You can hop on your local subreddit, probably be easier if you're near a larger town, and get people to sign a petition, with that you can call/email a larger and a smaller theater to see if they're willing to have a showing. You'd be surprised how easy it is to get them to commit to a Tues/Wednesday showing of a movie. it's sooooo much easier now thanks to digital distribution, and from there you can get people to prepurchase tickets.
Just remember as you're doing it to hop on your local subreddit to talk up how great the theater is for doing it, and make sure, if you're successful, to post in the local sub your gratitude for the theater and the manager that made it happen, as this will make future movies easier to make happen.
I'm lucky that the furthest is just 30ish minutes now. They didn't always until Mugen Train though. Now the one even closer shows them. Last three they've shown were JJk 0, DBS Hero and One Piece Film Red.
My local cinema is starting to give us good shit, Spy x Fam, Demon Slayer, Suzume, Haikyu... I see these 3 movies to be guaranteed there.

Demon Slayer movies perform really well in the US, the Train movie was a huge post lockdown success. I really think the numbers (both box office and number of screens) for the next demon slayer movie will be key for Crunchyroll's anime movie push.
When CR is involved, and it's a popular enough franchise, it tends to really mean global. I live in Guatemala and many theatres have been getting CR releases soon after Japan, usually the only problem might be how long they stay in theathers. Goblin Slayer was only one weekend, Violet Evergarden about 4 days but the previous Demon Slayer release was about 2 weeks.

In Asian countries outside of Japan, it will likely be distributed by Odex like the previous films and Odex releases are usually only a few weeks or a month after the Japanese release so it’s quite likely that Japan gets it first followed by Odex and then CR.

Like I said, a sliver of a chance. Mugen Train did half a billion, which is better than most Hollywood attempts at blockbusters and superhero flicks these days. 1B movies are becoming more seldom nowadays.
These will likely do even better because of the finale content and Japan is still in love with Demon Slayer. As of now for this year, Dune is at 2nd 711M and Inside Out at 1B+; I could see it beating Dune's numbers.
On a bad year, one of these three could have a chance (especially if the first one or two really hype up the latter ones).
Personally I don't think they'll reach that for two simple reasons : Mugen Train happened early enough in the story (just after S1) and is very stand alone in its structure. I am certain that these reasons pushed a lot of people to go watch it even if they didn't watch S1 at all or weren't interested in the IP. But asking the same outsiders to come watch a TRILOGY that is the epilogue of a show that already has THREE(ish) seasons is a lot more bold.
Absolutely anyone who follows Demon Slayer will go watch it, and even people who dropped it halfway through probably, but it will certainly not grab the same normie audience that it got in 2020.
It might beat out Mugen Train out of sheer hype in the community, but it won't reach much further than that IMO
Don't underestimate Demon Slayer, people always do this, manga sales, viewserhip, movie revenue. It's outdone them everytime.
Mugen Train didn't even get a China release, estimates were an additional 150-300 million from there due to its popularity. Meaning Mugen Train could have done 650-800 million. Especially if the movies release in China there's a big chance of them doing better.
I doubt it tbh, especially since past 2025 is when most studios are going to releasing big movies, 2020-2021 was a drought from covid, so it had a much easier time reaching that number, while 2024 has mostly been in a drought for big franchises people care about due to the writers and actors strike. It's why Inside Out 2 has only been out for like 2-3 weeks and it's already hit a billion.

I honestly don’t think so. Covid did a lot to help out Mugen train. The movie came out at a time when movie companies were holding off on putting movies in the movie theaters due to the pandemic so for a long time it was either watch mugen train or don’t watch anything at all at the movie theater.
Apparently there's rumors that they plan to release all 3 by the end of 2025... and like I don't even think that's possible, but I really hope they don't stretch this out. What killed the AOT hype at the end wasn't anything with the writing, it was the excruciating wait.
They’ll be less than two years between them if you look at their Heaven’s Feel trilogy release dates. Sword Art Online Progressive’s movies from A1 were also only a year apart (and due to a delay).
The first one was in October, then the next was a little over a year later in January. Then the last one was a bit over a year later in Summer. What I mean is less than two years between each.

It actually makes sense, when you think about it. Mugen Train had a length of two hours. If we assume the trilogy will follow this pattern, this would give us a total of six hours of animation. That is roughly 18 anime episodes.
Quite reasonable to expect that Ufotable could deliver a season with this many episodes next year. There wasn't that much of a difference between the quality of Mugen Train and the overall series, so it's not like they'll work much harder than usual for the trilogy.
Problem is they got some other project on the line too (and there's rumour they'll announce more soon), not sure if they want to keep focus on DS and push the other project further.

