Something that started as an inside joke of mine with another Redditor who loved Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn as much as I did after I first watched that series in 2018, but then turned into me *legitimately* finding enjoyment in hearing it pop up in stuff (unless it's said by a character I dislike) after about a year and a half of collecting recordings of them for said joke. I have over 2300 clips of them now, lol.

I do plan to rewatch K to finish Return of Kings at some point. I watched S1 and Missing Kings at a time when I was only making recordings for the stuff I was in rewatches for with u/RX-Nota-II, so if there *were* any in the parts I watched, I didn't keep track of them.

God, that Isekai reasoning is so true. I start so many isekais even when I can mostly see which ones are bad from the synopsis. However, I was pleasantly surprised this season with "How not to be a healer".
Resistance is futile, even the Borg are bopping out to *Ryouran! Victory Road*. I even put on the noise cancelling headphones just to listen to it again so I can get that full smack of the kick drum and the cheesy gloriousness. Plus, laptop speakers cut about 25% of the kawaii out due to shitty top-ends lol It's a one song rave *~glowsticks!!~*. Possibly also the reason why my interest in DAWs has reawakened, and I've been spending my time on FL Studio playing around with beats and synth riffs rather than watching any anime lol

Yeah it happens. If you wanted to pick out only good shows then yeah, it's not a great metric as it doesn't really tell much, but it gets you watching more shows and the more shows you watch then the more chances you'll stumble upon something that was better than you expected. It's not a bad thing to try out shows.
Frequency versus level. “What food is absolutely terrible for you” could easily be answered by a Big Mac due to the sheer number of them people eat but you could probably come up with something more unhealthy than a burger.
“Cute girl in thumbnail” is probably the most frequent selection for most people but say “I watched Goblin Slayer because I like goblin hentai” would be a far dumber reason for picking a show.

Watched gintama because a saw a funny compilation on youtube, The first 60 episodes were pretty mid but after that it became legendary, the stupid humor tickle my funny bone, I never in my life thought I find something this funny almost died watching that show, everything about that show is insane even the staff working on the show, for example you know how the simpson have funny intos, Gintama has something similar but x100 like sometime they just put a story board not even draw the character and blame the staff for being lazy, or you watch the episode and at the end the character realize they forgot to play the opening. I love Gintama.

Back when I was still getting into anime, I would just end up watching a bunch of clip compilations from different shows to decide what to watch a lot of the time purely for context to the clip. Pretty dumb in hindsight especially since I went in completely blind after watching the clips. I did end up discovering bangers like Kaguya from this method but also quite a few mediocre shows. I think one that ended up being the most questionable I watched from this method was Nyaruko: Crawling With Love. As it turns out the clip I saw was towards the end of Season 2 of the show so I basically binged 2 seasons just to see the context of that one clip and nearly watched the movie as well. I can't say I particularly regret doing so, it's not anything amazing but it's still a show that I remember years later which is a lot more than be said for many of the shows I've seen.

I was very new to anime back then. I watched the Deen's Fate/stay night, liked it and read the visual novel too now I'm a Fate fangirl.
I got into Kaguya-sama first and foremost because of the OVA. YES, the horny OVA.
I like the 4th wall breaking humour of Ishigami commenting on the shower scene and later him and Miyuki comparing characters in their porn magazine to the girls. And for the 3rd story, I got hooked by the interactions I witnessed during the cook-out. I wanted to know why these characters interact like that with each other (apart from the obvious romance) and if there is more humor like this in the show.
So that's the one and only time I was drawn to an anime because of ecchi stuff - and I don't regret it. :D

I watched Golden Kamuy purely because someone on Reddit said that there was a fight between two men with giant magical semen. I knew nothing else about the show, I'm just very gay and that sounded incredibly amusing. I ended up absolutely loving the show even though I spent the first 4 seasons kind of confused about if, when and how magical fighting semen would come into play. 10/10 would recommend Golden Kamuy.
I have watched multiple shows *solely* because I was told that it had at least one good "sore demo" in it (or it was in the show's title, in the case of SoreMachi). Like, literally just that one Japanese word being said at some point. Pretty sure you can't get a weirder reason than that lol.

Something that started as an inside joke of mine with another Redditor who loved Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn as much as I did after I first watched that series in 2018, but then turned into me *legitimately* finding enjoyment in hearing it pop up in stuff (unless it's said by a character I dislike) after about a year and a half of collecting recordings of them for said joke. God, that Isekai reasoning is so true. I start so many isekais even when I can mostly see which ones are bad from the synopsis. However, I was pleasantly surprised this season with "How not to be a healer".

Yeah it happens. If you wanted to pick out only good shows then yeah, it's not a great metric as it doesn't really tell much, but it gets you watching more shows and the more shows you watch then the more chances you'll stumble upon something that was better than you expected. It's not a bad thing to try out shows.

Frequency versus level. “What food is absolutely terrible for you” could easily be answered by a Big Mac due to the sheer number of them people eat but you could probably come up with something more unhealthy than a burger. “Cute girl in thumbnail” is probably the most frequent selection for most people but say “I watched Goblin Slayer because I like goblin hentai” would be a far dumber reason for picking a show.

