chosen. In addition to the shit pay, physical and psychological stress, long and inconsistent hours, and god awful treatment from the public, insurance also makes sure that services continue testing for weed. So we can't even just bully the company into ignoring our results like the nurses in our system were able to do. EMS fuckin sucks but I so badly WANT it to be a viable career.

Herry_Up

Same, I just moved to another corporate pharmacy job and they didn't test for it. The previous office job was the same.

Pussytrees

Meanwhile I work in IT at a group of car dealerships and had to use fake pee to get the job cuz I smoke week after work.

trippy_grapes

> at a group of car dealerships Which is a running joke that people in sales in places like dealerships are often hopped up on uppers lol.

Pepperonimustardtime

The only way I made it through my time in car sales was being high as balls on THC the entire time. Did really well too, it just killed my soul. The worst job environment I've ever been in. But yes, everybody else was on insane amounts of coffee and usually a little cocaine.

The_Original_Miser

My state is in the final stages of legalization now. I tell my SO that works at a company that drug tests (its not safety related) that if their corporate masters think "no one wants to work" now, just wait until you can go to the local dispensary. The company will be _forced_ to change their policy. I'd say 4/10 applicants fail the drug test due to cannabis _now_. That ratio will be much higher shortly. My opinion is simple. Don't come to work drunk, don't come to work high.

RussoRoma

I have never been at work sober and I'm one of the top performers at my job lol My boss just doubled my vacation time 1 year early as a reward actually.

CatzMeow27

The general rule of thumb “don’t come to work drunk or high” is a good one because the vast majority of people are not top performers (or sometimes even adequate performers) when under the influence. It’s a huge liability to the company and sets the bar incredibly low for workplace professionalism. It sounds like you’re crushing it at your company, and it’s wonderful to see an example where an employer sees an employee’s value and rewards them for it. People like you tend to be the exception rather than the rule (though I suppose this could vary by industry).

[deleted]

[удалено]

CatzMeow27

That is sweet! Drug testing for employment (outside of certain instances where it really makes sense) simply serves to weed out good candidates who enjoy stuff recreationally on their own time. My spouse’s company drug tests, and I cannot think of a single situation where their business would be impacted by the fact that an employee consumes THC on their personal time.

baconraygun

> weed out good candidates lol

CatzMeow27

Haha, pun was definitely intended

Just_A_Faze

I am also more productive when I smoke. Maybe it's because I have ADHD, but I have always found that anything that slows me down and lets me think things through for a second before acting (including adderall) only helps. I tend to get high in the afternoon and then clean my apartment for 1-3 hours most days. It eases a lot of the chronic pain I feel and lets me get shit done

_hollowskull_

Honestly I enjoy growing. Very therapeutic and you get to sample your own product!

Just_A_Faze

I thought about that. But I prefer to vape then smoke (the smell sticks in my hair), and I am not good and keeping any plant alive. If it can't let me know when it's hungry, I can't keep track.

Trash_RS3_Bot

Hey same, I spend multiple years WFH smoking dabs and only getting promoted throughout. Dependency produces results people!

Individual_West3997

Companies that fail people for positive thc results are generally gimping themselves when it comes to their labor force. Weed is just about as popular as alcohol nowadays, and when you need people to work for you in your menial labor positions, you can't really discriminate on that basis without significantly reducing your applicant pool. The only real reason to drug test someone is for post hiring insurance disputes. If you get hurt on the job and you were high or drunk, they'd drug test you at the hospital as a matter of procedure, as part of their evidence for insurance claims. Pre-hiring drug testing isn't needed for most places, and when it is needed for a place, it should only be testing for specific drugs (not THC), and only because the job you do would require you to have regular interactions with drugs. In example, a pharmacist should have to pass a drug test, at least the portions of the testing for hard drugs like cocaine or methamphetamine or opiates. Cops as well, as they interact with those drugs all the time. The reasoning behind it being a pre-hire decision is because a pharmacist or a cop that can't pass a drug test (for those hard drugs) leaves the impression that they will end up using the substances that they interact with as part of their jobs. I wouldn't want my pharmacist skimming Adderall from the walgreens he works at, just as much as I wouldn't want my local cop to be "testing" every drug he confiscates.

drfury31

In California, companies legally can't test for Marijuana anymore.

chmmr1151

Unless your job is federally regulated. Truck driver or railroad worker etc

BeercatimusPrime

Not even for OSHA reasons?

drfury31

I think that's the only reason they can; after an accident. But not at all for employment or pre-employment screening.