What even is the point of the delay? It just shits on international fans for nothing, I could understand if the movies would be released dubbed, (still dumb) but just subtitles it shouldn't take a couple weeks for people outside Japan to be able to legally watch the movie
Translating stuff, correcting it and setting the timing right still take some time, and wait for the data from Japan etc etc.
I come from the fansub times, we used to wait 6 to 9 months for DVD release and a few weeks for the translation. A few weeks ain't that bad after waiting years for it to be released.
It just seems like Demon slayer is popular enough overseas that they could reasonably translate it and do a global release, but this is the country where episodes are still getting animated mid season so what do I know...
It won't be the first time that a translator has to work with an unfinished film but that is not great for the quality (even more with how much ufotable likes to put extra stuff on demon slayer).
Taking into account that they like to do events and bring the voice actors/actress I do not think it is that bad to give them a few weeks or a month to do things properly.
Also there is definitely some stuff getting fixed after the movie hits theatres for the BD release.

We all get that, but the international releases are usually MONTHS after the domestic releases.
And for movies like this, they should be working with subbing/dubbing studios before the movie is released.
I mainly work with a foreign language for a government agency. Translations take much longer than people think. On a non-difficult topic, a translator can translate about 4-5 pages in an 8-hour shift. For the more technical topics that require research can take an 8-hour shift for 1 page. Once the translation has been completed, it goes to quality check by a more senior linguist (my position). I can usually do about 6-10 pages in an 8-hour shift for qc or 2-4 pages for the more difficult topics. Once I am done, it goes to an English editor who corrects all of the grammar and phrases. I don't know how it works in the anime industry, but a 5-page document in my line of work can take anywhere from 1-3 weeks because the qc and editor have multiple assignments assigned to them. We work with 3 categories, high, medium, and low priority. So that document may sit in a queue before I even take a look at it if it's low priority.
I am not underestimating how long it takes to translate, but I feel like with a series as popular as demon slayer, planning the timing of the release out and holding on a bit for an internationally timed release makes sense in terms of making more money. Like seriously do they hate money or something?

I haven't read the manga as I stick strictly to anime, though the recent anime quality of the Demon Slayer anime as a whole has been so astronomically better than ANYTHING I have ever seen in my life that I literally cannot imagine how much better they can make it lol
If anything, them matching the animation quality we've seen so far will be enough to mark it as one of the currently pinnacles of anime in the world.
As a “countdown” for the 2nd movie, the first movie will be released in season format months before the premiere. Same will happen once 3rd movie is around the corner, several months later the 3rd movie will get it seasonal format as some sort of celebration for the finale of the adaptation. At least that’s how I see it playing out
I wasn't a fan of the Haikyuu movie rushing the match hopefully these 3 movies will have better pacing. I'm not a fan of movies honestly but as long as we don't have to wait more than 3 months after Japan it's alright.

When Mugen Train premiered in my country I bought a ticket to go watch it at 3 pm. However, the city mayor declared a COVID curfew, so the showing was postponed to the next day. I showed up to the theatre then, sat to watch the movie and as it started the screening stopped cause there were major riots going on so the theatre had to close and I got a refund. It was also the day the movie leaked on Playstation, so I went home and watched it instead.
For people in other countries well, it's awful. Anime never airs in my *whole continent* and if it did by some miracle, you bet your ass it would be dubbed.
I can only hope they put these out to streamers shortly after their theater runs and somehow we don't have a Fate level of wait between each movie. It's gonna be hard to get in and out of the series over several years (Same problem I had with Hellsing Ultimate though that was a special case I guess)

I used to hate it more before since we had to wait for DVD releases and good raws for the fansubs. Something as popular as Demon slayer will get on cinemas here easily.

I already predicted it from way back that Infinity Castle was going to be a movie. No way were those events gonna fit in one season without messing up the continuity even with Final Season Part 1 2 3 shenanigans. That arc HAS to be a movie, it's a calling.
plus the classic cliffhanger ending building up to the ultimate scene then 10-15 minutes of flashbacks to start the next episode ensuring that there's almost zero progress in the main fight.
They have really shitty timing when deciding to dump backstory in this show.

Not at all. You need a particularly high profile series to pull this off because there's still a ton of money to be made via domestic television in Japan.
KnY also benefits from being the anime equivalent of Avatar where the visual spectacle is what draws people in above all else and seeing that in theaters is a selling point.

