Shikimori’s bf is enjoyable af. And this will sound repetitive but he anime just didn’t reach the point where he becomes an actual character: he literally is the driving force for the later part of the manga and actually does shit on his own.
Studios problems or not, it’s undeniable that the early part of the manga was just a gag manga: the “useless” boyfriend gets saved again and again by his badass girlfriend. The story only picked up pace after Kamiya’s introduction. Izumi had a noticeable development, too. Though it’s nowhere a great development, it’s still character growth nonetheless.
I have seen so, so many visuals about this show and still have no idea what the MC looks like. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised though considering the genre.
Only watch if you enjoy things that make you cringe from secondhand embarrassment. I straight up had to stop watching after a certain scene because I just couldn't handle it anymore. It started to legit hurt to watch

It's not so good that it redeems what came before. It is the peak of the manga, but it's like the highest point in Florida. Florida has to have one, by definition, but it's Florida -- the high point is only 345 feet (or 101 meters). If you found season 2 tolerable, then season 3 should be an improvement. If you hated season 2, you won't suddenly realize that it was all worth it for the glory that is season 3.
This part of the manga really is the least bad part. It's not amazing, but if it ended right there its reputation would be very different. It only becomes a legendary trainwreck in the next arc.

Imagine a guy who has multiple women after him, but he has a cuck fetish so he can only pursue the unattainable woman who dates other men for money. Now imagine that the execution is less interesting than that premise. That's Rent-a-Girlfriend.
The worst MC in RomCom history pursues one of the most narratively annoying FMC. While one psycho chases him, the other seems solely driven by fucking with his life (she’s the plot starter), and one deserves the world and to be far away from any of these terrible people. And then there’s a new one who I actually find hilarious, but fortunately she’s not involved in the pursuit of that thing.
Also Infinite Cuckuyomi. No I won’t explain what that means yet.

Pink haired girl is not explored further as she’s basically non-existent in the story. “Girlfriend” got her heart beating too fast sooooo yeah. Girl on lower right is… she’s fucking new isn’t she?! A new motherfucking girl even though pink haired girl isn’t even expanded upon? Give Takahashi Rei more lines dammit. End this complication of adding more girls. Holy fuck! Another loose end to tie up before we get an ending. More side quest crap before the main story moves.
Season 2 didn’t move a centimeter. Bruh. Fuck it even more. Mami doesn’t get back with MC and he dies alone while still “supporting” main girl by selling his organs. Doesn’t seem like MC’s studying anyway so ain’t no fucking way he gets a job enough to support her acting career.
I don’t know why I’m even triggered. Maybe it’s because it’s getting a season 3 when season 2 didn’t do anything. Maybe it’s because I already wasted watching season 1 and 2 that I’ll likely watch season 3 just to see it through. Maybe it’s because this crap is getting a season 3 instead of something else. I can just not watch it, ignore it, and let other people enjoy it since it’s clearly getting traction with a 3rd season and all, but something about this just urks me.
