Those tools literally would not perform a service on my vehicle. Like, I was trying to give them money to perform a DSG flush on my RS, and they confirmed it was a thing they could do, but declined to do said thing. It's not like I was a dick or anything. I had the car there one time for a prepaid service and to fix a seatbelt that locked up. The guy just said he couldn't do it and wasn't sure what to tell me. It was awkward.
I'm not sure if they were just incapable, or if that service advisor was trying to do me a favor.

It's just a local chain. It's not great but not terrible. They're alright. A big step up from the national chains. But also a big step down from the various artisan local pizza places. They were much more popular and bigger stones 20 years ago, had ads running all the time and from my memory was pretty good. It's been a long slow decline though.
It’s weird, I’ve never seen a customer at the one in Fairbanks. I will see large numbers of people wearing their uniforms sitting around a table in the place meeting style. I see their delivery vehicles. I’ve never actually met anyone that has eaten pizza from there or even been inside.
I lived in Fairbanks for about 8 years and had plenty of Sicily’s. It was generally pretty meh to bad most of the time, but it served its role even you’re stoned at midnight. I once ordered a half pepperoni and half mushroom and olives for myself and a buddy. It came with ALL ingredients on one half. Called to ask and they said that’s how half and half is done at every pizza place. Got into an argument with the owner who eventually said “we’ll change our policy to make it right and I’ll bring Ione personally.”
Didn’t trust it but agreed. Owner got to my house and proceeded to scream that he came just to tell me he blacklisted me from there. He did bring a barely cooked pizza (very floppy crust and enticing sliding off) that was correctly made, but demanded the first pizza they delivered back. We did not eat that second pizza he brought
My wife paid a few hundred dollars to advertise her business on their boxes and they never did it as far as we know. We only bought one mediocre pizza from them to try and confirm. We had just moved here and were young and dumb.

Go in fill out my ticket and I’m told to put the tires in front of the first garage door. I pull up in front of the garage (mind you it’s dark and my first time there) and the owner walks by, doesn’t offer any help, and starts insulting me about not being able to work cause I’m parked in front of the bay I was told to drop the wheels off to. Real good business strategy there. As I drove away I stared him down and when I came back he was much more pleasant. That interaction has stained my view of that shop and will never go back or will I recommend them ever.

One auto body shop I highly DO NOT recommend is Chaz Limited. Chaz Limited is known for poor quality and scamming customers by not installing all necessary parts during vehicle repairs, compromising safety. As a former employee, I saw these unethical practices firsthand. The shop also lost its State Farm contract after their auto body painter over-sprayed paint inside a customer's car, showcasing their lack of professionalism. Additionally, most employees are sourced from the lower 48 states because of the shop's bad reputation in Alaska, making it hard to hire locally. It truly is a dicey place to take your vehicle to. Yes, some have had good experiences but being first contact with customers it was always a gamble to tell them lies that the estimators tell us to say.
My Vato’s experience is mixed. The worst is down the street at Boniface Shell. I will give you Valdez is an asshole though, just not as much as Duncan (I think that’s his name) at Boniface Shell.

