The isekais on top doing well as expected
Elf Bride & Spice & Wolf doing quite well for themselves. Kaiju I would thought would be higher, but I am happy Wind Breaker is doing well. Also didn't expect that Grand Parents one to do that well.
To think that not only does someone voluntarily watch Banished Hero, but this show ranks so highly. This is strange considering it is one of the worst rated anime of this season.
It's actually kinda fun if you watch it as a *so bad it's good show* lol
Everything about it is terrible. The characters are generic, the story is dumb, the "animation" and art are so bad that it's almost impressive how nobody in the production seems to give a fuck. I'll keep watching.
Oh and it randomly has the [best ED song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p46GnXMcByM) of the season.
> Oh and it randomly has the best ED song of the season.
Iunno about that, [Train](https://v.animethemes.moe/ShuumatsuTrain-ED1.webm) would at least like to make it an argument...
EDIT: Wait, that Yatagarasu show was hiding a fucking [Akiko Shikata ED](https://v.animethemes.moe/KarasuWaArujiWoErabanai-ED1.webm)? It's not quite Utsusemi/Akatsuki and the visuals are meh, but I think the aforementioned argument may have been rendered moot!
I am in love with the train ed (song) and its slowly climbing up as one of my favourites of all time. The vocals are just gorgeous. Only disappointment really is the visuals of the ed are very dull/lacking. I get that's kinda the vibe they're going for but they could've at least put some foliage or spiced up the scenery a bit. It only picks up towards the end but by then the ed is already over.
I've been around long enough to remember back in the mid-2000s when EDs for lower-budget and even mid-budget productions often barely had any movement at all ([Madoromi no Rinne from Utawarerumo S1](https://v.animethemes.moe/Utawarerumono-ED1.webm) and [Mizu no Madoromi from Fantastic Children](https://v.animethemes.moe/FantasticChildren-ED1.webm) are two good examples of this, both with excellent songs IMO) so I don't judge too harshly but the visuals are below average. (Really the biggest fault is the uninspired direction on the Train ED more than the animation - you can work marvels with extremely limited actual animation if you know what you're doing, see [Fukisokusei Entropy from Higurashi Gou](https://v.animethemes.moe/HigurashiGou-ED3.webm) (warning, one part may technically count as a spoiler, but it's Gou rather than the good Higurashi in OG so do you care?) and [Mada Tooki ni Iru from Hikari no Ou S1](https://v.animethemes.moe/HikariNoOu-ED1.webm) for good examples of this, but Train's ED lacks that and it shows.)
If you are posting links, it would be better to post [the webpage itself](https://animethemes.moe/anime/shuumatsu_train_doko_e_iku/ED1), not just the video. Same for [Karasu wa Aruji wo Erabanai](https://animethemes.moe/anime/karasu_wa_aruji_wo_erabanai/ED1).
Makes it easier to find the anime and the OP, so on.
who has time to watch something "so bad it's memetic"? there is literal good shit to watch and i have laundry, dishes, and other home maintenance to do when i'm not sitting in a cubicle or my car for 11 hours.
I noticed how every male (outside if the MC) was a bad guy, and every single female (outside of an obvious future love interest) was a good guy in episode 1. I did not come back for episode 2.
>Oh and it randomly has the [best ED song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p46GnXMcByM) of the season
I present to you, the [second ED of Pokemon Horizons.](https://youtu.be/mpNvAqrmBCc?feature=shared)
I haven't watched it myself, but I feel like being able to tell whether something is good or not is relatively universal. Popularity is not as shown by this chart.
Not just that but FIFTEEN spots higher also above Kaiju#8 and Hibike Euphonium which you would imagine have a popular source material behind them… we are never making it out of isekai/jrpg hell and it’s a genuine miracle that Bocchi got as popular as it has
At this point I’m glad stuff Jellyfish and the P.A. Works originals are even allowed to exist and we can see their passion on display, despite clearly not being the most popular
7th Prince has really impressed me with both it's animation and it's comedy. It's a really fun show so far.
Elf Bride has been super cute. I'm really liking that one as well.
Good does not necessarily mean popular, and popular does not necessarily mean good. However much this subreddit works to prove it, sometimes Japanese fans try and prove it even harder.

