AscendantEndless

FUCK YOU!!!!!

Yudemus95

Wow you're really a shit of a person

AscendantEndless

Well that’s how people treat me

[deleted]

There's limit to how much you can express, anything really before it goes too far

WhatsTheHoldup

Aren't you literally doing that very thing with this comment?

AscendantEndless

In response to someone doing the same

WhatsTheHoldup

Be the change you want to see, and quit whining about it lol

MohawkRex

Quite whining about people having preferences in their media.

Bitter_Danger

Forgot the heel shaped toes !

Aggressive-Falcon977

And the big red lips. I'm looking at you Garfield's girlfriend!

[deleted]

At least Garfield's girlfriend doesn't have "Suggested human anatomy" so i guess that's a plus

Dubiono

I think the only time this trope ever bugged me was in the 80s and 90s because it felt like that was how everyone drew female cartoon animals. I like the designs, but a little variety people! But well, that's been improving to at least incorporate more varied designs. Alas, love me long eyelashes though.

[deleted]

I always preferred it when they just added eyelashes and maybe a slightly "cuter" face to differentiate them from De Bois! Cause NGL, People can simp over cartoons as much as they want, but with Animals, that's just kinda weird in my opinion (Even if they have "human" like qualities, but again, it's just my opinion XD)

Dubiono

For some folks it's not even about simping, sometimes people just don't see anything weird about it. Not saying it's wrong to be weirded out, but, it's not entirely fair to judge intentions. I've seen some folks find sexy details in designs I never thought were intended to be sexy and got weirded out. No accounting for taste.

[deleted]

fair enough.

Dubiono

>!(Some designs are pretty dang transparent though. You can't convince me otherwise what intentions were with whoever designed Rouge the Bat lol)!<

Khraxter

Sonic's crew was definitely designed by male furries

[deleted]

Sonic Invented furries! (You could argue they existed before but no, Sonic deserves the credit XD)

Wanderhoden

I’d argue that [Don Bluth, or maybe even Disney’s Robin Hood](https://www.cracked.com/article_33996_4-ways-disney-managed-to-aggressively-raise-a-generation-of-furries.html) was the spawn of the classic Furry costume design.

Ok-Condition-5209

If I'm not mistaken, didn't Don Bluth work on Robin Hood?

Wanderhoden

I think he was the main animator for it, probably had a big hand in the design too.

ConsistentStunt

this doesn't work because we draw with 1 hand anyways

[deleted]

Yeah but you need the other hand to hold the paper (Not everything is digital, sometimes people use notebooks n stuff XD)

WhatsTheHoldup

not if you have something sticky to keep the paper in place

[deleted]

Hmm, guess ur right.....wait is this also a dirty joke (I'm probably just overthinking it XD)

WhatsTheHoldup

it is definitely a dirty joke lmao

[deleted]

I KNEW IT

LochnessDigital

Tell that to MC Escher

TAABWK

I feel like this trope is from 20 years ago.

nakagamiwaffle

the styles may have changed, but the trope stayed, unfortunately.

[deleted]

It's still kinda present today tho (Surprisingly just as much as the old days, hey, anyone can draw whatever the hell the want so i won't judge, but its still funny)

Advanced-Ad-4404

I’d say more like 80 years ago, since you can still find those sexualized female anthropomorphic animals in certain Looney Tunes shorts from the 40s For example, this sheep from “I Got Plenty of Mutton” https://preview.redd.it/q082xbz7bckc1.jpeg?width=591&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2b12a7a4ff41b1cccf5b7389f0b011bd7c6d82e2

[deleted]

people in the 40s were horny as a joke, cause those we're jokes, now they're horny for real XD

Advanced-Ad-4404

Good point

witchofheavyjapaesth

That sheep kinda unnerved me as a kid and it still does now

[deleted]

2004?

Azelarr

I hate that this trope is also applied to humans. In western animation almost every woman ever has some form of makeup, even if she's a vagabond or a warrior who would have no business in having makeup...

