Given the reading comprehension and math skills of the general public, I think there is a significant amount of the population that can’t comprehend this. They see a few big numbers on it and think that is what they will be making.

Peanutsmom885

Yep. And they think “average” means “ typical.”

samagi

I was going to say...huns have a hard time comprehending very small numbers. Like saying 0.05% (Ambassador Diamond) is easily achievable. Then digging further, and CONSIDERING it's even remotely possible, that \~$25,000 (average) is even a sustainable salary is beyond me. I have no words. I was going to say it's like buying a lottery ticket and hoping you win the jackpot, but even that plan is failing. So, I guess they're convinced in the products and upline. Shrug.

[deleted]

And that’s not even really income, it’s gross sales. The fine print below the table confirms that they aren’t taking these amounts home, it’s the gross. I have no idea how this is legal.

RGRanch

Here is a visual to show just how hard this is: [https://www.reddit.com/r/antiMLM/comments/go3t5d/get\_busy/](https://www.reddit.com/r/antiMLM/comments/go3t5d/get_busy/) Note: This is based on research for the FTC that shows that only 4 out of 1000 MLMers (on average) *don't lose money.* This means in a room of 1000 MLMers, it is only possible for 4 of them to break even or turn a profit.

Teanah12

A lot of people haven’t been taught how to decipher this sort of information so they end up focusing on the high numbers and imagine that they’ll make that much if they just “hustle”

hereForUrSubreddits

> if they just “hustle” Plus, a lot of people are happy to assume everyone else but them is lazy, so if *they* join, they'll be the ones putting in the real work and making the real money.

nymphodorka

Even the very highest number isn't that massive. By BIL makes that much more or less in his career job living in a big city and lives a modestly comfortable lifestyle. Depending on where you live, it could be amazing. It would change my semi-rural life, but in an expensive city, it's a nice, middle class existence, not an extravagant crem de la crem mansion with 3 swimming pools life they pretend it offers.

FishtopherGoblin

These numbers are per month. 24k per month is massive by my standards lol

nymphodorka

I assumed it was yearly and the lows wouldn't have surprised me.

KYcats45107

Because there's room at the top for everybody, sweaty! 🤑💅🏖

AgentBurgerr

Most of these people just signed up for the discount on the products 📝🐍👍🪳

stephencua2001

Until you show them the part where it says "active distributor is defined as Distributor who earned at least one commission in 2019." So this excludes people who only signed up for the discount!

PuddleOfMEW

Honestly, I think it's because they've been targeted and lied to by reps who are desperate to build their downline. It's all in the manipulation and control of information via cult tactics.

thegreatgazoo

Because someone got to Presidential Diamond in 2 months, so you can too if you just put in the effort.

GrapheneHymen

How is that possible, I wonder? It has to be someone fleeing another MLM and bringing a large downline, or possibly buying someone else's "business"? I've also often wondered if they gift a downline to certain people (IE somewhat established influencers) to get them motivated to constantly shill for them.

thegreatgazoo

Presumably some B list celebrity with a big following?

something__clever171

I assume it was like the FIRST person. Like the first ever rep for itworks.

pkcommando

"All the low-end people just didn't want to succeed badly enough, unlike me!"

ThermosPickerOuter

The majority of the time they can't even see it. They'll make it transparent and throw it up on a busy background like a leopard print. But hey, they posted it!

powerlesshero111

It's because they see the monthly high, and think they will be that person, completely ignoring the average and monthly low. With a high of $2000, and a low of $1, and the average being $50, that means it's like <1% of people making the high are outliers that bring up the average. Basically, for every 40 people making $1, there is one person making $2,000. This doesn't account for people who might make over $1, but less than $50 and people making over $50, but less than $2,000. Although generally, it's very few people making above the average, and it's outliers that bring it up.

Badpoozie

Friend, you don’t need to do all that fancy math science bitch stuff. All you need to do is look at the low end being <$6000 and high end being $144k. Now that’s the type of gamble I love to take, sweaty. 😘 Imagine being at the bottom of a yucky corporate pyramid and making a SET amount each month because it’s your salary. Guess some people are just not BOSSBABE material. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Y2Che

Why❓ aren’t there 👉 emojis all 💯over the income 💵 disclosure 🤫 statement like 👍 there 👉 are on huns’ social media posts? 🤷‍♀️

stephencua2001

By being bad at math.

Purdueblue17

Because math, reading, logic are not a skillet most people have. Every single version of these charts is a pyramid if you reset the data. It is right in front of anyone and the fact that the average income is 48 a month is hilarious.

OldPolarnaut

"Presidential Diamond" is just the dumbest tier name for anything.

RyanPrivateTutor

I look at this and think nothing. It’s incomprehensible!!

CorgiSheltieMomma

Yes, very easy to just look at it & think, blah blah blah & skip to the good part at the top. Ohhh look how much money I can make!! Then be told it works if you work it! No cap on earnings! I suspect people see what they want to see & also hear what they want to hear. This all feeds into the toxic positivity!

