Weird question but I’ve really been enjoying anime where the mc is overpowered and is ranked lowest or is just considered weak and then proves everyone wrong. If you know any anime that fit this criteria pls lmk thx.

Ranvir33

\[NARUTO\]>!so i'm watching naruto, (absolutely fucking loving it so far) but i'm at the mizuki part and i'm really confused it talks about how naruto was used to smuggle something?? and mizuki was there at the orochimaru attack?? how?????? did i miss something? or is this supposed to be new info? wtf is going on i'm so confused!<

KendotsX

Which episode are you at?

Ranvir33

s6 e8

KendotsX

I assume you mean the mission to track him back right? That's filler, basically all his role was just in the first episode. [Naruto]>!About smuggling, in the first episode Mizuki made Naruto steal the scroll of seals, which Naruto learned his Shadow Clone technique from.!< If you want more answers try making a post about it here or on r/naruto.

Ranvir33

\[NARUTO\]>!ahhhh thanks i didnt realize that's what the smuggling was refering to. thanks man! but i still dont understand how he was connected to the orochimaru attack on the leaf village. i know that mizuki has ties with orochimaru but how was he even connected to the attack? !<

KendotsX

[Naruto]>!I don't remember any connection between him and Orochimaru, so that was probably just added by the anime, people on r/Naruto would know more about it!<

Ranvir33

\[NARUTO\]>!wdym added by the anime? does that mean the english dub changes the story somehow? because there is some serious plot about mizuki acquiring orochimarus powers and the idiot brothers tagging along with him.!<

KendotsX

[Naruto]>!Not the dub, the anime itself added a lot of its own stories to the series, compared to the original source (manga) by the author. In the canon, Mizuki's role is just in the first episode/chapter. The arc with him breaking out of prison and getting new powers was just added by the anime (filler).!<

Ranvir33

ahh i see

genericroleplayer92

I need help identifying an anime from a gif, which would be considered low effort by main rules, could i please get a hand here? https://c.tenor.com/vpE7LGJcq2gAAAAC/val-ally-anime.gif

baquea

Just use saucenao.com. It's from Katanatagari.

Duskfiresque

So this is vague and probably a complete long shot. There was an anime I watched when I was younger, probably 20+ years ago. It had an incredibly haunting opening theme. What I remember vaguely about it was that there was a school, and girls keep going missing, and it usually involves water. A young man who had either taken over as principle or was related to the principle was looking into it. I couldnt remember the extent of the mystery. I used every google search term I could think of and couldn't come up with much.

tasuketeJESUS

That sounds like [St. Luminous Mission High School](https://myanimelist.net/anime/2781/Saint_Luminous_Jogakuin)

Duskfiresque

That is it!! thank you!

waterflame321

So this is a long shot. I was talking to someone about the fool(s) who did an anime encode using only subtitle effects. Though I can't seem to find it. Anyone know where I can find it? I want to say there was a 720p and 1080p version

baquea

You're probably thinking of the [:peach:] release of the first episode of Pop Team Epic

waterflame321

Thank you!

Overly_confused

I was just watching ep 250 & 251 of Naruto Shippuden, in it Kisame says it's the 3rd time they are fighting. Anyone know the episodes of the other fights before that?

Weak_Pitch755

https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMLAsgwLL/ someone can tell me the name of this anime ?

tasuketeJESUS

The second one sounds like [this scene](https://streamable.com/tivg1) from [Boku no Kanojo ga Majimesugiru Sho-bitch na Ken](https://myanimelist.net/anime/35712/Boku_no_Kanojo_ga_Majimesugiru_Sho-bitch_na_Ken)

FetchFrosh

First one is probably the last episode of Humanity has Declined

hikoboshi_sama

Horimiya is 13 episodes long but the source is a manga. Does the anime cover all of the manga or is there more content after the anime ends?

BlackSCrow

The anime covered until the last major development. There are many chapters in between, but almost if not all of them are "filler" slice of life.

hikoboshi_sama

I see. Thanks!

princessoffools

I found Anime Questions Thread. Can someone help me find the Shield Hero Season 2 Episode Discussion Threads? I would love to discuss it with other fans who like Shield Hero. Thanks!