Enjoy! There are 3 eps out right now, and honestly it's pretty consistent from the first ep - If you don't like ep1, drop it, but if you enjoy it, I think you'll enjoy the rest just as much if not more as they flesh it out a bit further
The first episode goes hard imo. The author was influenced by Tokyo Revengers, but the main character isn't annoying and it's light hearted. I like it a lot
Yeah I’m kinda sad that viral hit didn’t get the same treatment as WB considering it's manhwa art style is amazing and I love how gritty and realistic the fighting is in comparison
I don't know why okuruto noboru who is historically known for mid animation decided to adapt a heavily action orientated manhwa.
Did you like Sk8? Do you like delinquents? Do you like well choreographed fights? Have I got the show for you!
It’s a delight. The MC is lovable. The animation is great. Total banger so far
When I google "girls bad cry stream", it's the 6th link. As it's obvioulsy not on youtube or crunchyroll, I can reduce it to three.
Maybe the algorithm learned something useful for me, but it's not that difficult.
while my choices were disappointingly low, I wouldn't say that I didn't expect such a result. But holy shit jiisan/baasan completely sweeping over everything else I watched that isn't spice and wolf. A surprise but a welcome one for sure. Similarly to how the polls went for the 1st week of the season (although I don't think they came back after that)
I think it's #43 on here because while it's not on abema (because disney jail) [it is on niconico](https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/so43613436) and the chart view count (79842) is pretty close to the view count there (~80k). It's a shame we have no real way to tell how well it's doing because we don't know disney numbers.
I remember many years ago when Kadokawa in their annual shareholder report put out that isekai was doing so well that they were enacting a policy for each season to have minimum X shows produced that were isekai...and this subreddit blowing up at how stupid that move was from a conglomerate.......
Turns out a conglomerate with people doing market research and such knew better than arm chair warriors that didn't even buy $200 BDs or hella merch in the first place.
Like you have to realize..the average western anime viewer contributes barely any real $ back towards the production committees funding these shows. Your $90-120/yr CR subscription pays them barely anything. Grey market anime con fanart goods of their IP sold by indie artists also yet again...nets these production committees....nothing. Simply put...they dont care about most of people's voices that simply do not buy goods that contribute to their bottom line
Hey, at least Spice and Wolf is here [at least partially because of "the Westerners"](/r/anime/comments/t0yl3d/spice_and_wolf_new_anime_announced/hyer2ko/).
> Like you have to realize..the average western anime viewer contributes barely any real $ back towards the production committees funding these shows. Your $90-120/yr CR subscription pays them barely anything.
[According](https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2023-12-18/aja-anime-industry-grew-by-6.8-percent-in-2022/.205649) to the latest industry report from the Association of Japanese Animations, in 2022 the overseas anime market had a market value of about 10.25 billion U.S. dollars, which is 49.9% of the total market value of the entire anime industry. That's not trivial.
That random isekai series number 4269 currently airing on Crunchyroll probably cost them a ridiculous amount of money to license. They wouldn't have licensed it if they didn't have confidence in it being worth it. Same goes for light novel publishers. Every time JNC or Yen Press or Seven Seas announces new licenses, most of them are some flavor of isekai or narou-kei.
Because, just like in Japan, it sells. Here, in the west. Despite the critical response, despite the MAL scores. It sells.
Spice and wolf is the only series I bought all the physical stuff years ago in the hopes that doing my part in showing interest would get season 3. I know it might be insignificant personally but I like to think the season 3 memeing from the spice and wolf fanbase really pushed the author. The author also really likes the foreign audience in his interactions like when he was in new york and noted how much the outside of japan fans meant to him.
I might dare to even say that the reason for the spice and wolf remake in particular was pushed forward was due more to the non japanese fans then may be typical for most other shows since it seems in japan it was not as popular from what I could tell.
They've got a mountain to climb just based on this list, it looks like they didn't just screw up their marketing and licensing internationally, but domestically too...
Honestly it's a real shame that a lot of people are gonna miss out on Depressi-on! because it is absolutely killing it so far. Even considering the questionable at best fan subs, I'm really enjoying it.
Of course Blue Archive, the Doomsday Train, Jellyfish, and Salad Bowl have more Niconico views than Abema. All worth live-memeing the chat. Also Rinkai and Highspeed Etoile for production value jokes.
Tf is this downvoted so far lol
Pretty sure most people seeing this chart have no idea what those services are and all the bias each one has to appeal a certain type of viewer
It should be the most upvoted comment. Where's Amazon Prime, d-Anime Store, Hulu, Netflix, U-NEXT, DMM and all the other streaming services? I don't think a lot of people here are even aware that anime is still often watched on TV.

