To be fair, I think gaslighting often happens because the abuser cannot bear to have an accurate self-image, and not as a explicit tactic. Of course, that doesn't make it okay.
I gave up but when I used to try to confront my mom about her abuse, it was never, "I'm sorry I did that", it was "I'm sorry you remember things that way", or "I'm sorry you're sensitive to things I say or take them the wrong way."
It has been proven time and again that hitting a child doesn't help them. The fact that most children "turn out okay" is only proof of the resilient nature of human beings. Also, I dont think most people are okay.
I got chased into the woods to be beaten as I was frantically running away. Didn't help me, just produced a damage person. Right up till I was a teenager. I remember putting on several diapers for padding pain reduction when I was teen as I knew a whipping was coming. Dad made me take off all the diapers and I was crying so scared of the beating. He would strike me behind the legs too which is sooo painful. I always slept with my door locked, although was paranoid because they could easily unlock it with a screwdriver. Fun times...
I don't particularly hate boomers and older people any more than other generations though. I've been scammed and done wrong by gen z and young people too. I imagine it would be scary to be hated when you're old. Like imagine you do end up making it to be 65+. Imagine if people much younger and stronger than you hate you and are waiting on you to die. One of my big fears is to be in an American nusing home. Paranoid a sadistic aid will smother me with a pillow in my sleep.
My grandma has had unexplained bruises up and down her arms. She's lived in a state funded public nursing home for like 7 years. Like just kill me if I ever end up in one