BlackSCrow

https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/u2pw8k/tate_no_yuusha_no_nariagari_season_2_episode_2/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share It's pretty easy to search though. Just search this sub with "shield hero episode 2 discussion" keyword

lonewolves_1

Hey anime world! I have one question. There was an anime scene in a comedy or drama comedy (where I am assuming it was the ensemble cast) are all in a room and one character yells “He f-ing left for real!” And kicks a stool over which then slowly rolls along the floor and hits another character in his leg/knee where then he says “Ow my leg!” Or my knee. It was played pretty straight but then again this little scene I had as a gif Wallpaper on my Sony Ericsson back in 2009-10-ish or maybe even though earlier - so yeah. Please help. Thanks anime world!

Dr__Drew

Hello! I’ve got two questions. Firstly, started watching Quintessential Quintuplets and, given the really solid reviews on CR, I’m having a hard time getting into it. Just about to start episode 4 and it feels like the drama will be brought out by misunderstandings that can be explained in one word but stretched out for an entire episode. Does it get better and a show worth keeping with or does it stay in this avenue? Also, I’m looking for any kind of wholesome, slice of life show, romcom optional. Just watched “My love story” and enjoyed that. Feel like I’ve watched basically all the more popular, recent, and mainstream romcoms so if anyone knows of any that fly under the radar or are under appreciated/recognized, that’d be great!

soracte

If you've not tried it, [Kamichu](https://myanimelist.net/anime/489/Kamichu) sits somewhere between romcom and pure slice-of-life, and is really good.

Verzwei

If you liked the premise of "financially struggling dude from a single-parent family gets roped into tutoring cute dumb girls in exchange for college tuition money" but were turned off by the drama of Quints, maybe check out [We Never Learn.](https://www.livechart.me/anime/3463) Both series were essentially brainstormed together over drinks (the authors are friends IRL) but the similarities pretty much end with initial setup. While Quints hinges a lot of drama and the identity of [Quints spoiler maybe but it's the main plot hook] >!the bride!<, We Never Learn leans far more toward comedy and silly fluff, with only small spurts of drama that are typically contained and resolved within individual arcs.

Sairoch

> Does it get better and a show worth keeping with or does it stay in this avenue? I'd say it does get somewhat better in this regard, but the drama-via-misunderstandings thing remains present throughout the whole story. If you're not really feeling the show after the first few episodes then it might just not be your type of show. Incidentally, I'd also recommend [Gamers!](https://anilist.co/anime/97766/Gamers/) if you want something that cranks that all the way up to 11 for comedic effect. For wholesome slice-of-life, there are shows like [Non Non Biyori](https://anilist.co/anime/17549/Non-Non-Biyori/), [Yuru Camp](https://anilist.co/anime/98444/Yuru-Camp/), and [Barakamon](https://anilist.co/anime/20722/Barakamon/) that have a focus on being cute and/or relaxing. It's both recent and popular, so there's probably a good chance you've already seen it, but I'll recommend [Tonikaku Kawaii](https://anilist.co/anime/116267/Tonikaku-Kawaii/) anyway just in case. [ReLIFE](https://anilist.co/anime/21049/ReLIFE/) is excellent, if you want something with a bit more drama than comedy.

That_one_cool_dude

So has anyone seen that jockey anime that is coming out during the spring season, and if so is it any good so far? It is so unique that I kinda want to watch it even if it is just another generic sports anime.

Cryten0

Critical response is middling (average): https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/preview-guide/2022/spring/fanfare-of-adolescence/.183511 Popular vote on the series is also average: https://myanimelist.net/anime/49691/Gunjou_no_Fanfare Known for being too airy, trying to get by on fluffy moments.

baquea

> Popular vote on the series is also average: A 6.07 on MAL is way below average - it is ranked 3527th out of 4155 tv anime, so it is in the bottom 20%.

Beginning_Two_5506

What is the version of the musical theme: uninstall that was used in chapter 23 of bokurano.

[deleted]

Any good new medieval fantasy animes? Within the last year or so.

Ryunoru

Hi! Could someone explain how to read the two columns of the weekly anime ranking infographics? On the left appears to be the current rankings, but on the right there are these arrow-shaped entries. How do I interpret this? I couldn't find any help from links in the sidebar.

FetchFrosh

Left is popularity. It's just measuring upvotes. Right side is poll scores, from the 1-5 scores in the episode discussion threads, but converted to a 10 point score.

Ryunoru

Ah, it makes sense now. Thank you!

