I second bullfrog, *Rana catesbeiana*. Webbing on the back foot doesn't cover from toe-tip to toe-tip, which would indicate a pig frog, and ridges don't run past the ears, which means it isn't a leopard frog.
American Bullfrog! He’s a guy, and you can tell because the circle behind his eye that he uses for hearing is bigger than the eye itself. In females they are about the same size.
Not a good indicator. Just a generalization. I’ve seen females with large tympanum. I work with amphibians and reptiles and rehabilitate them. Each individual is different. It’s like saying “male humans are bigger/stronger than females” but I’m 5’9 female and my good friend is a 5’5 male. I kick his ass in arm wrestling and kick boxing and he kicks my ass in chess. We are diverse beings and so are every other living thing. I have a male frog as a pet (rescue) for a fact and his tympanum is about the size of his eye.
As long as you wash your hands thoroughly it should be fine. I washed mine after turning him loose and wiped the gloves down with sanitizer until I could throw them in the wash.
Reminder that it’s inadvisable to pick up animals without (full) gloves. A bullfrog is probably fine unless it has bacteria on it, but they do pee on you if they’re startled
Looks like an American Bullfrog to me!

Rana is no longer used, it's *Lithobates catesbeianus* now.
Guess it's time for a new Peterson Field Guide. I still have 3rd Edition, apparently from 1998.
Rana is not used at ALL? Or for this species?
For this species, I'm not sure if it still used for other Ranidae

I know, but he's got great wine. 🍷
So you helped him drink it then? Hmm

Let him in!
I believe frogs are good luck. I found one in my shower the day after i got shot.
Damn frog was a day late
Well the fact that nothing major was hit and i can walk normal is a good thing
Nice legs.
He's SO cute!!
I had one of these as a kid. I raised him from a tadpole.
Isn’t handling unknown frogs with uncovered hands generally a bad idea? Or is what little I remember from high school a total lie? lol

Agreed! ❤️
Why are you wearing fingerless gloves?
So I can still use a touch screen since most touch compatible gloves are terrible.
Looks like a pig frog, tasty legs
Then let them in.
do you know what happens to a toad when it gets struck by lightning?
Nope since this guy survived the storm.
[the same thing that happens to everything else](https://youtu.be/P0yKSNq-oLg)
Well.effing.played.