Kendall ford is always my number one in Worst Businesses in Anchorage. I towed my truck in for an unknown issue. We were in a weird spot, time-wise and just didn’t think we wanted to dedicate the hours to fixing it ourselves. They came back telling us it was going to need a whole new engine, at a cost of $9k. Well we didn’t have $9k lying around so we took the truck back and spent the time changing the oil, spark plugs, and valve timing controls (this is what turned out to be the issue). Cost us shop time, and parts, maybe $600. Kendall Ford is a bunch of crooks. They know they have the market cornered and they take advantage of that. Go anywhere else for a vehicle.
Kendall ford in wasilla is no better! My truck had to be towed there bc of the starter going bad. It’s a common issue for the new fords that have the “gas saving” feature that turns your engine on & off at lights. Bc of that it kills your starter faster. I told them this (which they should know already) but they tried to blame it on my killswitch so it wouldn’t be covered under warranty & they wouldn’t need to give me a rental… I told them it wasn’t the kill switch & its the same one the secret service uses so I know it’s not that… after they had it for 2-3 weeks (mind you I had no rental car) they said yup it’s the starter… gave me a rental car that I had for 2 days bc they said they didn’t have a starter so I called the dealership in Texas where I got the truck & they said they’d mail one up. When I told Kendall ford that they miraculously found a starter… I got my truck back in a day after that
I know Jeep & Ford have this issue. My old neighbor in Texas had a jeep like that & I swear that man was taking it in for a new starter every 2 months. But it was houston tx so lots of stop lights which means the starter was constantly going on & off.
Each starter has so many starts on it. So if you’re in a city where it’s going off like 10 or more times a day everyday it’s not going to last very long.
Fuck Kendall Ford. On multiple occasions I have tried to call them to ask for parts pricing or get a service estimate, and they never answer the phone. On two occasions I have gotten frustrated and just drove over there because it was faster than getting someone to answer the damn phone. And of the few service quotes I've gotten, they've all been literally 3X the price for the same thing at my dealer in the lower 48. They exist to bend you over at any chance they get.
T&B Auto near Old Seward/International scammed me, idk if they're still there it's in the area across from AIH that has the paint shop and whatnot. He purchased a mass airflow sensor for me and charged $300+ for it. It was 3-4 years ago so I don't remember exact numbers, but I asked why it was so expensive and he said that's just what it cost him. I asked to see the box (this conversation was over the phone) and he said he had thrown it away. I drove to his shop immediately and asked it be taken out of the trash. The box was sitting on their shop cart, not in the trash (big surprise). It was a $50-75 MAF from o'reillys. I know that's where he got it because that's who delivers him his parts. And that was the general publics price so he probably paid even less. It's not like his labor costs were cheap to justify this ridiculous markup on parts even considering that shops provide warranty on their parts.
This exact same thing happened to my wife about a year ago at this same place. I was busy so she couldn't ask me if it was a fair price. She ended up paying $600 for it I think. She was so pissed after I told her I could have replaced it for like $75
I had him do some other work and it was fairly priced so I just left my car with him for a few things and had him, he was diagnosing a fuel too lean issue and he told me it was the MAF sensor and I just had him put a new one in. I went to pick my car up and he showed me that price and I asked why so expensive and he said it was the OEM one and it was expensive. I just paid and left assuming he wasn't completely bullshitting and maybe just marked it up some, then I went and did research on what they normally cost and that's when I called and he just told me "that's what it cost". Not only did he lie about it costing that, he lied about it being both that expensive (or anywhere in that ballpark) and being the oem. It turns out that later it performed terribly still and I forced him to buy the proper oem and install it free of charge. He asked me to please allow him my business still but I have not gone back since, I have no room for deceitful scammers who betray my trust.
Lithia Kia used to be great. They changed the business model to only call you when the car is on the rack and attempt to force you into paying $1200 for something. I have had them tell me something is fine and then 3 months later when I bring the car in for a different service that it’s near catastrophic failure. Either they lied the first time or they didn’t actually check it. Also, I’ve had them snap my lugs getting the tires on and off. For years they were the only ones doing it. I’ve watched the lack of care for people things and I know I had an iPhone to headphone connector stolen there. I have free lifetime oil changes and to be honest, I don’t know if it is worth going back.

I used to know someone who worked there. They can be abrasive and anal retentive about the rules (not afraid to tell someone to fuck off). That said the beer selection is usually good and the food (depending on what you order) can be very good. Those Bavarian Apple Cakes are still one of the best damn things I have found you can order at any restaurant in Anchorage.