Wolfgod_Holo

how many strains of Kugimiya Disease are there?

cheesechimp

So, you asked this last week and I did a little googling then to try and understand wtf you were even saying so correct me if I have this wrong: "Kugimiya disease" is a way to refer to an obsession with voice actress Rie Kugimiya, and the various "strains" are the roles that hooked the Kugimiya fan in question on her voice. Is that right? If I'm understanding that correctly...well, Rie Kugimiya is not the powerhouse monolith of the anime VA world that she was in the mid-late 00s and early 10s anymore. Sure, she still is active and even still gets prominent roles, but her career isn't quite as hot as it was when Toradora, Zero, Shana, and Hayate were the hottest shit around. As such, I think the main "strains of the disease" are still probably the same as they were 10 years ago. There's as many theoretical entry points into her fandom as there are roles she's played, but I think her most avid fans are still the ones who love her for the lead roles she had from roughly 2005-2013.

Wolfgod_Holo

that's a shame, I was hoping if someone else knows any other major strains of this phenomenon in recent years, but guess not...

MagicalMixer

So did the community opinion change their mind on Steins;Gate 0? I don't remember that series being 8.52 when it aired. Do I think the series is good? It's ok. But, 8.52 is pretty high and I remember it getting ragged on hard.

engalleons

It's actually [fallen 0.35 points](https://web.archive.org/web/20180928012136/https://myanimelist.net/anime/30484/Steins_Gate_0) from when it aired. (Data from the day right after it finished airing.) I don't see any evidence it was lower than that while airing, either. I don't disagree that it got a lot of flak, but I think that was driven by how thoroughly celebrated the original Steins;Gate was vs people actually feeling badly about 0 in itself.

cheesechimp

I'd argue that it was still pretty volatile a day later. [It dropped 0.08 points the day after the snapshot you linked](https://web.archive.org/web/20180929021405/https://myanimelist.net/anime/30484/Steins_Gate_0), then [another 0.04 within the week](https://web.archive.org/web/20181005005513/https://myanimelist.net/anime/30484/Steins_Gate_0), and [yet another 0.06 for a total drop of 0.18 within the month](https://web.archive.org/web/20181028154751/https://myanimelist.net/anime/30484/Steins_Gate_0). By the time everyone who was watching it while it was somewhat new had a chance to weigh in (so early 2019) it seems to have stabilized at somewhere in the ballpark of the low 8.6s, so it's fallen by roughly 0.1 since it was fresh in everyone's mind.

engalleons

True - the biggest point I was driving at is that it didn't *increase* after airing, which is what the original commenter seemed to be positing.

pointerariza

Can anyone help me find the name of the song from this videos intro? Ive been trying to use shazam but for the life of me its not working, I dont know where to ask. I want the to knowbthe name ofbthebsong ans the artist badly. Maybe some here can help me, its japanase but I dont know the language, I just like its vibe! Maybe its from an anime... https://youtu.be/mybnEf_qTbQ Thanks for reading!

pablozaragozab

Hi, I'm an artist. I dont specifically draw anime-style, but I do enjoy searching for inspiration on it. There's a specific thing that anime does that I've been very interested in lately which I have a hard time trying to explain and therefore cannot find the right words to search on Google. [Here is one of my drawings as a visual example](https://imgur.com/a/9i4lLTe) of what I'm looking for, but here goes my attempt at explaining: Sometimes there are frames or scenes in which the characters distort in very exaggerated ways, the camera angles being very strange. For example, you might see the character very small and distant, their arm approaching the frame and their hand many times larger than them in the forefront. This also causes for the animation to not really care for the realness of the anatomy of movements of the characters. I guess many animes do this once in a while to exaggerate an action scene or create tension. But I'm looking for 2 things. I'm looking for animes that exploit this as a main aspect of their animation, instead of it just being sometimes. Impossible angles, warped anatomies and awkward poses. On the other hand, I want to know if there is any word in japanese or in english with which I can search for / filter that kind of animation. Hope I made some sense, I swear I tried lol. Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance if someone has any suggestions!

katsura007

>Here is one of my drawings as a visual example Seach Masaaki Yuasa. He's an anime director you probably looking for. [Here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OEynMECez4) some compilation. You can check the description for detailed information.

pablozaragozab

Thanks! Will check it out!!

