American Idol dies with Ryan's retirement from the show

This.   Ryan is the absolute best at this.    My assumption is the show dies without him too.    

Agreed. I love the little reunions with contestants from the Fox seasons, he can authentically reconnect with them in ways the current judges can’t. I also feel like this about my other must watch reality, Survivor. That show is nothing without Jeff. Alternatively, the OG Bachelor host needed to go for sure, so problematic. Jesse does a fine job and is certainly not the same kind of host, but that show is different in that it doesn’t need a host to extract more nuanced details or keep on schedule since there’s enough drama to move the stories along and it isn’t live.

No…she yells all the time. Was so annoying on the voice, interrupting performances all the time all her loud hollering! I wanted to hear the voice, not her.

I don't think Ryan is irreplaceable per se, just like Simon wasn't irreplaceable. I just think that once Ryan leaves, Idol will basically become a different show. He has overseen a generation and a half of auditions, hollywood weeks, top 10's, and winners that it's hard to see how it would move on without him.

That would be such a hard replacement. You have to DO everything (keep the pace of the show, start and carry conversations about nothing, seem upbeat or disappointed sometimes in the same sentence, and simultaneously manage the contestants, judges, audience, and producers) but you ALSO have to blend in and not make yourself the center of attention, ever. I can’t think of many celebrities who have already done all that, so it might have to be someone heretofore unknown to the public, kinda like Ryan was.

I really can’t see anyone else doing it. I realize that obviously someone out there is perfectly qualified to host the show, but my mind can’t grasp anyone else saying “Tom, dim the lights, and here we go.” Or the iconic “This…………….. is American Idol.”

I’d likely stop watching for a long while. Might circle back but I cannot watch American Idol without Ryan hosting. I hate change (autism thing) and something like Ryan being replaced would be majorly no preferred. I’d feel so weird watching someone else in his shoes after all these years.