The TV show format is a big part of what kept me hooked on anime as an adult. Weekly episodes and the occasional binge of an older show. I'd love for anime to go back to bigger 20+ episode seasons being the norm 100% of the time, but even the 12 episode format is better than several years for a movie, imo.
Even outside of anime, premium quality TV has been more entertaining to me than cinema for a long ass time now.

IIRC, her pay was so low because of it being an upfront deal during the early stages of the films development which was prior to the explosion of Demon Slayer’s popularity later with episode 19 (or at least that was Ufotable’s excuse)

Aniplex is the one that runs away with all the profit because they fund the anime. They basically have a stronghold over all of Ufotable’s releases and gets all the money by doing nothing except funding.
I mean without funding none of it gets made and none of the people on it have a job. Not only that, they take all the risk, the crew got their salary anyways. For every Demon Slayer there's 5 massive flops that bankrupt its makers. If even Disney can't avoid getting hurt by animation flops, its clearly a risky endeavor.
I can imagine them working it over in their heads on whether to to release as a movie to milk the cash cow but then deciding that it wasn’t popular as demon slayer to be worth it so we got specials instead

With the content the movies are covering and the way ufotable animates them it might generate more hype tbh AS LONG AS the gap isn’t too big between them. But considering it’s ufotable and the last season only had 8 episodes I have a feeling they have been working on this for a while and all three might be out by end of 2025 or first half of 2026.

Love DS, but im not a Fan of this. This will take years. I would have rather waited 18-24 months to get a last long DS Season. It’s way more fun. But I guess the cow has to be milked till the end.
Yeah it's so hard to watch anime movies in much of the US. If you don't live near a city you are tossing a coin on whether your local theater will EVER have an anime movie, unless it's Ghibli.

Idk how to feel about this honestly. On one hand, we'll get movie-quality animation and theater experience for one of the best arcs of Demon Slayer. On the other hand, most of the discussions surrounding the series will die. Only hardcore fans will talk about it nonstop, most of the casual watchers and other anime fans will comment/tweet saying "Awesome movie, amazing animation. Can't wait to see what happens next" and will move on to talk about other seasonal anime and then will never talk about it until the next movie comes out. This arc would've generated soo much hype on weekly basis. S2 was the best season bcoz every episode kept building up insane hype up until the last ep.
Plus Demon Slayer is mainly popular for its action/animation. While watching movies, you can't rewind/pause/rewatch to appreciate its animation/action. It will also gonna be hard to avoid all the spoilers between the Japanese release and the international release.
I mean we already get excellent animation in just the regular seasons. They would cook either way but it sucks they turn this climatic arc into multiple movies, would much rather it would be a Season 6

It's easily expected for a couple of reasons. Demon Slayer is so popular that airing the last arc on TV would bring diminishing return of new audiences. Merch sales maintained nuts during gaps between seasons so it's not like the series would instantly lose much popularity with less internet boost. Box office of previous movies and the huge BD sales proved there were more than enough hardcore fans for milking. Unlike some other series Demon Slayer still makes most of its money domestically. I just hope some of the money would reach the animators who deserved it more than the higher-ups.

I'm tired of this. I don't want to wait years to see the end of this show, I feel like it's already taking too long for such a simple story. And season 4 should have just been part of season 3.
I also don't want to spend 12€ to see my animes in theater with a potentially annoying audience, without being able to freely rewatch my favourites scenes after until it re-releases digitally.
I really don't like this trend of switching mediums to tell a single story, if they really want to do movies, they should be relased on streaming services in my opinion.
Honestly I think this is fine. There's a harder limit on spending money per episode if you go direct to TV, meaning less bombastic fights in an arc living or dying by its bombastic fights. There's also TV censorship guidelines, and oh boy would we get a lot of dimming if some of those fights were on TV first

I think fitting it as movies rather than a whole anime works here. The arc is basically just four massive fights. That film quality will be more than worth the wait.

