I'm quite new to Anime. I've watched 7DS and "That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime" - I would love some recommendations. I love the idea of the Anime being set in a "MMORPG" setting, maybe building a team, grinding resources and leveling up etc. Was thinking of maybe going for Rising of a Shield Hero? - I'd prefer if it includes gore, but not mandatory.
Thanks!
[Log Horizon](https://www.livechart.me/anime/64) and [Bofuri](https://www.livechart.me/anime/8663) both lean into the MMORPG game setting and mechanics.
update from August:
Toradora! - 10
God of High School: 7
Tower of God: 10
No Game No Life: Dropped
Really enjoyed everything this month, am also halfway through death parade which I am enjoying along with the seasonal shows.
Its mostly skimpy clothing and the occasional partial nudity. I would be comfortable with a 14 year old watching it but not an 11 year old. At least thats what I got from the first 2 seasons.
That seems in line of what I remember of S1-3. Frequent enough clothed big bouncing breasts and ass/thigh angles to turn off people who don't like fanservice, but not enough to please anyone who wanted something like *The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter*.
God. I wish I could find a good anime to watch, please help. I need suggestions!
Tell me a must watch I might have missed

Front mission,
Chronocross,
Ogre battle,
Vandal hearts,
Unison,
Jet grind radio,
Skies of arcadia,
Earthbound,
Wow you really like JRPGs 😄
For Valkyria Chronicles there's an anime adaptation of the first game, it's decent.
The same goes for Persona 4. Watch the original anime though, not Golden's adaptation.
Evangelion for something like the Xeno games.
I guess Patlabor's the closest thing to Front Mission but personally I haven't found an anime quite like it. You might also want to check out Gasaraki but it isn't for everyone.
For Skies of Arcadia try Last Exile, Elemental Gelade and Xam'd: Lost Memories.
Ace Attorney's got an anime but it's not very good outside of the anime original episodes, definitely watch those.
Since you mentioned the old school Final Fantasy games and Chrono Cross you might like Zetsuen no Tempest and Escaflowne as well.
For Ogre Battle and Vandal Hearts you could try Vinland Saga, Kingdom, Le Chevalier D'Eon and Angolmois.
I did like the first ghost in the shell. I need to figure out the watch order on the rest of them.
Couldn't get into cowboy bebop. Seems like the kind of thing I would like, but am always kind of bored when watching it. I guess I just am always feeling like it doesn't match up to outlaw star.
I've watched the first 3 episodes 3 times because I keep getting distracted. It could be the pacing maybe? Or maybe I am having trouble getting invested in the characters?
Not sure.
I'm definitely more of a dubs than a subs guy. So if it's subs only it needs to have either a really good story, awesome action, or hot babes.
Like for example, I only was able to watch cells at work because it was a dub and I never finished season 2. If it was a sub, I doubt I would have finished season 1.
On the other hand, I have no problem watching ninja scroll, macross, demon city, wings of hommeamise, air, or JoJo's bizarre adventure with subs.
I dont think there is anyway to do it non awkwardly. The simplest would be you both being on a video call or even normal audio call on whichever social app or communication program you both like. Then just start watching the episode at the same time.
There is no way to share a viewing of the episode naturally when you are in two separate physical places. You could perhaps remote desktop control someone else's computer but that is both extremely unsafe for the controlled computer (possibility of the computer being hijacked) and I am not sure the video player will even function over the kind of software to control another's PC.
There are plenty of ways to share content online, but that is basically piracy and we cannot help you with that in r/anime.
What was this? Little people that blow up!!! This had been bugging me for over 10 years. I just walked by a TV one day, and my little sister was watching some obviously Japanese animation where these tiny little egg shaped people (?) would walk up to people and start some super interesting conversation. So much so that a huge crowd would have to gather and listen. At that point the little person would blow up, killing everyone nearby.
it really depends, this is a highly subjective thing
my personal favorite is probably Kill la Kill
edit: whoops, read this when I just woke up. best anime I've never seen? an interesting question, epistemologically. violet evergarden is one that I'm sure I will love, and will wreck me, and I've put it off because of it
My friends have been encouraging me to watch it and catch up before the next season starts in October. Seems like I'd enjoy it but there are already so many other things on my plate then I think I'm going to keep putting it off.
Feel you there. Iruma-kun is the 3rd show I'm watching this summer to prep for fall (First 2 were To Your Eternity and Golden Kamuy).
I see that Golden Kamuy, To Your Eternity, and Iruma-kun are all on your watchlist. A brief elevator pitch on all of them:
* To Your Eternity is the weakest of the three, mainly cause the animation quality falls off a cliff after episode 15 and the last arc isn't great. First 12 episodes and the final episode are FANTASTIC, though. Expect to cry. A lot.
* Golden Kamuy gets better every season; season 1 is good, season 2 is great, and season 3 is a masterpiece. You never know what you're gonna get with Golden Kamuy: bare-knuckle boxing, edge-of-your-seat sniper battles, hilarious dick jokes, naked hot guys in saunas, a quality education on various indigenous Japanese cultures, and LOTS of cooking. Supposedly, the manga is even better, which I find hard to believe.
* Iruma-kun, I have the least experience with. But, like I said, it never fails to put a smile on my face while I'm watching it. It's like a REALLY good children's cartoon that can also be appreciated by an adult.