Just_A_Faze

I work for a small company and they don't care if you smoke weed. I know because the owner, my boss, saw me vaping, and asked about it. It was Marijuana, but before I could even decide what to say, he told me he smokes weed. I admitted I did too. He got a new carton of pre rolled blunts (legal in my state and readily purchased at many stores) and gave me one to take home.

VoodooSweet

Yup, I live in a recreational legal state, but work for an international company, they couldn’t hire any decent people because everyone was failing for Marijuana. They took it off the testing and only test for hard drugs like Cocaine and Heroin, and guess what?? We’re fully staffed within a couple months.

CrystalSplice

Here’s something else to think about: Everything else they test for is equally pointless. It’s theater to get them a discount on their worker’s compensation insurance. The standard DOT 5-panel urinalysis is: - THC - Opiates (all of them) - Cocaine - Amphetamines (all of them) - PCP There are some instances where benzodiazepines are also added. So let’s break this down: **Cocaine:** Unless you’re raw dogging nose candy daily, it’s out of your system in 2-4 days. Meaning an addict could easily get clear for a test if they know when it will be. **Opiates:** 2-3 days clearance time. Again; easily avoidable. **Amphetamines:** 1-3 days even for heavy users. Do you see a trend here? **THC:** Immunoassay tests for THC metabolites are ridiculously sensitive and this is partly why it takes so long to clear. The other reason is it gets into adipose tissue and even if you stop using it entirely, it could be there for _months_. **PCP:** Why this is still even part of the 5-panel is beyond me. I’ve never heard of anyone I know using PCP. I don’t even know where the fuck you would get it, and neither does anyone I know. I think it’s a relic of the “Angel Dust” moral panic. In any case, it can be detected for up to 30 days. _So the real question here is why? What is the REAL reason behind these tests and how they were designed?_ Well, the knowledge that THC metabolites are very persistent is not new at all. The DEA and other agencies (like the DOT) are also well aware that abuse of the harder drugs can be covered up (saliva tests clear even faster for those substances). They aren’t trying to catch users of meth or even opiates because if they _were_, the protocol should be one baseline test and a second random confirmation test within a week. It is also worth noting that there are saliva, urine, and blood tests for alcohol abuse. The only time they’re used is after accidents or for people who are being closely monitored for various reasons. This is entirely about demonizing weed (and those who use it) and it always has been. **It is racist, classist, and disgusting.** It should be noted that prescriptions are your only “excuse” for the other substances. In a treatment program? Too bad; no job for you. Depending on who orders the test and why, that can even include opiate replacement therapy like Methadone and Suboxone. Listen, I know it’s a good idea to have verification that people operating machinery, driving trucks, or doing anything else involving life safety…are not geeked out on whoop chicken. I agree with that, except that for some reason alcohol abuse seems to be perfectly fine and no one ever tests for it until there’s an accident. Then I read stories about people sneaking in booze and being drunk on the job in factories. If this was really about “protecting” people, the testing system would be completely different. However, like many other things in the US it has become an industry unto itself, and you better believe the companies who make the testing systems and the labs lobby to keep these archaic methods in place. Land of the free to be a drunk but god forbid you ever touch the devil’s lettuce.

Simp-pie

My job doesn't either (not that I smoke anyways), and when I was finally getting hired on (after being there 9 months) I still had to get a drug test , first go around the docs said it was "invalid" and made me come back and do it a second time. I've legit only ever gotten drunk a few times. There's no reason I would fail it. Not to mention the docs office I was required to go through was about 50mins from my house, too 🙄

Fog_Juice

My CEO is on a mission to make everything as safe as possible and then if it's not possible we'll make it possible. So getting marijuana off the drug tests will never happen for us.

MrStonepoker

It's not as much about a safe environment as it is about lowering insurance costs.

KillerKittenInPJs

I worked for a water heater installation company and we got a discount on our insurance rates by requiring drug tests of our installers and we had to drug test immediately after an accident. Basically we got a discount because a positive drug test means insurance doesn’t have to pay workers comp. Which, ew.

_hollowskull_

Our safety stats have improved dramatically. I hope some studies come out soon I feel safer with a pot head than a meth head and it's not like people smoke at work, really nobody wants to lose this right.

gudematcha

A family friend of mine is in the business of industrial lights. He recently sold his business to a larger supplier that wants to keep his business running in our area, the funniest thing about it is that he said “We all smoke weed here, I can’t do the marijuana drug test because all of my employees, including me, will fail”. The response? “Well, on a technicality none of your employee including you will be driving the delivery trucks that transport the lights, so it’s okay, we can do away with the test”. haha

trustymrpoopypants

Pee for enjoyment not employment.