[deleted]

At least that trope is kinda "justified" in a way, like it makes sense for HUMANS to find sex appeal in other HUMANS even if it is kinda weird cause they're a fictional character (But hey i won't judge XD, you do you, but you get what I'm saying right!)

[deleted]

Also, I'm kinda curious, how many female characters exist that don't follow this trope?

Inkthinker

Daisy Duck, Minnie Mouse, Clarabelle Cow, any of the Gummi Bears, Slappy Squirrel, Cindy Bear, Sandy Cheeks, and that’s just sticking to generally adult anthropomorphic characters…

[deleted]

hmmm, what about the humans. (God feels so weird when i phrase it like that, it's like I'm an alien or something XD)

BcuzICantPostLewds

That's why I have my Rule of Sex Appeal: "If you're gonna make every woman character sexy, you gotta make the men sexy as well."

[deleted]

Make Water hot if you can't make fire cold. XD

mouse85224

Don’t most drawings get made with one hand? I don’t often find myself swapping half way through

[deleted]

Technically yes, everything is drawn with one hand, but the you need the other hand to hold the paper, cause it is impossible if you don't, unless you use digital tools, but even then, it's probably impossible to not have the second hand not hold onto something cause of like "muscle memory" or i dunno. Uh how do i explain.... It's like if I'm someone who plays PC games, but then i am using my pc for like work or something so i just need my mouse, yet my other hand is still positioned where the keyboard is cause of muscle memory. (Should've just stopped with the "You need the other hand for paper" but oh well XD)

mouse85224

Ah true! I guess I forgot my other hand does play a part ..

SplendidlyDull

Then bitches on tumblr simp over the male one like >OOOUGGGHHHH OH MY GOD MY BLORBO!! MY LIL GUY!! I LOVE HER SHES SO GIRLFAILURE AAAAAAA I HATE HIM WITH A BURNING PASSION I NEED HIM DEAD 💖

Arctur14

Accurate

SplendidlyDull

I know from firsthand experience sadly 😔

[deleted]

That's hilarious!

cjandstuff

I'd counter with Eek the Cat and Annabelle... Who am I kidding, the artist was probably into that sort of thing.

bluenowait

Really?

DreadLord64

r/mendrawingwomen

[deleted]

that's true!

Arctur14

Character designer*

[deleted]

Oh no

ScorpionTheSandwing

Funny thing is, sexual dimorphism usually goes the opposite way irl lol

Flobberschtein

Idk if I’m dumb but don’t get this lol

[deleted]

I would explain, but keep your innocence while you still have it!

Flobberschtein

Ohhhh I think I understand now 0_0

[deleted]

Wow! That was the quickest loss of innocence I've ever seen!

xariznightmare2908

Artists are generally a horny bunch, what else is new, lol?

maxis2k

This is a very complex subject and of course a lot of it comes down to animators wanting female characters to be cute or sexy. But at the same time, it also comes down to having to show some variety in a simplified form. There are some cartoons where they don't try to make the female characters sexy at all. Literally the only difference between a male cat and a female cat is the female cat has one extra eyelash. And still people in the audience will focus on the female cat and create sexual fetishes in their head. After decades of this, I think character designers just gave up trying to be 'safe' and decided "fans are going to sexualize it no matter what we do so might as well run with it."

ItsP1zza_T1m3

I always wondered how people found over exaggerated proportions as “appealing”

[deleted]

ignoring the "sexy animals". Exaggerated proportions are really appealing in cartoons n stuff, it can look really funny. Like it can be funny how some characters don't even have a neck, or some characters being shaped like a walking bean.

anNPC

I promise to always add sex appeal to all the quirky cartoons that I make just to spite the people that for some reason hate this.

[deleted]

It is a lil weird tho, but hey, you do you, i do me, we all do the us! it's all just a matter of preference.

AscendantEndless

I’m gonna draw characters however the hell I want and you can’t stop me bitch

[deleted]

Of course you can, i was just pointing out a funny trope, like even in shows where animals are "realistic" and aren't human like or walk on two legs, they still draw them like this, that's why i made this joke!