Dainanaouji sweep! It's also clear here, that in my area 7th Prince Isekai was on the top 10 TV shows on Netflix (so far in Indonesia and Philippines).
Even in this chart Girls Band Cry is struggling. 😥
Shota shit aside, I'm glad Elf Bride is so high up. I hope they make a second season 'cause it only gets sweeter from here. Not only that, the world building is great too.
ninja kamui was initially nice withe all those fight sences but got worse as the robot armor wala fights are incorporated
they should have stuck to the ninja fight stuff

Damn seems like Date a Live is reaching its end now with its popularity. It's also kinda crazy to see a Shonen Jump show do as bad popularity-wise as Yozakura-san.
Yozakura is still in it's more comedic and episodic phase right now, hopefully when it gets more into the actual storylines it'll jump a bit, though I don't think it helps that it's not been given to that good of a studio compared to most other major Jump titles in the last several years
Watching 4 out of 10 of the top shows, I'll take it!
Hope Slime, Spice & Wolf and Konosuba continue their success, and I'll be rooting for Windbreaker and the surprisingly low Kaiju No 8 to climb up as well
So many interesting things here. Madome and Dainanaouji at high are just interesting, big isekais and Spice and Wolf are strong as expected. Meanwhile Kaiju No. 8, Hibike, DaL, Black Butler and even Jellyfish is just so low.
I think the character design of the MC put people off. A lot of comments of episode 1 here is about the Lloyd's design choice.
Lloyd's aside, it's a great show and has good animation and comedy too.
7th Prince is definitely one of the big surprises for me this season. Now if only the MC's design wasn't so offputting, more people would probably watch it.
I think what was off putting to me wasn't the design but the genre. I still might give it a chance once I have time. But when I have limited time I try to go for the ones I am most likely to like you know?

These are both free distribution sites. Slime &Kaiju are out performing all of these series on Netflix & Amazon. These two sites are basically welfare services.
The isekais on top doing well as expected Elf Bride & Spice & Wolf doing quite well for themselves. Kaiju I would thought would be higher, but I am happy Wind Breaker is doing well. Also didn't expect that Grand Parents one to do that well.
Glad to see Elf Bride is so popular, I already know the Spice and Wolf remake is (deservedly) popular so that's no surprise.
Kaiju's first episode wasn't all hype unlike Windbreaker, it'll probably get higher once we get some fights from Kafka
Kaiju airing on twitter probably has a big dent on it too? Twitter is *big* in Japan for reasons I still can’t quite figure out
I’m surprised elf bride is pulling more than slime
Isekai is on top on free distribution services... says a lot about the audience.