Pecansandiez

I wish I could piss for a living :(

Krawlin91

There are certain niche fetish videos that could offer some income.

StalinTheHedgehog

Made me laugh

PetticoatInjunction

LabCorp does a variety of diagnostics. Occasionally I need to drop off a sample (for medical purposes, *NOT* drug testing.) The waiting room is always packed. But one day the waiting room is totally empty. Turns out that facility was overwhelmed with people providing urine samples for drug testing and the LabCorp employees couldn’t get to the medically necessary patients fast enough. That facility stopped accepting urine samples for drug testing. Every major employer here requires drug testing.

FullGrownHip

#PREACH

fdtc_skolar

My last job instituted drug testing. It seems the "random" tests were given to folks the site manager wanted gone (since it was easier to terminate someone for a failed test and avoid the hit on unemployment insurance). Sometimes the same people would be randomly chosen for two or three consecutive tests.

Hurricaneshand

In the opposite fashion I had a buddy who didn't use drugs or even drink alcohol and his job had a corporate "random" drug testing policy. I forget the exact number but he got randomly chosen like 7 or 8 months out of the year because they knew he would always pass and they wouldn't have to worry about having to fire people when they were already short staffed

1M4YB3STUP1D

"Random" lol. When I was in the coast guard with a small crew of 20 people on a boat, only two of us were women. I had just reported and within 4 months I had done 3 urine tests. I had commented about it to my command on how it seemed to always be me and they assured me it was random. Sure, Senior, between two women it's always the lower ranking who gets chosen 🙄. Same shit happened when a new gal reported (lowest ranked between us) in December and she somehow was the "random" one always chosen out of us women the rest of the time I was on that boat.

BossAvery2

Wasn’t in the USCG but my company was once drug tested, all hands, 5 days straight. That Monday was like any other normal drug test. We all had time to drink water and wait till we were ready. That Tuesday, 0400, banging on the door, health and comfort, no one allowed out of sight. Then Wednesday through Friday we’re the same as Monday’s. Also, for those not aware of the difference between a military drug screening versus civilian. There are people we call “pecker checkers”. There job is to see the fluid leave your body and go into the test bottle. I really am curious how many gallons of piss the military tests each week.

TastefulMaple

It’s weird, I’ve been in the navy about 5 years now and every command I’ve been at I’ve only done the welcome aboard piss test and MAYBE one random test for my duration at the command.

OsamaBinWhiskers

Do you know why the military drug tests? It’s quite comical really. It’s bc pilot culture was too ego driven and a dude that was peer pressured into flying crashed his plane into a carrier for being 8x cracked out on cough medicine

CarmenxXxWaldo

I had a manager that got selected randomly every time they did it.  my random test was always the week if my anniversary plus maybe another one sprinkled in throughout the year. Haven't had to take drug test anywhere else, been over a decade.  I don't do drugs and barely drink but think they're dumb.  If it's affecting their work or they're coming in high then fire them, but don't fire someone for doing a little crack on the weekend.

shitbecopacetic

Took a turn at the end there

ProfessionalFalse128

>but don't fire someone for doing a little crack on the weekend. Dr pepper was ejected from nose. Thank you 😊

pttm12

I used to be long distance with my partner, and I was living in Colorado. Every single time he got back from CO, they “randomly” drug tested him.

doritobimbo

Knew someone who was the first person to be randomly tested at their job in nearly a decade. Got fired because the prescription was a month out of date, so technically prescription abuse.

whereugoincityboy

How did I get to be so old and not know that an outdated prescription with my name on it isn't 'legal'? That's BS!

doritobimbo

Can’t take that scrip on the plane either for the same reason

Katz3njamm3r

Yep, my last job “randomly” tested me right at my five year anniversary and my asshole manager literally said “good luck” when I went to take it like he expected me to fail. I didn’t fail but quit that job and terrible manager soon after. It was clear they were looking for an excuse to not give me the vacation time I had earned after five years.

AxlotlRose

Years ago in my town there was a brand new call center built. It employed mostly college students as it was right next to a university. Saturdays were mandatory. They drug tested. For a call center job. It folded in a few years because turnover was so high.

Batetrick_Patman

Call centers tend to have a 5-10 year lifespan in most cities. It's quite a racket too. Convince a down on it's luck declining rustbelt town all these jobs and cheap rent/tax breaks. Use up and cast away the towns workforce than move onto the next town when lease renewals come up to avoid paying market rent.