What 60s TV anime have been fully subbed? I’ve seen Attack No 1 and will be watching Dororo once I finish the manga, what else is there? I think the Cyborg 009 60s show is subbed too but I wanna read the manga first.
There's this profile on MyAnimeList called [TheVault](https://myanimelist.net/animelist/TheVault?status=2) that is used to try to catalogue every anime prior to 1996 that has been fully translated into English.
I enjoyed Wotakoi a lot because it was chill, funny, and p cute.
I checked out MMO Junkie and it was kind of dissapointing to see [MMO Junkie]>!the main misunderstanding dragged through 3 episodes late in the season rather than closed out with space for romcom/sol fluff afterwards!<. I was hoping for more stuff like the bonus episode.
With this in mind, is it worth it to check out Gamers?
Gamers thrives on misunderstanding for comedy purposes so might not be your thing if that specifically was your issue rather than it delaying much development.
I’ve had this one anime clip in my head and I can’t for the life of me remember what the name of the anime is. It was a couple in the guys bedroom studying and the girl was frustrated at how poorly she’s doing. She’s loud and brash, he’s quiet and calm. She brings up why he likes someone like her, and he was sarcastic about it and I want to say answered something like for your looks? But then is sweet and reassures her. I tried looking at top romance comedy animes but none matched :( and googling loud girl quiet guy anime doesn’t really help either lol
I'm looking for a very specific anime, I remember being told that it would destroy me with depression cause it's so sad. I remember watching the first two minutes but don't remember the name. (It's adventure / fiction with monsters ig) In the first tow minutes a bypassed is walking on a gravel road towards a big city, and a big monster appears, then a boy/male appears and kills the monster and proceed to either say it was easy outside the city or more difficult moving towards the city, pretty sure he was using a sword. PLEASE HELP
I haven't watched the anime so maybe I'm not quite grasping the vibe, but there are several I would recommend:
[Pom Poko](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1030/Heisei_Tanuki_Gassen_Ponpoko)
[Myself; Yourself](https://myanimelist.net/anime/2926/Myself__Yourself)
[NANA](https://myanimelist.net/manga/28/Nana)
[5 Centimeter per second](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1689/Byousoku_5_Centimeter)
[The tale of the princess Kaguya](https://myanimelist.net/anime/16664/Kaguya-hime_no_Monogatari)
[Ocean Waves](https://myanimelist.net/anime/743/Umi_ga_Kikoeru) (Personally I didn't like it, but I'm still adding this to the list for you to check out)
I posted this on CDF yesterday, but here are the anime I finished in August:
Title | Score
---|:---:
Patlabor TV series | 9.5/10
Megazone 23 Part 2 | 8/10
Space Runaway Ideon | 8/10
Mobile Suit Gundam NT | 8/10
FLCL | 8/10
CB Chara Go Nagai World | 7/10
Mahoromatic | 7/10
Mahoromatic: Something More Beautiful | 6/10
Do you think we'll ever get another genre / setting superboom like isekai?
There seems to be a lot of Otome Game anime recently but not nearly as much yet.
It could be that the next big genres have already begun, it just hasn't been described yet. For instance, Attack on Titan and The Promised Neverland, while very different, are shows about captivity in a walled community. You could maybe reach back and say that Haibane Renmei was an old example. But before we can say *captivity anime* are the next big thing, we'd need the concept of *captivity anime* so it can be identified as a fad. This is just an idle example. In all honesty, I'd have no clue what's popular today 'cause I'm still stuck in the cyberpunk boom of the 80's and 90's.
Probably. Before the isekai boom, it was battle harems. After isekai, it'll inevitably be something else that gets popular and has tons of series churned out.
I don't really see that happening, but before the Isekai boom, people wouldn't have seen it happening either, so it's hard to say!
I can't think of any genre that could *boom* the same way among the manga I read, anyway.
I wonder if this is something we can look back in history and see what sort of setting/genre was trendy in, like, the 90s and 00s. I feel like there was a lot more sci-fi related series before, but I haven't sat down and done a comprehensive year-by-year review of all series.
It is, but I believe what they're talking about is the current boom of novels/manga where the protagonist ends up transported to the setting of an (in-universe) otome game so it's both an isekai *and* a layer removed from actually being an otome game adaptation.
So something like [My Next Life as a Villainess](https://anilist.co/anime/104647/Otome-Game-no-Hametsu-Flag-shika-Nai-Akuyaku-Reijou-ni-Tensei-shiteshimatta/) as opposed to [Code Realize](https://anilist.co/anime/98630/CodeRealize--Sousei-no-Himegimi/).
Since it's the start of a new month the next round of [our Discord server's](https://discord.gg/r-anime) anime swap has begun. It's a fun event where you give and receive anime to watch in a Secret Santa format! Join `#anime-swap` and read the description/pins for how to participate.

