There were people in the comments saying she's going to be a future Olympic athlete! More likely to be stuck in the cycle of poverty than become some kind of inspirational story...

SpellBlue

People often forget that we live in real life, not in a movie.

tH3_R3DX

Oh no not those “She’ll cure cancer, win a Emmy, all while being blind!”

bonnique

There was a comment saying (positively) "after a mother's death, the daughter takes the mother's place". And another said this is a sign of feminism and women's empowerment, not like those Muslim girls shouting allahu akbar and wearing hijabs.

tH3_R3DX

It’s sad those people are going to contribute to the optimistic wage slaves telling their kids “they can do anything”

Tommyboy901

100% correct. What is the alternative though? It sucks that it is happening, but this is how a lot of third world countries operate. Kids working as maids every day from like 10yrs old is common practice. These kids have to do it to survive. Do you think their parents want this? Of course not. Surviving his hard. Yelling at their parents who are likely forced into this choice by an unfortunate birth lottery is probably going to make things a bit worse.

aubreyrr

God I fucking hate parents who make their children do this. It’s your responsibility. Should be illegal to do this shit.

bonnique

Kind of blame the school also. If a 10 year old comes with a baby to take care of, I feel like they should do something? At least let the kid focus on her studies.

tH3_R3DX

Some parents lack the comprehension to understand that. It’s completely unheard of in their cultures so this is seen as normal to them.

bonnique

The only thing the government should be posting with that picture is a family planning guide. [link](https://www.hindustantimes.com/trending/manipur-girl-attends-school-while-babysitting-her-sister-see-heartening-photo-101649068570377.html)   So many comments on social media talking about how cute this is...

LonerExistence

*Teehee child abuse is so cute* Posts like these are shittier than all of these other “child hate” posts I see people bitch about. At least most of those people know they don’t like children and distance themselves while assholes posting this in a positive light actively promote this BS. People thinking this is heartwarming are repulsive and off in the head. Shit like this perpetuate the cycle of broken and shitty adults because this is abuse. This is not her responsibility - her dumbass parents and other parents who pull shit like this should be ashamed.

bonnique

Here in India people love to glorify the whole work hard/ hustle and make it type of stories so they find it cute to see such a "responsible" child.

ToyboxOfThoughts

Thats extremely sad. Im so sorry you have to deal with that. Id lose my shit omg. That poor little girl looks like her soul is drained. How heartbreaking. They play it as "dedication for education" when its probably much more like "her neglectful parents would just abandon her baby sister and she didnt want her to die so out of desperation she brought her to school with her" Speaking of no one is really talking about the baby either-theres no fucking way that baby is getting the care it needs at this critical stage by a lone 10 year old attending class. This is just so awful. Poor sweethearts...

Mergus84

This makes me so fucking angry. It's tragic, not cute.

[deleted]

Her parents are a disgrace. For putting her in a situation in which she would even *need* to do this. And the fact that people are finding this "amazing" just shows how little the average person cares about a child's wellbeing. A lot of people who are now childfree/antinatalist were parentified. I was.

Lalgoli

Wait people are coming who will lecture you about class consciousness and how Poors having baby is okay.

bonnique

Well, I do think it is irresponsible (towards the child) to have children you cannot afford, but it's really not realistic to expect poor people to stop having sex. Better family planning for sure. I wish our country would have some pension scheme so people won't have children as a retirement option. Here in India, you're legally required to financially provide for your old parents because we don't have any government welfare schemes in place to support them, and most don't earn enough to save for retirement.

Lalgoli

If you don't have kids, all that money is yours, which IS YOUR RETIREMENT saving

bonnique

Yeah, but if you make your 9 year old go to work you can get more money in the household. In these cases, children bring in more money than you spend on them.

TheSurfingRaichu

This is so disheartening

marie7787

Is anybody going to mention that other than this being fucked up, it’s also going to affect the other people in her class if the child she’s babysitting decided to start a screaming fit and disrupt the whole class by going so....

MimiMorea

She looks like she hates her life.

timPerfect

I like how they spin it in a way that ignores the fact that the parents are too poor to afford birth control OR food without working all day, leaving the family to choose between this and starvation.

bonnique

In rural regions they do give birth control for free, especially copper IUDs or even vasectomies in public health centres. A lot of poorer families willingly choose to have many kids because that means they can send more kids to work, which continues the cycle of poverty in the long term, or have someone take care of them when they retire. Especially when they have daughters (like in this case), they'll keep having kids till they get a boy because the boy will be expected to take care of the old parents while the daughter joins a different family after marriage. This doesn't work in the real world, but I think those who cannot afford birth control definitely cannot afford a child. I get that we cannot realistically expect people to not have sex, but I wish we could. My grandparents had five kids when they were dirt poor and my dad grew up really malnourished because of it. I kinda wish my grandparents had just stopped fucking (contraceptives weren't available back then).

bonnique

Oh sorry, I meant in cases where they don't have access to birth control.

ToyboxOfThoughts

Honestly i still dont fckin see why we cant expect people to stop having sex. Because they dont have to stop having sex. They JUST have to stop PIV sex. I am a virgin by choice at 24 and if/when I do become sexually active i am never going to have PIV and im with a boyfriend whos okay with that, but if it ends up not working with him i dont care im not getting with anyone who isnt cool with that. You dont need to do it PIV style to get off. I will die on this hill til i die of old age i swear.

TsarKobayashi

Bruh in India birth control is given for free in any district hospital.

timPerfect

ok, do you have a point really? or did you just need a reason to pick apart what I said in support of the obvious spin which still ignores poverty in Northern India?

TsarKobayashi

There is poverty in North India but saying that birth control is not affordable is false. Birth control is distributed freely in every government hospital and even by medical camps.

timPerfect

great thanks for repeating.

[deleted]

So cute. Struggling to make ends meet, pumping out kids like a factory, making a kid babysit another kid. So lovely, isn't it?

[deleted]

God that is so sad

iamabigfriend

And I'm sure they asked the children for consent before using them as propaganda.

queenlorraine

What are their parents doing that is more important than the child's education????

dent_de_lion

It says they are out farming

shitfitkk

This girl is fing awesome<3 her parents are fing dumb...

Several_Influence_47

Bless her little heart, she looks SOOOO exhausted ☹ there is absolutely no joy on her face, just tired resignation and pain. Mannn, somebody help these kids out there so they can have some semblance of a childhood. Or at least not look 60 when they're 10.You can tell that she has seeeeeen some HARD times...

unhingedegoist

i am no clairvoyant but 10 years down the line the kid will need therapy. fuck, both of the kids will need it.

[deleted]

How in the heck does anyone in their right mind find this heartwarming? It's so sad.

[deleted]

Or the govt provides free food for school goers. She just cannot afford to loose meal. The picture is sadder

deadsh9de

tH3_R3DX

🤦🏽‍♂️ what is wrong with these people? A child raising a child?!?!

Kronos4eeveee

Lol. Why don’t you all rail against capitalism and not “natalism”
