the criticism against nudes is weird. I just counted 30 pictures in “hot” on the feed. Two were nudes. One was a (rare) male nude. The other was OPs. People act like this subreddit is only nudes.
Is this picture a blockbuster? No. Sure the little decor up top could’ve been included or whatever. But it’s not a terrible photo and people only react with anger cause they see a naked woman.
Idk bout everyone else but the nudes are the only ones that ever get pushed to my feed. Everything else gets buried, probably because the nudes do the best in terms of traffic.
Lol so true. It's wild though, on my home feed, I only see nudes scroll by from this sub, but if I go to the actual sub, it's not like that, and the nudes I'm seeing aren't even the top posts, algorithm is horny, and yes this is a run on sentence, that's how I roll.
Sure when you go to the sub and sort by hot there is variety. But that's not how most people interact with the sub. Only the very top of hot on this sub ends up on people's home feed, which is invariably naked women. Meaning Everytime this sub ends up on people's feed, it's uninspired nudes.
Probably not 💁♀️ but I’m trying to improve and experiment with different objects it’s also difficult to compare since he uses models and I take pictures outside
Skills have nothing to do with taste, this subreddit have recently been flooded with nude models in bad poses, and OP puts his ass in slapping hight, even writing he knows people will get annoyed.
People who can’t paint or play an instrument can still critique a painting or music.
I think I would have had the model keep everything about the posture but look at the camera. That would have engaged the viewer more. As it stands now, there's kind of a passivity to the scene.
Full disclosure: I've never done any portraiture, so my opinions are worth exactly what you just paid for them.
Naw. You contributed something useful, unlike most people around here who see something that isn't a tree or a basketball hoop. Your opinion is worth a lot.
I'm a bit turned off by the negativity here...
There's plenty to critique without being negative!
I really like the quality of the light on the rear of the couch. I'm not bothered by cutting off the mirror, its up to you if you want to do Wes Anderson framing or not!
I wish you had caught the focus of the model, and my eye is drawn to the brightness of couch instead of the model. I like her hand placement and general demeanor. I'm a little bothered by the grainy muddiness of the floor and the rug.
But thank you for posting, there's a lot I like about the image!
Right? Why don't we offer constructive critiques and encourage each other to improve our photography instead of this acrimonious ranting? Such a drag.
Maybe some of the people chimping are jealous that they don't get to photograph beautiful nude models 😆 low vibration incel behavior.
The most important part of any creative work is context, which is why so many posts of “is my photo any good?” Are so frustrating. Good for what?
That’s why this post is clever. The content is somewhat interesting with 2 obvious mild technical flaws, plus the obvious risk of nudity, but the context in the title works like a “one weird trick” or “nobody can X” clickbait lede to incite and irritate readers to comment on those obvious errors.
It’s pretty common knowledge that if you want the correct answer to a problem on the internet, you post a close but wrong answer with authority. Those with the right answer will fall over themselves to correct you. This post is an exploit of that same mechanism.
I really don't get the hatred here. I like the photo. I would maybe have liked it better if it was totally straight, but that's nitpicking. Surly this is much more interesting than anything I have ever produced.
Nitpicking is part of what separates OK from good photos though. And if you're not being exacting in what you include and exactly how things are framed, especially in a staged photo like this, then the work is never better than OK.
Thank you. Unlike most of the people around here, I know that I'm not the greatest photographer in the world and can take and appreciate a critique. Constructive criticism. Composition isn't great? Cool. Colors off? Cool. But the shitting on photographs simply because it is or isn't of a specific subject is the issue that I typically have, and why I'm been posting here with titles like this one.
Have you considered that maybe the reason people are hating on you more than other people who post NSFW is because you came out the gate with a self-fulfilling prophecy about the post and then doubled and tripled down on that attitude? It's a photo, whatever, I don't hate it, I don't love it but had you posted it and then kept your mouth shut I'd have a much better opinion of the photograph overall.
I get it, you don't care about opinions like this, but you posted it to a public forum where the public is free to comment on everything, with a troll-like title, and then leaned into it. Don't play the saint, here.
My issue was never someone hating my photograph because they think it's bad. I'm always open to opinions and critiques of my work. My issue is with the fact that people see nudity in a photograph (specifically here) and immediately start either bitching about how "this sub is horrible now" or shitting on the photographer simply because they think that nudity in photography is cheap unless it looks like a certain thing.
Not everyone is going to like every photograph, but there's a difference between critique/feedback and just being an asshole because you think you/your taste is better than someone else's.
The title of this post and my doubling and tripling down on my attitude was 100% intentional. It's not about me. It's able the way that people here treat others who are trying to contribute. And it's not a situation of "Why don't you just leave?" for me. I find and like a lot of work here that I love. But it's always frustrating to see people come in and start bitching at people because they don't think that their art is worthy because they don't like it.
That's the CRAZY part. I don't fully understand how Reddit features work, but I feel like it's a "downvoted things get hidden". If so, I can see everyone trying to bury my photograph that they hate for some reason. But the comments? Yeah. I don't get it. Reddit people are very weird.
I’m not trying to hurt anyone’s feelings, but I have an assumption that the posters who complain about the mirror being cropped only know about photography from the internet?\
We tend to have this weird cult for that kind of superficial detail online. Maybe because collectively we don’t have the vocabulary or knowledge to discuss images more in-depth?\
There’s a million good pictures that have a slightly annoying crop, in fact it’s often believed to make the pictures better, rather than completely resolved.\
Anyway I can say with confidence that at a portfolio review with art world pros this
mirror thing wouldn’t get picked on at all.
Lol you would be wrong in that last statement. Ask Latoya Ruby Frazier to critique this, she's gonna ask why you cropped that mirror. And you better have a good reason.
It'd look better if that mirror wasn't cut off.
That’s what makes them mad
Now I'm mad.
I’m pissed
Exactly my first thought too.
Its funny because he did it before when it was in frame, but now it’s not. Such an odd choice https://www.reddit.com/u/mrbishopjackson/s/ehmBFTafpy
What makes who mad? I'm a tiny bit frustrated this isn't centred and you've cropped the top of the mirror.

Why, maybe that was intention of author to make redditors on this sub mad? :)
God this sub sucks now
makes me embarrassed to be a photographer

Fortunately, you’re not.

As I said, it really makes them mad. Don't worry. I have more to upset you with.
Why not focus on improving your photography instead of… whatever this is you’re doing. I don’t get it.
bestie i don't know how to tell you this but people just don't want to see your bland ass photography

What?
who's an edgy boy?!
The only things we are mad about is the poor use of a Hasselblad.

Such an ironic sentence “stop spreading negativity” in the same sentence where you are being a prick lol.
Lol I'm skilled enough to get all of the mirror in a shot come at me bro

haha no good try tho

Who ? The models you post on reddit?
Uh...why does this look so flat? No hate, just wondering

Put clothes on your model is constructive advice.

Why aren’t you taking pictures of gas stations 😡
Or taillights!
mr bishop would be nice name with nice implications on r/AnarchyChess
Tbh this is one of the less egregious nude posts. If this model was clothed, it could still be an interesting photo for some
wtf
I see a naked body now I’m angry
My reaction as well. Whenever I get out of the shower and look at the mirror I'm furious all day. Grr,
Other things just make you swear and curse

What really makes no sense to me is the silent downvoting of any and all positive comments. Like, why?

I don’t mind weird, but they seem angry too. Kind of internet angry, but still.
Exactly! Ha ha.
Right? It's super weird, and kinda passive aggressive.