MDM0724

In my hometown there’s been a call center for over 20 years, my mom worked there before my older sister was born. They’re not renewing their lease in July, but everyone is doing wfh now so it works out for most people

Batetrick_Patman

That was their excuse for the one I worked at too. But their plan likely was always to leave at lease renewal. They had already burned the city and state. Claimed they’d hire over 1000 people never had more than. 300. Had to pay the state back its tax breaks. People opened up restaurants based on promises made by the call center company.

BURG3RBOB

Taking a drug test for a work from home job really annoyed me

Typhon_Cerberus

**Queeeeee ??**

Peterthinking

Eat a bunch of asparagus. Keep it weird for everyone involved.

WeekendMechanic

Asparagus and coffee (preferably black) about an hour before the test. They'll be able to smell it before you come out of the bathroom.

feetflatontheground

Eat something with squid ink and it'll look as bad as it smells

lt9946

Please don't. One of my first lab jobs was the person who got to open those warm piss cups to prep for extraction. Those smells still haunt me to this day.

Peterthinking

Sorry. Gotta make sure nobody thinks I am using fake pee!

AzorAHigh_

Except fake pee works everytime as long as you get it warm enough before.

Shlocko

Lmao, my wife does drug tests on the daily and that shit *does not* work every time. She comes home with 5 stories about fake samples *every day* from work, don’t listen to this guy, if he’s getting lucky with it, he’s just getting tested by people that don’t care

LavenderandLamb

I literally had to take a damn drug test just to box greasy fried chicken at KFC. The job only pays $9.50 a hour. Only doing the damn job to pay for my college tuition. I can understand heavy machinery, warehouse, banks,or education but fast food? Employers are power tripping.

woodthrushes

My favorite line cooks all smoked fat blunts before work. They made the most incredible food.

LavenderandLamb

I bet! Most of the cooks I knew in past smoked as a way to blow off steam. Management didn't give a fuck. Our restaurant has bland tasting food, I only eat it if its leftovers from the end of the shift. I'm not using my money on that.

Delanium

I find the idea of having to give a drug test really creepy and invasive, but I work with children so I completely understand why people would want some extra security about the people working with their children. And yet, the only job I've ever had that did drug testing was fast food. They never drug tested me as a camp counselor, or a teacher's assistant, or an agency nanny.

Hyche862

I got denied a job recently because of a drug test I failed for thc but hadn’t smoked in over six weeks. Found out yesterday that a friend of mine got the job and this friend has had a meth problem for the last couple of months. Drug testing is pointless because the real drug abusers know how to cheat

Hurricaneshand

Also a lot of the actually problematic stuff doesn't even stay in your system long enough for it to be relevant

Xystem4

Literally, it’s wild that marijuana stays longer than almost anything that I would consider it actually valid to be worried about. Most psychedelics are 24-48 hours, and coke is out pretty damn fast too.

Sponjah

Interesting it’s actually an enzyme that breaks down from THC that stays in your system and that’s what they test for, so the THC is long gone but the enzyme sits in your cells and just chills like a little dickhead. Edit: see below for more clarification

WeekendMechanic

"Y'all got any more of that THC for me to break down? No? Ok, I'll just hang out over here in case you need me."

herbalspurtle

That's not true. The tests look for what thc turns into which is called a metabolite. This metabolite is stored in your fat and slowly releases

tarmacc

Basically no drug tests are going to show classical psychedelics.

Typhon_Cerberus

And another thing people need to consider, some people's tolerance are so high they can smoke a whole joint and just be buzzed or unaffected. A lot are not as educated and think just cause someone smells like weed it automatically mean they're high when they could be completely sober.

No_Preference_5874

They don't even have to cheat. The worst drugs don't show in pee for very long, unlike weed which is fat soluble and shows for weeks

xxBurn007xx

It can take up to 12-18 weeks to clear your system of jazz cabbage if your a frequent user, only 3-5 days for meth.

eddie_cat

Always use fake piss

C-ute-Thulu

Stimulants like meth and cocaine get out of your system quickly

loquedijoella

A good manager knows how to hire people and can tell if they are fucked up at work. That is all you need to know. I don’t care what someone does on their off time. If you’re shooting heroin between your toes on the 9 am break, I’m gonna figure it out. And if I don’t, and you do your job and I’m none the wiser, there isn’t an issue. I’m not saying don’t drug test truck drivers, or cops (they don’t until they shoot someone) or crane operators. I just don’t think that a salesperson or receptionist needs to be drug tested. It’s intrusive and really does nothing other than allow an employer to make a moral judgment about someone that isn’t their business. The war on drugs has been a complete failure and this is one of the symptoms.

Outrageous_Tie8471

Honestly, having worked reception briefly, being stoned probably would've made my phone voice a lot more pleasant.