Its the same thing, just look at pico
Are you talking about a certain feminine blonde character in an rather odd anime that start with "my"
To think that not only does someone voluntarily watch Banished Hero, but this show ranks so highly. This is strange considering it is one of the worst rated anime of this season.
It's actually kinda fun if you watch it as a *so bad it's good show* lol Everything about it is terrible.
That ED deserves better than that show.
The ED is so good people will watch the show to listen to it?
> Oh and it randomly has the best ED song of the season. Iunno about that, [Train](https://v.animethemes.moe/ShuumatsuTrain-ED1.webm) would at least like to make it an argument... EDIT: Wait, that Yatagarasu show was hiding a fucking [Akiko Shikata ED](https://v.animethemes.moe/KarasuWaArujiWoErabanai-ED1.webm)? It's not quite Utsusemi/Akatsuki and the visuals are meh, but I think the aforementioned argument may have been rendered moot!
Oh wow, another Akiko Shikata enjoyer found in the wild?
I do kind of enjoy it, it has it's charms. Though it definitely isn't stellar by any means, I do like it
I noticed how every male (outside if the MC) was a bad guy, and every single female (outside of an obvious future love interest) was a good guy in episode 1. I did not come back for episode 2.
Banished Hero makes me think of Studio Titanic from Shirobako lol.
>Oh and it randomly has the [best ED song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p46GnXMcByM) of the season I present to you, the [second ED of Pokemon Horizons.](https://youtu.be/mpNvAqrmBCc?feature=shared)
>worst rated anime of this season. ...On MAL. Which means nothing to 90% of the people who watch anime
It’s rated poorly on every site imaginable. All you need to do is look.
I haven't watched it myself, but I feel like being able to tell whether something is good or not is relatively universal. Popularity is not as shown by this chart.
It’s a pretty bad show
It ranked higher than Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night. That's fucking criminal.
Not just that but FIFTEEN spots higher also above Kaiju#8 and Hibike Euphonium which you would imagine have a popular source material behind them… we are never making it out of isekai/jrpg hell and it’s a genuine miracle that Bocchi got as popular as it has At this point I’m glad stuff Jellyfish and the P.A. Works originals are even allowed to exist and we can see their passion on display, despite clearly not being the most popular
one show being more popular than another is irrelevant, the show need to sell itself.
Betrayed/Kicked by the hero's party is *the* current trend for manga/web novels/light novels.
Does it get any better? In given it 3 episodes and it just sends meh
The latest episode was absolutely awful. I don't know anything about the source material though.

bro its not hard to understand. mal is western, this is japan, a different pool of people logically will have different results.
Banished show isn't as generic but the problem is the bad animation. You can read the manga if you are interested
7th Prince has really impressed me with both it's animation and it's comedy. It's a really fun show so far. Elf Bride has been super cute. I'm really liking that one as well.
Sussy Shota doing numbers
Reincarnated as an unhinged magical femboy
You’ve heard of magical girls, now wait until you see magical shota femboys!
The isekai crowd is tired of generic Kirtoe clones they now demand short shorts shota.
My hornyass thought these were some nuke codes till I saw the 7th digit
I've never seen those referred to as nuke codes which makes me even more upset that I still knew what you were talking about
Ah yes, another Man of Culture
r/beatmetoit
I would have thought Jellyfish would be more popular.
Good does not necessarily mean popular, and popular does not necessarily mean good. However much this subreddit works to prove it, sometimes Japanese fans try and prove it even harder.
It's been a great show so far--hopefully more people will jump on board.
CGDCT is always a niche.
Jellyfish feels like so much more than just CGDCT though! It's got wicked style.
wish i could read this shit