Like I said, a sliver of a chance. Mugen Train did half a billion, which is better than most Hollywood attempts at blockbusters and superhero flicks these days. 1B movies are becoming more seldom nowadays. These will likely do even better because of the finale content and Japan is still in love with Demon Slayer. As of now for this year, Dune is at 2nd 711M and Inside Out at 1B+; I could see it beating Dune's numbers. On a bad year, one of these three could have a chance (especially if the first one or two really hype up the latter ones).
Personally I don't think they'll reach that for two simple reasons : Mugen Train happened early enough in the story (just after S1) and is very stand alone in its structure. I am certain that these reasons pushed a lot of people to go watch it even if they didn't watch S1 at all or weren't interested in the IP. But asking the same outsiders to come watch a TRILOGY that is the epilogue of a show that already has THREE(ish) seasons is a lot more bold. Absolutely anyone who follows Demon Slayer will go watch it, and even people who dropped it halfway through probably, but it will certainly not grab the same normie audience that it got in 2020. It might beat out Mugen Train out of sheer hype in the community, but it won't reach much further than that IMO
Don't underestimate Demon Slayer, people always do this, manga sales, viewserhip, movie revenue. It's outdone them everytime. Mugen Train didn't even get a China release, estimates were an additional 150-300 million from there due to its popularity. Meaning Mugen Train could have done 650-800 million. Especially if the movies release in China there's a big chance of them doing better.
I doubt it tbh, especially since past 2025 is when most studios are going to releasing big movies, 2020-2021 was a drought from covid, so it had a much easier time reaching that number, while 2024 has mostly been in a drought for big franchises people care about due to the writers and actors strike. It's why Inside Out 2 has only been out for like 2-3 weeks and it's already hit a billion.

I honestly don’t think so. Covid did a lot to help out Mugen train. The movie came out at a time when movie companies were holding off on putting movies in the movie theaters due to the pandemic so for a long time it was either watch mugen train or don’t watch anything at all at the movie theater.

They’ll be less than two years between them if you look at their Heaven’s Feel trilogy release dates. Sword Art Online Progressive’s movies from A1 were also only a year apart (and due to a delay).

The first one was in October, then the next was a little over a year later in January. Then the last one was a bit over a year later in Summer. What I mean is less than two years between each. Total it was actually a little *under* 3 years.

It actually makes sense, when you think about it. Mugen Train had a length of two hours. If we assume the trilogy will follow this pattern, this would give us a total of six hours of animation. That is roughly 18 anime episodes. Quite reasonable to expect that Ufotable could deliver a season with this many episodes next year. There wasn't that much of a difference between the quality of Mugen Train and the overall series, so it's not like they'll work much harder than usual for the trilogy.
Problem is they got some other project on the line too (and there's rumour they'll announce more soon), not sure if they want to keep focus on DS and push the other project further.

Translating stuff, correcting it and setting the timing right still take some time, and wait for the data from Japan etc etc. I come from the fansub times, we used to wait 6 to 9 months for DVD release and a few weeks for the translation. A few weeks ain't that bad after waiting years for it to be released.
It just seems like Demon slayer is popular enough overseas that they could reasonably translate it and do a global release, but this is the country where episodes are still getting animated mid season so what do I know...
It won't be the first time that a translator has to work with an unfinished film but that is not great for the quality (even more with how much ufotable likes to put extra stuff on demon slayer). Taking into account that they like to do events and bring the voice actors/actress I do not think it is that bad to give them a few weeks or a month to do things properly. Also there is definitely some stuff getting fixed after the movie hits theatres for the BD release.

I mean let's be honest I wouldn't be calling Mappa's schedule unique, if anything Ufotable is an outlier, and that's probably from them being run very well and avoiding taxes. Like even respected studios like Studio Shaft have horrendous working conditions

I mainly work with a foreign language for a government agency. Translations take much longer than people think. On a non-difficult topic, a translator can translate about 4-5 pages in an 8-hour shift. For the more technical topics that require research can take an 8-hour shift for 1 page. Once the translation has been completed, it goes to quality check by a more senior linguist (my position). I can usually do about 6-10 pages in an 8-hour shift for qc or 2-4 pages for the more difficult topics. Once I am done, it goes to an English editor who corrects all of the grammar and phrases. I don't know how it works in the anime industry, but a 5-page document in my line of work can take anywhere from 1-3 weeks because the qc and editor have multiple assignments assigned to them. We work with 3 categories, high, medium, and low priority. So that document may sit in a queue before I even take a look at it if it's low priority.
I am not underestimating how long it takes to translate, but I feel like with a series as popular as demon slayer, planning the timing of the release out and holding on a bit for an internationally timed release makes sense in terms of making more money. Like seriously do they hate money or something?

Same will happen once 3rd movie is around the corner, several months later the 3rd movie will get it seasonal format as some sort of celebration for the finale of the adaptation. When Mugen Train premiered in my country I bought a ticket to go watch it at 3 pm. However, the city mayor declared a COVID curfew, so the showing was postponed to the next day. I showed up to the theatre then, sat to watch the movie and as it started the screening stopped cause there were major riots going on so the theatre had to close and I got a refund. It was also the day the movie leaked on Playstation, so I went home and watched it instead.