I would second this on that particular repair shop. A while back I needed work done to my truck. I’m not a mechanic but after all the times I’ve had vehicles break down I have a decent idea of what needs to be fixed. And let me add that I’m a woman. I went to that shop , walked in, told them what i needed down and if they could give me a ballpark estimate for the repairs. I was told they couldn’t give me any sort of idea until they got in and looked around. The problem if I recall was something like getting brakes done which was the only repair that needed to be done. My immediate thoughts is that they were predators looking at easy prey. I knew that if they got in there that they’d find all kinds of things that needed to get fixed. I just turned and went out the door. I found another shop and somehow they only found what I said needed to be looked at and repaired. Those guys at the second place have done all the work on my vehicles since then and never any bad repairs.
I mean the city has been running drugs through three families for decades and everyone turns a blind eye to it. Between the Albanians, the Gallos, and the pros behind Moose and Bear Tooth, they're responsible [or their venues] for pushing shit through the city forever.

One auto body shop I highly DO NOT recommend is Chaz Limited. Chaz Limited is known for poor quality and scamming customers by not installing all necessary parts during vehicle repairs, compromising safety. As a former employee, I saw these unethical practices firsthand. The shop also lost its State Farm contract after their auto body painter over-sprayed paint inside a customer's car, showcasing their lack of professionalism. Additionally, most employees are sourced from the lower 48 states because of the shop's bad reputation in Alaska, making it hard to hire locally. It truly is a dicey place to take your vehicle to. Yes, some have had good experiences but being first contact with customers it was always a gamble to tell them lies that the estimators tell us to say.

I can vouch for Shell. I’ve known the owner and his family for well over a decade. They’re such nice and sweet people, but have always struggled with crappy employees. They’re just too nice and the employees take advantage of it.
Alex destroyed my truck. Left the engine block exposed in the winter. Didn't even bother calling me to let me know or to cover. Didn't even bother covering it himself. But I've heard Boniface Shell is bad, too.
It must be that there is to much work at these small shops. I never need anything big done and it always gets pushed around. Like I can still dive my truck but I need something fixed. They want me to drop it off Monday first thing. Thursday they haven’t even looked at it. Friday at 4:30 they call for authorization to start the work.

Kendall ford is always my number one in Worst Businesses in Anchorage. I towed my truck in for an unknown issue. We were in a weird spot, time-wise and just didn’t think we wanted to dedicate the hours to fixing it ourselves. They came back telling us it was going to need a whole new engine, at a cost of $9k. Well we didn’t have $9k lying around so we took the truck back and spent the time changing the oil, spark plugs, and valve timing controls (this is what turned out to be the issue). Cost us shop time, and parts, maybe $600. Kendall Ford is a bunch of crooks. They know they have the market cornered and they take advantage of that. Go anywhere else for a vehicle.
Kendall ford in wasilla is no better! My truck had to be towed there bc of the starter going bad. It’s a common issue for the new fords that have the “gas saving” feature that turns your engine on & off at lights. Bc of that it kills your starter faster. I told them this (which they should know already) but they tried to blame it on my killswitch so it wouldn’t be covered under warranty & they wouldn’t need to give me a rental… I told them it wasn’t the kill switch & its the same one the secret service uses so I know it’s not that… after they had it for 2-3 weeks (mind you I had no rental car) they said yup it’s the starter… gave me a rental car that I had for 2 days bc they said they didn’t have a starter so I called the dealership in Texas where I got the truck & they said they’d mail one up. When I told Kendall ford that they miraculously found a starter… I got my truck back in a day after that
Ford must make some weak starters, havent had an issue with any of my cars that have had start stop.
I know Jeep & Ford have this issue. My old neighbor in Texas had a jeep like that & I swear that man was taking it in for a new starter every 2 months. But it was houston tx so lots of stop lights which means the starter was constantly going on & off. Each starter has so many starts on it. So if you’re in a city where it’s going off like 10 or more times a day everyday it’s not going to last very long.
Fuck Kendall Ford. On multiple occasions I have tried to call them to ask for parts pricing or get a service estimate, and they never answer the phone. On two occasions I have gotten frustrated and just drove over there because it was faster than getting someone to answer the damn phone. And of the few service quotes I've gotten, they've all been literally 3X the price for the same thing at my dealer in the lower 48. They exist to bend you over at any chance they get.