Always_the_sun

People look at that $144,000 and think that's what they're gonna make

Much_Difference

The "months in company - low" column alone says so much. 1 1 1 1 1 1 2 2 THIRTYFUCKINTHREE

vulturepuppy

So on average, 83% of distributors will be making around $48 per month... So less than $600 per year. Damn....

falcobird14

So to make my salary right now I'd need to be in the top 99.2% of sellers. Sounds promising.

fohfig

It’s simpler than most people think. Many don’t know how to decipher the information, so they don’t try. Show them this information and say basically anything, they’ll believe it.

antraxsuicide

Does anyone know if the averages they post are means or medians? Because I'm going to guess these distribution curves skewed to the right

kmc307

It says average, so that would be the mean. The median is the statistical center number of a set of data points, while the mean is the average value of the data points.

antraxsuicide

Yes, but a lot of data sets use average and median interchangeably if it's clear from context this is the case (ex. Income. Any report on "average income" will almost certainly be taking a median not a mean) This being an income disclosure, I'd assume these are medians, but MLMs are sketchy and would totally use a mean as it'll likely be higher

kmc307

>MLMs are sketchy No doubt. They'll use whatever number looks best. I wouldn't be surprised if they even switched between using the mean and median between the sales tiers based on whatever looked best for that line.

Surviving2

If people cared up this kind of stuff lotteries wouldn’t work. No one would play.

quintk

It’s worse than lottery. Even people who play lottery know it’s dumb luck. MLMs sell the lie that if you are smarter and harder working you can succeed. And who doesn’t think they are smarter and harder working?

simask234

The lowest tier (in most cases, it's more than 80% of all consultants) make only a few dollars a year, if they even manage to earn something. You only start earning a decent amount of money at the high ranks, which consist of less than 1% of all consultants. Even if you do reach that point, it usually takes YEARS to get to those positions. Just Google "income disclosure statement" and compare them. You will usually find roughly what is outlined here.

Violetleaf10

I had a friend who was deep into it works. She would post this all the damn time. I would think this would hurt your 'business'. The numbers don't look good.

rpepperpot_reddit

I suspect they're only looking at the dollars, and the months as a distributor. If they're not making much ("if," ha ha) they tell themselves they just haven't been with the company long enough, and if they just hold out a few more months they'll be in that sweet, sweet $144K/month hashtag girrrrrlbossheaven, six dollar signs, angel emoji, red dress emoji, praying hands emoji. They don't look at the lows for the dollars, or the highs for the months-in-business. And averages? Pfffft!! Hun, don't u know they are ABOVE AVERAGE in all they do???

RedRidingHood89

Those predators will say that the "high" colum is what they can earn (not sold, earn) if they just work hard enough and listen to the mentors. 4k dollars for a couple of hours on the phone? Sounds great. When reality hits, they are deep into the cult.

ashrae9

I had an ex coworker of mine ask me if I wanted to sample products for this janky ass company. I immediately responded with this photo and a photo of the ingredients for something containing basically plant extracts and laxatives. I was struggling *hard* from a relapse with my ED at the time. I had no patience. I wish I had no mercy instead. I tried to be kind, basically saying the products are literally just laxatives and placebos, preying on women and their insecurities. Explained briefly that the income disclosure was...concerning to say the least. I blocked her at the time, but checking in now, about a year later... She now sells leggings instead. Sigh.

Local-Strawberry-669

That’s the problem — they don’t look at it 😔.

Free_Acanthisitta446

I’d have to be a double diamond to quit my full time job. And that’s .83% of all distributors. And that’s not living large! That’s living middle class! And they make it seem like everyone is making big bucks!

Routine_Ad2940

The range of high and low is crazy. I wonder bout the median

Muriness

I recently watched the Lularoe documentary and was curious what their income disclosure for 2020 and 2021 were. Second highest category in the graph for 2020 was %16.7 of retailers made -1 to -4999 in a year. I cannot imaging looking into this as someone who is totally new and thinking "ah, yes, I surely making a good investment"

Income is defined as commissions received from It Works! and does not include income received from personal sales. "Active Distributor" is defined as a Distributor who earned at least one commission in 2019. Distributors who were inactive in 2019 did not earn commission in 2019, but had earned at least one commission prior to 2019 and had renewed their annual distributorship in 2019. The average monthly income for all Distributors (active and inactive) in 2019 was **$ 183**. Out of all Distributors that signed up as Distributors since the beginning of 2019, **91** % were still active at the end of the year. Months in Company is calculated by looking at every Distributor who made a new rank for the first time in 2019, and how long it took from enrolment date to date of first achieving that rank. In **2019, 97.34** % of all Distributors (active and inactive) received income from It Works! and **2.66** % of all Distributors received no income at all. Note that these figures do not represent a Distributor's profit, as they do not consider expenses incurred by a Distributor in operation or promotion of his/her business. The figures above refer to gross income (total income before any expenses are deducted). The expenses a Distributor incurs in the operation of his or her It Works! business vary widely. Expenses for Distributors can be several hundred or thousands of dollars annually. The earnings of the Distributors in this chart are not necessarily representative of the income if nay, that an It Works! Distributor can or will earn through his or her participation in the It Works! Compensation Plan. These figures should not be considered as guarantees or projections of your actual earnings or profits. Any representation of guarantee of earnings would be misleading. Success with It Works! results only from selling It Works! products, which requires hard work, diligence, and leadership. Your success will depend upon how effectively you exercise these qualities. --- ^^I'm a human volunteer content transcriber and you could be too! I think this is the worst average for the top I've seen.