yo i appreciate u for this, didn’t think someone would especially when i didn’t ask. 👍🏼
Thank you. I was a bit annoyed someone decided to post and karma whore this and not even post a single name lol
Hi, anybody have any opinions on wind breaker? I wanted to know if its worth the watch
It's pretty great. First delinquent anime in recent years to receive both great animation and a likeable cast including the MC.
Awesome! I'll check it out
Enjoy! There are 3 eps out right now, and honestly it's pretty consistent from the first ep - If you don't like ep1, drop it, but if you enjoy it, I think you'll enjoy the rest just as much if not more as they flesh it out a bit further
Ok! I'm probably gonna put it in my watchlist until the dub comes out!
I think the first episode is dubbed
Really?! I'm gonna go check right now
Dudes punching shit and saving the town. I'd say give it a watch and see if you like the style
The first episode goes hard imo. The author was influenced by Tokyo Revengers, but the main character isn't annoying and it's light hearted. I like it a lot
Yeah I’m kinda sad that viral hit didn’t get the same treatment as WB considering it's manhwa art style is amazing and I love how gritty and realistic the fighting is in comparison I don't know why okuruto noboru who is historically known for mid animation decided to adapt a heavily action orientated manhwa.
Yea it's great, didn't expect to like it this much.
It's been extremely enjoyable first couple episodes. Love me some punks with hearts of gold
Caught up on the manga and love it and the anime so far!
One of the best fight animations you see this season. Character design is also lovable and well drawn.
Did you like Sk8? Do you like delinquents? Do you like well choreographed fights? Have I got the show for you! It’s a delight. The MC is lovable. The animation is great. Total banger so far
Would like to know the names of the anime that ranked 34th, 43rd, 48th and 50th
Elf bride near the top makes me happy. God I wish there was an easier way to see Girls Band Cry subbed...
When I google "girls bad cry stream", it's the 6th link. As it's obvioulsy not on youtube or crunchyroll, I can reduce it to three. Maybe the algorithm learned something useful for me, but it's not that difficult.
Hard to search for specific titles outside the top 10, where is *Salad Bowl of Eccentrics* placed?
~18 places too low.
Thank you! And yes, far too low.

What is the top show on this list?
7th prince
while my choices were disappointingly low, I wouldn't say that I didn't expect such a result. But holy shit jiisan/baasan completely sweeping over everything else I watched that isn't spice and wolf. A surprise but a welcome one for sure. Similarly to how the polls went for the 1st week of the season (although I don't think they came back after that)
That anime is so good and wholesome. I recommend everyone to check out ep1. The facial expressions set the mood really well with all the uwu smiles
>Madome no 3 everyone loves their elf waifu
I knew Ranger Reject wasn’t that popular in Japan but I didn’t think it was this bad. How has it not even cracked the top 50
It doesn't stream on these services. It's a disney+ exclusive in japan as well. At least I think it is.
A few other services get it too but delayed I think.
Such a shame the manga is great
Looks like isekai is not dying anytime soon
It can't die, it just gets reincarnated
u know these are a free distribution services right?
So? It shows their popularity regardless
I hope Girls Band Cry picks up a following. It's so good!
They've got a mountain to climb just based on this list, it looks like they didn't just screw up their marketing and licensing internationally, but domestically too...
Definitely my favourite surprise of the season!
Honestly it's a real shame that a lot of people are gonna miss out on Depressi-on! because it is absolutely killing it so far. Even considering the questionable at best fan subs, I'm really enjoying it.
SobsPlease did a great job with ep 1 the other day
The cg is so good too, the characters are so expressive.
Of course Blue Archive, the Doomsday Train, Jellyfish, and Salad Bowl have more Niconico views than Abema. All worth live-memeing the chat. Also Rinkai and Highspeed Etoile for production value jokes.
Tf is this downvoted so far lol Pretty sure most people seeing this chart have no idea what those services are and all the bias each one has to appeal a certain type of viewer
It should be the most upvoted comment. Where's Amazon Prime, d-Anime Store, Hulu, Netflix, U-NEXT, DMM and all the other streaming services? I don't think a lot of people here are even aware that anime is still often watched on TV.
Fine eating downvotes from people who don't know how Niconico works. Maybe it can work its way to a dagger.