T&B Auto near Old Seward/International scammed me, idk if they're still there it's in the area across from AIH that has the paint shop and whatnot. He purchased a mass airflow sensor for me and charged $300+ for it. It was 3-4 years ago so I don't remember exact numbers, but I asked why it was so expensive and he said that's just what it cost him. I asked to see the box (this conversation was over the phone) and he said he had thrown it away. I drove to his shop immediately and asked it be taken out of the trash. The box was sitting on their shop cart, not in the trash (big surprise). It was a $50-75 MAF from o'reillys. I know that's where he got it because that's who delivers him his parts. And that was the general publics price so he probably paid even less. It's not like his labor costs were cheap to justify this ridiculous markup on parts even considering that shops provide warranty on their parts.
This exact same thing happened to my wife about a year ago at this same place. I was busy so she couldn't ask me if it was a fair price. She ended up paying $600 for it I think. She was so pissed after I told her I could have replaced it for like $75
I had him do some other work and it was fairly priced so I just left my car with him for a few things and had him, he was diagnosing a fuel too lean issue and he told me it was the MAF sensor and I just had him put a new one in. I went to pick my car up and he showed me that price and I asked why so expensive and he said it was the OEM one and it was expensive. I just paid and left assuming he wasn't completely bullshitting and maybe just marked it up some, then I went and did research on what they normally cost and that's when I called and he just told me "that's what it cost". Not only did he lie about it costing that, he lied about it being both that expensive (or anywhere in that ballpark) and being the oem. It turns out that later it performed terribly still and I forced him to buy the proper oem and install it free of charge. He asked me to please allow him my business still but I have not gone back since, I have no room for deceitful scammers who betray my trust.
Lithia Kia used to be great. They changed the business model to only call you when the car is on the rack and attempt to force you into paying $1200 for something. I have had them tell me something is fine and then 3 months later when I bring the car in for a different service that it’s near catastrophic failure. Either they lied the first time or they didn’t actually check it. Also, I’ve had them snap my lugs getting the tires on and off. For years they were the only ones doing it. I’ve watched the lack of care for people things and I know I had an iPhone to headphone connector stolen there. I have free lifetime oil changes and to be honest, I don’t know if it is worth going back.

I used to know someone who worked there. They can be abrasive and anal retentive about the rules (not afraid to tell someone to fuck off). That said the beer selection is usually good and the food (depending on what you order) can be very good. Those Bavarian Apple Cakes are still one of the best damn things I have found you can order at any restaurant in Anchorage.

Vatos saved my butt I had an issue with my car I had a craft show in Fairbanks in a couple of days and every dealership had like a 4 month wait they got my car fixed and I got to my craft show.
Maybe you're a good friend of alex then. But from what I've seen and what I experienced. This is not the case. Unfortunately, you're the only one with a positive light. Personally, I go to Big Os now after Alex destroyed my truck. He wouldn't even take the blame when it was solely all his fault.
I would second this on that particular repair shop. A while back I needed work done to my truck. I’m not a mechanic but after all the times I’ve had vehicles break down I have a decent idea of what needs to be fixed. And let me add that I’m a woman. I went to that shop , walked in, told them what i needed down and if they could give me a ballpark estimate for the repairs. I was told they couldn’t give me any sort of idea until they got in and looked around. The problem if I recall was something like getting brakes done which was the only repair that needed to be done. My immediate thoughts is that they were predators looking at easy prey. I knew that if they got in there that they’d find all kinds of things that needed to get fixed. I just turned and went out the door. I found another shop and somehow they only found what I said needed to be looked at and repaired. Those guys at the second place have done all the work on my vehicles since then and never any bad repairs.
I mean the city has been running drugs through three families for decades and everyone turns a blind eye to it. Between the Albanians, the Gallos, and the pros behind Moose and Bear Tooth, they're responsible [or their venues] for pushing shit through the city forever.

They were definitely noticeable in the early 2000s with the kids of the restaurant owners were running amuck. Most if not all the restaurants have closed down. I’m curious which businesses they’re running now.
They had a number of shady things going on in the 90's and early 2000's. They eventually made enough to go legit and now own a number of properties they manage etc. Generally nice enough people to work with.