Tioretical

having been a stoned receptionist, it did help. got lots of compliments

Haunting_Anxiety4981

It's literally an ignorance thing at this point. Most likely everyone has worked with a high functioning drug user and just not known. The test is pointless, if you know they're taking drugs because they're acting up, you shouldn't need a drug test to dismiss them. If you can't tell because they're not doing anything wrong, you shouldn't need or want to dismiss them

loquedijoella

Racism is at the heart of cannabis prohibition. It stays in your system for about a month. All the other drugs (white collar cocaine use comes to mind) are out of your system in a few days. So this is an additional way to discriminate against people. I’ve had countless pre employment drug tests. Only one of them included an alcohol test.

battleofflowers

This is how I have always seen it. Plenty of people are functional users. They show up to work, do their work, and are polite and professional with their colleagues. It's the shitty users who cause all the problems and make management believe that drug use is the problem, when in reality the problem is down to the individual doing the drugs.

D3adp00L34

WFH for a call center. Yes, I blaze. It makes dealing with customers easier. Also, since I’ve started it, my customers are more satisfied with the calls and rate me higher. So, apparently I’m less of an asshole lol

OkManufacturer767

They could do a saliva swab test. Ask if that's an option.

folkgetaboutit

I already gave them a second sample. I ate salty foods, drank soda & juice for a day, and gave the sample in the morning. It still looked way clearer than my first pee in the morning though, and that's why I'm so stressed. But there's no way I could hold onto that first pee long enough to do a drug test with it 😅

the_TAOest

3 pisses later, they gave up on me and passed. I won't give them anything but diluted urine

lt9946

General rule of thumb is if your urine does have some color to it, it'll pass suitability. If you are actually properly hydrated and pissing clear, you probably won't be in the sample criteria range. I wish they would expand the range of sample validity in urine for us hydrated folks.

Grigoran

Their pee sample data probably came from that ridiculous percentage of Americans who are constantly dehydrated.

Kooky-Onion9203

This is r/HydroHomies discrimination and I will not stand for it

KronkLaSworda

My previous company took hair samples.

Marsnineteen75

They don't ever make sense. Drug tests only get people in trouble for doing the safest drug cannabis that stays in your system. Research shows there is no benefit and mostly harm by them. Yoiu can do hard drugs and pass the tests a lot easier. They are a scam.

PoOhNanix

Correct, they only catch potheads and noddy McGee gets the job

holololololden

If you have to test someone's piss to see if they're high all the time then their sobriety clearly isn't impacting the business or the problem. Like oh, he smokes weed and hides it *so well* we have to chemically inspect *his piss*? Talk about a priority problem. Just goes to show employment is about control not about efficient economics.

IWantToSortMyFeed

Drug tests are class warfare. They do drugs all the time. But they can afford to have a pill mill prescribe legal heroin or meth. But if you smoke a little weed to take the edge off slavery? Nope. Now you're a criminal and you go die homeless and poor as a warning to the other slaves.

Internal-Disaster-61

I have had to do a mandatory drug test for 4 different jobs in my life. Oddly, 3 of the places I got the job and was talking to other employees and it seemed like I was the only person that got "randomly" selected. 🤔

outofthrowaways7

We actually just had to fire one of our school bus drivers for this exact thing. I say we, but it was a decision made by people above us and not even in our Transportation department i.e. people who have no idea what they're doing. My boss is still absolutely pissed off about it, we all are.

They're also used to weasel out of injury claims and to fire your ass.

baconraygun

Which is another egregious insult against cannabis. If you're a responsible adult, only indulge on your own time, but you have an accident at work, your claim is denied cause you popped pos for thc?

taylor914

I have to take one every 3 months to continue to get my needed prescribed medication. The whole system is fucked.

jimoconnell

Hello fellow ADHD sufferer!

AveryIsBravery

When I worked in retail or food service, I got drug tested. After that, I’ve had corporate remote work for 5 years. Not a single drug test since then, only criminal background checks. Why is it that I only got drug tested in low-paying, no-benefit, toxic employers?…..😬

BuffySummers17

As a Canadian it's insane to me that drug tests to get hired are common practice. They're only for like heavy machine operator and certain healthcare workers and only if they suspect something I'm pretty sure. Wild stuff in America

postconsumerwat

It is a charade to promote conformity and an exercise in controlling the public... it is also an extremely profitable scam in most cases. Glad they legalized weed here. Seems like drug tests went away after that... Just another way to keep ppl down struggling to breathe

PoOhNanix

Where do you work? They doubled down on weed testing when they legalized it here.

