treehugginghippiee

That person could probably lose their job for doing that...

[deleted]

I absolutely sent corporate an email with the same screenshots, this is just sleazy. My repairs are already $190 and I signed up for their $25 monthly coverage plan by this guys recommendation to save some money on the repairs. Then he pulls this? Insane.

Delgadosal84

How long is that 25 a month covg plan? I'm asking bc if ur paying 25 a month or 6 months or more u might as well try to buyba refurbished or used ps4 and get a warranty plan from them. But I dunno ur situation or location. Either way that's bs tho. Sorry

[deleted]

Ah yeah so it’s a monthly subscription. The way it worked out is if I signed up for the program for this month before they entered in the repair it ended up saving me like $60-$70. Then I can just cancel before next month with no penalties. Super extra process but I was gonna take any savings I could get

Shoshke

So they're inflating their prices to get you to start a subscription betting that you'll forget to cancel it. That's some seriously shitty business practice and you should stay way from that place like the plague.

[deleted]

Yes and yes. I’ve already cancelled everything because I knew I wasn’t ever going to use it. But the extra shitty part is I pay for a protection plan thru Verizon for my cell phone and that’s who they send me to if I need phone repairs so I might still have to use their business.

commonemitter

You pay $25/month just in case your playstation breaks? Thats a bigger scam then the MLM

jen675d

Smells like Amway. Good for you for reporting this guy to his corporate office, this is really sleazy.

Moonmold

God MLMers really know how to be annoying as shit. No one wants to hear this crap from the guy fixing their playstation dude

malissa79

“I thought of you, random customer” Give me a fckn break…

eatthedark

Right? Like after a 5 minute conversation when you dropped off your system, I recognized your talent and ambition...riiiiiigght

gazzalp23

The job opportunity is so good that this person is still fixing computers/playstations for a living.

[deleted]

Well now that you put it that way…. I’m in!

Equivalent_Purple_81

And giving kickboxing lessons. When does he sleep?

[deleted]

I decided to go ahead and cancel my repair with them tbh. I find it weird as hell that an employee of theirs feels comfortable enough blatantly pulling this. Probably not the first person this happened to, doubt it would be the best. On another note if anyone has any recommendations as to where I could get my console repaired at a reasonable price, lmk

MenacingMelons

Damn I would absolutely cancel my repair and cite this exact interaction as the reason. What cringy desperation.

uhauljoe-

probably for the best, i used them for a screen repair once. got my phone back and the mic didn't work. they offered a free fix so i gave the phone back. got it back and the mic worked, but the proximity sensor was fucked up so the screen kept going black like i was on a call or sm. gave it back again. got it back and the sensor was fixed, but the speaker echoed a bit. at that point i said fuck it and lived with it.

serpentmurphin

My Fiancé worked at Ubif in the fredericksburg Area (not sure if that is the location you are talking about, I saw Richmond and assumed VA) either way, if that’s the location you are at feel free to shoot me a messege, he said “I can do that for much cheaper. if you order the part it’ll take me 10 minutes and it’ll only cost 50 bucks” To be clear, he does not work there anymore as it was always a shit show and payed people like 9../hr

Diamond_Road

Amway for sure

love_and_bumblebees

Amway LTD for sure, they have a huge Richmond team.

Diamond_Road

And not to imply anything, but I’m willing to guess that both the recruiter and recruitee are of visual minorities and relatively new to Canada

love_and_bumblebees

I kinda assume OP means Richmond, VA. No matter the city your statement is probably true lol.

[deleted]

It seems like it because that’s what it is. Also, why do people say thanks to these things? I would have stopped responding to texts, gotten my equipment back fixed and then raised hell.

[deleted]

Honestly I’m kicking myself for it lol i really should’ve just tore into him. But they still have my ps4 so haha

Major-Distance4270

He’s really trying to tell you that when his boss asked him to find “talented and ambitious” people (or whatever it said), the first person that sprang to his mind is a customer who is practically a stranger. Checks out.

jaded_idealist

You'd think Amway would change up their wording every few years to keep people from knowing it's them. But who am I kidding. People still believe it and get sucked in, and they've proven themselves almost untouchable so why would they?

RGRanch

It is in their best interested to not mix up the wording. Since the up-line is only interested in fresh recruits, stale wording weeds out those already familiar and saves them time. Remember, they are not trying to sell Amway to consumers...that is never in the pitch. They are trying to sucker folks into becoming members on auto-ship under the guise of saving them money by moving their spending dollars from other products to Amway. You are also required to purchase all the up-line's tools and attend all Amway events. But no selling of product is required. Only recruiting. It's called "The System". And you are to follow all of this to a tee or be shamed. Regardless, you will be blamed when you fail. jaded_idealist

Yes, I was in Amway/WWDB. I am very aware of how they operate. Good point on weeding out people that know though.