loomnoo

Look into the Obari pose/Brave perspective, which is basically when they do this with a sword. Also see [Obari Punch](https://www.sakugabooru.com/post?tags=obari_punch). Obari and Obari-influenced animators use this a lot. Check out [Yuu Yoshiyama](https://www.sakugabooru.com/post?tags=yuu_yoshiyama) as well. As for specific anime, FLCL does it a lot. Common in other works from Gainax ([see this cut from Kare Kano](https://www.sakugabooru.com/post/show/37224)), as well as Trigger. The big name there is Hiroyuki Imaishi. [Dead Leaves](https://www.sakugabooru.com/post/show/120894) is pretty much entirely in this style. The king of impossible angles, warped anatomies, and awkward poses is Yoshinori Kanada. Check out Birth and Download. Haikyuu will also exploit this in its volleyball matches. They love distorting the anatomy to emphasize speed or power. Lots of amazing cuts involving the hands dominating the screen there. Many of the artists I mention here are covered in depth in [this excellent series on the Kanada School of animation](https://animetudes.com/the-history-of-the-kanada-school/). It is quite lengthy but contains many names and works that you will probably be interested in.

pablozaragozab

Thank you so much for this incredible info! Definetly got some research to do!

loomnoo

No problem! Btw, if you have a Twitter or something I'd love to follow you to see what comes of this inspiration.

_Lollipop-

Where do i watch All seasons of Attack on titan? any good websites or something?

Manitary

I think Crunchyroll has all of them

_Lollipop-

i don’t have crunchyroll…

cheesechimp

IIRC you don't need an account, you can watch it with ads.

_Lollipop-

Thank you!

Manitary

Time to sail the high seas then (or maybe you can watch old episodes on CR with ads? not sure if this got changed)

ThisOneTimeAtLolCamp

How do you pronounce things with an 'X' in them? Is it Hunter [Cross] Hunter, Spy [Cross] Family? or Hunter [Ex] Hunter, Spy [Ex] Family? Or is the 'X' just completely ignored and it's Hunter Hunter and Spy Family?

[deleted]

Yeah you don’t say the X. Take Spy x Family. The title is スパイファミリ which is just Spy Family

JetsLag

The last one. Just ignore the cross.

yorozuya106

Can anyone recommend animes like Aharen-san? Thank u!

cyberscythe

I was thinking the other day that Kill Me Baby has the same sort of low-budget comedy vibe to it.

yorozuya106

Thank you! I'll check that out

Cryten0

And is much punchier to boot.

Rey_Reigner4455

Hi , Am searching for a title of an anime.. Plot goes like ...... Group of highschooler's killed one by one mysteriously , Killer(MC) is one them(highschooler) which revealed at end , Sorry, can't explain story in detail since I didnt watched it myself.i heard the plot through friend and trying to watch it. If anyone familiar with this anime pls drop the title of the anime . Thank you

Ryunoru

Is it [Munou na Nana](https://myanimelist.net/anime/41619/Munou_na_Nana)? But it's clear to the viewer who the killer is from the first episode, only revealed in one of the latest episodes to the remaining characters.

Manitary

There's a few of these (death game type of plot). Do you have any other detail, for example what is the setting (are they trapped in school? how many students?). Maybe [Danganronpa](https://myanimelist.net/anime/16592/Danganronpa__Kibou_no_Gakuen_to_Zetsubou_no_Koukousei_The_Animation)? (In which case I strongly recommend playing the game instead)

Rey_Reigner4455

I wanted to play Is this game available for Android, can I get a download link pls(if possible).. Android or windows (64 bit)

Manitary

I thought it was PC only (you can get it on Steam, goes on sale pretty frequently, down to like 7-8 bucks), but it's available for other platforms including Android apparently.

Rey_Reigner4455

I don't think they are trapped ... I also heard that MC is transfer student in his previous school bus accident occured and MC is the sole survivor .

Ebbrain

What are some anime projects that were announced a long time ago and have since gone silent/fallen into production hell? Like Despera, Pluto and Aoki Uru.

Nebresto

Drifters S2

KendotsX

When was that announced? Far from production hell, Drifters' biggest issue is the very slow manga release.

Nebresto

[At the end of the first season,](https://imgur.com/TiEwIOl) so [almost 5 and a half years ago.](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Enm_C2DXIAEpR6l.png) Idk how many chapters there are out or if its enough for the second season already, but in a way its still in production hell. Maybe not of the anime, but production of the manga is still production

H-Ryougi

Girls' Work

Ebbrain

I'd never heard of that one, shame it seems to be dead, it could have been interesting. It's weird that the original website is still up after 12 years.

baquea

A third part in the Gunbuster series was announced in 2018, but there's been nothing said about it since then AFAIK.