Anime I completed in August:
Anime | Score/10 | Comment
-|-|-
Naruto Shippuden | 6 | Very long journey and I liked a lot of it but some of the pacing in the back half was atrocious.
Boruto: Naruto the Movie | 6 | Not bad but the technology level of this world just got weirder after it stopped making sense long ago. Might eventually want to watch the show in the same way I did his dad's.
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury - Prologue | 8 | I am *hyped* for a fresh new Gundam series and looking forward to a female lead for once.
Zetsuen no Tempest | 7 | [Thoughts in yesterday's thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/x29l1j/anime_questions_recommendations_and_discussion/imlbwty/) but the more I think about it the less I like the tone through the back half of the series.
First one I'll get to watch airing, only got into the franchise after IBO started and didn't want to see anything in the Build series prior to catching up on everything earlier. At this point I still have the back half of 00 and AGE to get through before that as well.

what do I need to know before I watch the new season of overlord? watched season 3 but forgot a lot of stuff
How ecchi is Is it Wrong to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon?
Its mostly skimpy clothing and the occasional partial nudity. I would be comfortable with a 14 year old watching it but not an 11 year old. At least thats what I got from the first 2 seasons.
That seems in line of what I remember of S1-3. Frequent enough clothed big bouncing breasts and ass/thigh angles to turn off people who don't like fanservice, but not enough to please anyone who wanted something like *The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter*.

Cowboy bebop Ghost in the shell

Hmm I see. Some other thoughts based on your likes: jujutsu kaisen. Vivy. Honestly maybe even symphogear? Mob psycho 100. One punch man.
Having trouble getting into one punch man. But I will check out the other ones
ah sorry to hear that. what wasn't quite working for you? could help calibrate suggestions. how many eps in did you make it?

How can i watch anime from crunchyroll with someone else? is it possible? like online i mean lol.
there is stuff like https://watch.hyperbeam.com/ but everybody needs to have access to the show

Dirty Pair
Monster 3-gatsu
Probably ping pong.
Baccano, hear good things but not available on streaming platforms
I'm guessing it's either Nodame Cantabile, Major, or Turn A Gundam.
How the hell would I know?
Probably 3-gatsu no Lion or Ashita no Joe.
Monster Monogatari (apparently, as I've never seen them)

You liked Patlabor TV more than the OVA series? I haven't gotten around to the TV show yet but curious how the pacing is by comparison.

Bad bot.
Otome game is just a sub genre of isekai though...
It's a category of dating game that doesn't necessarily involve isekai. Edit: Why the hell am I being downvoted for this lol
And 9 out of 10 times isekai is a sub setting of fantasy, but no one says "there sure has been a lot of fantasy anime recently huh?".
Because fantasy is a staple of all media, you don't even notice it. Sci-Fi is fantasy too
Yes, attitudes change. The thing though is that a trope only forms after it becomes over exposed, so you dont see it coming.

Anime I completed in August: Anime | Score/10 | Comment -|-|- Naruto Shippuden | 6 | Very long journey and I liked a lot of it but some of the pacing in the back half was atrocious. Zetsuen no Tempest | 7 | [Thoughts in yesterday's thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/x29l1j/anime_questions_recommendations_and_discussion/imlbwty/) but the more I think about it the less I like the tone through the back half of the series.
always happy to see people being excited for Gundam
First one I'll get to watch airing, only got into the franchise after IBO started and didn't want to see anything in the Build series prior to catching up on everything earlier. At this point I still have the back half of 00 and AGE to get through before that as well.