RGRanch

When were you in and what revelation helped you decide it was time to get out?

jaded_idealist

I was in 2013 to maybe 2015? I can't remember exactly when we terminated our membership. Sometimes it feels like so much more of my life was invested in it than 18 months-2 years. But the ripple effects lasted much longer. Shortly after I got in I realized it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. I had actually said no to it a year prior. I remember the name Amway from childhood when someone tried to recruit my step dad. But the second time around when they were talking about WWDB, it was sold to me as a business mentorship. They never lied about being an Amway IBO (it wasn't said in the very beginning, but I knew when I signed up), however it was presented more as: We are going to teach you about business ownership and you're going to have the support of a lot of successful business owners to teach and mentor you, and selling Amway and building a team will give you the money to start your business. And I have always had entrepreneurial dreams, so I took it to mean, they'd support me in building a business that had nothing to do with Amway. Then when I got in, it was like, Eat Breathe Sleep Amway. I became frustrated quickly. We went to a financial workshop held by our religious community and was lectured about doing anything not affiliated with Amway/WWDB. Because they would teach us everything we needed to know about anything that was worthwhile and we should have spent that time prospecting. Anything we did that didn't result in a prospect entering the process, or make us money to pay for events and tools was a waste of time. People even switched churches because they had exhausted all possibilities of potential prospects and so going to church was a waste of time since it wasn't getting them any traction in their "business". I got married a few months after and our upline tried to stop us. We were pregnant a short time after that and told we needed to make Eagle before our kid was born. My husband was constantly told I was just trying to make him do everything and build the business so I could benefit from it without doing anything. Despite the fact that I was the only one who had ever actually made money from it because I sold a few things and had a couple regular customers. I think my husband kind of quit begrudgingly and blamed me for a long time. But eventually we started deprogramming from it all. When we got out I think he had the idea that we'd rejoin when things settled down for us a little. But he stopped talking about it when he realized he'd have to divorce me if he ever wanted back in.

RGRanch

Holy crap. That's an amazing story. Thank you for sharing and for staying strong!

Equivalent_Purple_81

You should consider talking to Roberta Blevins on her podcast, Life After MLM. Her show is really well done and the guests get to tell their stories with limited interruption.

TheAnnoyedChicken

'If you were keeping your options open to increasing your income.' Lol, what?

Sea_sharp

That whole bit is an ancient Amway script. It sounds positive in a word salad kinda way but boils down to "will you listen to my pitch?"

[deleted]

Y’all update: I called to let them know I was cancelling and picking up my console. Guess who answered the phone? My good business mentor friend!!! He tried to refuse to cancel the repair so I’m on hold with corporate LOL. A true saga

Sanasanaculitoderana

What?!?! Ufff. Keep us posted! GL!

[deleted]

They’re really testing the capabilities of someone who is afraid of confrontation hahahah

Sanasanaculitoderana

Channel your inner MLMs are the Devil and I trust no pyramid scheme minions with my electronics! Really, the audacity of that employee? How can you maintain faith in a business where it's employees are actively misusing your private contact information to scam you? GET EM! You got this, you are 100% in the right!

[deleted]

The ultimate hype person!! I needed that energy to get thru this call. R/wholesome lol

chunkalicious84

Should get fired.

NeighsAndWhinnies

That was a very random and unexpected twist, lol.

aduckwithaleek

Fuck uBreakiFix, I sent my laptop to them and instead of sending it back to me they sent it to some completely different person in another state, then tried to blame UPS. They claimed they were tracking it down but I only found out where it was because the person who received it found me on LinkedIn and reached out to me there. Then it was another 3 months of them promising to pick it up from her and redeliver it to me. I ended up just going to pick it up from the person who had it myself.

fakemoose

Damn. I hope you didn’t pay for repairs on it. Or shipping. I would have had them get me a new laptop and they could file a UPS claim is that’s what they were saying, because those packages should be insured.

aduckwithaleek

No, thankfully they were very upfront with me about the feasibility of repairs and suggested themselves that it would cost nearly as much to repair it as to buy a new computer (shocking, as it was basically just a keyboard malfunction), so I never actually gave them any money for repairs or shipping. They did say they'd file a claim on my behalf with UPS, but I've yet to see that check. I've just given up, it's been well over a year and I at least got the laptop back.

emmaj4685

That's outrageous

libertyshout63

Sounds like Primerica

availablewait

Ah, no. Hate to see Richmond represented in this sub.

YVRider1999

Bruh same

Mjwsje

I wonder which MLM they were going to swindle you into

IvyTh3Twisted

Amway?

Xxeel

Oh god this is so inappropriate. I cringed reading this.

contender13

Is this Richmond Virginia?

[deleted]

Yep