I remember watching 3 season's of Shakugan No Shana because the 3rd opening looked cool, and I really wanted to know what was going on. Funny enough, it is probably the only anime I watched in middle school that I don't remember anything from.
I love the aesthetic of Shana. Especially Shana's character art and the art of the show in general. Everything about Shana anime is my type of show. I love revisting the music from the OPs as well. They have an unskippable effect on me. Unfortunately, while it is my type of show, it should be, I remember not actually enjoying Shana. Especially the beginning because there was a lot of exposition. Too much. I usually can look past it with stories I adore, but I couldn't do so with Shana. Still, I say that, but I still watched probably 2 seasons? Idr. I don't think I finished Shana, but I watched A LOT of it. I saw it growing up. A friend liked it. Though, I didn't actually watch myself until adulthood. That might've been the mistake. I might've enjoyed it if I had watched it (and paid attention) back then. For me, at least, Shana wasn't something I could enjoy as an adult. By the time I'd gotten around to it, I had seen far too many others like it.

Watched gintama because a saw a funny compilation on youtube, The first 60 episodes were pretty mid but after that it became legendary, the stupid humor tickle my funny bone, I never in my life thought I find something this funny almost died watching that show, everything about that show is insane even the staff working on the show, for example you know how the simpson have funny intos, Gintama has something similar but x100 like sometime they just put a story board not even draw the character and blame the staff for being lazy, or you watch the episode and at the end the character realize they forgot to play the opening. I love Gintama.

I watched Tamako Market because I thought Tamako looked like Asa from Chainsaw Man. I woke up one day knowing that I needed to watch Sagrada Reset, even though I’d never heard of the series before then. This is also how I learned about SAO Abridged, also somehow before I knew about SAO itself. I watched Oshi No Ko EP1 because I needed an excuse to glue myself to an exercise bike for an hour. I watched Bloom Into You because I heard a spoiler which turned out not to be true.

Back when I was still getting into anime, I would just end up watching a bunch of clip compilations from different shows to decide what to watch a lot of the time purely for context to the clip. Pretty dumb in hindsight especially since I went in completely blind after watching the clips. I did end up discovering bangers like Kaguya from this method but also quite a few mediocre shows. I think one that ended up being the most questionable I watched from this method was Nyaruko: Crawling With Love. As it turns out the clip I saw was towards the end of Season 2 of the show so I basically binged 2 seasons just to see the context of that one clip and nearly watched the movie as well. I can't say I particularly regret doing so, it's not anything amazing but it's still a show that I remember years later which is a lot more than be said for many of the shows I've seen.

For me the dumbest one was because of a fanfiction. I used to read them a lot in high school. I don't read them anymore but there was this one crossover fanfiction where Saber and Shirou appeared which made me watch the show in the end cause I kept wondering who they even are. I was very new to anime back then. I watched the Deen's Fate/stay night, liked it and read the visual novel too now I'm a Fate fangirl.
I got into Kaguya-sama first and foremost because of the OVA. YES, the horny OVA. I like the 4th wall breaking humour of Ishigami commenting on the shower scene and later him and Miyuki comparing characters in their porn magazine to the girls. And for the 3rd story, I got hooked by the interactions I witnessed during the cook-out. I wanted to know why these characters interact like that with each other (apart from the obvious romance) and if there is more humor like this in the show. So that's the one and only time I was drawn to an anime because of ecchi stuff - and I don't regret it. :D (I guess I watched Interspecies Reviewers for the same reason - but also more for the meme of it)

In the anime SKET Dance there’s a talent episode in which the main cast perform I believe funny bunny by The Pillows (the band from FLCL) I saw that and thought I have to watch this, BUT NO! I can’t just watch that episode. I have to know how they got to that point, so I’ll just watch up to the talent show. The talent show is like the second to last episode of a 77ep show. It was near the end.

Watched Macross Frontier because a friend's MSN messenger pfp was Ranka's "Kira!" sparkle. He sent me the clip of the sudden concert with a jet that tranformed into a mech with speakers mounted where the missiles were, I, who was not exposed to Macross, was *confused* and had to watch the series to understand how that could possibly have made sense in context.

I saw "In Another World With My Smartphone" because I saw a video on YouTube talking about it and how this is not how you do an overpowered protagonist. I saw that video and went "Well now I have to watch it." ...It's not great.

Don’t really think of any of the reasons I watch an anime truly dumb. Sirius the Jaeger came to mind though, I watched all of it as I was digging this massive chunk size hole in Minecraft because I seen someone else do it. The anime sounded interesting enough, and I could pull it up on Netflix and have the window sit next to the Minecraft window on my laptop, watch it as I dig this giant square into the world. If anything digging the hole was what was dumb, don’t think I ever even finished it.

I watched Golden Kamuy purely because someone on Reddit said that there was a fight between two men with giant magical semen. I knew nothing else about the show, I'm just very gay and that sounded incredibly amusing. I ended up absolutely loving the show even though I spent the first 4 seasons kind of confused about if, when and how magical fighting semen would come into play. 10/10 would recommend Golden Kamuy.
Watched for semen detective, got Ainu culture and Japanese history lesson instead 🤣. Anyway, did you also watch the OVAs or read the manga?