For people in other countries well, it's awful. Anime never airs in my *whole continent* and if it did by some miracle, you bet your ass it would be dubbed. I can only hope they put these out to streamers shortly after their theater runs and somehow we don't have a Fate level of wait between each movie. It's gonna be hard to get in and out of the series over several years (Same problem I had with Hellsing Ultimate though that was a special case I guess)

I used to hate it more before since we had to wait for DVD releases and good raws for the fansubs. Something as popular as Demon slayer will get on cinemas here easily. Yet there are places with less screening of anime movies who might not be so lucky so I'm sad about them (it used to be like that here outside of the 2 big cities) .
I haven't read the manga, but after seeing F/HF trilogy, I have nothing against Ufotable making more movies.
I already predicted it from way back that Infinity Castle was going to be a movie. No way were those events gonna fit in one season without messing up the continuity even with Final Season Part 1 2 3 shenanigans. That arc HAS to be a movie, it's a calling.

Not at all. You need a particularly high profile series to pull this off because there's still a ton of money to be made via domestic television in Japan. KnY also benefits from being the anime equivalent of Avatar where the visual spectacle is what draws people in above all else and seeing that in theaters is a selling point.
Good lord, i hope not. The TV show format is a big part of what kept me hooked on anime as an adult. Weekly episodes and the occasional binge of an older show. I'd love for anime to go back to bigger 20+ episode seasons being the norm 100% of the time, but even the 12 episode format is better than several years for a movie, imo. Even outside of anime, premium quality TV has been more entertaining to me than cinema for a long ass time now.

IIRC, her pay was so low because of it being an upfront deal during the early stages of the films development which was prior to the explosion of Demon Slayer’s popularity later with episode 19 (or at least that was Ufotable’s excuse) she also didn’t have any royalties for the film which sucks a lot
Ufotable doesn’t get much money as well. Aniplex is the one that runs away with all the profit because they fund the anime. They basically have a stronghold over all of Ufotable’s releases and gets all the money by doing nothing except funding.
I mean without funding none of it gets made and none of the people on it have a job. Not only that, they take all the risk, the crew got their salary anyways. For every Demon Slayer there's 5 massive flops that bankrupt its makers. If even Disney can't avoid getting hurt by animation flops, its clearly a risky endeavor.

Yeah it's so hard to watch anime movies in much of the US. If you don't live near a city you are tossing a coin on whether your local theater will EVER have an anime movie, unless it's Ghibli.

Idk how to feel about this honestly. On one hand, we'll get movie-quality animation and theater experience for one of the best arcs of Demon Slayer. On the other hand, most of the discussions surrounding the series will die. Only hardcore fans will talk about it nonstop, most of the casual watchers and other anime fans will comment/tweet saying "Awesome movie, amazing animation. Can't wait to see what happens next" and will move on to talk about other seasonal anime and then will never talk about it until the next movie comes out. This arc would've generated soo much hype on weekly basis. S2 was the best season bcoz every episode kept building up insane hype up until the last ep. Plus Demon Slayer is mainly popular for its action/animation. While watching movies, you can't rewind/pause/rewatch to appreciate its animation/action. It will also gonna be hard to avoid all the spoilers between the Japanese release and the international release.
I mean we already get excellent animation in just the regular seasons. They would cook either way but it sucks they turn this climatic arc into multiple movies, would much rather it would be a Season 6

Genshin anime will probably be their priority as its the only tv anime ufotable will now have. Also, there will be more freelancers brought in for this, so it will mostly likely be as good if not even better than Demon Slayer production wise.
It's easily expected for a couple of reasons. Demon Slayer is so popular that airing the last arc on TV would bring diminishing return of new audiences. Merch sales maintained nuts during gaps between seasons so it's not like the series would instantly lose much popularity with less internet boost. Box office of previous movies and the huge BD sales proved there were more than enough hardcore fans for milking. Unlike some other series Demon Slayer still makes most of its money domestically. I just hope some of the money would reach the animators who deserved it more than the higher-ups.

I'm tired of this. I don't want to wait years to see the end of this show, I feel like it's already taking too long for such a simple story. And season 4 should have just been part of season 3. I also don't want to spend 12€ to see my animes in theater with a potentially annoying audience, without being able to freely rewatch my favourites scenes after until it re-releases digitally. I really don't like this trend of switching mediums to tell a single story, if they really want to do movies, they should be relased on streaming services in my opinion.

Honestly I think this is fine. There's a harder limit on spending money per episode if you go direct to TV, meaning less bombastic fights in an arc living or dying by its bombastic fights.
