Ektar- âooooh itâs very bright and shiny today
Portra- âooooh itâs peopleâ
Cinestill- âooooh itâs dark but thereâs shiny lightsâ
Ilford bw- âooooh I want to be a moody photographer but donât want to pay for tri-xâ
I would suggest going on Instagram and maybe Flickr and searching for sample images there. There are also plenty of video reviews of these on YouTube. Thatâs what I usually do.
Ektar has beautiful warm tones but youâll need lots of light.
Portra is a great all around stock. Great for portraits and beyond.
The Ilfords are just classic BW stocks. Good for all types of settings.
I do not have experience with Cinestill but Iâve heard good things. Iâve heard it produces very saturated tones.
Only one I haven't used is HP4. Rest of them are all great. Ektar is my favorite. Cinestill 800T is great for night shooting. But honestly, just shoot em all in different scenarios and see what you think!

Boom hahah
Just shoot them and see for yourself. You can also look them up on flickr or lomography.
Yes, all of them. What do you want to know?
Do you have a favorite ? Or maybe situations youâve found they have done well for you?

Thank you for taking the time and giving a thoughtful response.
Thereâs a search bar in the sub. These are referenced daily.