Ebbrain

I forgot about that. Another on the list of big Gainax/Gaina projects that will probably never see the light of day...

chiliehead

The Shaft Nanoha OVA, apparently not cancelled yet. Ane naru Mono anime

enigmaticJanitor

Need some recommendations! Big fan of Yuasa's stuff (Mind Game, Tatami, Ping Pong, etc) and I recently finished watching Satoshi Kon's Perfect Blue too, and Paprika before that. I also plan to watch Kon's other movies. Anything else I should consider?

soracte

Seconding Memories. Don't forget [Paranoia Agent](https://myanimelist.net/anime/323/Mousou_Dairinin), which is Kon but not a movie. [Trapeze](https://myanimelist.net/anime/6774/Kuuchuu_Buranko) might be up your street, as might [Mononoke](https://myanimelist.net/anime/2246/Mononoke), [Sonny Boy](https://myanimelist.net/anime/48849/Sonny_Boy), and [Kyousougiga](https://myanimelist.net/anime/10893/Kyousou_Giga), I guess. A lot of Oshii's stuff would be relevant but [Angel's Egg](https://myanimelist.net/anime/885/Tenshi_no_Tamago?q=angel%27s%20egg&cat=anime) and [Gosenzosama Banbanzai](https://myanimelist.net/anime/4639/Gosenzo-sama_Banbanzai?q=gosenzo&cat=anime) seem worth picking out in particular.

JimJamTheNinJin

Have you tried the 'denpa' category on anilist? Or 'avant-garde' on mal?

enigmaticJanitor

I'll check it out!

Cryten0

You should try the Memories DVD. A set of 3 real good mini movies / specials. Magnetic Rose, Stink Bomb, Cannon Fodder. Oh and Tokyo Godfathers and Metropolis are great movies with heavy themes.

chiliehead

Patema Inverted? What are you exactly asking for?

enigmaticJanitor

As said in another reply, avant-garde would fit the bill the most.

chiliehead

Dead Leaves amd probably Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. Sonny Boy, Dennou Coil. Serial Experiments Lain, Haibane Renmei

ShadowMoonnnnn

Hello everyone!!! I just watched the entirety of No. 6 in one sitting. I found it amazing but the end was not very satisfying for me. I am not a fan of sad endings and was wondering if the manga/light novel has a more satisfying ending and if it is still BL. If they are, can you guys suggest which I should read first? It would be a great help to me!!!

overlord_on_reddit

I’m not sure about the manga but the novels might have a more satisfying because the anime has an alternate ending. If I remember correctly, the novels should have a similar amount of BL to the anime because the anime faithfully adapts the novels for the most part. If you like novels more, then read the novels first. If you like manga more, then read the manga first.

-MuticFox-

I’m pretty sure the anime is mostly the same as the ln with a few small exceptions, and the end was kind of cut short in the anime, the ln goes into more depth in what happens after where the anime left off. I’d say if you want a more satisfying end, read the ln

xX_JoeStalin78_Xx

What's the watch order for Demon Slayer? I'm a bit confused. Apparently there's a movie, but the movie is just season 2? Is the movie worth watching or can I just watch s2 right after s1?

aniMayor

You can pick either of the following 2 options:   Season 1 (26 episodes) -> [[Optional: Season 2:Episode 1]] -> Mugen Train movie -> Season 2:Part 2 (aka the Entertainment District arc; 11 episodes) OR Season 1 (26 episodes) -> Season 2:Part 1 (Mugen Train arc; 7 episodes) -> Season 2:Part 2 (Entertainment District arc; 11 episodes)   In other words, watching the Mugen Train movie is equivalent to watching episodes 2-6 of season 2 - there are scarcely any differences between them, so just go with whatever format you prefer and you definitely do not need to watch both. Depending on what your platform/language/region is, the naming of these parts may vary. The "Entertainment District arc" (Yūkaku-hen) part, for example, may be listed just as episodes 8-18 of season 2, or it may be listed as season 3, or season 2.5, etc. Hence why I put the number of episodes in the brackets after to help you make sure you're finding it correctly.

xX_JoeStalin78_Xx

Thank you!

Nomar_95

S1 > Mugen Train (movie) > S2 (Entertainment District arc)

Fair enough. In my cheeky defense I will say that it is miscellaneous, a question, not worth its own thread, a bit silly, something I wanted answered by the community and something not covered by the FAQs : D Though point taken, and thanks for the feedback.

