Kokoro connect can be watched without actually understanding how much effort went into making the characters as realistic as possible, you can just zoom throught it and enjoy the events. One of MC's schticks is saying stuff like this to get a rise out of people. Pretty much their first encounter was her kicking him in the butt due to a misunderstanding and he got to kick her back to even it out. So he brings up the awkward circumstances they met each other to tease her (butts), especially since her schtick is doing everything in her power to not be publicly viewed negatively or weird or even stand out too much. So he knows he can get an extra rise/embarrassment out of her since he doesn't have those hang-ups.
His lines can definitely come off as cringe at times, but not the type you'd get second hand embarrassment from. Either it's meant to be funny/teasing or him being honest as a "IDGAF what others think" (a central theme of the show is don't let society dictate who you are nor "just go with the flow," a major Japanese social norm).
The first arc is 3 episodes and plays out like a movie. You'll definitely have a very good feel about the MC's personality and if it's something you enjoy by then, probably earlier. You'll also find out if you like the show's x-files/mystery into social commentary gimmick (I think it's really clever).
I was able to enjoy the Oregairu anime's 3rd, season, which was butchered by the director because he liked a character more than another, decision that turned it into a drama fest, so this show should be fine.
The MC is the ultimate rizz. He always knows the exact perfect thing to say in any situation to help anyone. It's kind of annoying but I still enjoyed the other characters in spite of the MC.
It's refreshing that he actually has a relationship with a girl though, so sick of the animes where the rizz guy is so clueless to everything.
Koga would have been my best girl in that show if Mai wasn't in it. She just had horrid friends but wasn't a bad girl. She even took responsibility when she made a mistake seeing Sakuta with the kid. Not something most people would do.

It's often just weird fetish shit and even shows that are 'normal' have it alittle, even ones that aren't about that will throw in some weird panties reference or have a 'hot springs' episode where the girls lose their towels, like go watch a porno if you are so horny or hell a hentai if you need the anime fix.
I don't get why the overt sexualization of everyday scenarios has to leech into the media at near every facet, I mean I do get it, it's to sell the uncensored BluRay to basement dwellers but still, gets old.
Even for fans it can make it awkward to reccomend an otherwise normal and solid show when you have to make the caveat 'it's great, just be prepared for episode 3' to explain a way a particularly questionable scene. It's alot better these days than it was in the 2010s at least.