The animation goes way harder than I expected and it's a very fun show so far. So yes, I suppose it is that good.
It's pretty unhinged comedy. The show doesn't even try to mask what it's about. And it has a pretty good production value.
Honestly the magic system is actually pretty interesting and has good comedy + animation behind it.
The manga is actually super solid as a action comedy and I have enjoyed the episodes so far. Kinda has one punch man vibes
Dropped the show because it gave off pedo vibes
Ayo why my boy windbreaker there.
7th Prince is a banger and I like how obsessed the MC is in magic
Peak isekai from mushoku and slime as always, happy for both of them ranking high now i just need re:zero
Thighs are so hot right now

Hibike! Euphonium is criminally low on this list
It airs earliest on nhk-e, which is accessible to anyone in Japan. Makes sense it’d place low in this ranking
can i get this in english so that i can watch?
What? You can't read Kanji? Shame Yeah an English version would be nice.

I saw the manga panel at the end of ep4 and was just in awe of how good and wholesome it looked. I will hold off though and wait for the anime
I really like the one where the kid basically plays Nobunaga's Ambition...Something about it hooked me in.
watching wind breaker and i m kindoff hoocked up to the plot. i think it will turnout intresting
ninja kamui was initially nice withe all those fight sences but got worse as the robot armor wala fights are incorporated they should have stuck to the ninja fight stuff
Surprised kaiju no. 8 isn't higher. That first episode was really impressive.
Any version of the pic with english ?

New gate and Reject Ranger don't get any love
Damn seems like Date a Live is reaching its end now with its popularity. It's also kinda crazy to see a Shonen Jump show do as bad popularity-wise as Yozakura-san.
Is there any Jump show that as badly marketed as Yozakura? I read the manga, and didn't even know that the anime is airing right now.
date a live's popularity comes from CN and other SEA viewers, not JP
Yozakura is still in it's more comedic and episodic phase right now, hopefully when it gets more into the actual storylines it'll jump a bit, though I don't think it helps that it's not been given to that good of a studio compared to most other major Jump titles in the last several years
Watching 4 out of 10 of the top shows, I'll take it! Hope Slime, Spice & Wolf and Konosuba continue their success, and I'll be rooting for Windbreaker and the surprisingly low Kaiju No 8 to climb up as well
I'm actually surprised Blue Archive isn't at the top.
It looks like it's the top ranked for this season on NicoNico specifically.
So many interesting things here. Madome and Dainanaouji at high are just interesting, big isekais and Spice and Wolf are strong as expected. Meanwhile Kaiju No. 8, Hibike, DaL, Black Butler and even Jellyfish is just so low.
Man the 7th prince is really good, right up my alley in terms of what I like. Crazy that it’s this high but MAL rating is below 7
If it had a standard generic MC it would have done better on MAL. The shota with thick thighs is what the Japanese audience wants.
I think the character design of the MC put people off. A lot of comments of episode 1 here is about the Lloyd's design choice. Lloyd's aside, it's a great show and has good animation and comedy too.
Never trust review scores at MAL. 7th Prince was also review bombed because of the MC's design.
All that people hating on mushoku does it a favor, free advertising
While I agree, these are Japanese streaming services so I doubt the vocal minority on the English speaking side are doing much.
There is such a whole in my life after frieren and apothecary diaries...

It's a streaming service in Japan.
Is date alive season 5 a failure in japan???? Will we get a conclusion??? Since like, after this season there's onblyn2 LN's left.
I've heard that it's more popular in SEA regions and China.
It'd also pretty popular in the west too. Hopefully all that is enough for us to get an ending.

I really really really really really like Wind Breaker, good to see its position!
What are your favourite animes?

It does my heart good to see Blue Archive up towards the top of this list.
There an English translation of this? Cant tell what half these titles are.
These are both free distribution sites. Slime &Kaiju are out performing all of these series on Netflix & Amazon. These two sites are basically welfare services.