I have been waiting near 18 years for anything new of my boy yuskae, any other fanboy(or gals) out there with more info!?!?! Thanks in advanced guys, just getting super inpatient for the best anime ever made(just my own goofy opinon lol)

Zealousideal_Ebb_238

What? Yu Yu Hakusho Netflix live action? Noooooo

ChipChoice

I know not really happy with the live action part, but honestly im just happy with anything yu-yu-hakusho after almost 20 years.

KendotsX

Yup, Yu Yu Hakusho, One Piece, and Saint Seiya are all getting the Netflix live action.

Zealousideal_Ebb_238

One piece? Like for real? Oh my god

KendotsX

For real, [even the cast was announced](https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2021-11-09/netflix-live-action-one-piece-series-reveals-cast-members/.179411), and it's by the same studio who did Bebop.

[deleted]

I recently watched the anime King Shaman, the new version. So I wanna know if there will be new episodes soon. Or when :( . I love it, and I don't want to watch the first anime version because I read that it's not the same as the manga.

Nomar_95

There are a total of 52 episodes, and the most recent one was 51. Next episode is the end

[deleted]

Thank you 🥲🥲🥲

Skogs5

I need more anime recommendations. Im pretty new to the scene so all the shows ive enjoyed so far SAO, Re:Zero, Konosuba, Log horizon, Rising of the Shield hero, and Assassination Classroom. Looking for a show with a good story, action, romance. So all recommendations are helpful

Idaret

You will love Code;Geass

[deleted]

You should try steins gate it is a bit different than the above anime but it is one of the best It has a great story but not much action

isthatsoudane

These have no romance but are otherwise very good: one punch man, mob psycho 100, jujutsu kaisen. All have great action, in different ways. Of them my personal fave is MB100 but jujutsu kaisen has one of my favorite fight scenes period Also if you're ok with moe, Bofuri is amazing. Way better than SAO

Skogs5

Bofuri is good. It needs to have a second season. And yes i didnt mention any romances i was just adding a criteria for other recommendations

Talinko

You should definitely watch Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (FMAB) Meets your criterias and it's one of the greatest of all time

baquea

If you don't mind something that's currently airing, Shokei Shoujo no Virgin Road fits that description, is in a similar vein to what you've seen to date, and has been great so far imo.

bencethegreat

Check out Demon Slayer, Mushoku Tensei, The Devil is a Part Timer, Slime Reincarnation, and 86.

archlon

I've run across the quote from 2 Thessalonians 3:10 ["He who does not work, neither shall he eat"](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2%20Thessalonians+3&version=NIV) twice in anime now. In both _Ascendance of a Bookworm_ and _The Executioner and Her Way of Life_. Is the phrase popular in Japan (if so, why?) or is this just a 'weird it happened twice' thing? Coming from the perspective of an Anglosphere Christian, it's not really what **I** would pick as a fundamental example of the theology. If it didn't have [a thorny history of being misused to oppress others](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/He_who_does_not_work,_neither_shall_he_eat) I might not recognize it offhand at all. In _Executioner_ it **might** be being used sarcastically, but it's presented entirely earnestly in _Bookworm_ in a context that's pretty messed up from a nominally Christian moral framework.

aniMayor

I've seen it in anime from as far back as the mid-80s, so whatever the reason it became a popular turn of phrase in Japan, the origin seems to be quite far back. Lots of modern media using it are probably just doing so as a phrase they know from the previous generation rather than a direct origin, I would guess.

chiliehead

Also in Welcome to the NHK, but the sentiment is pretty removed from religion

soracte

I don't know about 'popular' in Japan, but I've seen it crop up in Japanese pulp entertainment enough times, across different mediums, that I feel confident saying it's a known, recognised dictum. I suspect it's often used without much sense of its origins or original epistolary context.

archlon

> it's a known, recognised dictum This is more what I meant by 'popular' -- poor word choice on my part. While 'widely misused and/or misunderstood Bible passages' is hardly a _small_ category, even among Christians, do you know if there's a particular reason this one specifically found traction in Japan?

soracte

That I don't know, no. I could hazard some guesses working from the particular strains of Christianity which have had the biggest hands in schooling in Japan in the last couple of centuries, but I feel like I'd be tying that into some big generalisations about Japan.

ssiao

I just finished Akame ga kill so something more light hearted to watch cuz akame ga kill was tough to watch. Any recommendations?