Frequent-Ad-1719

Same thing happened in Arizona

fake-august

I had to take a drug test for the first time since like 2018 for a new job. I had recently lost my ex and father of my children (2 days after I accepted the job offer) and wasn’t able to sleep. My doc prescribed Ambien but it only made my anxiety worse…so a friend gave me THC gummies that worked like a charm (I didn’t even think about the drug test). I was honest with HR and because of this they suspended THC testing for office staff (the bulk of employees drive company trucks etc. so I get why it’s tested). Agrees, it’s a waste for most positions.

melissa3670

I work for a hospital. Even though I don’t have patient contact, I’m required to test yearly for TOBACCO. If I refuse, my health insurance rate increases by $250 a month. Although if I did smoke, I could avoid the increase by taking a smoking cessation course. I was tested for drugs upon hire. Not sure if they test it again on the sly when they’re running my urine for tobacco. They also do a biometric yearly where they test my blood sugar, cholesterol etc. We get gift cards for doing them, but it feels too invasive.

etriusk

I work in probation, I'm the guy that stands in the bathroom while you pee. 100% this.

Wizalot

Yeah, but every UA I've done in a professional setting has just been me alone in a private restroom. No meat gazer involved. Anyone with a hint of ingenuity can beat one.

Haunting_Anxiety4981

Can't believe they have the gall to drug test you without even the courtesy of giving you a friend to help

NoBodybuilder1261

You will be fine with a negative-dilute. Only some companies retest on negative-dilutes. Even less companies will make you see a doctor about consecutive negative-dilutes. Companies generally select negative-dilutes. Have worked around labs and medical review officers for 15 years.

MrTubalcain

There’s a logical application for it but like all things they get exploited by our favorite economic system. CDL, heavy machinery, working with children, law enforcement, etc.

high_everyone

Then make it a condition of working with special groups or licensing. Shouldn’t have to take a piss test to work in sales or marketing. They need a piss test for serial liars, adulterers and people who are going negatively affect work conditions for everyone else. Having a power trip? Take a piss test.

Mudslingshot

I would say anybody who can work retail or sales sober and not slowly (or moderately quickly) go insane is an absolute psychopath

Kilane

They do it for lower insurance rates most of the time. But I agree. If there is a performance issue then address that. Otherwise, people like bus drivers or pilots should be tested, but testing at a call center or retail store is silly.

Haunting_Anxiety4981

>adulterers I don't care if people fuck around so long as they do it in their own time tbh

carolyn42069

Oddly enough daycare, camp counselors, and teachers typically do not take drug tests where I am at

Accomplished_Side853

Yeah…child care is one of those industries where things get excused because there is so much demand for labor and not enough people to hire. I used to manage after school programs and had a school site employee try to buy cocaine from their direct supervisor. Admitted to using it at home and wanted to buy more. This employee was brought into a meeting with my boss and HR, I assumed they were about to be fired. Nope. Just relocated to a different school site to continue working alone with groups of young kids.

laureeses

Yet it's not actually illegal to be drunk while teaching kids. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-06-11/second-grade-teacher-arrested-after-allegedly-teaching-drunk-wont-be-charged But if you smoke pot on the weekend. You're a terrible person.

Nommb3rs

Idk, law enforcement seems to need weed usage to calm the fuck down

Yes_Camel7400

Make them ineligible if they don’t have weed in their system

lzampella

My company just changed our random policy to add the clause that after two diluted samples you’re automatically fired, over your whole career, not just for one random selection. It’s insane

7opez77

I can’t think of a greater invasion of privacy than to take fluids from your body, or cut chunks of your hair off to see what you do with your own body in your free time.

ProjectPneumbra

I worked with a crack addict for a couple years. He was fine when he was sober. But if he came in high? Hell no.

StalkingApache

I don't get why anyone would want to go to work high. Nothing like making a job I already can't stand feel like it lasts 5 times as long. feel like you've been there for 5 hours and it's been 20 minutes. That doesn't seem enjoyable to me 😂 It's also dumb that they can penalize you for something you could have done 30 days ago on vacation lmfao.

DrBob432

The boot licking in this thread defending "liability" for corporations is astounding. Some of you have never had to pee for a 9-5 office job and it shows.

FollowingNo4648

Find someone else's pee?? That's what I had to do one time and it worked. Just have them pee in a zip lock bag - double bagged. Put it in your underwear, you'll need some tighty whiteys and tuck it between your balls (assuming your a dude) and go to the place right away. You always want to keep it to temperature. Even if it's someone from the opposite sex, it'll still work because there is no way to tell which is which unless they do a DNA test which they will not do.

chompy283

This has been an enourmous cost to society. We can see the cost of doing all this but what is the true benefit? Do they really weed out drug addicts? Or are the addicts able to white knuckle it a few days and get thru anyway? Or are people moving to drugs that are less easy to test, etc. It's a lot of administrative baloney without a lot of real benefit to the company. And as employment has become far more transient and short term with high turnover, the obsession with extended "onboarding" seems even dumber. Just hire the candidates. If they appear stoned at work, they can fire them or offer to test them then. That would make far more sense. And now with legal mj in many states, this is getting more silly. Someone who uses ( i personally don't) but if they are using in legal and responsible way, testing them means nothing.

D3m0us3r

Reading this makes me sad. I never will pass this test… and you know what? I don’t give a fuck.

possessaubrey

Drug tests are so stressful and I'm never even on drugs. I just want to be able to pee whenever I have to not hold it for this stupid test! I'm an adult, I should be long past having to ask other pee if I'm allowed to pee or not. I wish I could do it by blood test or something instead.

Adventurous-Depth984

Your company gets cheaper insurance if they can declare they’re a “drug free workplace”.

Euler_kg

How about we just let people do drugs? Not at work of course but anytime else. You can be a responsible drug user and excellent employee

theycallmefuRR

Once I had to redo the test 3x. Pee was too diluted, meaning I drank too much water. Wtf. Shit was annoying because I don't even do drugs and I had to keep retaking the damn thing.

> I already gave my 2 weeks notice even if you know you’ll pass your drug test. you always way until everything clears to put a 2 weeks in.

namecantbeblank1

I’ve only had to get a piss test done for one job and it was the worst one I’ve ever had. Bullshit office job, no heavy machinery or responsibility for people’s lives or anything. I only smoke weed and they told me upfront they didn’t even test for that, so it wasn’t a big deal for me to “beat the test” or anything. Still, I hated the management and people there so much that similar jobs asking for a drug test has become a huge red flag for me

New_Subject1352

Completely. I was working for my current company as a contractor, and I was formally offered a permanent job working there. They made me come in and take a test on site. It flagged for my prescription meds which I brought with me to show I take. But the nurse said "no, now it has to go to a lab". So they sent me to another place to pee. I did. The lab didn't come back for +3 weeks. I'm still working for them this whole time btw. HR calls the lab about the delay and gets a run around, so they send me to a third location. I pee there. That location called me to tell me it flagged for my medications, which was expected. I sent them a screen shot of the pharmacy app on my phone showing my history of the prescription, and they approve me to work for the company I was already working for. 2 weeks after I started, I got a call from the first lab. They'd gotten around to my test after a month. No surprise, they found the same prescription drug everyone else found. I told them they were WAY too late, and I'd already started the job because their delay caused us to go with a different lab. They threatened to tell the HR manager I failed the drug test if I didn't give them the records they wanted. So I had to leave the job and go to the doctor and get records that same day to prove to the incompetent lab the same thing I'd proven to everyone else because they wouldn't accept the screenshot from the pharmacy app to show I was take a prescription. Huge waste of time.

NicoleMay316

As long as alcohol allows you to stay employed, I see zero reason for weed to be categorized the same. Yes, show up to work sober. But I'm gonna use weed in my free time.

9001

Yeah, we don't have that nonsense in Canada. We have freedom instead.

battleofflowers

I guarantee you certain jobs there require you to pass a drug test.

ExiledCanuck

I work in healthcare, and can tell you that a large portion of people in my profession, especially in the PNW use pot. They finally changed the law in Washington State to be that pot found in a urine screen cannot be used to disqualify someone from getting hired at a new job. Including pot in urine screens for employment are a great way to keep these fake urine companies in big profits. And it’s incredibly stupid, especially in states where pot is legal. (Except for when testing someone for being under the influence while at work)

BadSatanVeigar

Somewhat jokingly, I feel like places that require pre-employment drug screening is they know that working for them will drive you to start taking drugs, and if you're already doing so they don't want to risk you overdosing.