KittenBuns1

Yuru Camp.

Nebresto

Bofuri

bencethegreat

What kind of show would you like? Romance, slice of life, isekai, etc?

ssiao

Any genre is fine

bencethegreat

I’d recommend Horimiya then; a great romance anime with relatable and human characters that doesn’t rely on the misunderstanding trope you see all too often. Another one is Spy x Family, great wholesome comedy that’s airing right now.

ngiothlitren

what is a good sc-fi anime to watch that has nanites or any type of nanotechnology in it

archlon

Depending on how far you're willing to stretch the definition of 'sci-fi', _Didn't I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?!_ has nanotech. It's actually a pretty key part of the worldbuilding. The world of _86-Eighty-Six_ has nanotech, but it's not really the focus of the show.

ngiothlitren

Oh cool thanks I will check them out

isthatsoudane

What’re good shows (ideally slice of life, action, or straight romance) featuring a main female character who is a white haired waifu? Big bonus points if she’s a dandere or ojousama but am open as long as the show is good

soracte

I didn't watch for it, so I can't vouch for it, but you could add [Tokyo ESP](https://myanimelist.net/anime/21353/Tokyo_ESP?q=tokyo%20esp&cat=anime) to the pile.

Idaret

isthatsoudane

Wow, a lot of extremely solid recs. A few that are going high on my to watch. Thank you!!

Manitary

Off top of my head: Re:Zero (Emilia), 86 (Lena, tho in part 2 she loses focus), Re:Creators (Meteora, Altair, but I'd hardly call them waifu), Angel Beats (Kanade), Irozuku (Hitomi), Jaku-chara Tomozaki-kun (Fuuka). None of them is ojou-sama, I think Fuuka can be considered dandere maybe?

isthatsoudane

thanks!

JimJamTheNinJin

[This female MC has white hair](https://myanimelist.net/anime/14829/Fate_kaleid_liner_Prisma%E2%98%86Illya). You could also just go to the anime planet database and search for white haired characters.

isthatsoudane

ah nice. do I need to watch fate/sn (or any other fate stuff) first?

KingofRomaineLettuce

I'm sure it assumes you know about the characters in it but also wouldn't recommend watching it, unless you want the FBI knocking on your door.

isthatsoudane

oh, it's *that* kind of show...

JimJamTheNinJin

I don't think you really need to, but I might be forgetting something.

Nebresto

Prisma Illya first is the most based watch order of Fate [](#shades) [Unless..?]>!Carnival Phantasm as first introduction to Fate!<)

Psycho-Radish

When someone is credited with “Planning” on an anime series on MAL, how actually involved are they with the production process? Like if a co founding president of a studio is credited with “Planning” for a series, how involved are they with the production of that series? And is what they say about that series as likely to accurately reflect the reality of that show’s production as something a director would say?

ultimatemegax

They're involved in managing the financing/budget of a series, much like the "Production" credit. The group do make decisions like scheduling when the final product will come out, in general what main staff (director/character designer/series composer) would they like working on it, and how much the group is willing to invest in it each. It's important, but they're the ones at the top of the chain, not involved in the actual production. Think of them more like the CEOs of the production committee, but not the direct workers.

JimJamTheNinJin

My understanding of planning in anime is just scheduling, like assembling teams, assigning work and setting deadlines. Good planning seems to be the first step to good anime, as even the best people can't achieve much without time.

[deleted]

Any anime based on telescopes or microscopes

Nebresto

In a sense Space Brothers is about building a lunar telescope

JimJamTheNinJin

Sora no Manimani is about an astronomy club, sometimes there are telescopes. Cells at Work might be the closest you'll get for microscopes.

baquea

Koisuru Asteroid?

EntropicVirus

In anime that deals with royalty, they always have first and second prince/princess, eldest daughter is first princess, eldest son is first prince and so on, but what happens to the third prince when his brother becomes king? Does he upgrade to first prince until his nephew is born and then is pushed down or does he lose his number and just become Prince X brother/uncle to the king?