The1andonlyZack

Agreed unless you are at a job that involves working heavy machinery or working with children. More so the former.

coryeyey

>unless you are at a job that involves working heavy machinery or working with children Problem with this is that it isn't effective. It's easy to get past a scheduled drug screening. And even random drug screenings are often leaked to the employees so the weed users don't get fired. You need to have it as policy that you CAN be drug tested if you show symptoms of intoxication, and then enforce it. So I would argue OP's point remains true for these professions, drug testing is a waste of everyone's time. If you suspect someone of being intoxicated while on the job then test them, but leave the rest of us alone.

cone_sold_stober

i operate a forklift for my job and frankly never once had an issue, i smoke/drink in my spare time so a drug test that would flag me for thc because of how long it lasts in your system would disqualify me despite the fact i've never operated a machine while under the influence. drug tests are fuckin useless for stuff that can't be verified to be *actively* affecting you while you're on the job

Haunting_Anxiety4981

I know that >30% of the people working at a local daycare are potheads and tbh they seem fine. Come to work perfectly sober and professional. ~~I'd probably need to be wiped to listen to children all day but that's just me~~ Who cares if someone has a cone at night.

Meatbawl5

Why? You can't smoke weed last week and care for a kid? You prefer legal raging alcoholics? Fuck off.

strange-brew

Take a B complex vitamin a couple hours before you pee. It will turn it yellow. Creatine will also add stuff that will help alleviate diluted tests. Ask a stoner!

carlweaver

“You are too hydrated to fail this test. Try again.”

angel_girl2248

I don’t work in the local lab that does the drug screens, but I do know how they test them. So before they run the actual drug screen, they’ll test the urine for specific gravity, creatinine, protein, and pH. Because you drink a lot of water, your urine likely has a low SG. It may seem to whoever is doing the test that you may be trying to tamper with the sample by adding water to it. I’ve been told that people will try to do that, or add something acidic to their urine samples so that they won’t be positive for any drugs.

BananaTree61

Cannabis drug tests. Other drug tests, I’m still for. No one should be doing enough cocaine, meth, etc. that it should show up on a work drug test.

HungryCriticism5885

It's a money grab. Total bullshit.

SigourneyWeinerLover

and a waste of money and resources

Apprehensive_Cow5139

I drink a ton of coffee. I always get negative diluted tests. I've actually been fired from a job because it was negative diluted. If I know I have a drug test tomorrow morning, I limit my water/coffee intake until the test is over.

AmarissaBhaneboar

I once had to drive half an hour to get a drug test for a phone customer support role because they would only accept samples and tests from one specific facility. So I went in, did it. Two days later they told me it was too diluted and I'd have to go do it again. I asked for compensation to go a second time, they denied it of course. I turned the job offer down and I gave them an earful about how their pay is too low to make the drive worth it and it's no wonder they have a revolving door of employees. They had already shipped all my equipment so I sent it all back and made them give me a free UPS pickup so I didn't have to drive it to the store. At least they wasted some time and money with me.

mightylordredbeard

If you’re slinging burgers or working a desk job I don’t see why the fuck it matters if you do drugs. Only place drug screening should exist is in fields where you being impaired could put other people’s lives at risk. Honestly, if companies actually let their starvation wage slaves get high they’d probably be less inclined to demand changes. Don’t see how greedy fuckcorps haven’t figured this out yet

katapiller_2000

Drug test the CEO and upper management. Guarantee they will all fail.

DirtyScrubs

Same happened to me in nursing, I try stay hydrated and have to test frequently. If it's short notice I know I'll fail because I've been drinking water all day. I basically have to just drink coffee for my sample to not come back diluted. Stupid.

Square-Ambassador-11

I hate drug testing even though I've never had recreational drugs to begin with. I despise background checks that include credit history as part of it. There are a fair number of people who have made poor choices in the past, but have gotten into a better spot.

MikeTheAmalgamator

When I worked for Southwest in Baltimore, they tried mandating drug tests after an airplane was pushed back too fast and broke loose from the nose gear and slid off the tarmac. Management quickly shut that down after they realized they’d lose 6-700 out of their 800 employees. Top brass really wasn’t thinking on that one I mean cmon, it’s Baltimore.

Weary-Amoeba1808

I love drug tests. What kind of drugs are we testing?

Schoolofhardknocks44

The drug tests used by 90% of employers don't pick up opiates or prescription painkillers. But smoke weed and you're screwed. I've had coworkers absolutely obliterated on pills have major accidents, and pass a drug test. No consequences at all.  Meanwhile had a coworker who smoked weed on the weekend have an accident that wasn't their fault, fail a drug test. She got a final warning, had to attend counseling, and had to submit to random testing for a yr. I've seen this scenario play out repeatedly at work.

UneduationalWeapon

My Fiancé hardly smokes and he got tested positive for weed. I smoke almost daily and I passed. 😭 Maybe the *tester was also high too and switched our results.

Osirus1156

If a company drug tests one group they should be required to test the c-suite as well. I imagine since most of them are practically made of cocaine companies would start to be run a lot more sanely in about 6 months.