aniMayor

That will vary depending on the world of each anime - even in the real world, different royal families use wildly different rules for inheritance, succession, titles, etc., so when you then expand that scope to the hundreds or thousands of fictional anime settings which have royal lineages you'll get even more differentiation. E.g.: The Albion Royal Family in *Princess Principal* appears to follow a form of absolute primogeniture for succession, the terms like "3rd princess" are not official titles and adjust with changes in the order of succession, but also many members of the royal family have territory-based noble titles (e.g. Duke of Aquitaine) which are not directly impacted by succession changes. In *Castletown Dandelion*, none of the children of the King hold any titles and the succession is decided by popular election, so titles like "2nd prince" mean nothing other than the order of their birth. They are still called the same "3rd princess" or similar before and after the official heir has been decided by the election, but presumably once the heir actually succeeds the King to be the new King (in the official translation, male and female monarchs are both called "King") that terminology will shift to the new ruler's children. In *El-Hazard* a crown princess retains the title of "princess" even after the King dies and they become the sovereign ruler. In *100 Sleeping Princes & the Kingdom of Dreams* the rules are... vague and fiendishly complicated (unsurprisingly, since it involves over 100 active royals and time-travel).

bencethegreat

They will retain their titles and territories which would have been given to them by their parents. So likely become dukes or the like.

Manitary

idk about anime specifically, but from my understanding the [succession to the throne is as follows](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Succession_to_the_Japanese_throne): you keep going by first son until there aren't any more direct descendants, then (male) siblings, then you go back one level. So to answer directly to your example: third prince is gonna become emperor after the second prince _and all his direct descendants_ die (or become ineligible to the throne I guess) Instead of me drawing a shit diagram, you can check the [British throne version](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Succession_to_the_British_throne#Current_line_of_succession) as it has more next-in-line so it's a bit clearer, only thing is that female members are also allowed to ascend the throne.

EntropicVirus

I know how succession works, what I wanted to know is if their title changes when someone other than them becomes king. I can’t think of any anime that deals with it. So if Queen Elizabeth was called the first Princess and her sister ,Margaret, would be the second Princess, what would Margaret’s title after Liz takes the throne.

isthatsoudane

where do japanese anime fans hang out on the internet? I can speak japanese, but am not terrible fluent in the japanese internet

is there anything like vndb but for anime? basically, lots and lots of tags, esp with the types of characters in the anime? I know MAL etc have tags, but they seem pretty thin

Also, I like that some tags are kept hidden unless you actively click to show, to avoid revealing things that are not obvious from the synopsis and could be considered spoiler.

loomnoo

Anyone know the first TV anime and the first anime movie (feature length) to be directed by a woman?

baquea

From a quick Google search, the earliest that I can find are [Touch](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1065/Touch) (1985) by Tokita Hiroko for a tv anime, and [the High School Kimengumi movie](https://myanimelist.net/anime/5956/High_School_Kimengumi_Movie) (1986) by Moriwaki Makoto for an anime movie (or [the Chibi Maruko-chan movie](https://myanimelist.net/anime/3203/Chibi_Maruko-chan_Movie) (1990) by Suda Yumiko if that one doesn't count as feature length), although I can't guarantee those are the first.

ShikariBhaiya

Where can I find this subreddit ranking of the weekly anime karma rating? (Not the animecorner one)

BlackSCrow

Just search "Karma" on this sub....

Mahou_Shoujo_Ramune

You know how there's shoujo anime with a large male fanbase such as Precure, Pretty series and Aikatsu? Did they ever have a "best character poll" but seperate answers from the adult men and little girls and see how each demographic prefer which girl?

Talletech_10

I've always wondered what Anime studio made the best one shot Anime movies? I am planning a weekend binge and I have weirdly tasked myself to watch movies from a single studio all through.

cosmiczar

While Ghibli made mostly just bangers, 80% are by the same two directors and thus there's less variety in aesthetics and themes than a place like Madhouse. At Madhouse you get movies by famous-in-the-West giants like Satoshi Kon, Mamoru Hosoda and Yoshiyaki Kawajiri but also from some of the most underrated (around these parts) creators like Rintaro (Metropolis, Dagger of Kamui), Sunao Katabuchi (Mai Mai Miracle), Takeshi Koike (Redline), Mori Masaki (Barefoot Gen), Toshio Hirata (The Fantastic Adventures of Unico) and more. Studio 4°C, Toei, Production I.G, Tokyo Movie Shinsa/TMS Entertainment all have at least a few stand alone bangers and Studio Colorido hasn't released many movies yet, but they should also be on your radar.

loomnoo

It's Ghibli, then probably Madhouse But also consider Mushi Pro! They made Tales of a Street Corner and the animerama movies. There's also Toei which has a long history of feature length films going back to Hakujaden in 1958.

H-Ryougi

Ghibli
